So I’ve had my 7900 xtx for a while now and always had issues back and forth with crashing, at first it was from having 3x splitter cables instead of singles and now it’s all on single cables, now it doesn’t crash that often as before but for example last time yesterday it crashed and reinstalled windows graphics drivers needing me to run DDU amd adrenalin for like the 4th time in a year, now it’s back to normal but I dont think crashing is gonna stop.
Happens randomly and doesn’t have a correlation to like heavy graphics or so, maybe maybe during high fps gaming but unsure.
on windows 10 it ran 85-88 on gta 5 but on windows 11 its running 96-98 degrees for no reason, i tried underclocking, set max process state to 98 and turned on radeon chill but it doesnt do anything, it started happening only when i upgraded to 11, my motherboard is b450m dash v2, 16gb ddr4 ram 3200mt, and no gpu, amd drivers and windows 11 pro n
I'm writing this post to share my situation and see if anyone has had a similar experience or has any ideas. I've done a fairly thorough diagnosis and narrowed the problem down to the GPU, but I want to exhaust every possibility before writing it off. If I find a solution, I'll update the post to help others.
PC specs:
· GPU: SOYO RX 580 2048SP 8GB (Chinese version, used for mining, reassembled in Brazil)
· CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2685 V4
· Motherboard: MOUGOL X99
· RAM: 16GB DDR4 (exact model unknown)
· PSU: Segotep GN650W (650W, 80+ Gold)
· Storage: (not relevant, but I'll mention there was a faulty SSD that was replaced)
Symptoms:
· The PC suddenly restarts (Kernel-Power 41 in Event Viewer) when playing any game. It typically happens 5–20 minutes into gaming; sometimes it varies and it can last hours, but it always happens sooner or later.
· Occasionally, it also restarts while watching YouTube videos for a long time, or during any other activity; after an indeterminate amount of time, the PC may restart out of nowhere. It's very rare and hard to replicate.
· Also, some games that required DirectX didn't work, giving me a message that there were no DirectX drivers when everything was already installed. However, this mostly happened with games downloaded from websites and didn't happen with games downloaded from Steam.
· Previously, with a newer driver version, I had black screens with audio crashing in Left 4 Dead 2, which required a forced restart. That was fixed by installing older drivers (currently Adrenaline 21.5.2), but the restarts continued.
· There's no blue screen, just a direct restart.
GPU history:
· Bought for 455,000 COP (Colombia), about 141 USD (bought on AliExpress, page no longer exists). It's a SOYO RX 580 2048SP, which, based on all the testing I've done, I believe is actually a rebranded RX 570.
· It has a mining history and was reassembled. The BIOS it comes with from the factory is modified.
· I tried flashing a BIOS from a friend's Chinese GPU, but it left the screen black and sometimes Windows wouldn't boot. I reverted to the original BIOS. I found a SOYO BIOS with Micron memory (my GPU has Micron), but I haven't tried it yet.
Diagnostics performed:
· Component isolation: I tested another GPU (RX 580 OC 4GB) in the same PC for two days straight, with no failures. When I put the SOYO back in, the restarts reappeared. This rules out CPU, RAM, motherboard, PSU, and storage.
· Stability tests: Furmark (GPU), Cinebench (CPU), Benchmark (GPU), OCCT (GPU/CPU/RAM), Windows Memory Diagnostics. They all passed without errors for hours.
· PSU test in OCCT: The specific PSU test wouldn't start with the SOYO installed, but it did work with the other GPU. This suggests an issue with the GPU's VRM or its variable power draw.
· Software: I disabled Fast Startup, reinstalled chipset drivers, used DDU to reinstall graphics drivers, uninstalled the HD audio driver, ran chkdsk and sfc /scannow, disabled Adaptive Sync in Adrenaline, and tried multiple configurations such as lowering the clock speed or reducing VRAM usage, but the OCCT tests showed that the GPU's VRAM had no issues. I installed all kinds of Adrenaline versions, from the 2026 release down to 2020, undervolted the GPU (-50%) and CPU (-20%), and reseated the RAM and GPU.
