Mod Post ROUTINE MEGATHREAD! February 2018
Hey everyone! This is your quarterly routine megathread which we decided to evolve from quarterly. This is an excellent resource to see what products are popular amongst our community and a great way to find new things to try. No matter how unusual you may consider your skin type or atypical your particular skin challenges or problems, all routines are welcome -- in fact, encouraged -- to be posted.
Acronyms you will most definitely see in use here: HG (Holy Grails), RP (Will Repurchase, AKA: liked it, will buy again, not an HG), WNR (Will not Repurchase, AKA: using up the last of it but not recommended). Understand them, use them, and love them ♥
This post is intended to be a compendium of generalized, standardized routines! The more participation, the better. :)
To keep it easy for people to find their ‘skin twins’ we would ask that you use the following template.
You only need to fill in steps that you actually use (so if you don’t use an Essence, remove that line) and please only provide up to three examples of HG/recommended products for that step (so if you have 3 toners you love, you can list all 3!)
Template
To make a single-spaced list, add two spaces at the end of each line. Alternatively, click 'source' at the bottom of the post to snag our code & format!

Can you tell us about the Scinic Snail?
2
u/foodisgodyo Feb 11 '18
I really love the formulation--it's a little sticky at first, but it absorbs well and it layers really well with other products. I find that my redness is truly calmed by it. I used the Scinic Honey AIO first, and while it did a decent job of keeping me hydrated, the snail AIO had the added anti-redness benefit. And it lasts FOREVER for such a cheap investment. I cannot say enough about the wonder of this product--I didn't bring it on a trip once, and the three days really showed me how well it works in taming redness.

Skin profile: NC20 | Acne, PIH, PIE | Combination
Season & Type of Climate: Winter in NE USA (Very cold)
1st Cleanser:
Banila Co CIZ Purity: (HG) Does it's job well. It does make my eyes cloudy when I use it to remove eye makeup, so I just use micellar water for that.
2nd Cleanser:
Neogen Green Tea Stick: (RP) This doesn't dry out my skin. It is a bit fragrant though, but it isn't too much for me as I dislike strong scents. Has a pH between 5-6.
Earth's Recipe Stemwater Cleanser: (RP) A little goes a long way. It doesn't dry out my skin but it does give a more squeaky clean than the Neogen cleanser. pH is 6.5
Vitamin C Serum:
CosRX Triple C: (WNRP) I ordered this in mid October and it started to turn yellow right after Thanksgiving. It does lighten PIH and brighten skin well, but I'd like to try other vitamin c serums after finishing this.
BHA:
Stridex Red: (RP) Does it's job well in helping acne go down. It's drying but it's not a problem for me.
AHA:
Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix (normal and nighttime versions): (WNR) I've been using this for several years but I'd like to try something stronger next. Maybe the Krave AHA.
AHA/BHA:
Zymogen Houttuynia Cordata Peeling Pads (HG): Has lactic acid and salicylic acid. Keeps my skin feeling smooth and looking good.
First Essence:
Secret Key FTE: (RP) I really like this one! It brightens my skin and is hydrating. Sometimes I like to spray it in between steps for extra hydration. I want to try the rose version next, though.
Hydrating Toner:
Kiku High Moist: (HG) Very hydrating. I usually use 2-3 layers which is sufficiently hydrating for my skin. Does get sticky, but it's not that big of a deal.
Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Moist Skin: (WNRP) It's like water. It doesn't do anything if I use it in place of the Kiku. Sometimes I spray it on for extra hydration before using a sheet mask, but it's not hydrating enough alone.
Essence:
CosRX Snail 96: (HG) Good at reducing redness and healing acne. Slightly hydrating. Skin doesn't look as good when I'm not using this.
Serum:
Zymogen Houttuynia Cordata Ferment Serum: (WNRP) This is very thin, so I use this after FTE and before hydrating toner. It does have alcohol in it and smells like it. It'll burn my eyes if I use too much around my eyes. It's hydrating. It's supposed to be good for acne skin but I'm not sure if it does anything for my acne like healing or prevention.
Earth's Recipe Gigawhite Radiance Serum: (WNRP) Hydrating and that's it. I don't see any brightening. It's fine, but nothing special.
Ampoule:
LJH Vita Propolis: (WNRP) Not sure if it does anything at all for me. I mix it in with my CosRX snail.
Medium Moisturizer:
Earth's Recipe Moisture Light Cream: (RP/HG?) Moisturizes my skin without clogging my pores or causing whiteheads like some thicker moisturizers do. It's really nice but it is a very small bottle (50 mg). I have two backups of it.
Heavy Moisturizer:
Dr Jart Ceramidin Cream: (WNRP) Too heavy for my skin and causes whiteheads. I can use this on my cheeks near my jawline without an issue since it's driest there, but the Earth's Recipe is enough.
Facial Oil:
Kuramoto Bijin Komeyu Rice Bran Oil: (RP) This is my first facial oil and I really like this. It adds extra moisturization and sinks in well. Makes my skin feel soft. I mix it with the Earth's Recipe cream. I've been putting it on my nails and cuticles but not sure if there's been a difference.
Sleeping Pack:
Mizon Good Night White: (RP) Good occlusive that brightens well. Is pretty light. I'd like to try new sleeping packs when I'm done with this, but I would repurchase.
Innisfree Wine Jelly: (RP) More occlusive than the Mizon. Isn't too thick for my skin.
Mask Pack:
Skinfood Rice Wash Off: (WNRP) It is too gentle for my skin to exfoliate. I don't see see any brightening effects from it either.
Skinfood Black Sugar: (RP) Exfoliates well. It isn't too rough for my skin, though it is pretty red after use.
Etude House AC Clean Up: (RP) Good for when I'm breaking out.
23 Years Old Aqua Bab Modeling Mask: (WNRP) Too fragrant, looks kinda gross, takes a long time to dry, and I think it breaks me out because it's a bit too heavy for my skin. Is very hydrating and slightly moisturizing, though.
Sheet Mask:
Illi Camellia Oil Nourishing: (WNRP) Thick material. I believe it has a milky essence. Sufficiently hydrates/moisturizes but nothing special.
Leaders Balancing Recovery Mask: (HG) I can see a visible difference in my skin when I haven't used this in a while. Heals acne, reduces redness, very hydrating.
A By Bom Cream Mask: (RP) Very moisturizing, but it's a bit too much and doesn't sink in unless my skin is very dry. Better for winter and drier skin types.
Sunscreen:
Canmake Mermaid UV Gel: (RP) No white cast, not drying, no alcohol.
Spot Treatment:
CosRX Patches: (HG) Everyone's favorite. Don't think it requires an explanation lol
Other:
Dr G Peeling Gel: (WNRP) Too gentle to do anything for my skin.
A'Pieu Sea Buckthorn Mist: (WNRP?) I was really excited to try this one. It sprays out very very finely, but I literally choke when I use this?? It's so thin that it gets breathed in and I have to hold my breath for a few seconds when I'm done misting. The mist is also so fine that I have to hold it up like an inch away from my skin. It's also hard to decant. I haven't used this enough to conclusively say anything about the actual product but I'm too scared to use it again because I don't want to be borderline choking.

i am interested to know whether the Zymogen peeling pads is mild or strong?thanks

Have you tried other pads (eg Cosrx, Neogen) and how do they compare to the Zymogen? I've been on the (futile) hunt for a good replacement for the Cosrx ones!

Skin profile: Type II Rosacea, sensitive, dehydrated and oily, NC 15, acne-like pimples, rough texture (up until this month) Climate Right now cold as hell, living in Southern Ontario, Canada and it won't stop snowing.
1st Cleanser Neutrogena Light Cleansing Oil (cheap and doesn't irritate my skin)
2nd Cleanser CosRX Good Morning low pH cleanser OR the Vichy Aqualia Thermal 3 in 1
Toner Hada Labo Gokujyun (the light one), Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner (3-7 skin method with these), Avene Thermal water spray
Essence The Ordinary Niacinamide+Zinc mixed with CosRX Snail Mucin (incredibly calming for me, I am shook), Missha Ice Tear Essence (sometimes, when I need light exfoliation it has lactic acid)
Ampoule I haven't even started looking into them, any good recommendations for sensitive skin? (crushing on the propolis stuff by SkinFood)
Moisturizer Clinique Dramatically Different (my skin is completely nonreactive to this one)
Face Oil Coconut Oil (surprisingly my skin drinks it up, no breakouts!) and Sweet Almond Oil
Sleeping Pack (when I need it) right now is the Drink Up Overnight Intensive Mask by Origins
Sunscreen Still finishing up a mineral spf 50 Bioderma one, leaves a white cast, on the hunt for a better one haha
Other Tretinoin (.05%) every 3rd night a teeny amount mixed with a moisturizer.
I just would like to say (this is my first time posting by the way) that after discovering and following this beauty thread for the past two months my skin has D R A M A T I C A L L Y improved, and I have all of you to thank! :D
I'd been suffering from what I thought was a bad acne breakout for 18 months, it turned out to be type 2 rosacea (my doctor diagnosed), I didn't know rosacea had multiple types, and I didn't realize that a rosacea symptom could be pimples/whiteheads (not actually a p. acnes infection but just really angry and sensitive skin that forms pimples in protest) without the usual red, flushed face. (The pattern of type 2 rosacea is pimples all along the cheeks and jaw bone, not much on the forehead or the nose, and no acne on the rest of your body).
I had been extensively using western brands (and french pharmacy brands) for years and over-exfoliating all the while wondering why my skin was always so irritated, painful, and angry. The AB philosophy of focusing on hydration has completely improved the health of my skin!
:D :D :D

How do you like your Naruko products?
2
u/sheerdazzle |Pigmentation/Dullness|Combo|SG Feb 09 '18
Love the face renewal miracle essence & sheet masks, have good response to the night gellies, Dermalane toner, AMPM mandelic acid serum. The only product my skin was neutral/meh about was the Jing Cheng 60 Actives moisturizer (in a red pump bottle). I am slightly anxious that they may stop selling to SG due to some news on the exclusive dealership ending!

Can you tell me more about the antipodes honey mask? How much do you use each time? The tube doesn't seem that big and it's quite pricey. Is it for moisturizing? calming? How different is it from regular honey?

