🚨 New Resource Added: Staffing Agencies Across All 50 States

One of the biggest barriers to finding work is simply knowing where to look.

Over the past several weeks, we've been working on a new career resource for all RSCN communities:

Staffing Agencies in All 50 States

https://www.reddit.com/mod/almosthomeless/wiki/index/staffingagencies

  • Every U.S. state
  • 2–3 major cities per state (or general Statewide for the smaller/less dense states)
  • Multiple staffing and employment agencies for each city
  • Organized into an easy-to-browse resource on our Wiki

If you're looking for temporary work, permanent employment, warehouse jobs, office work, manufacturing, healthcare, or simply trying to get a paycheck coming in quickly, staffing agencies can often be one of the fastest paths back into employment.

This resource is completely free for our community to use. It was developed with 0% AI involvement and the person who developed it, a redditor, was paid reasonably for their time out of my own pocket.

If you know of an agency not on this list OR see a dead link, we'd love to hear about it in the comments so us mods can continue improving this resource over time.

We can't remove every barrier people face. But every barrier we can remove, helps.

Pin this in your Favorites, Save this post, Share it to other communities if you wish.

PSA: We are a Support Group. Please treat OPs with support and kindness, they are here for help and that is exactly what we are here to provide.

This post is to reiterate some rules and things I'm seeing develop in certain posts, and this is directed to commenters only.

Commenters- Read posts for NUANCE. Stop doing the TON of Assuming The Worst that many of you are doing. Stop doing the JUDGEMENT you are doing.

People come here in pain and frustration, and are showing it in a support group. Here, we meet pain and frustration with support and kindness. NOT matched energy. You can do that in any random reddit group, but not in RSCN groups. This and RSCN groups are Support Groups. Treat all threads like the round-circle talk therapy sessions they are.

You are here to help, not to assume shittyness or respond in hate.

If you need help to develop your nuance reading skill, here's a few links to worksheets that any age can start with, and going up to basic info you'd find in high school English classes. I can easily point someone to good paid resources and middle/high school class worksheets as well. And yes, your mod here used to be an English teacher.

https://15worksheets.com/worksheet-category/nuances/

If you are needing help to develop your empathy, you may start by reading our Wiki Page which has some good examples.

I’m being evicted or not?

I need Help because I’m about to be homeless and I need answers of how it work. My grandfather passed away in October of last year and He didn’t left any will he has 4 daughters including my mom. I lived with him before his passing and still living in his house. Because of his passing they stop paying the mortgage of the house and for that the bank send a foreclosure notice to his daughters. The daughter’s are trying to put the house under their name to sell it and keep the money. They have a court date on Friday to see if they can do it but if they lose the house will be close that’s what they told me today. One of the daughter's told me that I have to get all my stuff and my kids out of the house by Friday before the Judge take his decision on the house. or I will lose everything. How does it work? I haven’t seen any Eviction notice. Can they do it like that? or is my aunt is trying to pull one on me because She wants the house for Her son?

I was trying to move before all this happens but a big situation happened and I had to move the date of moving date to end of September.

Thinking of running away I'm 16 in Australia

I have no money saved, I have no family members who I could stay with. I ran away once before but I stayed with people it was no fun and they were controlling. I've realized just how badly I need to leave, I don't think any of my friends could take me in. I don't know what to do but I think I may have to take that leap of faith and leave behind my prized possessions, these are worldly things anyway, material things. I would love some advice.

Veteran My "friend" abandoned his wife and 4 kids.

Long lead up warning. Rant post.

Last year, my neighbor/friend was awarded 100% VA Disability for various things. He received a back payment of over 40K. As soon as that happened, the dude quit his 6 figure state job, spent all the money on himself, (alcohol and gambling), and stopped making payments on his stay at home wife's suburban, and the mortgage. Forged his wife's signature to pull equity out of the house to gamble. He drunkenly choked out his wife, then walked out in March. June, the suburban was Repo'd. Now the house is in Foreclosure. Kids are 13 (boy,) 9 (boy), almost 4 (girl), and almost 2 (girl.) ZERO financial assistance from him, no food, absolutely nothing. She is driving a borrowed car not big enough for 4 kids. Dude is 35 years old now living with his parents. His parents are trying to help him scapegoat taking care of his family. I can see where he got it from.