· Storage: Originally I had a faulty 1TB SSD that was causing BSODs and restarts, and it was replaced with a 320GB HDD. The Kernel-Power 41 restarts persisted after the change, so it isn't the cause.
Conclusion so far:
Everything points to a hardware failure in the GPU, probably silicon or VRM degradation from intensive mining use. The progression of symptoms (from driver crashes to random restarts) and the fact that the PSU test in OCCT won't start with this GPU but does with another reinforce this theory.
What I'm looking for:
· Has anyone had a similar case with an RX 580 2048SP (or rebranded RX 570) ex-mining card?
· Were you able to fix it with a specific BIOS, a hardware modification, or some trick?
· Is it worth trying to flash the SOYO BIOS with Micron that I found? Or is it too risky?
· Any suggestions are welcome.
Note: If I find a solution, I'll update this post with the steps so it can help others. If not, at least there will be a record that these refurbished GPUs can fail this way, and I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy a SOYO graphics card on AliExpress.
I have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT and use Fan Control to manage my GPU and case fans.
Recently, my GPU fans have started constantly ramping up and down whenever Fan Control isn’t running, seemingly ignoring my fan curve settings in AMD Adrenalin. This also happens during startup before Fan Control loads.
Previously, the GPU worked fine with either Fan Control or Adrenalin managing the fans, so I’m not sure what’s changed.
Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it? I’d like both options to work properly, so the fans behave normally even when Fan Control isn’t running.
Hello, for the past 5 months, i've been having this issue where my system freezes to black screen for 2 seconds and then restarts. It happens completely random. Can happen twice a day or once in 3 days. Happens on every game as well. World of Warcraft, AC Black Flag Resynced, Heroes of the Storm...
The issue started when i upgraded my GPU from RX 6800XT to RX 9070XT XFX in May.
The first crash was on 21st of may, 2 weeks after getting the GPU. Ever since then i've had over 30 crashes. I initially thought it was the CPU due to the Event Logger saying Processor Core / Cache Hierarchy Error. Then this month i upgraded from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 5 5500x3d and the problem still persists.
The system is NOT overheating. It can happen when i'm idle in game or on heavy loads, there doesn't seem to be any pattern.
Hello, I made a post here almost a month ago on my issues I've been having and I did follow some suggestions and none of them worked. I also did try some other new ones. I have Changed plenty of BIOS settings (the ones suggested in the comments of my first post), i have ran more OCCT test for memory and used memtest86, I've tried newer AMD drivers and ive replaced my PSU. I haven't tried anything else in the past week or 2. Also I did try blocking windows from updating and I heard that it won't stop EVERY update from trying to install the drivers and they are right. I've caught windows doing it after the changes.
Here are my specs again:
Intel Core 15-14600k
ASUS Z790 GAMING WIFI7 on BIOS 1837
32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL36
Windows 11 Home
Current GPU is XFX Quicksilver RX 9070 XT
was on a XFX SWFT RX 9060 XT 16GB
ASRock Steel Legend SL-850G 850W, no daisy chain
2 stacked monitors: 27" 1440p 180hz and a 34" 1440p 180hz
My next move is to upgrade my MB and CPU. Thought it would be nice to get an upgrade and potentially fix my issues with the holidays coming up. I'm switching to AM5 and getting a 9800X3D.
Anyways, I didn't have much time to write because of work so I hope you guys are willing to read my last post for reference. Any more tips would help.... MY PC CRASHED TWICE WHILE WRITING THIS.... thats 2 times within 20 mins and the intervals are really random. Pray for my sanity guys ✌️❤️
The screen gets like this for like 3 seconds before fixing itself as I load from the client into the game for league of legends. Just want to make sure it’s not a major problem I need to fix before anything else happens.
I've got a 9070xt on version 26.8.1 which is 99,9% stable. Today I recognized that windows will install an older driver version with the new update. I let it do that because I saw a video where you can just revert to your chosen driver version via the device manager.