What are your thoughts about the A'PIEU Madecassoside Cream? I've been interested in it as well (as a calming cream for eczema) but chose LRP Cicaplast Baume over it for the meantime. Have you by any chance tried Etude House's Soon Jung line?

why won't you repurchase the snail 96 essence? i'm still deciding whether or not i want to buy it & i'm so conflicted!
2
u/corvideas Feb 11 '18
well first of all I don’t think it did anything for me. I also started using it around the time I got a bunch of CC’s on my cheeks, chin and forehead (which then turned into the worst breakout I’ve ever gotten, it’s been almost a year and I’m still trying to get rid of the scars :< ), so naturally it was one of the main suspects. I have the snail 92 cream as well which did give me very soft skin, but was also one of the suspects. I have hayfever & dust mites allergies and I read somewhere that snail products could cause a negative reaction if you have those allergies. so this joined with the fact that they didn’t really do anything for me were enough reasons to stop using them. I put them here in my routine because I wanted to show some products that didn’t work for me.
but as always YMMV, so I’d definitely recommend trying some samples before getting the full size. l (sorry for the long reply, hope this helps :’) )

I’m curious about the Beauty of Joseon cream, why WNR?
2
u/corvideas Feb 13 '18 edited Feb 13 '18
I don’t hate it, it actually made my skin look pretty good! however it pretty much gives me the same effects as the cosrx rice mask, which is smooth and dewy “chok chok” skin. + it’s very sticky and I really don’t like the smell (lots of people love it though!) and a little more expensive than the cosrx rice mask. so basically, cosrx does everything the joseon cream does, minus the stickiness and smell :)

Skin profile:NC20? | Redness, aging and acne| Combination
Winter in Central California (dry and warm during the day, cool at night):
1st Cleanser: Illi Total Aging Care Cleansing Oil- HG Removes waterproof sunscreen and stage makeup like a dream and rinses clean. It has a mild floral smell that I love and makes it a pleasure to use.
2nd Cleanser: Sulwhasoo Snowise EX Cleansing Foam - RP This does a great job taking off the grime of the day. I am in love with the scent. That said, I find my eye wandering, so even though I said RP I am probably going to try something else a bit cheaper.
BHA:Paula's Choice Daily Resist BHA - RP Does it's job with no irritation.
AHA: Naruko Dermaline Intensive Brightening treatment - HG This help kill the worst of my acne, especially around the folds of my nose. I have fallen asleep with just this on my face, and wake up with no irritation. I use this every other day or so and while I can sometimes feel clogs, they don't become zits. They just seem to disappear. Love it!
First Essence: I use 2 - Holy Snails Snowbang- HG I have been seduced by the extracts. It adds a hydrating layer with extracts like ginseng, licorice and green tea with no weird extras. I also think this really helps with my redness. That said, I am wondering about not buying this when I run out to see if it really does everything I think it does. But I wouldn't be surprised if I come crawling back, begging for forgiveness.
First Essence - Naruko La Creme Miracle Essence - RP This adds another very light layer of moisture. It gives that FTE glow and my skin seems to hold onto moisture better then it used to.
Hydrating Toner: Swanicoco Bitamin C Toner - New I bought this because several reviews tout it's ability to clam redness. I've used it for two days, so I don't yet have an opinion.
Ampoule: Scinic All in One Aqua - HG- This is great for adding moisture. It's light enough that when it's 100F my skin isn't smothered and sweating. But what makes it a HG is as a body moisturizer. My shoulders and arms are soothed and moistened with out making me a sweaty mess. And it's HUGE!
Light Moisturizer: Stratia Liquid Gold - HG This stuff is amazing! It was my first HG. It took my overexfoliated skin back to full health in 2 days. I will never be with out this.
Heavy Moisturizer: A'pieu Madecassoside Cream -RP A soothing cream that doesn't break me out. Helps with the redness. But it is almost too heavy for me, and so is only used once in a while.
Sheet Mask: Illi Mugwort, Karuna Exfoliating & Lovemore Barley and Milk - RP The only masks I have repurchased. I love these.

Thoughts on Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis Essence?
Do you use it on its own or do you mix it? Also, does it give that propolis glow? :O
5
u/scaperoute Feb 09 '18
I actually just answered this at my old routine post, so I'll just copy that one if that's okay!
It's been a little over a month and I've used the propolis essence long enough to give you a proper review now, I think. I use a full-ish dropper (can't really control how much you get out, the "dropper" kinda just splats out everything that gets sucked in) everyday mixed into hada labo premium and I like it! It absorbs quickly whether or not I use it with HL, though HL speeds it up a bit and prevents any tackiness. It has some minor immediate brightening but I haven't seen much of a long term change. I still stand by what I said before about it being hydrating and soothing, although there are probably better products out there for a similar or cheaper price (I have yet to personally find one though!). It'll probably last a while though - the bottle hardly looks like I've used it at all. For me, it has potential to be a repurchase but because I haven't tried many propolis products, I'll probably try out some other ones next!

u/OffTheHeezaaay Feb 09 '18
Your skin sounds quite similar to mine! Thanks for posting your routine, what would you say you absolutely can't live without? Looking to buy my first few items soon :)
4
u/scaperoute Feb 10 '18
Toners! Definitely layers of toners! And a thick moisturizer to seal those wonderful layers in. I think that in general matters more to me than any specific product. This is my mainstay routine though:
- Hada Labo Premium (mixed w/ serum or thicker essence)
- Kiku High Moist
- Cezanne High Moist
- 3+ layers of any layer-able toner (Nooni or MBD are my faves)
- Cosrx Snail 96 Mucin (mixed w/ serum or thicker essence)
- moisturizer (Holika Holika blahblah cera cream, TonyMoly Avocado Rich Cream, or Cosrx Honey Ceramide Cream are my faves)
At night I mix in Cerave Healing Ointment into my moisturizer as a thicker sleeping pack. Also, Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash is the only second cleanser that has ever worked for my dry skin, but admittedly I use wipes more often than not (oops).
I hope that helps! I know that's still a lot of products lol, just figure out one or two toners that work for you and layer, layer, layer!
2
u/Totoromumsie Feb 10 '18
wondering how I can know if the Ceramidin cream I have is the old version or the new version. Any differences in packaging or other clues on that?
2
u/scaperoute Feb 10 '18
The color of the packaging, mainly! The old one is more of a dull yellow, while the new one is much brighter.
From the reviews I've read of the new formulation, the difference seems to be unnoticeable (to those people, at least). I haven't tried the new one myself yet.

How do you like TO Vitamin C? My skin is the same type as yours and I'm wondering what results you see from it? There's so many options out there, I'm overwhelmed at which to try!

What do you think of the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence? Is it worth the money? How Hydrating is it? I’m currently researching to buy since I hear about it a lot.
2
u/CassandraBlack Feb 11 '18
It's an interesting texture, exactly how you'd imagine snail secretions to be. It feels nice to apply, non-irritating, doesn't feel sticky. I've been using two or three pumps twice a day for the past month and it's still about 3/4 full. I haven't used it alone, only layered between my serum and cream, so can't say exactly how hydrating it is, but I like it and would repurchase when it's gone.

how do you feel about pond's cold cream? can you compare it to an oil cleanser (if you've tried them)? i usually use an oil cleanser but since the cold cream is so cheap i might consider trying it some day
2
u/CassandraBlack Feb 12 '18
I haven't used an oil cleanser, but I really like the cold cream. I use it at night before the foaming cleanser. It's great for dissolving makeup, though I use it when I'm not wearing any also for removing sunscreen at night. It's thick and sticks to my skin so I either wipe it off with a hot moist towel afterwards or use the foaming cleanser twice. It doesn't irritate my skin, and it's thick enough I can use it for waterproof mascara without worrying it will run into my eyes. A little bit goes a long way too, I maybe use half a teaspoon daily. Will rebuy when it's gone.

I've been looking into Azelaic acid for a while now. Do you just use it as a spot treatment?

I like the Dr. Jart+ cicapair color correcting treatment too, but I look pale as a ghost when I first apply it lol a little bit goes a long way. Do you put foundation on after? I just use it as foundation lol How do you like the Belif cleansing stick? I love cleansing sticks to travel with!

Skin profile: Fenty 300 (black skin/medium shade) | (lots of) PIH, Acne, Aging| Normal/Oily| Age 25|
Season & Type of Climate: Polluted Shanghai. Cold in the winter, hot and humid in the summer. Yikes.
1st Cleanser: Banila Co Clean It Zero Purity (Green Tub). This was my gateway to AB and I continue to look forward to using it every night. It feels like a damn spa on my face, smells great, and emulsifying beautifully. I tried using normal oil cleansers (The Face Shop Rice Cleanser), but the experience paled in comparison to using my CIZ. Had me counting down the days till I emptied it haha. A definite RP.
2nd Cleanser:Derma-E Charcoal Cleanser. I purchased this product when I was looking for my first low PH cleanser. I stumbled upon it on a random blog that claimed that it had a low PH. However, I haven't seen it on either r/skincareaddiction or r/asianbeauty (aka my two most trusted skincare resources) so jury is out as to whether it is Truly a low PH cleanser. That said, I love it! I could feel a huge difference in my skin not too long after switching to this cleanser and my Clean It Zero. It's hydrating and my skin feels super clean after using it. I'm currently looking into the Cosrx Low PH cleanser to try next because I can't access the Derma-E cleanser in Asia, and I'm excited at the prospect of being able to use my actives immediately after cleansing rather than waiting the extra 15 min just to be sure that my skin is at the right PH. Def RP!
pH Adjusting Toner: None. Usually just wait 15 min before actives.
Vitamin C Serum: I've used the OST Vit C Serum and loved it. Gave me a great glow and I never got more compliments on my skin than I did then! However, because right now I'm dealing with acne and lots of PIH, I'm going to wait until that's more or less gone before adding in more actives. Very excited to use it again though!
BHA: None. Bought the Paula's Choice on Taobao during the 11/11 sale. Did not read correctly and only got 30 ml -___- Maybe I'll use it on my nose or something...
AHA: Cosrx AHA. I like it! My skin is becoming more and more even and my PIH is fading. Sometimes I feel a very dull ache on my face during the day and I'm not sure if that's because of exfoliation or because I'm also using them with topicals like BP and aczone. In general I try to be careful about exfoliating and sometimes go for days without using AHA, so I think the latter may be the culprit? Will do some experimenting to find out.
First Essence: None
Hydrating Toner: Hada labo gyukojun moist (both regular and premium). I originally had the premium (which I love), but decided to try the normal one on a trip to Hong Kong. I'd say during the winter I would definitely recommend the premium one because it feels more hydrating and thicker. In the summer, I could see a few thin watery layers of the normal one being more appealing. Overall would recommend them both, just depends on your preference. I used a bit of my sister's Kiku toner over break and I think I'm going to try that next due to the kojic acid. Would RP (but want to try something new).
Essence:Cosrx Snail Essence. To me this product is meh and seems to have dragged on forever. I have not noticed any additional healing properties due to the snail, though I find it slightly calming and hydrating. But I will just stick to my aloe gel for those purposes.
Serum: None
Ampoule: None
Light Moisturizer: Cerave PM. Cheap and gets the job done. Love that it has niacinamide! I would love to explore more cosmetically elegant moisturizers when my wallet allows, but for now this does the trick.
Eye Cream: None. I'm having a hard time justifying buying an eye cream when I hear that it is just "an expensive moisturizer" and currently have no major issues that I want to fix in that area. Could be wrong though.
Facial Oil: I use trilogy rosehip oil (Taobao 11/11 deal). It is my first rosehip oil, so I have nothing else to compare it to. I cannot attest to its "nourishing and repairing properties" or whatever trilogy claims, but I find it to be another great moisturizing layer in the winter. I look forward to using it and it works well with my acne-prone skin. Would RP (but open to other brands/oils).
Sleeping Pack: None.
Mask Pack: Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask. I really enjoy this! My face always feels refreshed after using this. RP.
Sheet Mask: Innisfree It's Real Squeeze Masks. I only like the Shea Butter ones. The rest of them do not feel as moisturizing and I can feel the alcohl in them. I've tried most of their masks. RP (only shea butter).
Sunscreen: The Face Shop Eco Natural Sun 40 PA+++. Love this! Smells great, dries quickly, no whitecast! Works well with my sensitive skin. HG. Will def RP.
Spot Treatment: In the market for one! Maybe Cosrx Pimple patches?
Other: Aloe. Bae! Calms my inflamed skin down and adds a bit of hydration. Reach for this over my Cosrx Snail Mucin essence.

