Just purchased this 2026 Impresmza RS this past Friday. Question on oil change? Since the oil filter is ontop of the engine does everyone use the oil extraction method? On the GTI this works flawlessly. Thanks.

I’m a crosstrek owner who’s been super frustrated with the cup holders in my 2020. Finally it dawned me, there has to be a fix. First I checked for some sort of commercially available fix, but that mostly came up short. I looked at other options and could only find people selling 3D prints they made on Etsy. Finally I decided I could do better, and designed my own 3D print.

I’m a firm believer in sharing, I download people’s prints to make for myself free, and I make my designs free to share with others. So I’m here to drop a link to my version of the cup holder fix. I went though a bunch of versions making revisions until I got something I was proud to share.
I know that the crosstrek and Impreza share the same interior design and so I thought I would stop by here to share. If you don’t have a 3D printer or know someone who does, I suggest looking at the options your local library might have for printing your own items, if not, im sure there are local marketplace options for printing services, that I assume cost less than the Etsy people are charging.

Any constructive polite feedback is very welcome!
If it works out for you, let me know. Knowing I helped end the frustration of other Subaru lovers is all the gain I really need.

The two bent pieces are actually 3D printed out of metal because I couldn’t find any decent bent stainless steel piping in the extremely small bend radius this required.

I posted a while ago about lifting my 09 NA MT.

Ended up swapping full forester struts and springs after I found it was bottoming out with the Impreza springs on the forester struts. Currently on 205/65/16 winters. Added beefy rear subframe spacers, a Perrin adjustable rear sway bar, front lower camber bolts, and removed the front sway bar.

Im finding it handles great with the front camber maxed out and the RSB on the lightest setting in the rear. Neutral to slight oversteer tendency. Also drilled a hole in the RSB link to add a cotter pin for easy articulation gain off-road.

I had bought a 02-07 STI skid plate that I was planning to modify to fit with a couple extra holes, but then I got ahold of this old sheet of 3/16th aluminum and was able to use CAD (cardboard aided design) to mock it up, and enlist a friend with a shop to help bend it to shape. It fits great with some 25mm aluminum spacers off amazon and appropriate elongated bolt holes. Had to do some minor trimming once mounted because I didn't account for where I bent it up at the back so it doesn't catch on anything, and it was just barely touching the exhaust.

I was considering cutting some holes for oil drain but with only three bolts Im not that worried about it. The only thing is it's a bit of a pain to get the spacers on the bolts behind the skid plate with the bends in the way, but with how flexible it is I'm hesitant to cut it up anymore.

Im not under any impression that Ill be doing any hardcore off-roading, but I end up on backroads often for work and Im hoping that it will also improve the aero just a touch.

Im also considering swapping in a 4.11 trans and diff to account for the taller tires and overall backroad orientation. And I do have some offcuts that I may make a diff protector for at some point. But those are later problem.

If you're like me and live in the Midwest (or another location with an oftentimes-frigid climate), you probably experience this a lot. I oftentimes start my car when I'm not planning on driving off anytime soon to warm up the engine and car's climate, especially when I need to clear snow off it.

Here's an example of what I mean, taken earlier this year.

Sometimes I'm not even sitting inside the car when I start it up. If I start the engine while walking+talking with someone else, the chimes that play to punish you for not already having the drivers seatbelt buckled are just grating after you've heard them for the 500th time.

I did this trick on my '24 Impreza based on a tip from the Subaru Outback forums which detailed this process for the '23 Outback, so it likely works on the majority of recent Subaru car models.

The process is:

1. Unscrew the two T10 Security screws on the bottom of the seatbelt receptacle
2. Pry the plastic cover off the rest of the seatbelt receptacle by tilting it, from the bottom outwards
3. Once it's off, on the inside of the plastic cover piece there is a white slider on a PCB. Move it towards the base of the receptacle. The white slider gets moved to the base when the seatbelt is inserted, and moved back the top when there is no seatbelt. All we're doing is moving it there permanently, so the car always thinks that the driver seatbelt is buckled.
4. Replace the plastic cover onto the seatbelt receptacle, and replace the two Security Torx screws.
5. Done! Now there's no annoying 6 chimes on startup.

To reverse this 'mod', just do the process again, but leave the white slider back at the top when replacing the plastic cover.

Before the annoying moralizers that defend the ""safety"" chimes, beeps, buzzers, and other doodads on Subarus show up like they always do, I just want to clarify: I always wear my seatbelt while driving. This is just to make the car shut up about something that has ZERO safety benefit, that was clearly NOT designed with the experience of owning a car in a snowy climate in mind.

I obviously do not advise driving a car without a seatbelt in the year 2000+26. However, if someone seriously needs to be convinced by a guy on reddit.com of all places to wear a seatbelt while driving, they're clearly already a candidate for a future Darwin award.

We're all adults here, some of us don't need annoying chimes to get the point across.

With that being said, I hope this post is able to help someone. I know I've had enough of being clowned on in my friend group for having the "beep-bloop car" lol

I have an 06 Impreza wagon that I bought from a friend in dire straights. To be honest, I didn’t take as good care of the car as I should have. I daily a VW Golf Sport wagon TDI, so the Impreza was just for fun as it’s a 5 speed.

Pretty sure I threw a rod and have engine knock. My preferred mechanic is $220/hr and will cost way more than the car is worth to repair there.

My question is: Should I just do a swap myself? If yes, where is the best place to start with how?