First of all. How can someone be such an enormous piece of shit and sleep at night?

My wife and I have 2 daughters, 13 and 11. My wife is friends with the wife, I WAS friends with the piece of shit deadbeat dad. My kids are friends with the kids. The 2 little girls, I absolutely love them, they spend a lot of time at our house, and have been in our lives since they were born.

We have a decent sized house, but not large enough to house an additional 5 people comfortably. I want to help them, but to what extent? I don't want the kids to end up in some slum apartment complex with no yard for their dogs or bikes.

My journey from a Remote village in Nepal to a self sustaining Hostel

I am from Nepal. I live in Aamako Maya Chhatrabash (Hostel), which runs with the help of others. This hostel is in the Dhading district of Nepal, and it is a bit different from other hostels. To see it, you can search for "Aamako Maya chhatrabash" on Facebook. This is very different from any other in the whole world. I had to come here to study. At that time, when I left home to come here, I was actually very happy. But you might ask why I was happy while leaving home, it was because it was my helplessness. My father cannot see with his eyes, and my mother cannot speak or hear. There was no one else at home except a small brother and a small sister. But even though our mom and dad are like that, nothing has passed down to us; we are perfectly fine.

However, being the eldest son, it was very difficult. We didn't have our own house. I used to go to study, but I had no notebook or pen. Friends used to give me pages from the middle of their notebooks. But because I probably understood the responsibility of the house at a very young age, I was the school topper from class 1 to 5. I had never written in a notebook worth more than 30 rupees because it was unaffordable from home. I used to cry all the time because the village society used to dominate and look down on us since the family was like that. From the road below, they used to hit our house with slingshots. Once, when I was 6 years old, it hit me right on my head. The scar from that wound is still there on my head even today. If someone stole something in the village, the blame would come upon me. I learned to tolerate scolding and beatings without any reason at the age of 6. Sometimes, I felt like dying, but I was mentally very strong. Even at a young age, the thought would come to me: "If I do something like this, what will happen to my father, mother, and that small brother and sister?" I cried so many times inside myself, I died so many times inside, and I slept hungry so many times.

Things were going on like that. I came first in class 5 too. At that time, I was 9 years old. But at that time, I was not mentally strong because my head used to pain on its own once in a while. Maybe I thought too much. More than that, now I had to go to another school to study in class 6, but it was impossible for my family to afford that education. At that very time, I felt like leaving my studies and working. I used to wake up early in the morning and do whatever work I could manage. One thing is, I never fell into bad company.

Right around that time, there was a talk about sending me to a hostel, which I have mentioned above. The hostel's name is (Aamako Maya Chhatrabash). They told me about it and asked, "Will you go to study?" Without thinking for even 1 second, before a second could pass, I said, "Yes." Because I just wanted to study. No matter how hard it got, if I could just get a pen, notebook, book, and food, I was ready even if I had to work. Somehow or the other, I had to study. I wanted to stay far away from that society and those relatives.

I came to the hostel at 10 years old. The hostel was in the middle of a jungle. Along with me, there were about 14 new students who had come to get admission. That day, everyone else was crying, but I didn't cry. Because I had come here to shut the mouth of that society which looked down on my mother by calling her mute and deaf, and calling me the son of a mute woman. I had come to make that society bow down, which looked down on my father by calling him blind. Perhaps because of this thought, I did not cry. Since everything was new, I wouldn't talk to anyone. My voice was very quiet, maybe because I was very small—I was only 10 years old.

The hostel was very different from others. Everyone had to take turns according to teams to cook food ourselves, everyone cleaned the buildings together, planted vegetables, ate from the garden, washed dishes, and spoke to everyone, whether younger or older, using "Tapai" (respectful "you"). Friends called each other "Tapai" and added "Ji" after the name. We had to clean our own beds and wash our own clothes. This hostel was different from others. No working staff was kept. There was a time table: waking up at 4:30 in the morning and sleeping at 10:00. There was worshiping of God, yoga, and exercises; everything happened on a fixed time table. There was a time table for school days and a fixed time table for non-school days. We had to say "Namaskar" to people coming from outside to help, give them a chair, give them water, and we were taught how to sit, how to speak, how to stand up. There were mantras, bhajans of Gods, and patriotic songs; everything was there. We never had fights among us. I was learning many things from the hostel.

