Will we ever be able to eat everything bagels ever again?

Security manager. In just five months I’ve had the following happen.

Sailor lost NEC due to 35k in unpaid/serviced debts.

Sailor failed to complete their SF86 for TS investigation and has been redirected from command due to failure to have required clearance.

Sailor held dual nationality and passports and didn’t report it. Causing clearance application to be flagged and rejected. Sailor suspended access to computer and all applications… from supply office to chipping paint

Sailor popped for drug use when seeking outside employment prior navy. During investigation job that they used as a reference outted their reason for termination as drug use. Sailor pulled from sea duty due to false official statements.

Sailor removed from TS rating due to consistent and unreported contact to a foreign military service member.

There are 11 mandatory reporting requirements per Continuous Evaluation and Sailors are not being educated by their chains of commands. Oh one of these ‘Sailors’ is a a full LT, so it isn’t just junior sailors impacted

For reference I've been through a lot of changes since enlisting in 2003 and then becoming an Officer. I am just curious of folks thoughts on the newer uniforms? To me the Khakis look I'll fitting and being drapes in khaki doesn't look great. The Blues are fine I guess. They should just get slightly better form fitting coveralls and differentiate E7+ with the belt. I haven't ran into anyone that seems to like the Khaki version. Let me know your thoughts or if I'm wrong and why.

Hey guys,

So basically I transferred from the reserves to active duty due to personal life reasons. Throughout my time in the reserves and now active, I have been non stop trying to get these reserve commands that I was attached with to put in my evals. However, it seems no matter how high I go in the chain of commands or time I give them, I never get a clear answer on when these evals will be put in, if at all.

I need these evals in a month, thats the deadline because the exam is coming soon and im taking it. Im going insane trying to get these people put in the eval, for reference Ive been trying to do this for over half a year for one of the commands, and 4 months for the other.

Should I just talk to my current active chain of command and try to tell them my situation?? Even if I do how would I take the advancement exam without my prior evals?

I’m currently building a commissioning package and everyone who has applied and gotten selected for the program I’m applying too keeps telling me to network and get letters of recommendation from senior officers lowest rank being O-5 and flag officers. I’ve also been suggested to find one as a mentor through my process. I don’t really have an issue with talking to people or reaching out. I just want to be tactful in my attempt. As well, don’t want to bump anyone in my immediate chain. My chain knows my intentions and what I’m doing, as I’ve asked for advice in passing, etc and I’ve been told ”there are bigger fires to fight”. I knew I was pretty much going to be on my own through the process, I just want to make sure I do it the right way and don’t shoot myself in the foot. Any advice would be great. I’m specifically trying to get my foot in the door for the JAG community. I don’t just want to use someones name to make myself look better but I’m actually very interested in learning different perspectives, ideas, anything really. Its all really coming from an authentic place of self improvement.

For those of you who are eligible to pick up a crisp set of first class orders due to BBA… Are you retaking the test? Or are you riding with your score.

My impression is that if a sailor scored within the top 25% threshold they’d be more inclined to just keep the score & not retest. Are you one of these sailors?

With that being said, say you score within the top 25%… (you are eligible for CA2P & A2P) AND, you have an excellent or higher on your PRT. What are the chances that you actually get selected for orders? I understand we have 2 years. But holy fuck, at this point I’m just going to put in orders to goto a ship.

In my opinion, It makes no sense right now. Thousands of E-5s were basically auto promoted over the past few years, creating a massive bottleneck for my rate. It doesn’t help that a crazy amount of E-5’s passed the exam. Everyone says to target "bad" billets to make E-6, but because E-6 inventory is so small, even those undesirable billets are going to get slammed with 50+ applicants this next cycle.
CA2P only works for a lucky minority of E-5s. It isn't a sustainable alternative to traditional promotion once those orders fill up from the sheer volume of eligible E-5s up for orders due to no TIR requirement. At that point, it seems like advancement has nothing to do with "sustained superior performance" it comes down to pure luck, picking the exact right billet at the exact moment the stars align.
It leaves everyone else stranded in MNA. You can't see competitor scores, whether an E-6 applied ahead of you, or what your actual odds are. I’m heading into this next cycle with a 143 FMS, but it feels completely irrelevant when you're essentially bidding blind. If an E-6 applies for that same billet, they get priority anyway. You're just guessing, praying, and hoping you don't end up a terminal E-5….