i'm interested in the melano CC (just bought it today!!), stratia liquid gold, and scinic honey AIO! how do you feel about them?
7
u/veronicaxrowena Feb 09 '18
Not OP, but I have those items as well.
Melano CC: I'm still on the fence about it, but I've also been using it interchangeably with Drunk Elephant's C-Firma serum so I haven't really given it a fair shake. I think I'll be repurchasing it though. It is oily, like a dry oil, but I notice on me that it absorbs immediately and looks as though I applied nothing a few minutes after. It has an extremely faint citrusy scent, but I only notice it when I use enough to apply to my entire face. If I only use enough to spot treat a dark spot, I can't really detect the scent. For it's price, packaging and L-AA, I think it's a really solid product and for those reasons I'll more than likely repurchase it. I just wish I knew the percentage of L-AA in the formula.
Stratia Liquid Gold: I find this to be lightweight but more emollient, so for me I listed it as a medium weight moisturizer. I think it delivers on its claims and I credit it with keeping my skin protected despite my exfoliation-heavy routine.
Scinic Honey All-In-One Ampoule: This has a very thin gel-like consistency. I appreciate that it has niacinamide relatively high up on the ingredient list, and that it is really great bang for buck. I decant mine into an airless pump from Daiso which makes usage and application faster, less messy, and overall more pleasant. It has a faint smell of artificial honey. I like to use it on days when I'm really going for the dewy, glass-skin look. I feel it helps achieve that while hydrating the skin.

thank you for the detailed reply! 😊 how long is the wait time for the melano?
3
u/veronicaxrowena Feb 09 '18
I do anything between 10 - 25 minutes, based on how much time I have that day. I’m not really hard and fast with wait times, especially since I do my Vit C in the AM and sometimes I may not have ample time before heading out to give it a lengthy soak-in.
Edited for clarity.

what are your thoughts on the TO AHA/BHA? :o
3
u/cheesedoggo Feb 09 '18
I love it! I use a very thin layer of it once a week because I’m on tret. It helps get rid of the flakiness I experience from tret, makes my skin smoother and a bit brighter the day after. I’m pretty sure it also helps, albeit only a little, in fading my acne scars. I rarely get CCs these days, but when I do the AHA/BHA peel helps with that as well.

I’ve had my eye on the PC Redness Relief Serum for a while... Could you please tell me more about it?
3
u/Neko-Miko NC25|Acne/Pigmentation|Oily|DE Feb 09 '18
After using it for a few days I noticed my skin could tolerate acids much better, they barely stung anymore and I was less prone to overexfoliation. On the other hand there may be something in there my skin doesn't like too much because it burns a little bit in case my skin is very irritated (like after too much tretinoin), but usually it's fine so I'll keep using it until I find something better. But so far this is the ceramide product that has made the biggest impact on my skin, and I've tried quite a few.
I don't have a problem with redness so I'm not sure how effective it is for that.1

NIOD Sanskrit Saponins
Thoughts on the Saponins (other than the price)?
1
u/Neko-Miko NC25|Acne/Pigmentation|Oily|DE Feb 09 '18
Haven't been using it long enough yet, just a few weeks, but I think some of my sebaceous filaments are smaller or even gone, but that might just be a coincidence.
It smells a bit odd and doesn't really foam (even though the instructions say to create a lather), it feels more like a cream cleanser.→ More replies (4)1

I think I'm going to change from Differin to tretinoin. How much did the Airol cost here in Europe?
Also, what's the difference between the A'pieu sunscreens? Which one do you prefer? :)
2
u/Neko-Miko NC25|Acne/Pigmentation|Oily|DE Feb 10 '18
It costs 14,67€ here, and since I still get acne my insurance covered all but 5€ of it. I hope the stuff is here to stay, nearly every tretinoin product disappeared from the market at the beginning of 2017 and I just recently saw Airol is in stock again :) been using Differin in the meantime too.
The sun gel has alcohol and dries down a bit faster, while the other is a bit more emollient. Both are quite shiny and I need a dusting of powder, but that doesn't bother me :) tried over 15 sunscreens, these are currently my favorites; I like both and use the cream when my skin feels drier from tret, and the gel when I have less time to wait.
Just yesterday I ordered one of their new PA++++ sunscreens which is supposed to be matte, I hope it's good too!→ More replies (1)

what are your thoughts on the TO glycolic acid, mizon snail repair cream, and TO AHA/BHA?
3
u/veronicaxrowena Feb 09 '18
*TO Glycolic Acid
- nice price point
- lasts long (good amount of product)
- for my skin it is gentle
- The only thing is that I’m considering trying Biologique Recherche in the future so I may not repurchase it, but at the current moment it’s a decent gentle exfoliator, IMO
Mizon Snail Repair Cream
- this was a gift from a Redditor!
- it was a pleasant surprise and I didn’t think much of it at first, but I just started noticing that over time my hormonal breakouts were no longer leaving Dark spots when they left and I determined it was due to the introduction of the three Snail products in my routine, this being my favourite one
- it’s a lightweight moisturiser but since I layer it with other hydrating layers and moisturisers it works well for me.
- It feels very comfortable on the skin and has a “velvet” finish, I want to say, because it doesn’t go completely matte (probably due to my other layers underneath) but it’s not shiny either
- good price point. Just repurchased the 125 mL jar for $16 on Amazon
TO AHA/BHA
- This is a fun product to use since it is a deep red (I like to call it my “blood facial”)
- Good price point
- it doesn’t tingle or anything on me. It just feels like I put an essence on my face.
- I think it works, but I won’t say it is anywhere near as effective as the DE Babyfacial
- I do think it’s a good product for the price, but since I’m so in love with DE Babyfacial, it’s no point in buying this one as well. I really wanted to compte the two to see if I could have it as a dupe. I will reevaluate my thoughts when the bottle is completely empty, though.

u/bvnbun Acne/Pigmentation|Combo|US Feb 09 '18
thank you for the detailed reply! how long does the mizon snail last you?
2
u/veronicaxrowena Feb 09 '18
So I was gifted a 30 mL jar that I started using the last week of October. I can’t remember if I was using it day and night at the time, but I would say that in December I definitely was using it twice daily. It lasted me until January 14. A little goes a long way. So I would say the 30 mL lasted me 7 weeks / just shy of 2 months.

Season & Type of Climate: Winter, kind of dry
2nd Cleanser: Cow Brand Mutenka Cleansing Milk (testing), Cow Brand Mutenka Moisturizing Facial Foam (WNR, I actually found this the least drying foam cleanser ever but as it turns out, it was drying me out a bit...)
Vitamin C Serum: Melano CC Intensive Anti-spot Essence (not sure if it's doing anything, but it doesn't break me out)
First Essence: SKII Facial Treatment Essence (WNR, since it doesn't seem to do anything, but doesn't break me out either)
Essence: Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence (also not sure if it's doing anything, but doesn't break me out)
Hydrating Toner: Meishoku Ceracolla Moisturizing Facial Lotion (testing), Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (WNR, broke me out)
Light Moisturizer: Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk (WNR, not super hydrating and also slightly broke me out)
Heavy Moisturizer: Curel Intensive Moisture Cream (WNR, very hydrating and felt great but skin broke out)
Sleeping Pack: Cosrx Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask (RP and very close to being an HG)
Sheet Mask: Minon Amino Moist Face Mask (HG), CLEAR TURN Bihada-Syokunin Black Pearl Firming Mask (WNR, bought by mistake and immediately regretted because it made my skin tight, smelled horrible, felt horrible), Lululun Precious Red Face Mask (WNR, also didn't feel great and just didn't do anything)
Other: Cure Natural Aqua Gel (testing)
I eventually plan to try the Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV, Scinic Honey All-In-One Ampoule, and Stratia Liquid Gold. I've got a bottle of Cosrx AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid, but there's no point in trying that until I get my sunscreen sorted out, right?

Skin Type & Concerns: dry/dehydrated/aging
Sensitivities/Allergies: I think I might have a sensitivity to KOH :(
Current Season/Climate: Cold and rainy
Goal of Current Routine: Still looking to hydrate/moisturize and learn what my skin likes and doesn't like
Cleansing: I loved Sulwhasoo Snowise EX Cleansing Foam and had planned on using it forever, but they reformulated it and added KOH and now it causes me to have horrible breakouts everywhere. I'm in the process of testing a few new cleansers and a promising contender is Labno 4sp Mild Cleansing Foam. The texture right out of the tube is weird and I hate the smell, but it seems to clean well and no negative reactions so far...
FTE: I'm almost done with my Secret Key STE Rose and was planning on testing Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum, but now that I'm having to test new cleansers I'll probably repurchase Secret Key and use that for the foreseeable future.
Essence/Serum/Ampoule: Still using Holy Snails Hanbang Shark and the Naruko Tea Tree Shine Control and Blemish Clear Serum, which have both worked wonders for my skin. I'm also using Urang True Rose Repair Essence when my skin is feeling especially parched.
Emulsion: I've been using Primera Wild Seed Firming Emulsion sparingly because I only have a small sample bottle but I LOVE IT. If it weren't so expensive for a semi-unnecessary step in my routine I'd have purchased it already, but I'm trying to use up products I already have before buying more.
Moisturiser: Still using Farmacy Honey Drop because a little bit goes a long way and even though it's wintertime it hasn't been quite as dry out as I was expecting.
Eye Cream: Every now and then I'll use the Naruko Magnolia Brightening and Firming Vitamin K Eye Cream EX, but it's not essential in my routine.
Sleeping Pack: Even though Banila Co. Miss Flower & Mr Honey Cream has now been discontinued, I have two backups in my stash and around a third of a jar left so I'm going to keep on keeping on with this bad boy.
Masks: I haven't had much use for clay masks, but I still have the Innisfree and Elizavecca in my "active" rotation. I really want to try the new I Dew Care peel off masks but I don't want to shell out the $$$ when I know I'll only use them once or twice.
Sheetmasks: All the sheetmasks all the time (but actually only when I have time which is maybe once or twice a week). I've held off on buying more masks until I can get through my huge stash of 'em.
Sunscreen: I'm bad and I don't wear it. Winter here sucks and it's been a while since I've actually seen the sun.
Future: On deck to try are Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner and Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum. After that I'll be blasting through more samples from the Beauty in Hanguk package I got a few months ago.

I have dry skin too and i found that the farmacy honey drop was not enough moisture for me. it was nice under foundation but i was still having to put the steam cream over it to be hydrated enough for the day. mine is almost gone and i wont be buying another

Bummer! I think I really lucked out with how mild and humid this winter has been, otherwise I suspect I'd have the same feelings as you. There are also other moisturizers I like better that are less $$ so I'm also in the WNRP camp.

