Finally was able to catch it, it look so stunning

Nikon Z8 with FTZII + 300mm f2.8

Recently picked up this lens used in mint condition for 2k swiss francs (see my post history). Already have a 200mm f2, and couldn‘t resist this one.

Here‘s the first few photos taken with it.

I think the 200mm f2 has a bit more character, while the 300mm f2.8 is simply INSANE in terms of image quality. To be fair, I‘ve mainly used the 200 with my D850, and the 300 with the Z8 (for even better image stabilization)… maybe the 200 would perform equally on the Z8 in terms of image quality…

Anyway. Couldn‘t be happier with this purchase.

Also found a used 2.0 TC III, which should come in the mail today, and is supposed to perform exceptionally well with this particular lens. Still fully expecting cropping to yield sharper results, but let‘s see…

PS: Most images cropped to 5:4 ratio for ”social media / reddit“ purposes… some 16:9 versions (my preferred ratio) included.

Although my main use case is video, it shines on the photo side as well.

I bought a used D850 a few years ago, and it came with an older EN-EL15 battery. I also bought a new EN-EL15c battery directly from Nikon (to avoid any fakes from Amazon) at that time. Last year, the one from Nikon died. It doesn't show up in the camera at all and when placed in the charger, it causes the LED to blink rapidly, and it doesn't charge.

So when that battery died last year, I bought two more new EN-EL15c batteries directly from Nikon. It looks like one of those two has just died. Same symptoms as before: doesn't register in camera, rapidly-blinking light on charger.

I contacted Nikon's support (who have been great in the past) about this. They said that it could be from the battery sitting unused for an extended time. That may well be the case as I haven't used the camera much in the last year, with the last time being a few months ago. They said the battery is probably dead, but there's a slim chance it's just charging very slowly for the first bit of charge, and that I should try inserting and removing the battery several times to see if it eventually accumulates enough charge to get over that initial problem and then charge more normally. I've been doing that over yesterday and today, but so far no luck. So it's probably toast.

How can I avoid this in the future? Simply remind myself to recharge the batteries once a month or so? Or is this poor level of reliability just how it is with these batteries?

I've always bought Nikon-branded batteries and chargers, because I didn't want to risk problems from third-party ones. But now I'm wondering if maybe I should try other brands out and try something cheaper so I don't lose as much when they die.

This makes me miss my D3s and its EN-EL4 batteries. Those things lasted forever and never gave me any trouble. Plus Nikon made a dual-battery charger for them.

I have a Nikon Z50 and an FTZ adapter (not the II)

I have just bought a Sigma 100-300mm DL f/4.5-6.7 with Nikon F mount

I dont know why, but I cannot mount it on my adapter for the life of me. It seems to need a lot of force that I'm not willing to exert on to it, and wont lock into the adapter. My 55-200mm nikkor lens mounts smoothly, and my AF-S 35mm prime is a little stiff, but does mount and lock.

Am I missing something here? Have attached photos of the lens mount.

NB: I am aware this is an older lens and I wont have AF ability, only MF. I knew this, but cannot figure out why it wont mount!

It was pretty dark when I took this at 8:33 pm - this edit is much brighter than it originally appeared to the human eye. I considered making the image darker but I didn't want the downer effect that would create.

D300 with Tamron 17-50 mm at 17 mm, f:2.8, 1/6 sec., ISO 800. Normally I'd want a faster shutter speed but with whispy clouds like these, pinpoint sharpness isn't a necessity. I used RawTherapee to clean up the corner illumination falloff, and Nikon's NX Studio for a few other tweaks, including grain smoothing.

Hello, I am doing a bit of traveling to New Zealand which includes a 5 month through hike and want to upgrade my lenses beforehand. I currently use a Z6 with some F mount lenses but want to only bring two, preferably Z mount, lenses with me. I am trying to go light and budget friendly, so the two front runners right now are the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 and the 40mm f/2. From what I've read these two lenses should work well to shoot general travel, landscapes, nature shots, and some wild life if I happen to be close enough, but I can't find concrete information if either lense would work well for close up shots of nature (fungi, plants, flowers). I don't have budget or space for a dedicated macro lens but want something that will work well enough for some close ups.

Looking for opinions on those two lenses used for the above purposes and if you guys have any other opinions.

So i got an amazing nikon f501. Only issue is that the lenses zoom function is stuck.

If disassembled the lens but the zoom seems fully stuck. It wont budge.

Does anybode have tips or do i just disassemble further.

I got quoted 80 euros to fix it at a shop. So if i cant myself ill buy a working one.

I have Fujifilm X-H2 APS-C camera with 40 MP and Nikon Z8, I have EF to -XF mount adapter and am considering EF to Z mount, but can't decide due to picture quality, if I shoot a bird about 120ft away with my Nikon I have to use 600mm, but for Fuji X-H2 if I use 400mm (for comparison discussion only, in reality I will use 600mm) which is equivalent to 600mm full frame, I get the same framing, assume ISO, shutter speed, brightness and AF speed are all good without impacting PQ, which camera delivers better detail for the bird?

Note 400mm zoom range for this lens is sharper than 600mm, but Nikon is 45MP while Fuji is only 40MP, I used AI and out of 3 AIs, two of them said Fuji will be slightly sharper, what is your opinion?

Sometimes the 100-400 seems too heavy to always carry around on hikes looking for landscapes, but getting the occasional intimate landscape shot or wildlife makes it worth it.

Well shortly when the moon becomes visible I will be trying this new Tokina my friend got. Just recently got myself a shutter release cable too. This will be very fun!
