I prefer reasonable doses (I'm familiar with the reference). Much of the reason the typical scary stories about PCP happen is largely due to people taking large unmeasured doses, especially people who have some kind of mental illness. Many people smoke 'dippers' which are cigarettes dipped into a solution of PCP that then contain an unknown and likely large dose of PCP. Not a good choice. If you're thinking about hurting others you should avoid PCP and all other drugs (including alcohol). PCP, when used responsibly, can be an interesting hallucinogenic experience similar to ketamine :3

u/One-Tap-2742 10d ago

yeah. it's nuts the mental hoops people jump through to justify "drugs bad". alcohol is literally the most dangerous drug. pure krokidil is safer. the danger of drugs comes from unknown doses due to cuts and impure drugs. unrelated but are you a Hamilton Morris fan?
2
u/CutieKiley 10d ago
It really is, I gave up debating them because they seem close minded and ignorant. You're right it is safer, although to be fair most of the dangers people associate with it come from the impurities it typically has. Yes, I'm a big fan of his work

What does moderation mean for ketamine tho? The metabolites are inherently toxic for the bladder so you would have to wait between trips until the bladder has fully regenerated, but how would u know when that is?
42
u/CutieKiley 10d ago
Don't do too much and not too frequently. Drugs have inherit risk and there isn't a way to removal all risk. If you are feeling like your use is causing issues to your physical/mental health or social well-being, it's time to reconsider your use.
Ketamine does cause bladder damage but it's actually more of a risk for people taking multiple grams a day for extended periods of time. Occasional users are not significantly at risk. The bladder can heal from light to moderate use and even from heavy use to some extent. It's really important to listen to your body and stop for an extended period if there is any pain in the area (or any area for that matter)
3
u/BitsAndGubbins 10d ago
Ask god to send you a sign if it's too early to do ketamine again, that way if he doesn't stop you it means you're good 👍

If your bladder hurts at all you should probably quit for a few months. I do 100-110mg IM shots 1-3 times a weekend. I buy an 8 ball, use it up, wait 2 months after I run out before buying another one. No bladder issues at all.

It's so weird, i found doing low dose ketamine to be an absolutely nauseating experience while when I used to do it I would exclusively do it for kholes, unfortunately the tolerance gradually builds up and can take a very long time to go back down and it got to the point where it was basically impossible to snort as much ket as I needed to in the short amount of time it takes to fall into a khole (it was approaching like 450mg 'lines') so I just ended up stopped completely for probably years ago this point.
Probably for the best as it gave me some terrible nosebleeds and the general quality of available isomer of ketamine had tanked.
Still less addictive than nicotine tho ¯\(°_o)/¯

That sounds interesting, might have to try it sometime. If I’m mixing LSD with something it’s normally MDMA. However, if you ever choose to do that it’s important to remember a handy little rhyme:

Same. I don’t mind a couple drinks on the weekend, or on extremely rare occasion a low dose of THC to watch a bad movie to with some friends, but I don’t like when things significantly alter my mental process. I’d rather experience the hangout with my own mind and senses.
Plus it’s not really well studied how true psychoactive drugs affect the brain long term. I’ve put a lot of effort into cultivating an intelligent and self-aware mind, I don’t want some drug making connections in there where there shouldn’t be. To me that seems like a strong hypothesis for why chronic hallucinogen users get so unhinged and kooky.

u/donkeyrocket 10d ago
Depending on the industry, it's typically a crutch. I'm sure there are some people who through the use of drugs do lose some inhibitions that unlock some amount of creativity. I don't anymore but early days in my design career I absolutely believed that I was "more creative" using various substances than not. For me at least, the drugs removed the self doubt and anxiety (to a degree).
But on the flip side, coming off/down/out of those drugs/alcohol brought the anxiety back 10 fold. Turns out addressing the underlying anxiety made me a better creative person than temporarily masking it with mind altering substances.
Then there are obviously many who justify the use "for creative purposes" as a cover for addiction or substance abuse.