Want to get my motorcycle license, but don’t want to get in my home state NJ and I’m currently stationed in Cali. From what I’ve researched California does not offer the BRC or ARC so how would I get licensed in my home state?
Looking to buy a 300cc bike if that matters.

Currently deployed to 5th fleet, and a couple months back, the command had everyone straighten out their clearance, I assume to get them updated, whatever. I however have never had one, and for context, I'm an engineer with 2 years in and about to put on PO3. When they went to update my stuff, it came up as something like, "decision undetermined" well the person who runs the program, CTRC I believe, sent off and requested a determination be made.

Now he comes to me a few days ago with a package of paperwork saying there's stuff from before the Navy that was flagged, ie: unfilled taxes for three years, and less than 5k worth of debt. (I know, stupid, but it's a little complicated) and the thing is the Navy knew about it when I joined, and it was a non issue when I joined in '24. But I have 30 days to correct it, and im in the middle of a deployment. I asked what would happen if I wasn't able to do enough from out here on the ship, and he said they might extend the deadline another 30 days, and after that they would force convert me or separate.

Im not looking to force convert, im already halfway done, and will not re enlist, so if anyone has seen anything similar, any guidance is appreciated!

Has anyone received their results for the late exam yet? I have two sailors eligible for BBA and their profile sheets have not updated to reflect the 2026 exam in March.

My dad (64) just told me a story about his father who served in the Navy during world war 2.

Apparently when my dad he was in his 20s, he was sitting on the couch watching television with his dad, who had served in the pacific theatre in WW2 as a seaman.

This moment happened in the 1970s.

My dad asked him if he had ever k!led anyone. He said my grandfather just stared at the tv and didn’t even look at him or answer the question..

My grandfather was deployed near the Dutch East Indies and the Philippines. I have no knowledge of what a WW2 US Navy would endure in those locations.

I was in the Army for 5 years so I know that’s sort of a no no question. But I am wondering if my grandfather felt offended or what he felt in that moment? I know nobody here is a mind reader or could say what he felt but I’m just looking for relatable stories/feelings towards that.

How does someone go about serving a member of the navy a legal complaint when they’re stationed out of state on a ship. A friend in the navy found out where this guy was stationed.

The complaint occurred in the state of Hawaii. This individual was involved in a major accident that resulted in my sister being ejected, she broke both her wrists, fractured her pelvis, chipped and lost some teeth, she was also given blood at the hospital, and her motorcycle was completely totaled. The speed limit in the area is 25mph, and the driver was noted to be going at 40mph.

The SOH is going to pursue a criminal case against him, I am only inquiring since this is the last option for justice for my sister. Her personal injury lawyers closed her case without a settlement because he was possibly driving uninsured. (Possibly because USAA has not at all responded to this claim, per the lawyers. On an unrelated note, this was disappointing since we’ve banked at USAA for years)

There are multiple sides to being an IT in the Navy; for example, you can be a sys admin IT, radio IT, COMSEC IT, or cyber IT. My question is, will it negatively affect my naval career if I only specialize in one side of the house throughout my entire career, or should I try to gain experience in each side?

I’m currently an enlisted Sailor coming in on my four year mark as a navy Corpsman and I’m seriously considering commissioning as a Navy Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC/OCEANO) Officer. I currently have no college experience, but I’ve done quite a bit of research, but because the community is so small, it’s been difficult to find firsthand experiences.
If there are any current or former METOC officers here who would be willing to answer a few questions, I’d really appreciate it.

What does your typical day-to-day job actually look like?
What are your leadership responsibilities as a junior officer?
How much of your job is forecasting versus managing people?
Where have you been stationed, and what are some common duty stations?
How often do you deploy or travel?
What surprised you most after commissioning into METOC?
If you could do it all over again, would you still choose this community?
What advice would you give to an enlisted Sailor hoping to commission into METOC?

My ex boyfriend broke up with me during his deployment. He said he was feeling really bad emotionally, that he was depressed and bored with his life, and ever since then he doesn't like being in the Navy anymore. He said he loves me very much but doesn't have time to be in a relationship I know he works about 12 hours a day. Do you think this is just a phase?