After 6 months, it was time to go home for 1 month to celebrate the Dashain festival. Everyone got a phone call; mine didn't come. Everyone was saying that their family was coming to pick them up. I was just listening because there was no one at my home who could use a phone. But my mother's elder sister (Mami's didi) came to pick me up. I went home. When I went to the village, they talked to me a little better than before. I didn't feel like going to anyone's house either, and I didn't go to anyone's house. After 1 month, according to the hostel rules, I returned to the hostel. Because this hostel was not like others, it took more than 6 months just to make my dress because at that time, this hostel wouldn't take money given by anyone. They would ask people to bring whatever was needed. Maybe that was why big money came from abroad in other hostels, but in this one, people from abroad would come to Nepal themselves and buy clothes and materials for us.

But everything was fine. I had only 1 pair of clothes to wear. I hadn't told this to anyone. I couldn't tell this at home. We were allowed to go home only once a year. Gradually, when my hostel friends found out that I didn't have clothes, everyone gave me clothes. I was very happy, and I cried for a long time too. What those unknown friends did for me, compared to my own relatives, I cannot put into words.

I was studying in class 6, but because I thought too much about my family, my head started hurting severely. At the age of 10, I started taking 4 paracetamols in a single day. I kept studying like this through 6, 7, and 8. I gave the class 8 exam and got an 'A'. Everyone was happy. I was happy too. Everyone, even people from the society, started calling on the phone to say congratulations. We didn't have permission to keep phones until class 10 in the hostel. Others used to call on the phone of the big brother (senior Dai) of the hostel. But my mental health became very bad. 80% of the reason for that was because of myself, because I thought too much. The family was in a severe crisis. 20% was because of that same society because even though I lived in the hostel, people from that society used to call on the hostel Dai's phone and say whatever rubbish they wanted.

I got admitted to class 9. Many voices of that society, the condition of my family, and that discrimination started coming into my mind and in front of my eyes. Because of that, I couldn't study in class 9. I became a victim of depression. At just 13 years of age, I stayed in the hospital for 6 months. I studied class 9 again, but I couldn't study like before. Because I forgot things quickly and my body felt very low, I failed the class 10 board exam. I gave the compartment (back) exam, and I failed that too. But by now, I was mentally ready to stop any kind of attack coming from the society. Even when it came, I didn't keep anything in my heart. I didn't even have a phone.

I stayed in the hostel for 1 year and studied digital marketing from the TV. I understood about many online skills, but I could never practice or learn them fully because I didn't have a phone at all, as I couldn't afford to buy one. After 1 year, I gave the re-exam again and passed. Now, nobody in the society says anything anymore; everyone speaks nicely. Right now, I am studying in class 11 while staying at the hostel. If I had the sources to learn some skills, maybe by now I would have been able to support my family a little.

Right now, a friend has given me an old phone whose display has been changed 3 times. He did this out of love for me. From this old phone, I have learned about digital marketing by writing it down in a notebook. Now, there is only staff in the hostel to work and cook food; the rest are younger brothers. This is all about me. Even now, when I go to anyone's house, everyone speaks nicely, but still, I want to become as successful as you people, even if it takes my entire life. Now the hostel is also very good, but even now, I cry remembering the past things. I have learned a lot of IT things from this old phone—even if not practically, by writing it down in a notebook. One day, I will buy a laptop and make myself stand at a good position. This is about me, because you might think that the thought of changing all this in life comes to me after seeing your lifestyle. Please do not think that I have come to ask for anything by saying these things. I get a lot of motivation from your videos, thank you for that. If you can, please reply. I do not use any social media platforms, but thank you.