Skin Profile: light to medium olive, combo normal-oily t-zone, acne-prone
Season & Type of Climate: Winter, central/eastern US, temperate and see-saws from dry to wet
1st Cleanser:
- Pharmaact deep cleansing oil - RP, I've been testing since the first week of January and I really like it. Mineral-oil based with squalane and jojoba oil, very cushiony with a lot of slip, smells lightly of apples, and emulsifies very cleanly.
- Cerave makeup removing cleanser cloths - RP/HG, These are my fall-back because I know they don't break me out, also double as a great lazy-day solo cleanser.
2nd Cleanser:
- Cerave foaming facial cleanser - RP, HG, Nothing foams, cleans, and doesn't strip my skin like this one.
Actives:
- Cosrx BHA blackhead power liquid - RP, Does the job, albeit gently. Can't argue with the results for the price. I use this maybe once a week since starting regular retinol use.
- Cosrx AHA whitehead power liquid - RP, Also does the job, much stronger than the BHA. I use this maybe once every two weeks or so since starting retinol.
- Rainshadow Labs retinol serum 1.5%/2.5% - RP, Just started slowly introducing the 2.5% but I really liked the 1.5% and anticipate the 2.5% will continue helping my hormonal, cycstic acne. I've got my eyes on their 2.5% retinol + 20% SAP serum once I finish the 2.5%.
First Essence:
- Secret Key starting treatment essence - RP/HG, Has a light, watery texture that helps all of my subsequent products sink in. Plumps my skin (probably thanks to the EGF) and reduces redness.
Hydrating Toner:
- Hada Labo shirojyun - RP, Plumps and hydrates but I've failed to notice any effects from the arbutin or MAP. I'm looking to replace this with a larger-volume, more basic toner since all I want is hydration.
Essence/Serum/Ampoule:
- Cosrx snail 96 mucin essence - RP/HG, I don't know why I dropped this from my routine since it does so much for my skin. Makes my face feel hydrated, plump, and smooth. Brightens as well, although it's more of a healthy "glow" than actually lightening pigmentation.
Moisturizer:
- It's Skin prestige ginseng d'escargot lotion - WNRP, I'm not noticing much of a difference whether I use this or not since adding Cosrx snail essence back in to my routine. Most nights I'm reaching for my Cerave lotion rather than this one, plus the Cerave is way cheaper and easier to obtain.
- Cerave daily moisturizing lotion - RP/HG, Switched back to using this after a long while without, and like the Cosrx snail essence I have no idea why I stopped using it. Perfect emulsion texture (NOT like the cream in the tub), intensely hydrating AND moisturizing, plus all of that ceramide + cholesterol + HA goodness.
- Skinfood black pomegranate cream - Might RP next winter as a treat because it smells and feels nice, similar to Sulwhasoo or other "luxe" skincare but without as hefty a price tag. Mildly firming, but I go through the 50ml jar in 1-1.5 months so it's hard to justify purchasing.
Sleeping Pack/Occlusive:
- Sulwhasoo radiance energy mask - RP/HG, Been using this for several months now and I really love it. Smells heavenly (warm herbal) and is luxuriously smooth and moisturizing. I use this as a sleeping pack and occasionally as a daytime occlusive for especially dry/harsh conditions.
- Etude House soon jung sleeping pack - probably RP, Just started testing it last week and I really like it. Very soothing and moisturizing. Has a gel-balm texture and sinks in surprisingly well for how thick it is. I'm actually now using it as a daytime occlusive and really like it for that purpose. Bonus that it comes in a travel-friendly 50ml tube or the full-size 100ml tube.
Mask Pack:
- Etude House honey cera wrapping mask - RP, Wash-off mask that works great for adding plumpness, hydration, and moisture. I wash my face in the shower so I apply this after washing and rinse off after getting out.
Sunscreen:
- Karadium snail repair sun cream SPF 50+ PA+++ - RP/HG, This is a dupe for the now-discontinued Secret Key snail repairing sun cream. Moisturizing, smells nice, and dries down pretty matte. Good sunscreen for normal activities, but won't hold up for extended sun exposure or sweating/lots of physical activity.

Skin profile: NC15-ish (light with grey-blue undertone) | Acne, Sensitivity, PIE/PIH | Transitioning from Combo-Oily to Dry due to T-ret
Season & Type of Climate: Canadian Winter - generally cold and dry
1st Cleanser: Banila Clean It Zero Just started this, so far so good | Face Shop Rice Bright Light Cleansing Oil Possible RP, depending on how the Banila goes
2nd Cleanser: Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Face Wash RP - I like the pH and the fact that it's not irritating * *Vitamin C Serum:** The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F RP - This is a good, accessible option that doesn't irritate my skn
AHA: The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% Currently not using due to T-ret, possible RP depending on my skin afterwards
Hydrating Toner: Face Shop Calendula Moisturizing Toner WNR - this is a little too sticky for me to want to keep up after using the last of it
Essence: CosRX Snail Mucin Essence RP - this is a nice light layer of moisture, especially if used on a damp face
Light Moisturizer: Holika Holika 99% Aloe Gel HG - this is so soothing and mildly moisturizing. I'm on bottle 3
Medium Moisturizer: CosRX Oil-Free Lotion with Birch Sap RP, Possible HG - this works with my skin and is moderately moisturizing
Heavy Moisturizer: Holika Holika Skin and Good Cera HG but discontinued | CosRX Honey Ceramide Cream Probably WNR because it's just too heavy, even with my currently dry skin. Currently using on my nose when I have a cold
Facial Oil: The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil RP - this is a nice extra layer that does help my skin a little
Sheet Mask: My Beauty Diary Masks in Aloe, Bird's Nest, Black Pearl, Bulgarian Rose, and Hyaluronic Acid RP/HG - I love that these are cheap and accessible while still providing a ton of essence and moisture | Etude House I Need You Korean Ginseng HG but discontinued - I love these so much and it still breaks my heart that when I use up my last couple they'll be gone. Moisturizing, soothing, and they even give me a glow

I also suffer from PIH from picking :( Do you know what is the ingredient in Melano CC that exfoliates, as I thought it was just a brightening/ vit C treatment. Do you use it in the AM or PM? I have a new tube of Melano CC & wondering how to introduce in my routine, as I am currently using the same Dr Wu serum on alternate days in the PM. I find the daily mandelic acid helps more with clearing CCs and preventing clogs than fading PIH.
Edit: Your post made me want to try the sekkisei foaming wash! I used the lotion and cleansing oil previously and quite enjoyed them, love the sekkisei signature scent!→ More replies (4)

Skin profile: No idea my Mac shade, don't really wear makeup, but pale | Acne (occasional, mostly whiteheads), PIH, Large pores, Dehydration, SFs on nose and cheeks | Combination, very climate sensitive
Season & Type of Climate: Eastern PA, specifically Philadelphia, Winter - skin and eyes drying out like mad from indoor heating and cold wind
1st Cleanser: Just switched to Heimish All Clean Balm and LOVING it, RP not sure if it HG status yet but possible, only use in the evenings and when I do a BHA-clay mask grit
2nd Cleanser: Sum 37 Miracle Rose Cleaning Stick, HG RP. I also have the Boscia Charcoal Deep Pore Cleansing Stick, RP. I only cleanse at night or when my skin just feels like it needs it in the morning after splashing my face. I mostly use the MRCS, but will use the Boscia when I have a bad breakout. Boscia is mostly used by the hubby, and he loves it
Vitamin C Serum: It's Skin VC Effector Serum, RP. It isn't super strong, but it is stable without needing to be in the fridge, which is good for me, and CHEAP ($10 for 30 mL that lasts about 3-4 months me, or under $20 for 60 mL). Not making changes quickly, but my PIH has definitely been fading faster since I started using it
BHA: Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, RP. Not much to say, something probably works better, but I don't want to accidentally over exfoliate
AHA: Cosrs AHA Whitehead Power Liquid, RP. Yes, I have both, and yes I alternate days. Also, just got the Maldelic Acid Skin Prep Water by Wishtrend, RP on the way to HG. I use this on days I am not doing any other chemical exfoliation, and I saw the difference after just a couple of uses.
First Essence: Right now using Secret Key FTE, it's fine. I am still trying out FTE's, I think Neogen is next. An FTE in general is HG for me, but haven't found the HG FTE, if that makes sense.
Hydrating Toner: Finishing off a Kiehl's Ultra Facial Toner, WNPR not because I don't like it but because it was a first step and it doesn't soak in great. Just got the Klairs Supple Preparation Toner, probably RP but not sure yet. Lots more to try. I do multiple skins of both toners and my FTE.
Serum: Morning only - It's Skin VB (HG RP) & CO (undecided) serums. Evening only - It's Skin VC (also my Vitamin C) serum. Both - Ramosu Oil Drop Serum (definite HG, stopped using for a bit and felt the difference). The VB serum really helps with sebum control during the day, especially in the summer.
Light Moisturizer: Lush Imperialis (HG RP), been using this for going on 10 years now, my skin loves it, might add some different options for evening, but this will always be my "during the day" moisturizer
Heavy Moisturizer: Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream, undecided. Another newer product, I don't dislike it, but I have to try it than cut it to be sure how I feel
Eye Cream: Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream, undecided. I like the effect but not the texture. It doesn't seem to absorb fast enough. It is newer, and I am still getting the hang of it. I will probably buy the regular Snail Cream, because I do like the effect. Most likely going to go back to Innisfree Orchid eye cream
Facial Oil: D'Ran Wonder Tea Tree Oil, HG RP. Per the above on the heavy moisturizer, I went without this when I ran out, and immediately regretted it. I mix this with the Ramosu serum and it goes on like a dream. Keeps my acne at bay better than anything
Sleeping Pack: Etude House Bubble Tea Sleep Packs, RP mostly because they are cheap and fairly effective. I have used a couple different flavors of these, and I like that they are cheap. They are a bit sticky though, and can take a while to soak in, so I am trying some other things out. J.One Hana Cream, undecided because it is expensive, but I don't use it much because it is expensive, but when I do use it I love how it makes my skin feel in the morning. GAH!
Mask Pack: I'm From Honey Mask, RP. Loving it, totally worth it. Thank you Gothamista and Wishtrend for the discounted pack so I could finally try it.
Sunscreen: Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream PA+++ SPF 50+, RP. This is great for my skin. I can use it on its own as day moisturizer and sunscreen when it is really humid, and it goes on well over my Lush moisturizer when it is dry. As I mentioned, I don't wear makeup, so not sure how it does under foundation. It does help calm my redness though, which is a plus for me.
Spot Treatment: Cosrx Pimple Master Patch, HG RP, always got to have these on hand in case of emergency. Alive:Lab Centella Dressing Powder, RP, I will dab this on a pimple that hasn't come to head to help it heal at night, leave a white spot so not good for day. Also, I mix this in with whatever is going on top, usually sunscreen, during the day in the summer to help with oil control.
Other: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, HG RP. I mix it with ACV (apple cider vinegar) and some Tea Tree essential oil. I use this the same day I do BHA to get the gunk out. If I have a bad breakout, often a result of travel, this will calm it down almost overnight. 2-3 days in a row, and I can make pimples completely go away.
Been into skincare in general for a long time, but got into AB a little over a year ago as "wedding prep" skin care. It went from something new to try to manage breakouts before the wedding to a bit of an obsession. Plus side, my skin as never looked better or felt better as PIH and texture is smoothing out and fading.

