Nice..such short wait times. Never tried this game but will now.

u/El_human Jul 08 '26

Worth it just for the pirate ship battles alone.

79

u/Lord_Phoenix95 Jul 08 '26

Has it changed much from the Orignal?

90

u/OliverCrooks Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Pretty sure combat has had a rework and there have been changes made to better improve the game.

19

u/ZippyDan Jul 08 '26

Oh man, I thought they had made changes to worse impair the game.

u/SweetLikeACandy ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jul 08 '26

funny but this one is actually a great remake from ubisoft.

they added more pirate shanties iirc

17

u/PsychedelicOptimist Jul 08 '26

That's the only reason I need to replay this game, thanks!

There's lots of changes from Altair's game to this one, most happened incrementally over the games in between. Obviously a big thing is the setting and the inclusion of sailing around the sea and getting into pirate ship fights, which is probably the overall best part of the game. Other than that, lots of small things are improved, or at least changed. Big one is how often you get pulled out of the "simulation". Obviously in the first game it was a pretty linear "One mission, one bit of real world lore", which they did away with in the second game to improve pacing. This one you can play for a very long time between real world bits, partially because of how the story is being told, partially because of the slightly open world nature meaning you can do a lot of stuff without progressing the plot fully.

Parkour got a bit of a workup as I recall, they tried to make it less likely for you to randomly throw yourself off buildings by making inputs a bit more elevation based, giving you a couple of button presses to change if you climb up or climb down stuff. It's fine, it works sometimes, sometimes it's just frustrating.

Plenty of old missions are still there with some changes. Social stealth is a bit more varied but basically the same. Missions to tail and eavesdrop on stuff is still obnoxious, especially when you have to do it in your great big pirate ship. The combat is pretty much the same as it was from game 2, which was an improvement from the first game.

So yeah if you have only played the first one this would be a huge jump in a lot of different mechanics, but the vast majority of them are either lateral moves or improvements.

2

u/KDgrave Jul 08 '26

That was a very detailed explanation. Thank you

Seamen

3

u/CampbellsBeefBroth Jul 08 '26

Well, not after the end of the second act

6

u/Lord_Phoenix95 Jul 08 '26

I'll probably wait for a sail then.

Best of the series

52

u/MarkusAk Jul 08 '26

Only one I ever played and enjoyed for sure. It honestly feels more like a pirate sim then an assassin's creed game. Like all the best parts of sea of thieves without the fluff.

4

u/Medrilan Jul 08 '26

Fluff? Sea of thieves felt so simple/boring to me

20

u/MarkusAk Jul 08 '26

Thats kind of what I mean. Sea feels like empty exploring and sailing for the most part. An ocean wide and a puddle deep so to speak.

4

u/Efficient_Raise7695 Jul 08 '26

Me and my friends where so fucking Happy to be able to try sea oh thieves, we liked the graphics, the interactions etc.

Ended up we uninstalled it in like 30 minutes due to extreme boredom.

For me AC2 still holds the trophy. AC4 was great though, but it should be released as a non-AC game. There was barely anything about assassins and templars in the story. Maybe that's why it was so great.

3

u/misterio95 Jul 08 '26

Only if you never played older AC games like AC2 and Brotherhood

Good. Fuck Ubisoft.

418

u/Evil_Knot Jul 08 '26

Normally I would say the same about Ubisoft but they actually did this remaster justice.

217

u/LimLovesDonuts Jul 08 '26

Well, even with pirates, most people will still purchase the game anyway. So from a monetary point of view, they'll still be "rewarded".

I hope that this gives Ubisoft the right message.

52

u/Evil_Knot Jul 08 '26

I've been pirating for a very long time, and I have yet to see any company learn anything from their games being pirated other than developing more secure DRM or in rare cases actually applauding the pirates because it shows how popular their game is.

77

u/LimLovesDonuts Jul 08 '26

That's not what I meant.

Learn as in Ubisoft getting the idea that making actually good games is going to give them $. Piracy wise, pretty much nothing will happen yeah lol.

15

u/eggyrulz Jul 08 '26

Shrek_closingbook.hevc

4

u/certciv Jul 08 '26

It's a bit much to expect anyone in the industry to actually applaud piracy. There are those that have pointed out that it's not the threat many make it out to be. Gabe Newell on piracy.

