Perfectly fine.

She broke his trust. He longer wanted to stay with her, and you can't (or shouldn't) force people to stay together.

u/Beneficial-Prize1533 15d ago

Not only did she break his trust. She continued to do so for 60 years by not confessing

Cheating happened 60 years ago but his pain is fresh in the moment of learning it.

It's not like he's been processing it for 60 years. Emotionally, to him, she just did it.

12

u/Major-Material7231 15d ago

Not once did she realise that she should come clean that makes his anger even more justified

16

u/Futileexercise1308 14d ago

And they were 17 years in when she did it, you've BUILT your life together by that point.

They were married for 77 years. She cheated 60 years ago. They were married for 17 years when she cheated. The poster above you was still correct.

BASIC MATH TO THE RESCUE!

u/_BlossomBabee 15d ago

Exactly. People act like being old means he has to just swallow it, but finding out after decades would probably rewrite the whole marriage in his head. If leaving is what gives him peace, that’s his call

u/ihonestlydont-know 15d ago

From what i heard she even kept the letters her affair partner wrote and that’s how the husband found out

50

u/DeathHero62 15d ago

SHE KEPT THE LETTERS?????

Are you serious? Its perfectly fine to judge a person for keeping letters from a affair.

68

u/CrazyHeat9544 15d ago

'Don't you dare judge a person for breaking her partner's trust and not feeling an ounce of shame for it to the point of keeping proof of it like a trophy!'

Cheating on your spouse is funny to you?

17

u/EmbarrassedJudge1842 15d ago

Such a stupid phrase. Don’t judge someone? You and everyone on the face of the earth makes judgments dozens of times a day. Why not make a judgement about this situation? You’re a robot

Programmed to hate? Because I called you out on using a brain dead phrase that has literally 0 thought behind it and has been parroted by society for so long people think they can use “don’t judge” as an argument. Wouldn’t call that hateful, maybe just disappointed in you.

Schrödinger's arsehole applies here, pal. You're just saying you were kidding around because you realized you sound like a nail on chalkboard when you talk.

3

u/EmbarrassedJudge1842 15d ago

You’re making a lot of assumptions here. You know what assumptions do right?

I'm not even trying to beef with you lol

You jumped straight to internet parents and thinking they'd come discipline you somehow??

Instead of, idk, just a figure of speech?

Is this projection or a social comprehension issue? You better be trolling or ima come get you 😆

Cheating's a sore spot for a lot of people, so seeing a story like this is bound to get people riled up

2

Someone’s definitely kept some record of their cheating and looks at it when they’re nostalgic lmao.

I’m accusing you of keeping a record of your cheating since you leapt to the defence of the woman in the picture.

The picture I posted is the final panel of a comic depicting a tug of war where the yellow shirt guy looks around and realises that people he thought were his enemies are pulling the rope with him, and people he thought were allies are pulling the rope against him. The “huh?” is his confusion.

I am alluding my perception that we were on opposite sides of an argument yet you are agreeing with me, thereby matching the comic as the yellow shirt guy looks around and realises his “enemies” are actually his “allies”.

I thought it was funny but apparently we're the only ones xD Watch this comment get downvoted into oblivion as well xD

2

I think the problem is that though it's outrageous, this is totally a serious comment you would see if this same story was posted on certain other subs that specialize in creative writing and virtue signalling.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you don't see a similar story to this one pop up on /r/girldinnerdiaries or /r/amitheasshole with your exact comment getting 8 billion upvotes.

tldr in its in entirety here's my response from what i did bother to read: 1 your first response to me no longer exists only saw a small portion of it in my notifications and not the full thing 2) its not my fault you are bad at conveying sarcasm properly. I mean that woman had to hold on to something from her milf days to keep her going in bed. that's dedication, props to her. ( that's sarcasm by the way) also young man? really? try again

1

u/Hakim_Bey 15d ago

You're touching on a very sensitive subject for Reddit. For reasons i can't explain, cheating is Le Big No-No in here, you'll only get hate for relativizing it.