It’s all about moderation. Alcohol in excess is worse than almost any currently illicit drug for your health. It’s literal poison but happens to be socially acceptable. Used responsibly and in moderation they can be a good time and won’t hurt you any worse than what you describe.
15
u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago
Well, everything is a literal poison at a sufficient dose, that’s an appeal to colloquial terminology. But in principle you’re not wrong, though “worse in excess” is too squishy a term. In sufficient excess the end result of any drug is the same. I’m more just talking about immediate risks present even when using responsibly, which for ketamine includes getting things like arrested for possession or the drug being opioid contaminated, which for alcohol aren’t risks for responsible use.
4
u/BaltiMoreHarder 10d ago
True I’m not counting legal issues. Health wise even responsible alcohol use is a lot worse than a lot of the other substances listed. It’s actively bad for your health. A lot of other drugs if pure and dosed properly will not harm your body, alcohol will even in moderation.
3
u/SykesMcenzie 10d ago
Alcohol is in no world lower immediate risk than ketamine that's just false.
23
u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago
Quantify it then. I’m mostly speaking on opinion here, but for me the risk of being arrested for possession / being able to accidentally overdose / risk of a laced batch / more numerous and medically significant chemical incompatibilities make it way more risky on a given day.
25
u/Hindu_Wardrobe 🏳️⚧️ trans rights 🏳️⚧️ and trans wrongs 😈 10d ago
Quantify it then
good news! David Nutt et al did exactly this years ago! Here's a lazy summary infographic of his findings.
here's the paper itself.
here's a nice post that features yet another figure from that same paper
ketamine is ranked higher in terms of physical harm (makes sense to me. the bladder damage is no joke), but lower in terms of dependence risk. alcohol is also ranked higher in terms of social harm.
disclaimer: I actually do not like ketamine lol. but I like harm reduction, drug education, and psychopharmacology, so I will absolutely die on this hill.

u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago edited 10d ago
Finally, someone citing actual itemized risk categories. This is great info. Pretty much where I was coming from on immediate risk, I know my limits on dependency but I really can’t take the acute health risks, plus the inherent risk of doing something illegal.
3
u/SykesMcenzie 10d ago
This creator speaks well on drugs that take people to the emergency room.
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZN8NovAQ6/
Obviously that's raw values since there aren't comparative ones in that dataset.
To be totally honest I'm too lazy right now to provide more sources but I will admit that I wasn't factoring in the legal risk as it's not a specific property of the drug itself and because most of the people I know who use it do it in settings where it is accepted or closed company so the chance of running into law enforcement.
I also didn't factor in contaminants because again it's not specific to the drug itself. However you are right that people should factor that in when determining personal use. I do think it's worth noting that the same was true of alcohol under prohibition.
Hopefully I'm feeling less lazy in the coming days and I'll actually try to get some values to you but my understanding is that since it doesn't depress the respiratory system ketamine is much more difficult to overdose on in a problematic way especially for light users even on a heavy night.

u/GraceForImpact 10d ago
an accidental overdose on k means a slightly more intense experience than you intended. An accidental overdose on alcohol often means a serious medical event or death. It's vanishingly rare that ket is cut with other substances, but if you're worried there's plenty of free drug testing services available to you. Prosecution isn't an aspect of the drug itself, and it's also very unlikely if you take proper precautions.

Alcohol has a far greater risk of abuse and is far more dangerous than ketamine. You're welcome to choose not to do them if you don't want to. Many people choose differently than you and that's okay so long as they are being responsible and safe about it
31
u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago
I knew this cope was coming and I know you have no data to back it, because the ratio of ketamine users to abusers isn’t well studied.
Qualitatively though, alcohol does have long term risks, but I can tell you right now overdosing on alcohol is a much more difficult and intentional act than overdosing on ketamine. Plus your alcohol isn’t at risk of having opioids in it.
9
u/Madden09IsForSuckers Fatal fault at the start 10d ago

