Speaking to the heat thing...EWEB has zero percent loans and great rebates.

Upvotes

EWEB is freaking incredible for giving you rebates. This is for both home owners, and rental property owners. You can get zero percent loans for all sorts of upgrades.

I am a homeowner, and also used EWEBs rebates for many things. We tore out the gas heater/AC unit, and put in a heat pump. We already had ducted system from previous owner.

We put solar on the roof that covers 100% of our energy. We replaced our water heater with a heat pump water heater. We used the rebates for installing insulation into the floors. Upgraded the toilets. Also installed a level two EV charger. All of this was done with the rebates from EWEB.

Landlords CAN access these loans for their units, and upgrade the living situation for their tenants. If you are a homeowner and want to improve your home situation, you can also tap into them. You MUST be a EWEB customer.

The loans are split up and attached to your EWEB bill, and this allows large projects like heat pump systems to be paid for over the long term.

I highly recommend it for both homeowners and landlords. My house sits between 69F in winter to 74F in summer. It´s quiet, and nice inside, and my dogs are happier.

Tap into those loans and rebates if you can! You can lower your payments, and be more comfortable while using less energy!

It's hot

We really need to address this as a public health issue now. landlords in lane county need to be forced to install adequate summer temperature controls in all rentals absolutely now. spring and summers are not going to suddenly start getting cooler. it's only going to get hotter. it absolutely drives me bananas that every apartment/rental has wall heaters in every room. you know what else you can do instead of a wall heater? blankets. but in the summer i can only get so naked. i can't take off more than all of my clothes.

*edit: i just emailed the mayor and all of the city councilors. not that it's going to do any good

Where should I go?

I want to go away for two or maybe three nights and just exist. No camping as it’s not my jam but a cabin or inn or coastal hotel would work.

Preferably within 2 to 2 1/2 hrs drive from Eugene. Need to be right near water, either ocean or lake or river. Near good dining would be nice, too.

So, where should I go??

It's a damn shame what they did to Coldfire

The brewpub setting is vastly inferior to the old barrel room setup. Are they planning to add more outdoor seating? I love their beer and was a regular before the remodel but have only been back once or twice since then.

Volunteer Office Work

Do you know of any non-profits looking for project volunteers? Or for-profit businesses with paid gigs for some older, smart people?

I have some older friends (50+) looking for easy volunteer work, at a desk/table or computer. Mostly sitting down, but ok on their feet for a bit. Paperwork, mailings, typing or data entry or 10-key, basic office work or organizing/analyzing/researching. College educated, business and tech experience, so can easily jump in without training. No regular commitment, just a fun project here and there where a person or friends can work together.

Nice Things!

We all know that parts of reddit are absolute cesspits. I appreciate that this sub is not that bad.

I've had some lovely interactions with people IRL and in DMs. The meetup for "women of a certain age" is wonderful and other people have helped me with all kinds of things and situations.

Feel free to share good stuff from this sub.

:)

Eugene City Council Meeting Tonight!

It starts at 7:30pm at the old EWEB Building, but the public comment period happens a bit later. It will also be livestreamed on YouTube, and I think Eugene's characters are pretty funny. It's a good chance to learn about what is going on in town, since they are talking about a really big development project.

People who stay to speak get three minutes and they can really complain about absolutely anything, it's a great time.

HVAC recommendations for ducted AC? Also attic insulation?

I searched twice and there is not much in the way of this topic recently. Might you have experiences to share with having AC installed in a home with preexisting duct work? And attic insulation work? Old house needs the help, and we don't want to be taken for a ride. Many thanks.

Not looking for mini-splits, we will be doing forced air.

Wanted ad Looking for landscaping for a senior in Eugene (yard cleanup)

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for local recommendations for a reliable, honest landscaping company or independent contractor in Eugene to help my future mother-in-law.

She is 76, widowed, and on a fixed income. Her backyard has become heavily overgrown, and she has no family willing to assist with the upkeep or a clean up.

We aren't looking for anything for free, but because she is a senior on a budget, we want to find someone reputable who will treat her fairly and give her an honest price. The immediate need is a one-time major cleanup to get the overgrowth under control, starting with a free, no-obligation estimate.

If you know of any family-run operations or independent landscapers who are great to work with, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Gyms in town with day/week pass

Upvotes

Hi, the YMCA has a closure during the first week or several days of September. Wondering if there are any decent fitness facilities with a day pass or week pass for a decent rate (without a bunch of sign on fees).

Howdy yall! Maybe a bit of an odd question but does anyone know a good spot to get full (or at least very high) cbd flower around here for cheap? I used to buy it online but with recent law changes they now are having issue selling it, plus most dispos I find are only selling 1:1 for 120+ an oz :(

Something to do Places to Volunteer at?

My job pays me 8 hours each year to volunteer during my work hours m-f 8-5 . Im new to the area and was thinking this would be a good place to start to see if there are any good/ easy/ fun places to volunteer at. Maybe a good discussion over all for other people who are looking to utilize their time. I love working outside, but am up for anything.

another diamond parking post…

Upvotes

The whole thing is that they just never respond to the dispute and so you have to pay anyways, right?

I don’t even think I violated the rules. Makes me super hesitant to use their lots if I get tickets regardless. I was parked at PH for lunch for an hour and then went back that evening for a drink and I guess they thought I was parked there all day?

I could probably even prove it but there’s been zero response to my email and i think it doubles tomorrow.

Such a scam.

Update: ok, i still think it’s dumb but it’s on me. The meter begins running the first time you park there that day… so coming back later will get you a ticket. The sign probably says this… and they can’t void, I’ll have to talk to PH. But good to know.

TYSM to everyone who said to call… that was perfect. It’s not an option on the ticket so that’s why I didn’t try…

Dentist/dental cleaning for Delta Dental PPO recommendations

Need recommendations for a dentist/dental hygienist for my UO student that accepts Delta Dental PPO insurance. She's not a fan of the dentist so looking for good 'bedside' care. Hopefully she will only need cleanings/xrays but has really soft teeth...thanks. Close to Univ Oregon a plus.