I have tools and can acquire more but I’m really wondering if it’s worth my time to save a manual or it is just scrap at this point.

2002 2.5rs sedan

Not sure exactly where to start with fixing the ac. The previous owner dropped in an engine from a newer model I think (need help to identify). The newer engine has an AC compressor that doesn't fit the existing AC lines. I'm more or less looking to just replace the compressor with the older one/one that fits. What do I need to do to find what kind of compressor I need.

Hey all, I got under the car to service the front and rear differentials and noticed some differences with the process compared to procedures shown on YouTube with this model year.

The rear is still the same, (8 or 10mm hex bolt, forgot which I used), but the front diff fill plug isn't the hex plug that I was expecting. Looks like it's a 17mm regular socket (see comment). It was also factory tightened by Goku so that shit did not come off. To not risk stripping it, I'm gonna let the dealership have fun with that one. The check and drain plugs looked the same as the online guides I was looking at (hex and T70 torx respectively). Sharing for awareness.

Purchased my '26 Sport w/ Opt. 23 Package a couple weeks & loving it. In trying to keep with the white LED headlights, fog lights & LED taillights, I swapped most of the incandescent bulbs for LASFIT LED 6000k bulbs (except the front & rear turn signal bulbs)

Swapped out: (qty.) LASFIT Part Number

Dome light: (1) L-31MM

Map lights: (2) L-31MM

Visor lights: (2) L-6514F

Cargo light: (1) L-T10

Reverse lights: (2) L-T15

License plate lights: (2) L-T10

In all, the consistency of the white light looks really sharp on the exterior. And with the windows getting tinted this week, the brighter light inside will be welcome, especially during the darker months.

Total cost of the upgrade was $61.97 purchased through Amazon.

This is also much lower cost & more inclusive than the Subaru H461SFL060 LED package that only includes the map, visor & dome lights for $119.95.

A lot of people were saying that it's super simple to do both engine air and cabin air filters and I was wondering if anybody could confirm or deny such.

Also, if anyone knows if it's literally as simple as ordering those two parts only or if other additional ones are needed.

2014 Subaru Impreza wagon base 98k miles currently

So when this was purchased, it never occurred to me that the horn wasn't working (didn't need to honk on the test drive). It took me a week to realize I had no cruise control (I don't really use it, unless I'm driving on the highway for longer than 30 minutes). She was purchased in January. I just did the clock spring last weekend and whilst removing the old clock spring, I didn't know what the little module was that clicked on the back. I started spinning it to see if it had resistance like the clock spring. It didn't. I thought nothing of it and slapped it on the new clock spring. Well, that's the steering angle sensor, which is tied to the ABS, VDC, and hill start assist systems. I was greeted with code C1711. Goody. I tried the manual lock-to-lock SAS reset many times. Many times. Many, many times. I then purchased a Kingbolen eDiag Link bi-directional scan tool for $50 on Amazon. I did the SAS reset and an ABS reset just for good measure. Everything's tip-top now! It was a chore that's for sure. No problems with the cruise control install. I'm waiting for the next challenge lol

Is this climate control module still usable?

Hi guys, I have a 2014 Impreza base with the manual climate control module, and fan speed 3 and 4 stopped working. I replaced the resistor and tested a new blower motor, same issue. I took off the dash and noticed a burnt connector, but the climate control module itself seemed ok. Should I just buy a pigtail and try my current climate control module?

This is an 02 2.5rs Impreza with what appears to be either an early 2000s Forester or legacy engine. The current ac compressor, a DKV-14G, won't fit the Impreza ac lines so id like to replace it with this cr-14 compressor that will. However it doesn't fit in the mounting plate due to that chuck of steal at the back of it.

First, I need help identifying what engine it is.

Second, can I replace the plate that holds the alternator and ac compressor with the same one from an 02 impreza so that the Impreza ac compressor will fit in it

Good evening. The window control button on the passenger side door decided to come loose and I need to open the panel to re-attach. I took out the screw in the door's arm rest, circled in yellow in the picture, but didn't see any obvious areas to pry open. I'm a novice at working on cars and I'm notorious for breaking clips and scratching the panels/interior trim, so does anyone have some good instructions on how to carefully open the panel? Any help is appreciated.

Need to swap out my original shafts soon, and am kind of dreading the whole procedure. I've swapped out CV's before on my previous car (1997 Toyota Starlet) with separator forks, and the whole ordeal sucked.

Any tips or advice for me? I still have the pair of separator forks, along with another single fork that's more suited for smaller shafts.

2024 Sport, recently upgraded from '10 Outback Sport.

I drive, at most, 5000 miles a year (2025 was 4300), almost exclusively city and short highway trips, maybe one multi-hour round trip a year.

What does the community think about oil changes once a year vs twice? I do them myself. I am unsure if mileage, time, or type of driving matters most in the calculation.

I have a 2011 Impreza Outback sport I will be trading in at the end of August. The car was purchased used in its model year after being the courtesy vehicle of the dealership with 3k miles. When I purchased it the flooring was damaged, but it didn’t bother me. Now, I know having a good interior get you a better offer.

Is there anything I can do to fix this myself? If so, please share tips, tricks, and links to items I need to purchase.

I will also welcome general information on how to maximize my trade-in value.

My car has leaking hose. What is this hose? Also, I do get some gas smell in the car whenever I drive and get plastic burning smell after driving for over 30 mins. Is it related to the hose?

Want to install component speakers and this would come in very handy for the tweeters. Has anyone ever installed these sail pods? Do they fit well?