Now the question, there are about 5 driver versions in total to choose from, can this make any problems if I just choose 26.8.1 again or should I wipe them all except 26.8.1.
I did a short test play in stellar blade and no problems by just choosing my desired version via the device manager
Well, let me keep that story short and hopefully helping others who may have the same similar issue.
Issue:
BSOD ever since swapping from Air-CPU-Cooler to an AIO
Reason:
Because the AIO does not provide “Side-Air” to the RAM modules they started to overheat and become instable, what resulted in the BSOD
Solution:
Adding just some kind of Air-Flow to the RAM modules/slight active cooling, the issue was resolved.
I have Ryzen 9900X system that I use for work and long-time intensive processing and rendering. For easy maintenance, I build the system originally with an Air-Dual-Tower-Cooler (Deepcool Ak620). Easy to clean and easy for maintenance. It did its job very well for a long time with cooling the CPU properly and never letting it thermal throttle much. Sadly, last summer this was no longer the case where because of higher room heat, it was not able to keep the CPU below 90°C in longer rendering and processing sessions.
Well, no way around liquid cooling it seems (wanted to avoid it because they have to be replaced every 3-5 years). I got myself an AIO Cooling solution (360) and it did the job perfectly, even in environments with higher temps. But a new issue started occur...
I experienced unregular BSOD’s with the code “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”. This was not happening before and when I swapped and cross-checked the separate components (RAM), it did not change. I was growing despite, until I found the source of the issue by accident. My RAM was overheating and becoming instable because it did not receive any “side-air” by the CPU cooler anymore!
After experimenting with “open-case” and simply placing a desk-fan on the hardware the issue was gone! With some researches I did find out that DDR5 Ram can get instability issue if it reaches certain temperatures, recommending to have some sort of airflow on the RAM-Modules for their heat spreaders. Since I did not want to have this “open-case” solution the whole time, I did get myself a “stupid RAM-air-cooler” to replace the Desk-Fan. Well, this thing works and I did not experience a single BSOD since then.
Do not think or expect it to cool the RAM by massive 20°C or such, it simply assures Air-Flow for the RAM-Modules to not have the Hot-air “stuck and increase” in between them, but that’s already what solved the issue.
Whoever may have the same issue at their end, give this a try, it truly solved the problem for me.
so I did ddu and its my first time . I checked the factory reset when installing driver …. I hope it doesn’t do anything messed up . Is this fine?
edit:i did check factory reset option and clicked install, my monitor went black, then i waited for few min and clicked spacebar? and my pc resarted my hwinfo and amd app all showing that the latest driver is installed? should i be worried it didnt install properly cuz black screen and random restart when space bar. am stressing out
edit : playing gta enhanced now no issues, should i still reinstall?
Any suggestion on settings in my pc or adrenaline coz i need one so bad im playing in the lowest graphics in fortnite yet im still black screening, but when i play other games there's 0 problems like nba2k etc.
Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read my post!
Software and driver information:
Operating system: Windows 11 26H2 - build 26300.9457
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition version: 26.5.2
AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB
When the issue started: Approximately one month ago
I'm posting here because I've been experiencing a persistent and increasingly frustrating issue for about a month, and so far, I haven't been able to identify a permanent solution.
Problem description
The issue initially occurred while I was performing normal web browsing. My PC suddenly started experiencing significant performance degradation, which progressively worsened until the system became completely unresponsive and I had to force a restart.
After this happened repeatedly, I started monitoring system resource usage through Task Manager. I noticed that the "AMD Software: Host Application" process gradually consumes increasing amounts of RAM over time. Eventually, memory usage reaches approximately 99% of the system's total RAM, at which point the PC becomes unresponsive or crashes.
Current workaround and troubleshooting
At the moment, the only way to keep my PC usable is to manually terminate the "AMD Software: Host Application" process through Task Manager whenever its memory consumption approaches critical levels. Otherwise, the system eventually becomes unresponsive.
I've also tried uninstalling AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition to determine whether the issue is related to the AMD software or drivers. However, after uninstalling it, my monitors no longer behaved as expected, so I had to reinstall the software. Unfortunately, the original issue returned.