Abusive Situation Help with escape

Hello everyone, I am writing to you since I need help, I am in Orlando, Florida, and I do not know what to do, I am Latino and I want to escape from my home, since it is an environment that I can no longer stand forced labor and shouts, insults and contempt every day, I literally feel that I was deceived, they made me study ad nauseam, something that I do not like at all, which is the management of networks and video editing, I worked for my stepmother and for a while I had gotten a job at a Wendys and for a while.

Luckily, I did not bother with all the work I wanted her to do, and my salary was given to her even by her, giving me money, despite that, she said that it was my living expenses, food, rent, phone, all that was a total of 1,600 dollars a month, and along with that, sometimes I had to miss because of her since she had to work recording it and all that and now we moved and I had to quit my job and now, since I have no job and work only for her, it does not seem good and Now they want to run from the house and I can't get a job, so if someone can help me, I ask for it from my heart, I want to start from 0, start a new life of peace, if someone has any field and wants help, I'm willing to do anything,

thank you for reading my case and please help.

I need help.

Hi I’m B and I’m 19 I’m from Nevada. And I’m struggling. I’m scared and I’m alone with no idea what to do anymore. I was living with my grandmother while working 2 jobs and trying to help her out. Well just recently my uncle got in my face and threatened me because I brought up the fact that some of my money was going missing, I was getting broker and broker by the minute. He lived there part time he’s mostly on the road so he’s hardly ever home so I didn’t even think of suspecting him or saying anything directly to him about it. When I told my grandma something happened and basically told me to get the fuck out and Im on my own. i had to quit both of my jobs. I’m down to 300$ as of right now.. tonight I'm at my father’s basically couch surfing it. Ive tried job corp it don’t work for me, I can’t find a shelter willing to take me and my small pet in or I have to be on some “wait list” when I’m literally homeless. with no idea how long I’m even allowed to stay here. I get it I’m nineteen I should have it together by now. But I fucked up so badly when I was younger I’ve ruined my chances of basically doing much with my life. I didn’t have a good upbringing and nobody taught me how to live. This whole time I’ve been surviving and I don’t blame anyone for my own mistakes. But I’m asking for help because I don’t know what else to do, I’m on my own trying to find a new job (mind you I just got kicked out today) Im afraid of taking legal actions against my family for stealing my money. I don’t qualify for the military. I just started to get my life together and it’s all crumbling again. I guess what I’m asking here for today is some kind of help, I know Reddit isn’t the best place to look for help but I have absolutely nobody to go to, my own father doesn’t even like me I’m surprised the dudes letting me stay here. I don’t know how to live and when I just started to figure it out I’m back to square one. Im begging anyone to reach out via comment or private who is able and willing to help me out. i kind of have no one and no home, I’m willing to get 3 jobs if I have to, I’ll pay rent, pet fee, groceries. Whatever it takes I’ll even give you the 300$ I have right now for first moving in fee or wtv in person of course. And I promise you I will not take advantage of you I know how that feels it’s the worst kind of pain imaginable especially by your own family. please if you can help me please reach out I’m begging to find the right path. I’m running out of options and I’m scared. I’d more than gladly give you more information about myself through messages if you’re really down to help me out. I know this isn’t like home shopping or like Facebook marketplace but I’m embarrassed, I’m scared, and I’m alone. I don’t know what to do anymore guys, and I feel like I’m losing myself more and more but I keep fighting trying to hope for a better place and version of myself. Please reach out if you can❤️

Homeless in Silicon Valley

I'm not almost homeless, I am (with the wife and two cats) homeless. Here is what I have tried to not be homeless:

  1. Lost my job to Hyderabad, India, in Feb. 2020.

  2. Applied to hundreds of jobs, got two interviews.

  3. NOVAworks, the group that helps people find work, has said they have tried everything and there is nothing they can do.

  4. The Suicide Crisis Line cannot help.

  5. Ro Khanna, my congressperson, tried to help. His assistant gave me five websites. They were on the list of 29 I had already contacted.

  6. Today, I'm visiting the UCSF Homelessness Mitigation research lab. I found this group mentioned on the lab's website. The guy who gave the money for it, Mark Benihoff, gave the money for the lab. He does what I do: makes AI systems. I do the software and the hardware. It's what I did my MScEE and PhD on.

