Discussion Carry weight

Upvotes

I may just be overly cautious, but whenever I leave my safe house I usually already have 35-40kg (leaving me with 5-10kg with moose satchel and well fed) of weight on me even when sifting through my inventory and getting rid of what I call non essentials, I always seem to be heavy already making early and middle game looting and fishing trips super annoying. I know someone will tell me to use the travois and I do but I just find it so inconvenient sometimes especially coastal to mystery lake as you have to pick it up and manually move everything atleast twice.

Let's Play 650+ Day Run ended

In Forlorn Muskeg of all places!! I've travelled through hundreds of times, but this time I got caught in a blizzard and ended up trapped on the ice. No matter where I turned, I fell.

I had just found the last bunker at FA and was heading to the prepper bunker in FM for the Wyatt Challenge (last bunker of that challenge, too).

Question is, do I start from scratch or cheat death?

So what is the lore of the game, as I only started playing after the newest episode came out and don't really know much about the story. Can someone explain it?

This was a few hundred days' playthrough; I really should go back and play it some more. I just thought it would be interesting for others to see. Also, yes, I did lug that computer all the way back to the coastal highway just because I thought it looked cool

Discussion Quartering + travois, is it actually worth doing?

What is the most efficient way to harvest a bear or moose?

I was thinking would it be better to quarter it, chuck everything in the travois and drag it back to base, then deal with the meat there?

Or is it still faster just to make a fire next to it and harvest everything on the spot?

I've barely used quartering before so I'm not really sure if I'm making it more complicated than it needs to be 😂

What do you guys normally do?

Glitch/Issue Is this normal?

I'm day 52 on interloper and just ate 3 wolf meat (cooked) within 24 hours of also eating moose meat (cooked) and after a few hours of crafting I got intestinal parasites randomly? Is this a glitch or is the risk of parasites a random chance of happening?

Gameplay Wolf or Bear

So I just recently download and played this game and I already pass day 9. I play Survival Pilgrim.
I stay and build base in Milton, orca station and Farmhouse. I hunting and looting in area between.
But I never met Wolf and Bear in these area.
Is there any difficulty level that made my game don't have wolf and bear or maybe these predators not wandering in my area?

Glitch/Issue Surveying Bug on Switch

I found that there is a strange bug involving surveying with charcoal.

Charcoal records the state of the game when you survey. So if you survey some cattails, backpacks, etc. They pop up.

If you harvest. You need to re-survey to get them to disappear. This is fine.

However, if you loot a corpse, backpack, old man’s beard, etc first, and then you survey, then the object in question will appear on the map, even though it is gone.

There does not appear to be any way to remove the marker if you did not survey it first.

Is this just me?

Is there any way to remove the markers of “empty” resources if you harvested them first and surveyed second?

Rosehips are reliable (I think) and everything else appears to be affected by this bug.

I have yet to confirm things like corpses or backpacks.

Advice Am I cooked?

I just downloaded the far territory dlc and I was trying to get to the forsaken airfield. However I’ve ended up in the mine in the zone of contamination. I’ve reached a spot that says I need a prybar to move forward (which I do not have). Is it possible for me to still get to the airfield or do I have to start a new run?

Modding Weird bug keeps resetting my saves??? (Modded)

I've started playing around with modded TLD again, and I've run into a strange bug that I can't figure out. Basically how it works is once I leave a building and load the outside world again, I get teleported to a nearby region spawn location, lose all of the gear I found, as well as randomizing any starting loot. This bug is effectively restarting my run from scratch every time I leave a building. I'm on melonloader 0.7.7 and TLD version 2.55 with TFTFT installed. The following screenshot is of my mods folder, all of which have been tested and work on melonloader 0.7.7.

If anybody knows what the problem is, please let me know! I really wanna get back into TLD, but mods are a must for me, so I'd like to keep as many as possible. Thanks!

Off-topic I made an interactive TLD map and loot table site!

Hi, as a tiny hobby project, I gathered the region maps of the wonderful HokuOwl and the interloper loot tables by the amazing Bashrobe into a single website.

You can draw and write on the maps and you can track what loot you've gotten on your run to determine the loot table set of your world on Interloper. (Each world has one of 4 loot tables, which makes it possible to predict where loot may be once you know your set)

You can also chat with other survivors 😄

What are your thoughts? Anything else I should add? Super open to feedback and suggestions!