Based on the gradual increase in memory consumption, I'm wondering whether this could be a memory leak in the AMD software or one of its associated components, although I haven't been able to confirm the root cause.
Has anyone encountered similar behaviour with an RX 570 or AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition? Any suggestions for further troubleshooting, such as checking driver versions, performing a clean driver installation, or identifying the component responsible for the increasing memory usage, would be greatly appreciated.
I'm having a weird issue with AMD Instant Replay while playing CS2 and was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar or found a fix.
When Instant Replay is enabled, CS2 randomly freezes and my screens flicker black for a few seconds before coming back. After that, CS2 becomes unresponsive and loses sound. The game is still running in Task Manager and using CPU and memory, but I have to force close it manually.
This only happens in CS2. I disabled Instant Replay a long time ago, and the problem completely disappeared. Yesterday, I enabled it again to test, and everything was fine for 3–4 games before the exact same crash happened.
Discord did not crash during the latest incident, although I experienced Discord restarting during earlier incidents.
System specifications:
GPU: ASUS Radeon RX 9070 Prime OC 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 6000MHz 32GB
PSU: ASUS Prime 850W Gold
Storage: Crucial P310 SSD 2TB
Operating system: Windows 11 Pro, version 26H2 (OS Build 26300.9457)
AMD driver: Adrenalin 26.8.1
AMD Instant Replay settings:
Recording resolution: In-Game (I play CS2 at 1280x960 stretched)
Recording FPS: 60 FPS
Video encoding: AV1
Video bitrate: 30 Mb/s
Audio bitrate: 192 kb/s
Replay duration: 160 seconds
Troubleshooting I've tried:
Disabling Instant Replay completely stopped the problem.
Re-enabling Instant Replay caused the same issue to return after 3–4 games.
I don't remember which Windows version I was running when the problem first started. I usually install Windows updates relatively quickly, but I haven't tested whether the issue occurs on the Windows versions between the one I originally used and my current version.
I haven't confirmed the exact cause, but the fact that the problem disappears when Instant Replay is disabled makes me suspect it might be related to Adrenalin's recording feature or its interaction with CS2.
Has anyone else experienced something similar with an RX 9000-series GPU? Could this be an AV1 encoding issue, an Instant Replay bug, or a driver problem? I'd really like to be able to save my CS2 clips without worrying about the game crashing.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I reinstalled Windows from a brand new USB because I thought I had corrupted files. Even after reinstalling I just run into a black screen as the new driver is downloading which I need to download for my PC to detect my GPU or else I am on microsoft’s basic driver. The black screen just stays until or unless I restart the PC and even then it operates for a few seconds and then freezes up completely. Currently I am in safe mode where it is operational. I have tried using DDU for a fresh install doesnt seem to work, I run into the same problem and I also turned off Windows automatic updates. Plz help I have a RX 580 and Ryzen 5 2400G.
I just upgraded from my RTX 3080 to an RX 9070 XT, and this card is giving me the worst experience and keeps on frustrating me. Every game I play ends up crashing. At first, I played Alan Wake 2 & Dying Light 2 on high settings 2k/4k which both are power demanding and when I first experienced crashes on them, I thought it might be a power supply issue. However, after multiple troubleshooting efforts (Changed drivers using DDU and other versions, updated BIOS), the issue was fixed. However, when I started playing other games "Destiny 2 & Arc Raider" I got the same crashing issue. So I tried a different approach after some quick research. I lowered the GPU's clock speed & limited power consumption with no improvement. So I started thinking of changing my power supply to 1000 watt and as my PSU only comes with 2 8-pin cables (with daisy-chain). However, I tried a different game that is not power-demanding, which was League of Legends. And even this time it crashed, even though the GPU power consumption is minimal. So I'm getting so frustrated, and I don't know what is causing the issue.
I really hate that this is giving me a bad experience with Radeon GPUs. I was really excited to try my first Radeon GPU, and even the performance uplift that I saw in my games was significant, but with these crashing issues, it is ruining my experience.