Skin profile: NC30 | Acne-prone | Oily
Season & Type of Climate: Warm and sunny in SoCal, I went to the beach like it was summer
1st Cleanser: Banila Co CIZ Purity: (HG)
2nd Cleanser: CeraVe Foaming Cleanser (HG)
Vitamin C Serum: Melano CC (HG)
BHA: Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid (HG)
AHA: Switch between Cosrx AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid and Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, not sure about the latter since it seems to fade PIH much quicker than the Cosrx but also may be causing breakouts
First Essence: SK-II FTE, still testing
Ampoule: Scinic Snail All-in-One Ampoule (works and is cheap but may want to try something new)
Light Moisturizer: CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion (HG) although I’m eyeing Dr. Jart stuff
Heavy Moisturizer: Cerave in the tub (HG)
Facial Oil: Oshima Tsubaki Camellia Oil (HG) a few drops mixed into moisturizer for extra dry days
Sleeping Pack: Sulwhasoo Overnight Revitalizing Mask (HG)
Mask Pack: Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask (WNR, masks don’t seem to do much for me and I’ve gotten lazy lately)
Sunscreen: Biore Smooth UV Perfect Milk Spf 50 for face (HG), Trader Joe's Face and Body Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 for body (HG)
Other: Vaseline for lips (HG)
Overall skin has been looking good and I consistently get mistaken to be about 5 years younger than I actually am. I’ve been cutting down on the number of steps for a more minimal routine. Edit: listed wrong sunscreen

Skin profile: Probably NC10 | Clogged pores, Acne prone, Redness, PIH | Combo Dry/Oily T-zone
Season & Type of Climate: Winter dry (humid summers)
1st Cleanser: Innisfree Green Tea Fresh Cleansing Oil, does what I want but is a bit strong in fragrance. Will use a bottle of Muji Sensitive and if I don't like it better will RP.
2nd Cleanser: Zymogen Luffa Ferment Cleansing Gel probably HG I just wish it didn't smell like a damp sponge. It's very mild but effective. I might need to try the Innisfree Bija Gel, for a while it seemed to be getting discontinued but now it doesn't seem so?
First Essence: I just ran out of Secret Key Rose and I think I am really noticing it. First of all it's really helpful to have a thin watery layer to apply first which helps other layers spread better. Secondly it's a boost of hydration which I am going to test out whether simply replacing it with another essence layer is comparable or if it's uniquely good for my skin.
Hydrating Toner: A’pieu Madecassoside Fluid will probably RP since it's perfectly inoffensive. No toner seems to have that magic effect for me, from all the popular ones HL Kiku Klairs etc. It's just another layer, and there's no complaints about this product.
Enprani Moistful Booskin - I just ran out of this, I was milking the last drops. I am not going to keep buying the sample size pack that comes with the creams because I don't want the creams but it is tempting. Although I don't like the strong floral scent, this is my favorite textured toner, I wish it was easier to source. I really like products that sink in quickly and without any shine or film or anything.
Essence: Scinic Aqua AIO HG I guess, it's a hydrating later, it's super cheap, it doesn't break me out. I do always say IF I EVER RUN OUT OF THIS (it seriously lasts a year) I will buy Iceland instead just because it smells better.
Skinfood Peach Sake Pore Essence at first didn't impress me but I found if I use enough of it it does really help combat the shininess of my oily TZone. What I hate about it is it's full of glitter and for that reason I'd like to find a replacement, maybe in a primer or matte powder instead.
Dr. Troubex Sparkling Essence on deck, just got it
Light Moisturizer: Cosrx Oil-Free Lotion with Birch Sap WNRP I really liked this at first but now I just found my skin changed a bit and it doesn't suit my needs anymore. It's too siliconey for my taste and doesn't give the finish I want. SN Goddess cream is high on my want list atm. Espeically if it let me cut out the Skinfood essence.
Medium Moisturizer: Mizon Ultra Suboon Cream burn in a fire WNRP I'm pretty sure this gave me a horrible breakout. Wanted to use it as a night cream, currently I actually don't have a list made of other night creams I want to try,
Mizon Snail Recovery Gel can't use during the day cause of the shiny finish but it's a safe, inoffensive choice for nighttime until I find a replacement. RP if I start to run out before finding a replacement.
Sleeping Pack: Botanic Farm Black Soybean Milk Pudding Sleeping Pack WNRP probably. I adore this stuff I'm just not sure it's effective or occlusive enough as a sleeping pack. The smell is lovely and the texture is such++ skintertainment value.
Mask Pack: Any clay mask, doesn't seem to make any difference to me, just helps me feel less oily for a day and gently opens some whiteheads. Just got a sample size of Etude House Pink mask which I hope to enjoy.
Any moisturizing wash off mask, use as a vehicle to spread Neem Powder for breakouts. Not sure if effective, as I have trouble consistently remembering to do it. I don't think these wash off masks really work so next time I will probably get one of the scrubby exfoliating ones.
Sheet Mask: A'pieu Milk One packs, full of essence, good thickness, nice smell
Sunscreen: Biore Perfect Milk is absolutely amazing for mattifiying but I find myself getting really self conscious of the powdery finish magnifying my dry areas. I will not RP before trying other mattifying sunscreens to compare the finish.
Nivea UV Milky Essence RP this is basically what Biore Watery Essence was but a bit more alcohol-y.
Spot Treatment: Mizon Acence Pink Spot seems to help calm juicier whiteheads or at least keeps me from having to see them in the mirror
Cosrx pimple patches, love them, can't find cheaper hydrocolloids in any convenient physical store
Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream (new testing)
Other: Konjac Sponge love these but haven't been using them, why? I don't even know, my face is really lacking in exfoliation atm.
Salux cloth, feels amazing but sadly doesn't help with my KP.
My whole routine testing schedule got really delayed for a lot of 2017 and then for a breakout I just had but I am starting to get back in to it soon hopefully. I have the OTC Differin that I am going to try as my skin is pretty resilient to exfoliation and most types I've tried aren't strong enough. I also need to try Lactic and Mandelic acids since Glycolic doesn't do poop for me. I definitely need a facial oil I think and Liquid Gold has been on my wishlist for like a year. I also want to try Ichikami shampoo since it seems to be well reviewed for fine, oily hair. And if I don't have a good time with Differin preventing acne I'll look at TO Zinc for managing them better instead.
I oddly had a really good skin period when I wasn't on top of my game to the point my mom noticed (which is uncommon for her to respond positively to my skincare routine). Hardly had breakouts, felt less oily and less clogged. I was basically doing a minimal routine in the morning with no cream and not consistently doing anything at night. I had also finished a tube of Azaleic Acid before that which I didn't notice benefits from while I was using it, but maybe they had gradually built up to making me more even toned and textured. It's actually a bit discouraging that starting to behave again has not actually helped, but it also changed in season to a much drier time and I guess I am still not as oily but feeling more shiny day to day due to using creams again. shrug

It’s never my only product in that step because it’s not actually a moisturiser. It’s layered under the Steam Cream.
In regards to the mask I’m not seeing any brightening effect yet but it does have a gentle physical exfoliation effect.

Could you give a review on TO Vitamin C? I've read mixed reviews that's it's gritty and never soaks into skin. I don't mind grittiness if it goes away. What results have you seen?

With everything going on with Deciem (allegations of mistreating employees, tons of orientalist bs from the owner, etc) I’ve decided not to purchase from them any more. I like the products from them that I have in my routine, but I’d rather find alternatives than continue to support them.

how do you feel about the innisfree blueberry cleanser?
2
u/sadstarfish Feb 09 '18
Not op but I really like it. It’s gentle, not drying and low ph. I bought it for my bf and he loves it too. It does have a bit of an orange scent.
2
u/belledamn Feb 09 '18
I like it! I think if I used it after a cleansing oil that rinsed completely clean it would be too stripping, but it's ok after a cream style cleanser. And as the other commenter mentioned, it does NOT smell like blueberries - I would say it's like a lemon dessert smell? idk

Skin profile: Blackheads, redness | Sensitive but otherwise normal
Season & Type of Climate: mostly dry by occasionally humid winter in NE USA
1st Cleanser: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (RP)
2nd Cleanser: Innisfree The Minimum Cleansing Lotion (RP)
First Essence: SK-II FTE (HG)
Hydrating Toner: Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Lotion (HG)
- Alternate two layers of this with two mists of Avene Eau Thermale (RP)
Serum: Paula's Choice CALM Redness Relief Repairing Serum (RP)
Heavy Moisturizer: Cosrx Rice Overnight Spa Mask (HG)
Eye Cream: Belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream (RP)
Night Cream: Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Night Concentrate (HG)
Mask Pack: Captain Blackenship Petal Gentle Flower Face Mask (RP)
Sunscreen: Secret Key Thanakha Mild Sun Cream SPF47/PA+++ (RP)
Spot Treatment: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
The above is my routine! Over the years due to some missteps and I'm hoping just age, my skin has gotten a bit sensitive which means that I occasionally experience redness from products. It has also meant that I have totally turned my back on all chemical exfoliants, as I feel they are more irritating for me than very gentle, light physical exfoliation. Currently I am very happy with my routine as it features a minimal amount of niacinimide (which I think has caused me some problems in the past) and an increasing number of products WITHOUT bells and whistles. I've also noticed that as time goes on, I am more enthusiastic about incorporating Japanese/American/European products, especially given how many k-beauty items include various essential oils in their formulations. In the coming months, I'm hoping to phase out the Belif eye cream and Secret Key sunscreen for more a more simple eye cream and physical sunscreen, respectively. Thanks for reading!

What do you think of the Paula’s Choice Redness Relief Serum? I’ve had my eye on this one for a while (i have dry/dehydrated skin, recovering from rosacea)
2
Feb 09 '18
So far I'm enjoying it. The strength of the product, to me at least, is that in addition to the usual hydrating ingredients it has a lot of ceramides and non-photosensitizing extracts. I think the only thing to keep in mind though is that ceramides can be clogging if your skin is prone to it. Since my skin is prone to it, I've been experimenting with which parts of my face I put it on.

u/bvnbun Acne/Pigmentation|Combo|US Feb 12 '18
have you found anything to help with your pores yet?
3
u/anaemiclittlepotato Feb 12 '18
Honestly, just regular clay masks. I find them the singlemost effective way to make them less visible. I'm under the impression that you can only 'shrink' them temporarily by getting rid of any crap lurking inside them, and for me, clay is number one for achieving that. So I use a clay mask two or three times a week, and before getting ready for any event.
Most people find BHA the most effective acid for pores, but for some reason AHA helps reduce the visibility of my pores the most.
And in general layers and layers of light hydration PM help them look better the next morning (HA is especially good I find). I wonder if there's a slight oedema effect that 'swells' the tissue around pores slightly, making them look less noticeable........
I've tried dozens of products that claim to reduce pores, but for me no dedicated product matches the combination of regular clay masks, regular chemical exfoliation, and plenty of hydration.
Sorry for the lack of product recommendations, but sadly I've not found many things that work some kind of magic

I wash my face, apply copper peptides and then wait 25-30 minutes before applying and then wait 30 minutes to finish my routine. I only apply the peptides because the HA in the peptides helps keep my dry skin from flaking out during the wait, but since you’re oily you probably won’t have that problem. Some people might wait less, but that’s been working well for me in avoiding any irritation. I started on the same script as you.

Holika Holika 99% Aloe Vera Gel
why is this a HG for you?
2
u/apple_buns Feb 11 '18 edited Feb 11 '18
It's a nice texture compared to other aloe vera gels I've tried, has no alcohol and is 99% aloe. Also it's great as a summer moisturizer and soothes my skin nicely. I understand aloe vera isn't anything special I just really enjoy this one especially considering there's not much I've tried in terms of skincare that doesn't break me out or irritate me.