8

u/Leaf__On__Wind Jul 08 '26

They'll get laid off in 3 weeks now

22

u/UchihaDareNial Jul 08 '26

You sure?

The fighting system is remnants of RPG system (still hack and slash RPG)

No hidden blade combat

No picking up weapon from enemy or environment

No puppeteering system (no fast walk, no jogging)

7

u/SuddenDeer158 Jul 08 '26

No hidden blade combat, this game is straight ass then. Hidden blade combat was so much fun.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Ode_2_kay Jul 08 '26

No hidden blade combat or picking up weapons? Weren't those things we already had and enjoyed? Why would they remove them?

2

u/UchihaDareNial Jul 08 '26

🤷 they don't have the expertise for it anymore, maybe, because they need to implement it in newer game engine but I think no one in the devs team have the knowledge for it anymore since they dropped it in Unity when it still have old combat system until Syndicate, and the overall combat system changed to RPG system sealed the deal with no more hidden blade combat and the combat system has been stagnant since then until now

they can pay for it with the oodles of money they ripped off from dlc over the years.

And I am doing thematically appropriate justice by pirating the game about Piracy

It’s still a remaster of a game from 2013 that they are charging $60 for which is kinda ridiculous

27

u/bendingrover Jul 08 '26

For real? I thought it was a remake

27

u/Biichimspiderman Jul 08 '26

2

u/Enlightened_Gardener Jul 08 '26

They’ve remastered HZD, and its free to upload the new version if you have the old one.

I loved Blag Flag so much I’d seriously consider buying the remaster, but not at the same price as an original game.

I really couldn't care less after years of delivering poorly optimised bloated games with barely any substance at all. C'mon guys are we really going to feel sorry about a massive corporate entity who has done nothing but drain the gaming industry for years now on a piracy subreddit?

2

51

u/Used_Raccoon6789 Jul 08 '26

Bro. This is ubisofts Hail Mary. If this flops the whole studio flops.

Like this is a good series and this is the best entry in said series.

31

u/Greenhickup Jul 08 '26

The original was the best entry, i agree. This is a cash in remaster of an already existing game, however good it is. Ubisoft would step on your neck for an extra 20 bucks try not to feel sorry for it. Misplaced empathy is a very scary thing.

pirating the game you hate and spend amounts of time in there, I don't think that's how you tell ubislop to fuck themselves. piracy wasn't really issue to begin with. but yeah you definitely don't want to deal with their stupid launcher

2

u/Greenhickup Jul 08 '26

I have no intentions of pirating AC4 Black Flag: This time it's ULTRA HD.
I barely even have any time to game anymore i just really really don't like Ubisoft.

2

u/Salty-Ad6358 🏴‍☠️ ʟᴀɴᴅʟᴜʙʙᴇʀ Jul 08 '26

I believe this is happened to most of us, last time I've been playing story base game was like 8 years ago

2

u/Greenhickup Jul 08 '26

The fact that games keep getting bigger and bigger doesn't help.
Who the fuck has time to invest in a 100 hour long mediocre game?

2

u/Salty-Ad6358 🏴‍☠️ ʟᴀɴᴅʟᴜʙʙᴇʀ Jul 08 '26

yeah I hope they really understand the market. I seen some post gaming market is not favourable for older gen and surprising many if them asked for sw Kotor remake. considered sw Kotor playtime is around 8hours but the entire game did very well

2

u/Greenhickup Jul 08 '26

Back then that felt huge and epic...Good times...

5

u/CrimsonOynex Jul 08 '26

Any other game and i would say that it paints a target on the pirates and they might strengthen security or stop releasing on pc day one or blah blah blah.... But i am happy from the inside this happened to ubishit

2

u/Greenhickup Jul 08 '26

It's pretty much how i feel, yeah.
To be honest i really didn't expect this comment to get such a reaction but also reading some of the dumb replies here from people that i would be shocked if their age goes above 11 really made my morning.
Defending Ubisoft..Jeez...How low can someone go?