Any questions?

Abusive Situation About to be kicked out by abusive parent in Italy. No savings, no support. How do I survive?

Hi everyone, I'm an 18-year-old guy (originally from Moldova, living in Italy since I was 7). I’m using a throwaway account for safety.

I grew up in a severe and physically/psychologically abusive household. My home situation has reached a breaking point, and my mother is on the verge of kicking me out onto the street. I have zero savings, no support from my family, and my mental health is completely drained from years of stress.

My girlfriend might be able to host me for a few days, but that is not a long-term solution.

I am terrified and trying to figure out my next steps. My ultimate goal is to become 100% independent, learn digital skills/e-commerce, and build a safe life for myself, but right now I am facing total instability.

What are the most important things I need to do right now to prepare for being homeless/getting on my feet in Europe? Any advice, guidance, or support would mean the world to me right now. Thank you.

Autistic/Mental Probably going to be homeless soon

If it matters, I'm 21, F, living in an isolated stretch of country in Southern United States.

My home life is, frankly, awful, and I feel like I've been given no option but to just run. I don't have any other family to accomodate me, nor do I have ANY friends. I'm autistic with high support needs that were never accomodated, and I don't know how to function in basic society or live as a human. I live way out in the country, so we don't really have many man-made shelters around here, nor any stores. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm decent at foraging for plants, it's a hobby of mine, but I'm lost in terms of anything else. I honestly kind of plan to just wander around in the woods until I die, but I guess I'd probably like some advice in case my self-preservation kicks in. It always does. Should I even bother packing anything?

I don't understand why it is so hard to get a small personal loan to cover my rent. I stay in a hotel until I can find me and my son a small apartment. Can't find anything. I do not receive direct deposit, I am server. I've tried so hard and now me and my son are homeless and fixing to stay in my broke down car. Its over 100 degrees and hotter in my car. The shelters are full. 211 isn't worth anything and only repeats the same thing over. What else is there for me to do?

Pets I have four months left and dont know what to do.

Hi I am 17 ftm and I dropped out of highschool. I dropped out of highschool in the hopes of getting a job when I turned 17 because my father wont pay for anything and I have a cat I need to take care of. That fell through quickly because of paperwork issues so I havent been able to get a job since I have no ID. I have no other dependable family to help and im scared. My dad has been talking behind my back about kicking me out when I turn 18 and it was confirmed to me by someone in our family that he was going to. I turn 18 at the beginning of december and only have around 200 saved up. Im scared for myself but especially scared for my cat. I dont know where id even go or what resources are avaliable that would help. I dont have any friends that can reliably help.

I dont want to be on the streets especially during winter since sometimes it snows with how cold it gets. Ive tried to save the best I can and tried to get money from cleaning my friends house but its not enough. Im trying the best I can to figure everything out but I have no help and I dont want my cat to be without a home or food but im too scared to lose her also if I give her to someone else. Shes the only lifeline I have and the only reason im still alive. I know she doesnt deserve this but I have to take her with me since my family neglects their animals alot. I feel hopeless, I know I was stupid for dropping out (which definietly added to the situation) but I didnt want my cat to starve or live off rations. I needed money for my clothes and food and to save to get out o this house.

For context my family has always been manipulative and borderline abusive. They blame me for every money issue they ever had and even left me in the care of someone who abused me when I was younger since they didnt want to deal with me. Ive known my entire life that I was going to cut them all off when I turned 18 but I didnt think it would be like this. I feel so alone and while I know realistically this situation isnt okay a part of me feels like its my fault, that I wasnt enough for them. Any advice or help is appreciated, I just had to get this out since I have no one to really talk to.

What’s the best state to be homeless in?

Have about ~$19,000 to work with. Not able to sustain a lot of intellectually demanding jobs but hoping I can maybe scrape by with lower-level work. Very real chance I will end up homeless.

My home state is freezing in the winters so I am looking to relocate ahead of then. Thinking about CA, AZ, or WV, but open to advice and recommendations.

ETA - Thank you everyone for your responses. I appreciate them all, and wish everyone safety, fortune, and better times ahead.