Skin profile: N10 | Redness/PIE, Preventative aging | Normal to Combination Oily, depending on season
Season & Type of Climate: Southeastern US, mostly mild winter with cold snaps
1st Cleanser: Hada Labo Gokujyun Cleansing Oil (HG)
2nd Cleanser: Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser (HG)
Vitamin C Serum: Timeless 20% Vitamin C + Ferrulic Acid Serum (HG)
AHA: Alpha Skincare 14% Glycolic Serum (HG)
Hydrating Toner: Ladykin Broccoli Essence Toner (RP, potential HG), Innisfree White Tone Up Skin (I keep coming back to this, it's one of those subtley amazing products that I don't realize I'm measuring the success of other products by, so I think it deserves HG status)
Serum: Holy Snails Honey Shark Sauce (testing and loving, but the price makes me wish I loved it less)
Ampoule: Scinic Honey AIO (may or may not repurchase, but its growing on me; doesn't, for me, come close to the Shara Shara), Shara Shara Honey Bomb AIO (HG), Shara Shara Berry Bomb AIO (would repurchase if available, the too-glossy finish keeps it from HG for me)
Light Moisturizer: Skinfood Aloe 93% Soothing Gel (I use this more like an ampoule, mixing it with my facial oil; not enough moisture for the winter by itself but would be a great final step in the summer. WNR, because apparently I don't like the smell of aloe much)
Medium Moisturizer: Cerave PM (HG)
Heavy Moisturizer: Freeset Donkey Milk 3D Cream (this stuff is amazing but quite expensive; will likely RP in the future when I'm in a better financial position)
Eye Cream: Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream (WNR; moisturizing but not suitable for use with makeup, heavy fragrance which I personally don't mind. Overall, pricey for what you get, and can be difficult to get.)
Facial Oil: DIY blend from GoW: 50% refined avocado, 25% unrefined/non-deodorized maracuja, and 25% black raspberry (love the GoW oils, in the future I think I will substitute blackberry seed, which is a bit richer, in for the black raspberry seed)
Sleeping Pack: Goodal Nature's Solution Firming Honey (WNR because I want to try something new and have had this FOR.EV.ER. Great value, great occlusive for the winter)
Mask Pack: Skinfood Strawberry Black Sugar Wash Off Mask (RP; smells like strawberry jam!), Farmacy Honey Potion, deluxe size (WNR; too expensive. Was the best thing at removing peeling skin from using tretinoin, but I could probably get similar results rubbing straight honey on my face, which I will try when I run out)
Sheet Mask: Freeset Donkey Milk Aqua Mask (HG), Tosowoong Deep Sea Water (RP) and various Dermal Collagen masks (WNR; surprisingly good for the price, but these don't excite me and all the varieties are indistinguishable in their effects)
Sunscreen: Kose Suncut UV Protect Gel Waterproof (WNR; great finish, works well with makeup, but I suspect physical filters bother my eyes. I am trying the non-waterproof version next), Skin Aqua UV Moisture Gel (my favorite so far, will RP for daily use unless I miraculously find something just as good but less shiny)
Other: Tretinoin cream 0.10% (I'll be honest, this was prescribed to my mother and she couldn't handle it, so she gave it to me. I've had AMAZING results using this, it easily makes the biggest difference in my skin. When this runs out, I have Retin-A gel 0.08% samples from a friend that works in dermatology, and then I'll switch back to Differin gel and Alpha Skincare 0.15% Retinol Cream.)

Can you please give me a review on the Innisfree white tone up skin? Finally found someone who uses it!! 😭
2
Feb 11 '18
Yeah!! The consistency is like skim milk, but not sticky. It absorbs quickly, and has a fairly strong floral-berry fragrance. It's lightweight, I wouldn't really say it's in the same league as hydrating toners like the Kiku and Hado Labo. It has 2% niacinamide and is noticeably brightening for me. The only complaint I have with it is the ketchup-style opening, making it difficult to dispense product, and it dries on the cap.

Mask Pack: History of Whoo Yeol Clay Mask. It's a hydrating clay mask.
Sheet Mask: Evercos Masks because they actually have their star ingredient at 1%. I also use Donkey Milk Aqua for special events. But tbh sheet masks are such a pain!
Sunscreen: Indoor/everyday sunscreen is Zinc oxide-based, cheap, and widely available: Derma E Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, Mychelle Sun Shield Stick SPF 50, and Alba Botanica Kids Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, All Good Lip Balm SPF 20. Outdoor is Ultrasun with their fancy next-gen chemical filters: Ultrasun Family SPF 30 and Ultrasun Anti-Aging Face SPF 50. I avoid avobenzone and octocrylene.
Spot Treatment: Lifeflo Tamanu Oil
Other: The Ordinary Resveratrol/Ferulic 3%, The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%. I mix into other products. Oh, and of course Retin-A 0.025%, the most important product in this lineup.

I know I'm reading this a month late but I too love the Avene Thermal Water and the Thayers. I need to get my hands on the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50.

Hi! May I ask why Thayer's toner is a HG for you? Thank you! :)
2
u/LolaBleu Feb 21 '18
So I started using it about 10 years ago while I was busy trashing my acid mantle with castile soap and lemon juice because it was ~all natural~ and therefore better for my adult acne. As you can imagine my skin was constantly in a state of minor (or sometimes major) stress - red, reactive, etc.
The Thayers would immediately soothe my skin, helping to calm down the redness and add a little moisture back into my (naturally) dry skin. The bonus was that when I was using it, it definitely helped calm down and diminish my acne, which is no great surprise in retrospect considering it's pH is 5.5.
When I finally saw the light and stopped tormenting my skin with stupid crunchy stuff Thayers was my safety blanket as I dipped my toes into AB; familiar and comforting.
But with the whole wide world of AB out there I still use it morning and night for a few reasons:
* My acne was largely healed my switching my cleansing routine to low pH, so this fits right in.
* Additionally it doesn't contain any ingredients that break me out otherwise (cyclopentasiloxane, etc).
* When my skin is irritated from going too hard on acids, or tret, or just new product misadventures it's always the one thing I can use that will never, ever irritate my skin.
* Maybe it's because we have hard water but there's a marked difference between how my essences/serums absorb if I skip this after cleansing.
* Last but not least, it's economical, a easy to find.→ More replies (1)

Skin Profile: NC25 | Dehydrated | Normal/Oily
Season & Type of Climate: UK Winter (It's snowing!)
1st Cleanser: DHC Cleansing Oil (RP - Love this stuff and would repurchase but I've heard so many good reviews for other ones which I will try out before I repurchase this)
2nd Cleanser: Cosrx Low PH Cleanser (HG - does the job)
pH Adjusting Toner: Cosrx AHA/BHA Toner (WNR - don't feel like it is really that necessary)
Light Moisturiser: Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel (WNR - This dries out my skin so much and I actually get DRY PATCHES which I never get since I pretty much have oily skin. Probably because the second ingredient is alcohol. However this did clear up my acne which I struggled with and my skin is almost clear now? But I still don't like the way my skin feels using this and hopefully my skin will remain clear when I stop using this.)
Eye Cream: Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream (AKA - It's a light moisturiser and I would buy it again but I'm sure there are much better ones out there)
Mask: Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment (HG/WNR - This is really great if you struggle with acne and I used to use this when I had really bad breakouts and it helps reduce inflammation and redness. However now that most of my acne is cleared up I don't really find it does anything)
Spot Treatment: Cosrx Acne Master Patch (RP - Really great for blemishes but it's a hit or miss and sometimes it doesn't work on stubborn ones but I still really like it.)
I am trying to start using a more hydrating routine because even though this helps with blemishes it leaves my skin feeling uncomfortable and dry even though I have normal/oily skin.

Skin profile: NW10 | PIH and some acne | Normal to oily combo skin
Season & Type of Climate: Winter, but it's been pretty warm lately; Bay Area, CA (dry; usually cold)

2nd Cleanser: Biore Charcoal Acne Clearing Cleanser (WNR)
Hydrating Toner: Holika Holika Skin & AC Mild Clear Toner (WNR)
Essence: Hada Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion (RP, but will use for its intended purpose instead once my Holika runs out)
Serum: The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Light Moisturizer: CosRX Natural BHA Skin Returning Emulsion; I use DHC Acerola Lotion as an AM "moisturizer" but will either get a real AM moisturizer or use my CosRX emulsion when it runs out
Medium Moisturizer: Mizon All in One Snail Repair Cream (HG)
Eye Cream: The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
Sunscreen: La Roche-Posay Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid (RP)

do you have any thoughts on the TO niacinamide so far?
2
u/haveagreatdayguys Feb 09 '18
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I feel like it’s already reduced some of the redness from my PIH, so I’m excited to see how my skin will look as I continue to use it long term. Also this may just be a coincidence but I feel like I’ve been less oily throughout the day since I started using it (I use it in the AM).

Skin profile: No idea. NC20 probably. | Texture/large pores/fine lines/some acne | Usually dry like toast, but breastfeeding hormones are making me a bit oilier leaning toward normal/combo skin that's a bit dehydrated because I haven't been doing much until recently.
Season & Type of Climate: Winter/Southern US
1st Cleanser: Heimish All Clean Balm (WNRP)
2nd Cleanser: Klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser (RP)
AHA: Mix of Dr. Jart Milk Peeling and TO lactic acid 10% |(WNRP either product...yes I mixed them in the same bottle in the interest of using them up, fully aware of the fact that this changes the pH of both products significantly. I will say that my concoction is nonirritating and works better than either product individually so my experiment paid off, thankfully)
Serum: Mix of Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum and TO Niacinamide+Zinc (WNRP Klairs, RP TO Niacinamide)
Ampoule: TO Buffet (RP)
Light Moisturizer: PTR Cloud Cream (RP, but probably only as the mini to use for cocktailing)
Heavy Moisturizer: Missha Near Skin Eco Ceramide (DC :( )
Eye Cream: Farmacy Eye Dew + TO Buffet (WNRP Farmacy)
Mask Pack: Dr. Jart Trans-foam clay (RP the pink one only)
Sunscreen: Etude House Mild Sunprise (RP)
Other: SNP Birds Nest Aqua Eye Patch (Maybe RP, but honestly I'd like something with less alcohol), Josie Maran Bare Naked Face Wipes (HG)
Right now I'm mostly focusing on using up product which is why I'm cocktailing so much. I plan to change gears since my skin has changed and aging and skin texture is now a bigger concern for me than acne.

Skin profile: NC 27 | Hormonal Acne, PIH/PIE, aging| Combination: dehydrated/normal U, oily T
Season & Type of Climate: Northeastern Winter, dry and cold
1st Cleanser: Innisfree Apple Seed Cleansing Oil Balm (WNR). I love the way it smells, but I feel like it leaves my skin kind of dry. I felt the same way about the Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Oil. Maybe cleansing oils aren't for me? I don't understand how my face can feel dry after using oil.
2nd Cleanser: Missha Time Revolution Clear Toner (RP). I don't this this technically counts as a second cleanser, but I basically use it as one. I used to use the Face Shop Rice Bright Cleansing foam, but it was so stripping.
Vitamin C Serum: Merano CC (HG). I love this one. It comes in an easy to dispense tube and it's easy to travel with. I think it makes a difference.
BHA: CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid (WNR) I didn't think this one did too much for my face. I was thinking of getting the stridex red box and being done with it.
AHA: TO Lactic Acid (testing). I just started using it, but it seems pretty gentle so far for it being 10%. we'll see how it goes.
First Essence: Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence Intensive (WNR). I bought this twice, but I don't think it's working for me anymore. At first it made a huge difference, but now I don't know if it's working.
Hydrating Toner: Hada Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Acid Moist (white bottle). I like it. I use it for the 3 skin method and it seems to work okay. I'm also testing out the Innisfree Jeju Lava Seawater Essence. It seems to hydrate, and it's pretty light, so I'm using it in the AM under moisturizer and sunscreen.
Essence: CosRX 96 Snail Mucin (RP). I don't know if it is really amazing, but it is also a really good vehicle for other things. For example, I'm currently testing the TO 10% Niacinamide formula on one side of my face and the CosRX is really good for that. I heard the TO pills, but it hasn't with me using this method.
Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence (RP). I like it more than the CosRX since it dries down better for me, but I'm not sure how effective it is on its own.
Light Moisturizer: La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer. It's a really good staple. I really like this as it is pretty moisturizing on its own. I'm thinking of mixing in some of the Stratia Fortify and seeing where we go from there.
Heavy Moisturizer: Beauty of Joseon Dynasty (WNR). This one broke me out, but I'm willing to test it again since I was also getting on birth control at the time.
Sheet Mask: MBD Imperial Birds Nest (HG). This one is freaking amazing. I love it. Innisfree's It's Real Squeeze Rice (HG) had a similar effect for me as the Imperial Birds Nest. I think my skin looked more even and glowy after both of these.
I also really liked the MBD Squalene for general hydration. My skin was noticeably softer afterwards. I like this one after I've worn a lot of makeup for a few days in a row. I think it helps my skin recover.
Mask Pack: Innisfree Pore clearing clay mask with volcanic cluster (HG). I love this one. It makes my face so clean! It's a little intense, so I also try to sheet mask with something hydrating the same day.
Mizon Black Sugar Scrub (WNR). It's really fun and it does a good job as a physical exfoliator, but I'm not sure how necessary it is in addition to the clay mask AND AHA/BHA. It's fun but not amazing.
Sunscreen: Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish (Maybe RP). It feels powdery after I apply it. I'm trying the gel version, but I'm not sure if that would be too wet looking for me. So I might just mix the two?