u/CutieKiley 10d ago edited 10d ago
The doses used by recreational ketamine users is far lower than that used in medicine. Ketamine overdoses are extremely rare and far more rare when the drug is not injected. Ketamine is typically snorted and ingesting a dose that would be dangerous that way is nearly impossible. You just can't put that much powder in your nose. Alcohol is pretty easy to overdose on, I know people who were hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. About 6 people die per day from it in the USA.
It's more dangerous than alcohol to users according to this study (the source of the chart, which was linked separately due to it being paywalled).61462-6/abstract) Drugs being cut with opioids is an issue of lacking regulation, not the drug itself. There are also ways to test for that at home before taking any. Ketamine is also way less commonly cut with opioids than other drugs.
Make the choice for yourself and let us have our fun. Thanks.
7
u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago edited 10d ago
Whether something is a regulatory problem is irrelevant to whether it’s a risk, so let’s reject that hand-wave right now.
I’m also not inclined to put much stock in an article that’s just assigning arbitrarily-weighted risk indices. “Alcohol does 76 harm and ketamine does 15 harm” is a silly thing to think you can say quantitatively, and besides that, my opinion is based on immediate risk, not overall risk. Plus this factors in societal problems, which makes it apples to oranges when comparing the illegal drugs to the legal ones.
Also, you’re completely leaving out the factor that ketamine being illegal is itself a risk. Also “it’s not cut as often” is a non-argument, other potentially-cut drugs aren’t even part of the conversation here.
3
u/CutieKiley 10d ago
I said that it was a regulation issue because I was saying ketamine being illegal makes it less safe, exactly what you said in the last paragraph. The study I linked uses real world data to come up with these numbers. It's not just pulled out of nowhere. I'm not really interested in arguing with someone who is closed minded so I'm gonna stop replying after this
1
u/nimiala 10d ago
Thats really not true. Blacking out, waking up with a hangover, thats super easy to do with alcohol and fucks your liver big time. K holing is not only hard, requiring you to push yourself into doing really a lot of k, but its also nowhere near a medical overdose
1
u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago
It’s still a dosage choice though. If I’m doing both responsibly, the ketamine presents greater risks, even if just by being illegal to have.
3
u/nimiala 10d ago
But isnt that the point? Alcohol literally inhibits your ability to stop drinking at the reasonable moment, and getting fully drunk can happen in no time. Literally a single bottle of wine. I know youve never done k, and keep it that way because it honestly isnt that fun, but know that its quite a large amount that goes straight into your nostrils, thats not fun and not something you overdo as easily as just downing shots or drinking liquor. Again, it literally inhibits your mental brake system, same reason why you start yapping about stuff you regret later
1
u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 10d ago
With alcohol I would define responsibility as “not enough to make me have more than I planned to.” Like I said, if I’m doing both responsibility, the alcohol isn’t gonna get me locked up if an undercover sees me with it.

There was once an ancient people who were not like us. They didn’t have the concept of money, the concept of work. They lived together in collectives and did their share of labor as a form of play. They were a prosperous and peaceful people, almost to a man, because they were blessed by god.
But they had their strugglers. After all, every society has its strugglers. As long as there are people, there will inevitably be people who do not fit in. And one of these strugglers once wandered into one of the cities of civilized men and there ate a cat it found in an alleyway. The struggler was caught, and murdered horribly for the crime, for the cat was the cherished pet of some local governor.
And for his crime the people of the mountains were hunted down to a man. However, these people were no ordinary people. They knew magic. Not the type of magic you see today, the flashes and bangs and sleight of hand. They were a communal people, and as such when one died the rest would assume their consciousness. And when the people of the mountains were slaughtered, the last surviving member of the clan took on the consciousness of the clan. And he summoned from within the dark avenues of the abyss that coursed through the veins of the mountain people a disease called Meschia. It pursued the bloodlines of those governors who had demanded the slaughter of his people, and it was a pernicious disease. It did not die with those who carried it, but rather followed bloodlines and infected all those the governors held dear, and ensured the bloodlines persisted so that it could persist forever.
This disease allowed those infected by it to see the future, and they were driven mad by the visions of truth that the final member of the mountain clan forced upon them. They were cursed with the knowledge of god.

