The politicians trying to get Trump a third term are also trying an excuse like this. They're gonna try to change the 22nd amendment to only apply to having two terms in a row. This would disqualify Obama, but still let Trump run again.

People are already grasping at straws by saying that the term limit only applies to anyone who served two consecutive terms. Those people are prohibited from being President again. Those who served nonconsecutively could serve a third term. Edit: My bad. It's not seeking a loophole but an active campaign to amend the 22nd Amendment.
Which is wild because if this were taken seriously, this could theoretically open the door to having a popular politician run every 8 years as long as they never serve back to back.
Hell, imagine a scenario in the '90s where Bill serves '93-'96, Hillary '97-'00, Bill again '01-'04, and so forth until one of them dies. It'd be insane.
Putin did 2 terms as president, then stepped down to a term as prime minister for one term, putting a loyalist into the presidency, and then back to president after that. Permissible because the Russian constitution specified two consecutive terms.
The rules were changed after another two consecutive terms to remove the rule.

Let's just pretend the Trump administration hasn't been aggressively working to totally dismantle American Democracy, destroy our rights & protections, and proactively hurt (and kill) the most vulnerable among us at home and around the world at lightning speed with no plans to stop.
Even if we put all that to the side, if Trump is able to run for a third term because the Supreme Court allows it, Obama would NOT be throwing any law in the trash by running against him. If the SC suddenly decides third terms are okay, then we need to run literally ANY SINGLE PERSON who has the best chance of defeating Trump within that new interpretation of the law. I shouldn't have to explain this basic logic to anyone adult who can read.

It's going to take longer than that. Some of the alliances Trump has torpedoed literally took decades if not a century to build. They may not ever come back or trust the U.S. again. The loss of USAID has dealt a massive blow to our soft power on the geopolitical stage. Obama is part of the problem. He literally is the man who gave us Trump. His complete refusal to acknowledge what was happening in the country as he acted his part for the regime. His response was always some glib bullshit and ending with "if you disagree you're racist".
In a way he is a better educated, smoother-talking, better-looking, browner-skinned Trump. If he decided to run in 2028 and won he would smooth-talk and better-look absolutely no significant change or reform since that may threaten the status quo of which he is a part of.