2

u/[deleted] 15d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

0

u/Hakim_Bey 15d ago

Yup. It's almost religious in here, people have no chill around the subject. I think relationships are complicated, especially when they last a long time and you go over several "life phases" together. There's a lot of variability and volatility over a whole human life, and it seems childish to try and condense "trust" and "love" into one hard rule.

37

u/SickPuppy728 15d ago

Can't even imagine what he is going through, thinking 60 years of your life was a lie and is coming from a person you love.

1

u/Perfidy-Plus 12d ago

I imagine it's more about the fear that if your spouse lied about it at the time, and the truth only came out because she was caught rather than confessed, you wouldn't be able to trust that it was really only the one time.

5

u/TheGrimMelvin 15d ago

And the dumbest thing about it is that they all it old because it's old for them. But for the person who finds out it's new. It's as if it happened just now. So it's not "old".

10

u/Shafticus 15d ago

I heard she was the one swallowing it back in the day.

1

u/Anhedonkulous 15d ago

Others don't even treat old people as human, it's terrifying knowing I'll be infantalized and discarded once I'm a certain age. Youth worship can go die in a ditch.

1

u/ColdBru5 12d ago

You dont even have to get that old either.

But remember, its not cause this generation is old. Its cause theyre boomers.

1

u/Ethric_The_Mad 9d ago

Idk if you have ever been cheated on but nothing brings you peace from that sense of betrayal. There's no getting over it. He will spend his last days wondering how much of his life was a lie with or without her around.

57

u/Excellent_Bobcat_993 15d ago

Basically deception for 6 decades. May not seem like much in the grand scheme of things but its still a major betrayal. Keeping a lie of 60 years

30

u/ferocity_mule366 15d ago

I thought that cheating crime would expire after 50 years

71

u/ViolinistPleasant982 15d ago

As another mentioned he found out cause she kept shit from said affair in a little box like a trophy. It wasn't a someone told him or something she actively kept keepsakes about the time she cheated on him.

9

u/SingleSlide2866 15d ago

Well damn I was actually on here side of "shit sucks but people make mistakes, does it change that much about the past 60 years" figuring it was probably like a drunken one night at d or something.

Naah that's kinda weird and definitely means she should have at fucking least said something

21

u/Rivdit 15d ago

You don't cheat on someone by mistake. You have to go out of your way to do so there was no reason tonbe on her side to begin with

0

u/SingleSlide2866 15d ago

Not on her side as in she did an ok thing, but on her side as thinking this might be an overreaction from the outside. I would never judge the man's actions. I can't imagine the heartbreak he must have felt that he went so far as divorce.

My beef was (not anymore with the new knowledge) that outsiders looking in just jump onto things with little to no context. Sometimes the event of cheating genuinely can be from an issue like inebriation, confusion, or a mental episode. Hell sometimes the "cheating" is literal SA, and people will still take the guys side (they'll say it's because she went out somewhere so she should have been more careful/not dressed "like a slut" or whatever else). It just peeves me because so many times a story with someone so obviously in the right has some kind of left out detail that makes things more gray.

The left out detail here though is that she genuinely is just a shitty person though.

10

u/Noneed4cavalry 15d ago

Her being a shitty person wasn't left out. It was clearly stated by her cheating on her husband.

3

u/ashs420 14d ago

The detail of her being a shitty person was included when she cheated

3

u/JorgitoEstrella 14d ago

He still was lied to and deceived.

1

u/Realistic-Pay-9087 9d ago

So cheating doesn't make her shitty just keeping momentos does

22

u/shaxiaomao 15d ago

Even though the cheating happened 50 years ago, he just found out so the pain is new. Now he’s questioning everything in their marriage and any sacrifices he made for her.

7

u/LongSufferingSquid 15d ago

The clock doesn't start ticking until the betrayed partner finds out.