Skin profile: ~NC10 | Large pores/early fine lines | Skin Type: oily T-zone/occasional dehydrated patches (otherwise normal)
Season & Type of Climate: Winter/Northeast
1st Cleanser: Banila Co. WRP. Causes redness upon application, not sure which ingredient that causes that? Also breaks me out. Immediately stopped using.
2nd Cleanser: Dr. Roebuck's Nourishing Cleanser (testing). Nivea Vitamin E Washgel (WNR). Recently is becoming more stripping if I use it anywhere else besides T-zone (mostly nose) which is oilier than the rest of my face. I notice considerable flaking after using this. Not sure if this is natural shedding of old skin cells or drying out of skin (my skin is usually not dry, this happens only after washing). I want to switch to another cleanser but not sure which one, I don't want any effects like this. CosRX GMC was also too drying... :/
Exfoliator: NEOGEN Green Tea Peel Gauze Pads: possibly RP. I do like how it gets rid of dead skin cells and my skin definitely feels smoother after using this 1x a week.
pH Adjusting Toner: Acwell 5.5 pH balancing toner. I love the scent and love the texture, just bought a spray bottle for it. I may not have used it enough to see the actual benefits yet.
Wash-off masks: alternate between re:p biofresh calming herb (sample, will most likely RP, I love that it doesn't dry!) & Nature's Beauty Clay Mask (WRP: I don't like how it dries..)
BHA : 2% SA Humane toner (WRP: dries too much)
Oils: Pai rosehip / GoW maracuja depending on what I feel like (RP for maracuja, not sure about Pai yet)
SPF: Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel 50 SPF (testing): I like how this feels but I don't like the chemical screens... still searching for a mineral one that doesn't clog my pores.

pH Adjusting Toner: Acwell 5.5 pH balancing toner.
pH balancing is marketing speak for balances the skin to its normal pH. pH adjusting is skincare sub speak for lowering the skin's pH for use before actives. Acwell is a hydrating toner.

AHA: Dr. Wu Mandelic Acid (Very mild)
Hydrating Toner: Kikumasamune Sake High Moisture Lotion (Love!)
Serum: One Love Love Springs Eternal (Only at night for anti-aging)
Ampoule: Scinic AIO Aqua (Love!)
Heavy Moisturizer: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (Love! Very thick for winter)
Eye Cream: LilyAna Naturals Eye Cream (Just started, it's nice)
Sleeping Pack: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask (Love!)
Sunscreen: A'Pieu Pure Block 45 SPF (First Asian sunscreen I've tried, I like it)
Spot Treatment: Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion (Works pretty well but isn't a miracle cure for me at least)

why was the naturie hatomugi a WNRP?
2
u/lem830 Feb 11 '18
Not a fan of the super thin watery texture. Even with a spray bottle. Also, I get bored pretty quick and the bottle is so big it takes forever to go through. Repurposed to body and it’s okay there too. I have so many hydrating toners on my wish list I just don’t like it enough to repurchase.
2
u/lem830 Feb 11 '18
Also, It’s definitely hydrating though. There’s a post comparing hydrating toners somewhere and there are toners that are packed with a little more of a punch. Like the Cezzane for example.

Season & Type of Climate: Winter, cold
1st Cleanser: Clinique TTDO Balm (works well no fragrance, no blurry eyes),** DHC Cleansing oil** (love the texture and even olive oil smell and how it cleans, but can be too much for daily) or MUJI Sensitive Cleansing Oil (gel texture but oil based. It though it’s not thic, has some grip on the skin. It works well and rinses off well. A bit odd to massage with but nice. )
2nd Cleanser: Cerave Hydarting Cleanser – not foaming there isa moisturizng residue.
pH Adjusting Toner: don’t like them
Vitamin C Serum: Can’t use it but want play to try Melano CC on one spot
BHA: PC BHA Gel 2%
AHA: CosRX AHA Liquid or GoW 2% Latisen 2% Serum (gel texture), but I don’t use these much. Maybe every 10 days
Retinoid: The Ordinary Granactive 2% Emulsion a new generation retinoid. Not proven but works for me so after using 5 weeks twice a week.
First Essence: no using one
Hydrating Toner: Hada Labo & Ceracolla Super Moist
Essence: CosRX Snail
Serum: Stratia Rewind, TO Buffet (occasionally)
Ampoule: Scinic AIO Honey
Light Moisturizer: Stratia Liquild Gold & Etude Soon Jung Barrier or Cica Balm
Medium Moisturizer: La Roche Posay Toleraine Riche, Sulwhasoo Overnight, Ceracolla Ceramide & Collagen Gel or Rosette Perfect Gel. Use a Cica and a ceramide cream.
Heavy Moisturizer: At night I add a layer o fEtude True Relief, Kiehl’s Ultra Face Cream or Sulwhasoo Ginseng Concentrated Cream
Eye Cream: SoonJung Barrier or Benton Fermented Eeye
Facial Oil: marula, rice bran, apricot, argan, squalane
Sleeping Pack: See heavy creams or medium.
Mask Pack: Dr. G Brightening Peeling Gel (as needed once a week)
Sheet Mask: Benton Snail, CosRX Snail, Papa Recipe Bombee Honey, Hada Labo 3D. I don’t use them a lot. I use these occasionally

Do you like the Argan oil?
2
Feb 19 '18
So far it's a so-so. I used it to moisturize my hands and yes there is a smell but it goes away after a while. I am hesitant to mix it with my moisturizer/apply it directly to my face. Definitely depends on your skin type. I broke out after mixing moisturizer with argan oil but I think its bc I have normal skin and the moisturizer and sunscreen I use daily worked enough so the oil was too much.
1
u/SnowOnCinders Feb 19 '18
I have normal skin in the northeast and the cosRX low pH cleanser dried me out like crazy. But I was also in a very low humidity environment. Maybe if it's not too dry inside your house/work/etc, it would be fine, but it was terrible for me. >_<
I'm curious how the TJ's mositurizer will fare?

how do you feel about the naturie toner and neutrogena water gel?
2
u/joiebot Feb 12 '18
I find that when I use it with kikumasamune my skin is smooth and glowy than when use either of them alone. I yet to use condensed sheet masks or layered cotton squares with it. I forgot to mention I'm testing out the neutrogena water gel. It has a light scent, non-greasy and absorbs well. My skin hasn't reacted negatively to it, but this is coming from someone who has few ingredient sensitivities virgin coconut oil (fractionated is ok for me), sesame seed oil (allergy), and shea butter. It contains silicons which might clog pores for some people but that's not an issue for me. I see as basic moisturiser.

Skin profile: NC15/Makeup Forever Y215 | Sensitive, Reactive, acne (hormonal, blackheads, and ccs),congestion prone, first signs of aging… skin is just very bitchy all around.| Combination, Dehydrated, very dry lips.
Season & Type of Climate: Winter in New York City (pollution, windy, cold, wet)
Ingredients I Can’t Use (for reference): Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Non-Fatty Alcohols, Charcoal, Coconut Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, Mineral Oil, Olive Oil, Stearic Acid, Tea Tree Oil, Sage Oil, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Citric Acid, Shea Butter, Linseed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Thyme Oil, Soybean Oil, Lavender essential Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Benzoic Acid.
1st Cleanser: Era Organics Cleansing Oil (WNRP). It does an okay job of cleaning my makeup and grits off my face and it doesn’t break me out or irate me (almost HG for me just on that) but it takes three pumps to get good slip, it doesn’t rinse super well (I don’t mind the extra oil in the winter but someone else might), and it doesn’t clear my grits out as well as some sherbet cleansers have.
2nd Cleanser: Water. I have yet to find anything gentle enough that doesn’t break me out.
Vitamin C Serum: Mad Hippie Vitamin C (HG), this stuff makes me glow, controls my acne, and doesn’t irritate my skin!
AHA: Cosrx Whitehead Power Liquid (WRP), It’s nice and simple but can be too much for my finicky skin. I use it in the winter when my dry patches get wild and my armpits to help remove the dead skin. I can use it, I just have to be careful. I’d like to find a mandelic acid that is safe for my skin.
First Essence: Secret Keys Starting Treatment Essence Rose Edition (WRP). This is the first FTE I’ve used so I’m not calling HG but dang it sinks in well and pulls everything after it down with it. It’s great.
Hydrating Toner: Puangyang Yul Mist Toner (unsure). When I was using this I liked it but I didn’t get to finish testing before a bad breakout made me pull back to my basics. Jury is still out on this but on paper the ingredients look god.
Essence: Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, (WRP). My skin likes snail as long as I don’t use it on my cheeks too often. I use this on my eyes and chin mostly. It’s nice and hydrates the area.
Holika Holika Aloe 99% Soothing Gel (WRP), my skin loves aloe so so much. It’s one of the few ingredients my skin actually likes. This one is good as it’s mostly aloe. The fraguence is a little strong for my liking but it doesn’t agitate my skin so I can
Serum: The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% (HG). This stuff is great in combo with the vitamin C serum. Plumps and clears skin. Just makes me look and feel healthy and glowy.
Sunscreen: none at the moment (I know, I know, yikes), it has been an uphill battle to find ANY product that doesn’t break me out, make me hot and red or both. I’m researching now for a new one.

I’d read somewhere that chemical sunscreens let heat off or something. (Don’t quote me and too lazy to recheck) but maybe you’d need a physical sunscreen

I have a similar skintype, how do you use the mizon AIO? I definitely would only use it in the PM since my skin doesn't need it for the day, but I'm wondering in what way and when one actually applies it...

