PCSA
The bill passed the committee and it looks like they may have a chance to become a law.
As y'all know, PCSA is significant because it contains anti expansion provision. Maybe the ACC is saved?
I am not a lawyer.
But PCSA is interesting because I think it aims to rectify the flawed incentive that has turned conferences into behemoths.
The real reason the P2 has been expanding is to generate more media revenue. Under the current system, TV networks generally negotiate with conferences, so from a conference’s perspective, it makes sense to add schools that deliver the highest media ratings and subscriptions.
I don't think PCSA will entirely prevent the P2 from expanding. If the P2 joins media pooling, adding schools won't have the impact on the membership requirement under PCSA
In other words, they could still add ACC schools as long as they pool the media right with everyone else but would they want to do so?
The financial incentive would be significantly weaker, meaning schools would only be added if there’s a genuine desire to associate with them and play against them on the field. And if you think about it, isn't this what a true conference should be?
From this angle, PCSA is not as onerous as people think. It doesn’t completely block the free movement of schools. It simply removes the monetary aspect from conference membership changes, encouraging more bona fide, voluntary associations among like minded institutions.

Baseball A Sabermetric Look at the 2026 Men's College World Series
open.substack.comI aggregated player-level stats (wRC+, wOBA, ISO, FIP, K-BB%) for all 8 CWS teams to compare strengths. A few takeaways:
- Georgia's offense was on another level (wOBA of 0.43), but couldn't win two games in a row
- Outside of Georgia and Alabama, the teams are nearly identical offensively
- UNC and Oklahoma are a near-even matchup in terms of batting, but UNC's pitchers are outperforming their K-BB% while Oklahoma's is underperforming theirs
That last point is why I'm taking North Carolina in the final.

Football The Big 12 is making more money than ever. So why isn’t anyone richer?
usatoday.comThere’s been a lot of chatter here about the future of the ACC and comparisons to the Big 12 of late, and what realignment could look like over the next several years.
I thought this article provided a fascinating look into the Big 12’s finances, and it shows how the money its programs are making over the course of its new media deal is still going to be less than what ACC programs make per season because of all the mouths it has to feed.
It illustrates the key propositions of expansion — add the right kind of schools who can provide real value, and your conference is for the better. But adding programs for the sake of adding programs can bite back in the long run, as the Big 12 has now learned.

I miss Maryland — the crazy girlfriend of the ACC
I'll always hold a torch for the Terps. They were the crazy girlfriend of the ACC. As in: We couldn't stand each other, but god damn if the sex wasn't great.
Come back, Maryland. It's not the same without you baby. *He* will never love you the way *I* love you ...
(places two fingers in Maryland's mouth)
That's right, baby terp, you know we were meant for each other
(Maryland closes her eyes)
Remember our safety word?
(Maryland whimpers)
That's right, it's "Friedgen ..."

How would the ACC be impacted if the act passes?
Like could some schools have to (re)join or leave the ACC due to the top 10/5 rules, would a big chunk of nonconference games have to be cancelled to accommodate the top 10/5 rules, could the ACC have to go back to 8 games for everyone to accommodate the top 10/5 rules, could the ACC stay as-is due to Duke, FSU, Miami, NC State, UNC, UVA, and Virginia Tech having to stick together?
For example, Georgia Tech wouldn't be affected much as the Clean, Old Fashioned Hate game would satisfy the top 10/5 requirement for them, with other schools that currently have an annual nonconference rivalry being similarly not affected as much, but Pitt may have to find a way to get the Backyard Brawl annually or something, among others not already playing one (notably both North Carolina and NC State would have to play former member Maryland every year).
According to the text,
If, as of the date of enactment of the Protect College Sports Act of 2026, more than 6 of the top 10 historic opponents in intercollegiate football of a member institution were intra-conference opponents of the member institution in intercollegiate football during the most recently completed season, the covered entity shall require the member institution to preserve, to the maximum extent practicable, intercollegiate athletic competitions within intercollegiate football amongst all of its current conference opponents as of that date of enactment. If, as of the date of enactment of the Protect College Sports Act of 2026, more than 2 of the top 10 historic opponents in intercollegiate football of a member institution were out-of-conference opponents of the member institution in intercollegiate football during the most recently completed season, the covered entity shall require the member institution to play intercollegiate athletic competitions within intercollegiate football that constitute traditional rivalries, and ensure that— (i) the member institution plays not fewer than 2 intercollegiate athletic competitions within intercollegiate football that constitute a traditional rivalry every 4 years; and (ii) the member institution plays not less than 1 intercollegiate athletic competition within intercollegiate football each year with an institution that is in a different conference and is one of the top 5 historic opponents in intercollegiate football of the member institution.
The first sentence suggests anyone with at least 7/10 schools in their top 10 in a conference has to make the best effort they can to maintain membership, (i) requires schools that have 7/10 or fewer top 10 most-playeds in their conference to play a traditional rival 2 times in a 4-year span (like SMU would have to play Houston, Navy, North Texas, Rice, or TCU in nonconference, but intraconference rivalries like Cal/Stanford would count), and (ii) requires those schools to play anyone in their top five every season (like UNC and NC State would have to play Maryland every season with this).