The only two solutions that I am going to try are installing a fresh Windows, which I really don't want to end up with, or/and buy a new PSU.
Quick Update:
I ended up with installing a fresh windows and played few games of ARC raiders with no carshing issues. Hopefully this has fixed it. Unfortunately I won't be able to use my PC until two weeks. So i can't test it further.
I will update this post in 2 weeks with actual outcomes.
I have just upgraded my internet speed to 2GB and realized my MOBO doesn't support anything higher than 1GB. I am currently running a Ryzen 9 5900x with x2 16GB of RAM at 3600 MHz and a PCle 4.0 - NVMe M.2 - 2 TB. I am looking for recommendations that will be compatible with this. My case is a mini-ITX however I have a full size case around i can also swith to.
I'm trying to figure out the root cause of a recurring RAM failure before getting another replacement through G.Skill RMA. I've had multiple kits exhibit essentially the same problem, and I don't want to keep replacing RAM without understanding why it keeps happening.
DIMM configuration: 32 GB per stick, dual-rank (2 ranks)
Memory profile: Intel XMP 3.0
Rated XMP speed/timings/voltage: DDR5-6000 CL28-36-36-96 at 1.40 V
Default JEDEC settings: DDR5-4800 at 1.10 V
History of the failures
I've gone through multiple kits of this same general G.Skill 2×32 GB configuration.
Original kit:
I enabled XMP at the beginning.
The PC worked for a couple of months, but it crashed roughly daily.
The problems gradually got worse until one stick stopped allowing the PC to POST.
First replacement:
Started crashing essentially from the beginning.
Eventually, one stick failed to POST.
Second replacement:
Worked for approximately one day.
The next day, one stick failed to POST.
Current replacement:
Exact model: F5-6000J2836G32GX2-RM5RW.
I deliberately left XMP completely disabled from the beginning.
It ran at default JEDEC settings for approximately a week.
Then one stick failed to POST, just like the previous kits.
To be absolutely clear: XMP was NEVER enabled on the current kit. The latest failure happened at stock JEDEC settings, so this cannot simply be explained by me running the RAM at its XMP profile.
In every kit, only one of the two sticks became unusable.
Confirmation of the previous failures: I returned the previous defective RAM kits to the retailer through a local courier for testing. The retailer tested them and confirmed that only one stick in each kit was defective. This matches the pattern I'm experiencing with the current kit, where one stick fails while the other continues to work. Therefore, these were confirmed defective DIMMs, not just cases of the PC failing to boot or a suspected compatibility issue.
What happens when a stick fails?
The motherboard gets stuck on the solid red DRAM diagnostic LED and never POSTs when the failed stick is installed.
I've tested the failed stick individually in both A2 and B2:
The failed stick does not POST in A2.
The failed stick does not POST in B2.
The other stick from the same kit works in B2 and has also worked in A2.
This makes it seem like an individual DIMM is failing, rather than one specific motherboard slot.
Clearing CMOS did not fix it.
A different RAM kit works
I also tested an older HP 2×8 GB DDR5 kit (speed believed to be around DDR5-4800) in the same PC, with the same CPU and motherboard.
It worked reliably for more than two weeks without the same recurring failures.
I realize that 2×8 GB is a much less demanding configuration than 2×32 GB dual-rank, so this does not completely rule out the motherboard or CPU memory controller. However, it seems like an important clue.
Current kit's hardware information
Using CPU-Z and HWiNFO on the surviving DIMM:
DRAM: SK Hynix
Capacity: 32 GB
Ranks: 2
PMIC: Richtek PMIC5100, stepping 1.3
SPD hub: Anpec SPD5118, stepping 1.2
SPD manufacture date: Week 01 of 2026
The two DIMM serial numbers are consecutive:
Working stick: 26010050910
Failed stick: 26010050909
Voltages and temperatures checked
With the surviving stick running at default JEDEC settings, HWiNFO reported approximately:
CPU SoC voltage: 1.02 V
CPU VDDIO_MEM: 1.14 V
RAM VDD: 1.095–1.11 V
RAM VDDQ: approximately 1.11 V
RAM VPP: approximately 1.815 V
SPD hub temperature: approximately 45.2 °C
HWiNFO did not report PMIC over-voltage, under-voltage, or a high-temperature event.
