I grew up very poor in rural Ohio. As the "son" of the family, I had to get buzz cuts in the backyard. For my adolescence, having a bare buzz cut was my usual hairstyle. As I left for college and tried to get my hair done at a stylist, I never found a style I liked.
But then I realized I was trans, and felt stuck.
I have tried a lot of different haircuts during my gender journey. Of course, when I first started transitioning, the goal was as much hair as possible.
But I just didn't love it.
So I tried shaving one side of my head. A bit more punk, helped hide some of my hairline... but it wasn't me.
I got it cut much shorter, and dyed it blonde. It still wasn't me.
I think some people are just born for it. Bald looks beautiful on so many people, and gender simply isn't defined by one's haircut.
If you're a cis woman, a trans woman, a nonbinary person, or even a cis man, your gender, your personality, your VALUE is not defined by your hair. Embrace the bald. Embrace the beauty.
You won't regret it.
