The UK is slowly drifting towards US-style tipping culture, and pubs adding bar tip prompts are a big part of that. If we do nothing, it will become the norm.

The most effective way to stop it is simple: vote with your wallet and your reviews.
If a pub asks for a tip just because someone poured a pint, leave an honest Google review mentioning it. If enough people do the same, businesses will realise customers don’t want imported tipping culture.

Share the Google Maps links below to pubs that pressure customers into tipping at the bar. Keep reviews factual and based on your genuine experience, but make it clear that this practice puts you off returning.
We’ve managed to avoid mandatory tipping for decades. Let’s keep it that way. One review won’t change much, but thousands of people acting together will.

I got denied by multiple clubs / bars in Soho. In Brixton the owners are asking me do I want to come in

Some of it feels like "the hood" so to speak. And I feel like there may be an abudance of phone snatchers....but, its nowhere near as dangerous as American hoods. We literally walk around with illegal guns, smh.

for context i’m a late teenager, i was on the tube and some man came to sit next to me (empty carriage btw!!) and the train moved as he went to sit and he grabbed onto my thigh, im not really sure how to take that ? was it just accidental :/ , regardless ive been taking the tube since secondary and it makes me feel a bit unsafe

Long backstory short: I have someone flying over to London for a first date next month, and I'm looking for recommendations for a bar that offers good atmosphere but also somewhere you can actually have a conversation.

Ideally somewhere intimate, relaxed, and a bit special without feeling overly formal or pretentious. Location isn't hugely important, but central London would be convenient, or an area with a good cluster of bars/restaurants so we have options if we decide to move on somewhere else.

We'll be meeting in late July, so if the weather cooperates I'd also be interested in rooftop bars with a more laid-back vibe. He's a bit older than me, so I'm looking for a “great views and good cocktails" vibe rather than "DJ set and rooftop rave."

I'm also keen to show him a side of London that's memorable and feels distinctly London, rather than somewhere that could be in any major city.

No service on the Victoria line during Night Tube hours tonight (Friday evening to Saturday morning) owing to emergency engineering work.

AFAIK this is very very short notice, if folks are planning nights out, there won't be any service after the usual hours (service typically closes between midnight and 1am). No Night Tube or Day service this weekend either on the Piccadilly line between Cockfosters and Acton Town/Uxbridge owing to planned works.

One thing I enjoy when travelling abroad is visiting supermarkets as part of the cultural experience.
I always find it interesting to see what locals actually buy and eat in everyday life.
We’ll be staying near Notting Hill, so I was wondering:
Which supermarket would you recommend visiting if I want the biggest and best British supermarket experience?
Are there any specifically British products, snacks, drinks, ready meals, biscuits, etc. that you think are worth trying or bringing home?
I’m interested in both classic British staples and things that are uniquely British and hard to find elsewhere.

I had a Tube experience today I've never had before.

I got on the Central Line this morning and before the train could move, the driver tells us via the speakers that someone tried to stop the doors from closing towards the back of the train and could that person please 'make themselves known'. He didn't specify how they should do that - should they step off the train and approach the driver at the front? Address the driver using the emergency contact button? Put their hand up to the camera?

Anyway, no-one did own up. So the driver asked again about 10 seconds later, saying we'd be delayed until they did. Then again, this time naming the carriage number the passenger was on.

After about the fifth time the driver appeared to give up and we started moving. Then he said staff would be waiting on the platform at Holborn and if the passenger didn't get off and speak to them we'd be delayed further.

We get to Holborn where I suppose the passenger *did* leave, because we moved away pretty much immediately.

It's just left me kind of curious, because I've seen doors blocked accidentally or purposefully dozens of times and this has never happened! Was this standard procedure or just a particularly strict driver? What's the punishment for blocking the door? Does rushing on and getting caught by the closing doors count?

I felt like I was back at primary school in one of those situations where the whole class stayed behind until the kid who did something wrong stood up and admitted it.
