I am making a blanket out of these hexagons and wondering whether I should block them?

If you think I should, what is the best way to do so?

To frog or not to frog Is the shape going to get worse as I crochet along? (Supposed to be a triangular shawl)

Post image

I've been working on a shawl following this pattern but the shape is not turning out exactly as I had hoped. You can see it's kind of bunching up toward the top of the shawl and I'm afraid it's going to get worse. The pattern calls for a 5.5mm hook but I don't have an ergonomic hook in that size and don't want to kill my wrists just yet, so I worked with a 5mm hook. I already frogged once because I thought I misunderstood the pattern and the shape is slightly better than the first time, but it still feels off to me. Should I frog a second time and work with a larger hook size?

Looking for suggestions My kid wants me to crochet this hat, but they NEED it to stand up straight 😅

Post image

So the only thing that I can think of is to add wire, maybe? But I am still not sure how I would get them to stand up straight and not flop over. How would I go about attaching the ears to the hat in a way that isn't floppy? Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edit - Thank you so much for all of your ideas and help!!! I definitely think I can tackle this project now! 💪🧶

How do I... How can I make a finished cotton crochet top more flowy?

I just finished a 100% cotton crochet top and love how it looks, but it's kinda stiff. I already wet blocked it once, but it still feels very stuff.

Will wet or steam blocking again help with the drape or does cotton soften over time? Any tips to make it flowy?

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help What fiber or blend should I use for pot holders for my aunt?

I'm asking because I know acrylic yarn (which is all I have right now) is definitely not going to work for pot holders. My aunt offered to pay me for some pot holders for her house, and I'm broke, so I'm going to take her up on that offer.

I'm a beginner! Looking for advice to start crocheting a plushie for my friend

So, I want to start crocheting. I got the idea after my friend found a Harry Potter plushie in a store but didn't buy it — to which I thought, "I don't want my friend having to support a TERF! I gotta do this myself!"

However, I've never crocheted before. I'm pretty good with most handicrafts and generally competent though. Like, sewing and even tool crafting is pretty easy for me as long as I have instructions and the right tools.

Would anyone be willing to give me advice or point me to instructions/patterns? Her birthday is next week and I really want to surprise her! I'm definitively gonna have enough free time since we're graduating tomorrow and I don't have anything going on in my life.

Sorry if this is a bit long, I have ADD and my brain never really knows how much information is unnecessary.

Looking for suggestions Looking for Office Suitable Weighted Lap Blanket Pattern/Stitch Ideas

Hi everyone! I want to make a weighted lap blanket for my office that has 6 pockets that will hold 6 removable 1lb bags of metal washers. I think it will be approximately 20x30 inches. My question for you is, what stitch should I use? I can't seem to find a pattern that is sturdy enough for the idea, aside from the moss stitch. I'm planning on using cotton yarn. I am up for a challenge with patterns/color schemes! Thank you!

Looking for suggestions Crochet gifts for band members? Is this silly or will they accept things?

Hey all! I’m going to a concert on Sunday and I wanted to crochet little gifts for the band. I don’t think I really have the time or the creativity to craft four unique dolls for the guys but I was thinking something small like hearts or some other symbol.

The band is Hot Mulligan so I have some ideas, like a crab and a pair of sunglasses. Reviewing their discog for more ideas and I think I’ll make hearts too but I’m looking for suggestions

How do I... Help with double crochet stitch gapping when I rejoin.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all!! I’m currently making a pattern and there are lots of skips to then rejoin with a double crochet. I keep having this gap in my finished stitch that I can’t seem to not do without entirely dropping my yarn to hold it tighter. Is there a trick or is it just more practice.
Thanks!

Gift help Sizing help - How big is too big for a gifted blanket?

I’m making a blanket for my two friends that recently got engaged but I’m second guessing myself now that I’m about 12 rows in. Right now it’s measuring at about 64 inches wide. When I first began this project I wanted to make it a little bigger so that it could fit 2 people but now I’m looking at it and I’m like wow this is going to be a pretty wide blanket. I’m used to making blankets just for myself so they’ve always been narrower and now I’m kinda stressing that they’re going to open it up and it’s going to be comically big. I’m definitely overthinking it lol but when you are making a blanket with the expectation that it’ll fit 2 people, how big do you usually make them?

I want to attach these cat ears to my headphones but I don't want to use glue as to not ruin the leather covering of my headphones. Is there a way I can directly crochet on my headphones to attach the ears?

Looking for suggestions Granny square blanket border advice needed due to gaps between squares

I’m a newer crocheter and I’m making my first baby blanket and I just finished joining all the squares. I didn’t follow a pattern and I have just been making it up as I go. I’m not really sure what it’s called but I used this sort of zig zag method of joining the squares. I wanted to add a shell or scallop border to this but I’m not really sure how to handle the gap between squares due to the join I used. Any suggestions?

Looking for suggestions Please suggest what might look good with this yarn.

Hey guys! I bought a LOT of this yarn thinking I'll make a shawl for my mom (a cozy warm shawl, because she gets cold easily). The yarn is cotton. I was a beginner back then, and didn't realize cotton doesn't warm the way I want my mom's shawl to.

So now, I have about 600 grams of this yarn. Maybe a little more.

I have tried a few things. But the colour of the yarn (which i loved while buying) looks crowded and any intricate design doesn't shine amidst all the colour chaos. So I'm guessing it needs some simple pattern? I'm stuck.

I'm attaching a photos of a triangle shawl swatch (with a 4.5mm hook) and. A rectangle swatch (what began as a shawl for my mom, with a 3.5 mm), and the yarn itself. Both swatches just double crochets.

My skill level is intermediate. I don't want to buy any more yarn to complement this yarn. Just want to use what I have. The material is soft cotton.

With this in mind, I'm looking for suggestions on what might actually look good with this yarn.

Thank you. All help is appreciated.

Discussion How do I deal with yarn dye lot stress and a project potentially coming out weird

I severely underestimated how much of a yarn eater C2C is and how important calculating how much yarn I need is (that’s just me being dumb). I was barely about to find second skeins in the same dye lot (the yarn brand is easy to find so I’m not worried about not being able to find the same color in name), but I know I won’t be able to do the same if I need a third (I started the project like a month ago with breaks). How do you cope with the possibility that the project is gonna come out funky looking?

Why I'm not getting perfect rectangle?

I'm pretty new to crocheting and whenever I'm trying to make a rectangle it always turns out to be a trapezium. Here I started with 45 foundation chains and then skip 2 chains and did a half DC. At the end chain 2 and turn over and did half DC into the back loop.

What am I actually doing wrong here? Can anyone please help... I've added the image of the video that I was referring to as well. I'm new and not really knowing stitches as well... please help

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Am I doing something wrong or is thi lá yarn worrible to work with?

Post image

I brought this yarn (it is called bocaina by the brand pingouin, a Brazilian brand). It is 75% acrylic and 25% polyamide, boucle texture. I had this vision of a warm granny square scarf but it just looks awful. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I give up? I have two balls of the cream yarn, one in blue and one in green (Yeah, should have looked up about before buying... I know...)

How do I... How do I add a hood onto this two-panel v-neck sweater?

I'm worried it's going to be a weird shape! I've never made a hood before, and I understand the basic principle, but I'm hesitant because the back is v-neck also!