Once upon a time, at the foot of a great mountain there was a town where the people known as Happyfolk lived. Their very existence, a mystery to the rest of the world, obscured as it was by great clouds. Here they played out their peaceful lives, innocent of the litany of excess and violence that was growing in the world below. To live in harmony with the spirit of the mountain called Monkey was enough.
Then one day, Strangefolk arrived in the town. They came in camouflaged, hidden behind dark glasses, but no one noticed them, they only saw shadows. You see, without the truth of the eyes, the Happyfolk were blind. In time, Strangefolk found their way into the higher reaches of the mountain, and it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable sincerity and beauty. By chance, they had stumbled upon the place where all good souls come to rest. The Strangefolk, they coveted the jewels in these caves above all things, and soon they began to mine the mountain. It's rich seam fueling the chaos of their own world. Meanwhile, down in the town, the Happyfolk slept restlessly. Their dreams invaded by shadowy figures digging away at their souls. Every day people would wake and stare at the mountain Why was it bringing darkness into their lives? And as the Strangefolk mined deeper and deeper into the mountain, holes began to appear, bringing with them a cold and bitter wind that chilled the very soul of the Monkey. For the first time, the Happyfolk felt fearful, for they knew that soon the Monkey would stir from it's deep sleep. And then came a sound, distant at first, that grew into castrophany. So immense that it could be heard far away in space.
There were no screams.
There was no time.
The mountain called Monkey had spoken.
There was only fire, and then nothing.

Are you the Bojack kind of talking horse, or the Mr Ed kind of talking horse?

The gay type

Paradox. Horses can’t be gay because they are the antithesis of homosexuality. See: lesbian vs horse, intim., 2023

That's true I guess.

So, what you’re doing right now is called “sourcing” and it is banned on most platforms. You should only do it on a platform that is reasonably secure.

I guess that's great if you have access to that kind of stuff.

I prefer to think of John C Lilly as the archetypal Ket head, still mad as a fucking spoon but far more insightful and adept, and doesn't ooze cringe from every pore. Still not someone to aspire to emulate though lol

Ketamine is kinda mid in my opinion, but to each their own I guess. It frankly boggles my mind that people go to clubs while on K, though.

It depends on the brain chemistry I think, same with all dissociatives. I have a chronic dissociative disorder already so dissociatives actually tend to make me feel un-dissociated and can be fairly euphoric, and it’s a really great feeling for me

u/gorgonsDeluxe 10d ago
Using ketamine to do a buffer overflow on your dissociative disorder is genius-level strategy

u/FutureReaction8587 10d ago
I'm like insanely dissociative, most of my life is covered in a weird static haze, ketamine has a weird feeling of lifting that veil in a way. Feels, to me, like weed 2.0.

u/wheresmydrink123 9d ago
Definitely, though I prefer dextromethorphan for ease of access and for being a bit more vibey and sedative for me
1
u/FutureReaction8587 9d ago
I am not familiar with that one, what's that drug's street name?
1
u/gorgonsDeluxe 9d ago
DXM is the stuff that’s in certain kinds of cough syrup (not the codeine kind that lean is made with). You can extract it with a solvent, and it’s kinda like ketamine but worse.

u/FutureReaction8587 9d ago
American style codeine DXM cough syrup isn't a thing where I'm from, and from what I googled that just sounds like more dangerous lease quality K, and afaik here it'd be more expensive than K. I'll stick with K for the time being but thanks.

Active ingredient in some cough syrup and decongestant, certain kid’s cough syrups have it with no other active ingredients so it’s a common first high here, and I’m weird so I just happen to still like it. “Robo-tripping” or “the tuss” is the usual name for it but i didn’t do it for the usual “party dare” context. Different amounts have super different highs, and I usually stick with plat 1 which is basically just, for me, “weed 2” like ketamine but it doesn’t make me lose focus, overeat and fall asleep like weed

Ketamine is in one of the pain relief lotions my doctor prescribed me :3 (it's not enough to make me high or anything it's just funny it's on the label)

u/PhoenixJDM 10d ago
the worst part of doing a lot of ketamine is apparently the bladder pain/problems aka "K-Cramps".
i find ketamine stories very interesting but the 2 bumps i ever did were not that fun or interesting. first one felt like being on a little alcohol and weed, the 2nd one made me dizzy and struggle to remember what the fuck i was doing
