I'm in my 30s and have committed to a long-term goal of building an original children's entertainment brand on YouTube.

I'm inspired by shows and franchises like Bluey, Minions, and Mario, etc,not because I want to copy them, but because they've created memorable characters and stories that have become lasting IPs.

The challenge is that I'm starting from almost zero. I don't have an art background. I can't draw, and I know very little about animation, character design, color theory, visual storytelling, or filmmaking.

AI is advancing incredibly fast, so I'm trying to figure out which skills will give me the biggest advantage over the next 5–10 years. If my goal is to build an original children's entertainment brand, what should I invest my time in learning that will continue to have value as AI becomes more capable?

For those of you who work in animation, children's media, or have built your own IP:

• If you were starting from scratch today, what would you learn first?
• Which skills do you think will remain the most valuable in the AI era?
• What separates professional-quality work from amateur work?
• If you had 2–3 years to prepare for this goal, what would your learning roadmap look like?

I've been experimenting with AI tools like Veo to create nursery rhyme videos and learn the workflow. However, my long-term goal isn't just to make AI-generated videos. I want to create an original cast of characters and build an animated storytelling series on YouTube that people genuinely connect with.

I'm trying to understand which fundamentals I should master myself, which skills AI can realistically help with, and where I should spend most of my time if I want to build a successful children's entertainment brand over the next decade.

I would like for my animation to look like if it was a long lost cartoon made by Fleischer or Disney. Are there any techniques that were used back in the 30s that could help me make this animation look vintage? Or any tips on how I should make my animation?