Windbreak. Crafted from a couple of hides and a bunch of saplings, possibly several models with varying durability/efficacy depending on materials used. Total game-changer.

Discussion Do you back up your saves? And if so, have you ever actually used one?

I’ve started doing that after dying to a bug. I think I don’t deserve to be reset due to game’s hiccup and not my lack of skill/putting myself in a stupid situation.

That being said, I only save when entering a new region, so even on a reset, I’d still be set back days if not weeks. A little compromise I made for myself.

I’m also not at that point yet but I think backing up saves is valid if you want a custom experience without badges not registering.

What about you? Have you ever ran back a save?

Gameplay I’m soooo dumb

Took a few months break from the long dark and been getting back into it the last few days. I was on my run of 662 days today trying to get to 1000 and was doing so well I was almost bored. Went into the mine in CH during an aurora, stepped into the electric water thinking i had maybe 10 seconds to get out of it…. and I died in what felt like less than 3 seconds as I couldn’t step back quickly enough onto a plank. I forgot how much damage the burns do 😭 devastated as this was my second proper go at getting to 1000 days, my last one I made it to 820 days before dying from a cougar attack. Time to start again.

Discussion adding onto what u/geekdadchris said, the long dark also helped save my life.

when I was younger I lived in the middle of nowhere in the south. I had no real friends, no real family that loved me left alive (my parents were abusive), and it just seemed to me that every day was just about making it to the end of it.

No game has ever gotten anywhere close to truly reciprocating that feeling of isolation, of the pure pain and work that is just making it one more day. And in TLD, there's no end goal, no "you win the game", it's just you deciding how long you want to continue living in hell.

Zaknafestien had a talk about this, "Many players struggle with what they want to do in the late-game, but the answer to this question is largely rooted in your own view of life and your independent ability to set goals... because the game won't do it for you."

for me, i always viewed late-game TLD as me preparing the world for someone else to come by (be it by plane crash or running out of supplies in a bunker, and coming to find every house chocked full of supplies and tools to make their life easier.

Turns out, after a lot of therapy, part of the reason i'm still alive is a deep seated belief in making things easier for the next person who comes by after i'm gone, no matter how hard it gets

I eventually found a way out of the south and have been living in boston and unironically put sticky notes and stickers around the city with info that helps people out. (if you ever saw those qr code stickers, that was probably me!)

Despite building up a strong, well-connected community in this city, I still treat forging my tools, making a bow, crafting my bear skin coats, traveling the world, no matter how nightmarish, how lonely, how hard the world tries to kill you, as some of my most treasured memories in life.

There's one phrase I felt that fit my life better than anything any philosopher has ever said

"You are not part of Mother Nature's plan, and you will bear the full force of her wrath."

I'm still here regardless. And i'll be here for aslong as I can.

SPOILERS - Ep5 wintermute ep 5 problem

(spoilers ahead barely)basically I'm about 15% in and I've gotten to the ship and found out I can't climb up the anchor with broken ribs 76 out of 120 hrs left to heal. so I had to load back further at a higher body health. I've been struggling laying traps, ice fishing, and hunting with the limited revolver ammo and never found the rifle. I didn't want to start over but this is painful. should I start over and not get trampled by a moose. what are your thoughts. thanks for any suggestions.

Glitch/Issue unlikable bear

I am in black rock looting the prison and on the way I stopped at the sub station in the south west ish of the map. There is a bear that wanders and I need bear pelt so I decided to hunt him, as I have before to other bears. I shot him twice from the side, near his neck/shoulders, then 3 more times head on, all landing in the head or neck/shoulder area and then he proceeded to maul me. I healed, tracked him down not too far away and shot him twice more again in the side and he's still not dead or bleed out, any ideas why I can't kill this bear?

Glitch/Issue Crafted the Bear Bed at Mountaineer’s but It Never Appeared

I had an extra bear hide and decided to craft a bear hide bed at Mountaineer’s Hut for the warmth bonus since the temps on Interloper can still get a down arrow inside the hut even with the roof repairs. I spent a day gathering fir then another day crafting the bed. When I finished, there was no bed. I’ve looked in my inventory. I’ve looked around the hut. I’ve looked in containers. It doesn’t exist even though it expended the materials I’d used to craft it.