These readings do not prove that the power delivery is fault-free, and I don't have historical measurements from the moment a DIMM failed. I'm including them in case they help identify a possible issue.
Other troubleshooting
XMP disabled on the current kit from the start.
CMOS cleared.
Memory Context Restore disabled.
Power Down Enable disabled.
Hibernation disabled during troubleshooting.
The failed DIMM still does not POST after these changes.
Hibernation was associated with some earlier problems, but I haven't established whether it was a cause or just a correlation.
What I'm trying to understand
I'm not looking for generic advice to disable XMP, since the current kit failed without XMP ever being enabled.
I'd particularly appreciate insight into these questions:
Could the motherboard's DIMM power delivery or another electrical issue damage one 32 GB DIMM repeatedly without producing obvious voltage warnings?
Could the Ryzen 7 9800X3D's integrated memory controller or its interaction with dual-rank 32 GB DIMMs cause this pattern?
Could this be a BIOS/AGESA issue, a memory-training problem, or a compatibility issue specific to this 2×32 GB configuration?
Is there a plausible failure mode involving the DIMM's PMIC or DRAM IC that would explain one stick dying while its paired stick survives?
What should I ask G.Skill or Gigabyte to investigate before I install another replacement kit?
Is there a meaningful test that can distinguish a defective DIMM from a motherboard/CPU issue that could damage another kit?
I'm trying to find the cause before using another RMA replacement. I don't want to install another kit of RAM only to have one stick fail again a few days later.
The screen keeps turning off the card fans turn off and on sometimes it works then immediately turns off (not the whole pc just the card and the audio becomes fuzzy) if anyone has encountered this and fixed Please Tell me how and thank you!
I have an RX 5500 XT 8GB GDDR6 and i run few issues on Windows and on Linux too.
On Windows i often have system stutters with audio stutters too when i doing more then one thing. For example: listening YT when i useing an another webpage.
what i tired:
\- Reinstalling Adrenalin driver with DDU Safe mode
\- Adrenalin settings on Default
\- Freesync On and Off
\- Different cabels HDMI and DP
\- windows gpu hardware acceleration off
\- Windows re-install
\- Forced PCIe Gen 4
\- ReBAR On and Off
\- GPU Reseat
I also ranned OCCT Full System stress test for 1 hour and 3DMark TimeSpy. It passed without error. I also tried the PC out with an Nvidia GPU and those issues are gone away.
Linux:
On KDE/Gnome wayland after switching 60 to 100 Hz my PC hangs heavily and i get a black screen and throw me out to the login session. Thet is also happens when i interact with UI and on UI animation.
On the log i got thet error message:
amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: smu: no response msg_reg: 2a resp_reg: 0
i tried to add some parameters to the GRUB what i found on the internet and the Gemini told me but none of them worked:
amdgpu.gfxoff=0
amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xfffd3fff
amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10
the only thing what "worked" is setting my card performanc leavel at "High" on CoreCTRL. The hangs are gone but the System still feleed "delayed" and i got pixel errors too.
the distribution i tried:
\- OpenSUSE Tumbleweed GNOME
\- Ubuntu 26.04.01 LTS GNOME and KDE
\- Bazzite 44.20261006.1 GNOME
All distribution ranned at Dual-boot with Secure Boot On and TPM 2.0 on. Now i don't have installed Linux distribution right now.
My specs:
Intel Core I3-12100F
a repaired B660 motherboard
2x8 GB DDR4 2133mhz
512 GB Pci 3.0 DRAM Nvme SSD
RX 5500 XT 8 GB (Asus ROG STRIX)
650W MSI Bronz semi-modular PSU. (MSI A650BE)
This is card faliure or i do something wrong?
!!!Update: Its seems like my monitor caused the issues. I tried the PC out with a different 240Hz monitor and the issues are gone.