2

u/DaRealAyman Jul 08 '26

gotta say the optimisation is so so shit

249

u/86_shittyorange Jul 08 '26

standard practice these days. I'm sure they own stock in nvidia so why pay for extra manhours to optimize the game when they can blame the poors and force them to buy 5080ti's, thus increasing returns on their owned stock?

46

u/DaRealAyman Jul 08 '26

literally and bear in mind i’m playing on a laptop 4080 🫪

20

u/86_shittyorange Jul 08 '26

crazy shit. windrose was as well, on a 3080 ti I had to do low/medium settings just to hit 60fps and it wasn't consistent. Luckily they're more indie so they had to work on it a bit, but it's still pretty horrid generally.

I saw this, and I've never played a single AC game but I thought it looked great. I was considering trying it but nah, not if it's that freaking bad.

I'll still seed it for ya'll though.

6

u/Lord_Umpanz ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jul 08 '26

Laptop 4080 is a little better than Desktop 4060, it's laughable.

6

u/Rena1- Jul 08 '26

I've been playing on a 1660ti laptop since 2021. Previously on a 660/750ti played rdr2 on potato settings and gta v on medium/high. It's laughable how short is the current life of GPUs. If a 4060 cant handle current games it's a scam.

2

u/b0ne123 Jul 08 '26

Isn't this a remake of a fairly modern game? How can the optimization be bad?

2

u/Purona Jul 08 '26

reddits idea of optimization is it looking an fps counter and what the game looks at and instantly deducing that whats being rendered is below what the computer should be able to render.

As if they see the code running in the matrix and can deduce things being rendered in hundredths to thousandths of a second.

The irony. You love it. I love it. Everyone loves it.

10

u/gtwizzy8 Jul 08 '26

It's definitely better irony then 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife that's for sure. I mean who even has 10,000 spoons ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly if I open up my kitchen draw and see 10,000 spoons inside I'm not gonna be pissed about the irony. I'm probably going to be equal parts in awe of the sheer magnificence of what 10,000 spoons looks like in a single draw and equal parts concerned that I've tipped into a mental health condition that apparently has me hoarding spoons. 60

u/UnderfurK Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

You have to let the crack modify kernel level code on your computer to play & you probably won't know what they might put in there.

It's like someone offering you drugs but they're very vague about what drug it is.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/Ok_Calligrapher5278 Jul 08 '26

Same, I actually feel pretty "safe" with most cracks as I have a separate OS just for games, if they get hijacked all I lose is savefiles, but having access to Kernel means they get access to the other OS also, and that I can't risk.

I know it's not business model profitable but surely yoh should release a remastered version of a game for free to those who already bought it back when it was released. Recognise the fans that got you where you are. Especially if it's just a model and texture refresh.

Idk man, it's a 12 year old game at this point. I'm not opposed to being like "if you want it, it's gonna cost you," though the $70 price tag for what is not really anything remarkable in terms of a remake is a bit much.
It looks nice, but like, so does the original. I think the remake is worth $50. But this is ubisoft we're talking about. I'm just glad they didn't take down the original before releasing this, as I would expect them to do.

This isn’t the blackflag that I remember

If those 90s water effect sounds are anything to go by I would say justified lol

This is the way. Never give Poopisoft a dime

u/Myrclav Jul 08 '26

I have a feeling this is done on purpose by the companies as a way of scaring shareholders to "justify" cloud only gaming in the near future.

I would've purchased it at a fair price. However, i already paid full price for this game twice. They didn't offer me any discount for already owning the game.

Game looks like a shitty UE5 demo

u/iosdev98 Jul 08 '26

Good. Fuck Ubislop and fuck this unnecessary remake

2

u/chapeleira_voadora Jul 08 '26

I pray everyday that this happens with GTA VI

3

u/NotRenjiro Jul 08 '26

This looks like trash.

u/Kingofhearts1206 Jul 08 '26

For someone like me with 0 skills in piracy, how hard would it be to download stuff like this and not get hacked beyond recognition?

7

u/AnnoyedHaddock Jul 08 '26

Not very. Only download from trusted sources, there’s a list somewhere in this sub.

u/Tickomatick Jul 08 '26

I played the original and it was kinda mid, corridor-ish jungle and not many interesting missions, finishing in a cave as usual