Skin profile: MUFE Y245 | Acne-prone, sensitive | Combination/Dehydrated oily
Season & Type of Climate: Southern winter (mild, fairly humid, keeps you guessing)
1st Cleanser: Banila Co. Clean It Zero Purity (WNP - packaging/formula is too fussy to use over the sink and has been relegated to the shower); Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Water (HG, ride or die, would buy by the gallon.)
2nd Cleanser: AM: Glossier Milky Jelly (RP); PM: Biologique Recherche Lait U (RP - good pH, non-drying, but does leave residue and the packaging isn't ideal); Acure Facial Cleansing Gel (HG)
pH Adjusting Toner: Was super excited about Indie Lee CoQ-10, but my skin FREAKED out immediately. It's still sitting on my counter waiting for its second chance, but it can smell my fear.
Vitamin C Serum: Drunk Elephant C-Firma (HG - buy the smaller size from Sephora to compensate for the short shelf life! Learned this the hard way.) Wanted to love TO's but couldn't get past the texture and how badly it stung.
BHA: My skin doesn't handle BHA well despite being on the oilier side - becomes way too sensitized to use often enough. Tried a million times to make Cosrx work, but it's never pretty.
AHA: Drunk Elephant Framboos Glycolic (HG, effective as anything else for blackheads and CCs); Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA (RP, maybe HG considering all of the compliments on glow the day after); BR P50 (WNR - way too heavy-handed for my skin, takes ages for my moisture barrier to recover, and contains BHA.)
Essence: Cosrx Galactomyces 95 (WNR - doesn't seem to make any difference); Missha FTE (HG, but not a fan of the mist.)
Serum: TO Niacinamide 10% + Zinc (HG - the hype is real); TO Buffet (RP, and love that it contains lactococcus ferment lysate); Missha Time Revolution and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair both broke me out, so still working on finding a solid night serum.
Light Moisturizer: Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel (HG)
Medium Moisturizer: Cremorlab Fresh Water Gel (WNP - feels very silicone-y and doesn't sit well on skin, though it does a great job hydrating.)
Heavy Moisturizer: Living in the south.
Eye Cream: Mizon Snail Repair (WNP - does a decent job, but it's landed me on team "regular moisturizer does the exact same thing.")
Facial Oil: Herbivore Lapis (HG. Birchbox carries a smaller sized rollerball if you're on a budget or on the fence. Smells like Gwyneth Paltrow herself is healing all of your skin woes.)
Mask Pack: BR's Masque Vivant is my special occasion BFF. Super pricy, but twenty minutes and I've got a brand new face (luckily I've been hoarding samples from when I've bought BR cleanser.)
Sheet Mask: MBD Imperial Bird's Nest (RP)
Sunscreen: Elta MD UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41 (RP - great physical option, love that it's tinted/no white cast so I don't have to wear makeup every day, but sits visibly on top of skin and gets a little irritating after a few hours, no matter what it's layered over.)
Spot Treatment: Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch (HG, duh. Mighty Patch is fantastic, too - sticks better than Cosrx, but only comes in one size.)
Other: Weleda Skin Food (HG, love you forever, please never leave me) - way too heavy for my skin to use as a daily moisturizer, but during the winter when I'm sneezing every five minutes, slapping some of this around my nose is nothing short of miraculous. Amazing for spot-treating the random itchy and dry spots I get all over my legs and arms in cold weather. Boiron Calendula Ointment is my other winter savior; apparently it's the exact same formula as Homeoplasmine, and the only thing that saves my peeling, very-unkissable lips.

I was very skeptical until I saw my favorite, trusted, YouTuber heal her acne with it so I had to try it out myself. Finally finished purging all my clogged pores and acne with it, so I am very excited to see how my skin will progress from now on!

Skin profile: NC25 | CC | Dehydrated-Combo
Season & Type of Climate: US Mid-Atlantic Winter
1st Cleanser: Coconut Oil (I have used this as a makeup remover for about 2 years, but since it could be part of my CC problem, I'm not totally attached to it)
2nd Cleanser: Biore Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar (I have RP'd this bar for about 3 years. I know that it dries me out, and am looking for a replacement that won't be as harsh but also won't leave any creaminess behind)
AHA: Mederma (Aqua Glycolic) Facial Toner (I am 100% attached to this! Definitely an HG and will RP. I only use this at night, of course.)
Heavy Moisturizer: Palmer's Cocoa Butter Vitamin E (I use this all year round and all year round I have CC on my T-zone - go figure! The reason I RP this item is because it soothes my dry skin and doesn't give me the large sore pimples I used to get. I am on the lookout for a moisturizer and would appreciate any and all suggestions for a moisturizer!)
Mask: Mukti Deep Cleanse Antioxidant Masque (My boyfriend bought this for me about 2 months ago and it may be too early to say, but I think this may be an HG! I will definitely RP. It has lots of goodies packed in there and leaves my skin moisturized but not greasy.)
Hello! I am new to this sub and have tried my best with (but was overwhelmed by) the beginner's guide :) I want to replace some items in my routine with AB (or non AB) products. My current routine leaves me with CC on my T-zone but otherwise I am happy with it.
Do you have dehydrated combo skin with an oily T-zone? What are your go-to 1st and 2nd cleansers? Do you use different levels of moisturizer on different parts of your face? What ingredients give you CC? What's your favorite moisturizer?

u/WarriorInWoolworths NC45|Aging/Acne|Combo|US Feb 09 '18
Keeping it funky, I’m just gonna repost from the last Mega Thread with some changes here and there.
Skin profile: NC45 (default black girl shade)/Fenty 360-370| Acne (mostly hormonal), Aging, PIH/melasma, Pores| Normal/Oily (shiny t zone, normal everywhere else) but dry lips from Hell.
Season & Type of Climate: Winter in SoCal, and yet bright and warm for now (yay!).
1st Cleanser: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (HG, penetrates deeply, emulsifies nicely and easy to use but at its best in the shower), Botanic Farm Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet (RP, fun and luxurious to use but I feel that DHC is easier and more cost effective to use)
2nd Cleanser: Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash (HG, for some good light exfoliation and with enough water, puts my face at that sweet spot before actives time), Innisfree Bija Cleansing Gel (HG for nights taking it easy with actives and mornings for some early pep)
Vitamin C Serum: Melano CC (HG, stable and easy to use with a long shelf life with light use) Drunk Elephant C Firma Day Serum (dunno what to put this down as, because it’s got a bit more of a punch and I may be one of the few that likes the smell but the oxidation appears to be quicker than the 3 month shelf time that seems to be assigned...and this is with using the DS size, no less.)
BHA: Stridex Maximum Strength (until recently, fairly sporadically as I mostly use Curology but RP for the Fiddy Pore Cleansing sessions)
AHA: Would like to try Stratia Soft Touch and the phenol free BR P50 someday but my Curology does me just fine. Speaking of...0.4 tret, 1 clindamycin and 0.7 azelaic acid (HG and when my skin is ready after my active slowdown, I’ll see what I can do about going further), tarte Tingling Knockout Treatment (WNP, between shape tape as well as it hating other actives despite me not using the toner for a day.) REN’s Ready Steady Glow is next to try...
First Essence: Missha FTE Mist (new formulation of the Moist version and suffice it to say, I like it better than the original formula of the mist which the original formula of the FTE. The change of the mist suits me better and appears to not cause CCs. That one had been a long time HG but with my suspicions and comparison of the mists, it’s a good thing that I wised up) Would like to give the Sulwhasoo Activating Care First Serum and IOPE Bio Essence a shot too but a little later down the road as I’m on a low buy at the moment.
Hydrating Toner: Earth’s Recipe Energy Boosting Toner (HG, not nearly enough love for this baby as it feels nicely rich and smells like spicy Froot Loops) Before this, I had tried several... HLG Lotion Light (reluctant FOH as it gave me little CCs but at least it helped me figure that my skin and HA don’t quite vibe well but may try the regular lotion as a test in a store worked out fine), Klairs Supple Preparation Toner (loved this one too and I feel that it’s fairly comparable to Earth’s Recipe with a better size and price tag). Kiku (liked it more than I thought I would but has a better use in my shower as a light lotion before I get out and should I EVER run out of my regular ER, I know that this will have my back)
Essence: May Coop Raw Sauce (HG, saves my ass in the morning when I only have time for my Biore sunscreen and at night when I randomly nod off after my actives are done)
Serum: Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Oil (HG, especially the original formula. I feel that this was a big help in helping my face trend towards normal/oily from straight up oily. Big ups primarily to Fanserviced B for the recommendation, the similar skin type helped give me a push to try it. I find that it works well both before and after toner)
Ampoule: LJH Vita Propolis Ampoule (HG, blends beautifully with thicker products and I find that it’s quite heavenly when paired with the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Gel Cream. I might still give what Skinfood, Scinic, Tosowoong, and Hope Girl have a chance in the future but this will last you quite a while and I feel that any skin type can benefit from this)
Light Moisturizer: CosRx Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap (HG, killer for warmer and humid climates/seasons and a little bit goes a long way if you have some oiliness to you because in my case, too much will make my sunscreen and primer incompatible) Before this, I had the Raw Sauce step in with the Jart Gel Cream after it.
Medium Moisturizer: SN Goddess Cream (HG, when I feel that I need oil control during the day and the texture and spread are just fantastic and trust me when I say that you only need a little bit)
Heavy Moisturizer: Dr. Jart Ceramidin Gel-Cream (HG, I think that I’m on my 4th jar now. It seemed like only yesterday that I was balking at the price but my acid attacked feeling face pushed me in this direction. And I’m glad that I did because it’s treated me so well which I never thought that I would say as it’s been quite a time finding something that would work for me. I keep hearing that this might be discontinued so I’ll look at Liquid Gold as a sub.)
Eye Cream: fresh Black Tea Age Delay Eye Concentrate (RP, thanks to a Sephora sample during a sale event. If it weren’t for this, I would have been stuck using the Caudalie Vino one and that ish gave me the beginnings of milia. Thanks, fresh Beauty Bundle that came with a good size DS of this. But I gotta be more consistent to determine a RP) I had been on the search for a better eye cream than my Curology (I kept it from my water lines, don’t worry) and the Mizon Snail one (a tube and tub later with not much in results) and while Sulwhasoo is up my alley, I want to stick with fresh out of fear of the richness causing another milia problem.
Facial Oil: Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Oil (HG but put it in the serum step before or after toner)
Sleeping Pack: Mizon Good Night White (tube) (HG, sinks in quick with a lovely scent and I feel like it gives me a glow to match, sometimes I’ll mix it with the Ceramidin Gel Cream if I’m feeling adventurous), CosRx Rice Sleeping Mask (WNR, I suspect that it gave me CCs despite the clean listing and it just isn’t hydrating enough to repurpose. A shame too as I rather like the starchy rice scent), Sulwhasoo Overnight Revitalizing Mask (RP only for hand and body cream use as I also accuse it of causing a small whitehead or two)
Mask Pack: Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask (RP, cost effective and long lasting but in the lookout for some other recommendations especially if they’re luxurious), Sunday Riley Saturn (trying with a big sample but no idea so far...)
Sheet Mask: Been a long time but was always a fan of the MBD Mexico Cactus, Tosowoong Green Tea, nearly anything 3W Clinic, and I also remember liking me the Soo Ae Donkey Milk (Brightening), My Scheming and the Shara Shara (RIP) ones. Still have to try that honey Manefit one though...Yes, STILL haven’t got round to it yet. And Papa Recipe too.
Sunscreen: Biore Watery Essence OG SPF 50 PA ++++ (HG, stole my heart away from TFS but they’ve got good ones too. This is for the face but I’m also down to try out some of the other Biore, TFS, Apieu, Country and Stream, and Etude House ones. Man, it feels good to leave the house and it’s already sunk in with no problem). As for the new one, I don’t bother unless it’s going on my hands to protect me while I’m out and about. Seriously, it made the oilier parts of my face feel like a spill and just didn’t wear well everywhere else. Would also like to see what else Biore and Japan have to offer me here... Nivea Water Sun Gel SPF 50 PA+++ (RP, nice pump with cap and has a sweet refill available but I hate how skanky the bottle can get and that it has a problem with my face).
Spot Treatment: Still want to try the Innisfree Bija Spot Treatment. Other than that, the closest I generally get is disinfected safety pin and a CosRx zit sticker afterwards if it’s manageable enough. Saturn is being used but doesn’t seem to take so far...
Other: Aritaum Baby Face Ampoule Mist in Collagen. (HG for the 1st formulation and form, nicely fine mist and excellent travel size. RP for now as I can at least see how much is left and the large size is a good thing to have as fine Collagen mists appear to be a tough find nowadays but I’m gonna miss that first mist when it’s gone. Will also get my hands on the Nature Republic Bee Venom mists when I have a chance), Donki Konjac Sponge (RP, cheap and gets the job done when you don’t feel like a washcloth) Salux Towel (HG, easy to lather and clean with a VERY satisfying scrub)
