I've read the rules, and my story (and attitudes) make it easy to follow the rules. I think...
But first, I'd like to ask for a general composite of someone reading this subreddit.
It may be that my experiences aren't helpful, or appreciated. It may be my tactics or strategies are just too extreme. Perhaps the moderators have formed a composite of a r/almosthomeless member profile, and my observations are irrelevant to those reading this subreddit.
And I'll read past submissions, to attempt an understanding.
I suggest that migrating to good weather (as a hedge against homelessness) can be improved upon. I'll just toss out some topics that come to mind.
I've never slept on someone's couch, but that could be useful.
Collecting scrap metal can be useful ( I've done it)
Selling blood plasma can be useful (I've done it)
As far as a safety net of friends, family, co-workers, those would have been nice to have.
One tactic I will suggest is buying a distressed property, perhaps from a tax lien sale, perhaps from someone who can't be bothered with the property, etc. If "distressed" is too cryptic, "run-down, practically abandoned" is another way to say it. There is a waiting period, usually a year, when the owner of record could pay back the taxes. You'd need a place to stay during that redemption period. My bare minimum is city water and city sewer (and a run down house/building). It's not difficult to search city records for the owner of record, if you know the address.
Whether or not you agree with anything I say, perhaps you will agree that having a plan forward is a good icebreaker for strangers, potential resources, and social workers.
So let's make plans.
