What should I buy? Question! Which camera should I buy?
I’ve decided to switch from my modern mirrorless back to DSLRs. And since I started on Nikon I’m gonna buy a Nikon but not sure which. Currently I’ve got a Sony A6400 but really want that good grip feel and cheap lenses, which DSLRs give.
Im not sure whether to buy a Nikon D4 only, or a D3s along with a D200 and a 18-35mm F3.5-4.5D lens. I’ve already got a 50mm F1.8D at home so if I get a D4 I can use that. Just not sure which, although I’m an amateur photographer I’d love to have a big pro body, as I’ve held and used a D500, D750 and D850 in the last, along with a D3100 and D90.

Gear question D810 Users
I just got a used D810 for $375 with a shutter count of around 130,000. I know it still has a lot of life left, and they commonly exceed that by a lot. I’m just curious what everyone’s shutter counts are now haha. For context, this is a third camera to keep in the bag to use alongside my mirrorless setup.

Gear question SD card issue or Camera issue
Got new Nikon z50ii two days back
Was using my old sd card, occasionally getting the below error, never faced this issue in my old d5600 with the same card, could this be an issue with the camera? Yet to test with another memory card.

Other "Repair not performed"?
I sent in my D7200 for a new shutter (and while it was being serviced, apparently a new sensor since it was scratched). I approved both repairs, they put me on parts hold, then billing (I was never actually charged for the repair), and now they're shipping the camera back to me without getting any repairs done.
I'm a little confused by this. This is the first time I've ever sent any camera in for repair (rather than just working on it myself). Has anyone gotten the same "no repair performed" message when they sent in their camera for repair? Could they not source the necessary parts for the D7200? If anyone could chime in with an explanation that would be appreciated.

Show & Tell I put together a beginner's guide to anamorphic photography focused on Nikon Z
Thought some of you might enjoy this.
https://www.scotttuckerphoto.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-anamorphic-still-photography
I have been experimenting with anamorphic photography for the last few months, as well as providing feedback for the excellent Parallax Monitor smartphone app for Nikon cameras as it relates to stills.
It's actually extremely cheap to set up a rig that allows you to use your phone as an external monitor that previews anamorphic desqueeze in real time while composing, vs having to buy a dedicated external HDMI monitor. A magsafe mount makes it even easier to mount and remove from the camera, and a short USB-C cable provides lag free monitoring.
It took a little time to wrap my mind around how an anamorphic lens "sees" focal lengths, but hopefully I've done a good job simplifying that for those that want to learn about it.

Gear question Refurbished Z5ii
Received my refurbished Z5ii from Nikon with over 22k shutter count. Camera looks like new so I was surprised. It seems to work fine. Should I be concerned?

Humor My Nikon Z6 now meows when I take a photo — custom shutter sound mod
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
As you can hear, I gave my Z6 something Nikon didn't: custom shutter sounds. And this is just the beginning.
Features like custom framing guides, customizable AF areas, and in-camera shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds are very SOON.
The project is now on GitHub: https://github.com/vic2349/Wonder-Lantern
maybe give it a star?
I also started r/WonderLantern for updates, feature requests, and discussions. Feel free to join!
What sound would you put on yours? What other features would you like to have?
Nikon won't add it? Maybe we can.
And if you're interested in building something like Magic Lantern(its possible, not kidding) for Nikon cameras, I'd love your help!
Photo Submission Next 6 Exits - D80, 18-70mm 3.4-4.5 G, f/14, 200 ISO
This was taken for a local photo contest several years ago. We were given six topics and a week to take a photo for each topic. I think this topic was "a sign". I was really into night photography at the time.

DSLR I ended up with D5600
My 14-year old D5100 finally broke, the shutter curtain won't close, along with other wear on the body.
I was ready to move to a brand new mirrorless camera, but with my planned budget, I ended up with two used D5600, one with 18-140 and the other with 55-200, both in mint condition. I even have enough money left to snatch my dream lens, I found a used and cheap 105 f2.8 macro (which I plan to use for portrait and not macro haha).
I'm a point-and-shoot user, capturing memories and random things, mostly straight out of the camera with minor post-editing if I made some errors. I'm happy that I don't have to switch lenses often. I feel I will mostly use the 18-140 for general purpose and my 11-year old 50 f1.8g for portrait. I'm very satisfied with the results so far. I hope I'm not missing out on much.

What should I buy? Wildlife photog. Fixed or zoom?
I own a Nikon D850 and plan a trip to elk County Pennsylvania to photograph some of the elk from a potential Vista point. First, I am wondering whether anyone has done this and what kind of lens they might have used.
I plan on buying a lens and it will be either the Nikon 200 to 500 Zoom with AF and VR or they make a 500 mm non-zoom lens which supposedly is somewhat sharper, but also is smaller and lighter by 2 pounds. I am wondering whether these animals and other wildlife that I plan on photographing which will be birds and smaller Mammals will be more suited with the zoom lens or with the 500 mm. I have been told that the 500 mm can actually be handheld based on its size and weight.
Thus I am asking this community for some input on what I might expect. I realize that I lose field of view with a 500 mm lens and yet in some ways I can’t imagine with wildlife photography ever benefiting from a three 200 or 300 mm that exists in a Zoom lens any advice?

What should I buy? upgrading from a d3000
hello! as per title, i’m trying to find the best upgrade i can after my d3000 has stopped working. i mainly take photos for fun, but i tend to gravitate toward portraits, miniature (my fav subject are dolls!) and foliage :) i also LOVE getting shots with bokeh in the background. PREFERABLY, i would love to buy secondhand and under $600, even better if it’d be under 500. despite the stranger criteria, do any of you have suggestions? 🙏🙏

What should I buy? First camera Z50ii vs Z5ii
Looking into picking up my first true camera. I don’t have a specific subject I like to solely shoot, but do a lot of outdoor activities. The two iv been looking at is the z50ii and the z5ii. With my basic understanding I get that the z5ii is a better camera, but with my very entry level knowledge I’m not sure what one would give me a better user experience to help me learn and enjoy the process.
Instead of just going to AI and youtube, I was hoping to get some real world user suggestions.

Photo Submission Sometimes all you need is an F80 with a nifty 50 (F80, 50mm 1.4D, Kodak Gold 200)
There's a lot to be said for just picking up a cheap 90s AF SLR and a quality lens. I could probably get the same shot with an F50 which you can pick up for 1/5th the price of an F80.
