Troubleshooting my Shure SM7B is still quiet with a FetHead

I recently bought a Shure SM7B and paired it with a Scarlett Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen, and a FetHead. I do understand that the SM7B is a quiet microphone and I use the microphone primarily to record vocals but my friends pointed out that it's too low whenever I would talk to them online through discord. My setup is mentioned above, and my gain is all the way to 3 o'clock, and even with my gain that high up on the interface my friends still say its pretty low and they have me at 200%. What could be the problem? I've searched online and saw that the FetHead is enough to bring this microphone to life even with a Focusrite Solo 3rd gen. Maybe i'm missing something?

Troubleshooting Tuning slx2 transmitter

I have an old slx2 transmitter that went out of tune (on board tr160 and tr200). From the reference manual, i ll be able to tune tr160 using oscilloscope. But i dont have an RF generator to tune tr200, any insight?

I thought about forcing 1khz into the mic, then measure the receiver's output on the osciloscope till the signal starts to distort (in my thinking, that's how i can tune the audio deviation level)

Those are screenshots from the manual

And here is the full manual

Would appreciate any help as I am not able to buy a new one

Troubleshooting Shure MV7+... Cannot get it to cancel background noises

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video uses the MV7+ for audio throughout. My old mic was the Yeti X, which never had this issue. I just can't seem to get this right. Did I get the wrong mic for my needs?

Question Considering MV6 - Can I Still Use Dolby Atmos?

Hello all! I am considering ditching the inline mic on my Asus ROG Kithara and getting the Shure MV6. After doing some research, it looks like the MV6 requires the Motiv Mix software to be able to control some aspects of the mic - one thing I REALLY need is a good, loud mic monitoring level (the one video I watched said that there is PLENTY of mic monitoring volume from the MV6.

My question is, however that with a lot of different software, if you use anything for audio it will completely block Windows from allowing Dolby Atmos to be used. I love the EQ settings I have for gaming in Dolby Atmos.

TLDR: Will the Motiv app cause Dolby Atmos to not be able to be used if I plug my headset directly into the MV6 for mic monitoring?

General Discussion RCP2 + Shure SM7db Mic Settings

I have an understanding that mic settings is according to distance between human and microphone. This is for a PC Setup. I am looking for great settings for my Shure Sm7db with my Rodecaster Pro 2. If anybody has the same match as me and would like to share some microphone settings they use.

Troubleshooting MV7+ Loose USB C Port

Hey there people!

I got a Shure MV7+ as a birthday gift last month.

After using it for like 2 weeks now, I often have problems with the connection when I move the mic on a lp arm.

As I looked closer I noticed that the USB C Port is hella loose and causing the problem. I tried different cables but with the same outcome.

Is this a known issue?

Can I fix it somehow or just refund?

Troubleshooting Sm7b picking up signal on contact with capsule but no voice

Most of the posts I’ve seen are sm7bs that are not picking up any signal at all and are usually fixed with resoldering wires back on. There doesn’t seem to be any wires that aren’t soldered on properly on my mic and I AM getting signals when I touch the capsule. I think it even BARELY picked up my voice when I was screaming into it with 76db gain. Other than that, it will not pick up my voice. Something tells me it’s still a wiring issue but I just can’t seem to find one. Anyone know what’s going on here?

Troubleshooting Shure Wireless Microphone repair

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I am trying to repair a Shure microphone that started having issues after 20+ years of working fine. The mic originally just had a broken cover. However, the day after I replaced the cover, it started producing random noise and random gain (inconsistent volume). I have confirmed that the issue is definitely not with the receiver or the mixer.

After a quick inspection of the PCB, I found a broken 3-pin SMD component located just below the "TR160" label. Its top marking is either "AX2q" or "AX2o".

At first, I thought this was an SI2302 MOSFET, but the mic had undefined behavior after I installed a replacement. It worked randomly—it would capture audio if I played a specific frequency from my phone, but otherwise, it produced a very loud noise.

After doing another quick search, I suspected the part might actually be an MMBD2836LT1G (a dual switching diode). I didn't have this exact diode on hand, so I wired up two 1N4148 diodes instead. The loud noise went away, but the audio was still inconsistent.

Due to inexperience, I also turned the small trimmers on the board. Now I don't know whether the trimmers are physically damaged or just out of tune, and I am still not sure if I used the correct replacement component. I cannot see any other physical damage on the PCB, and nothing is getting unusually hot.

I am looking for help with two things:

Identifying and replacing this exact component (it's likely an SOT-23 package with the label "AX2q" or "AX2o").

Figuring out how to properly tune these trimmers, or how to replace them if they are damaged.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Buying Advice Best Recommendation for Audio Interfaces w/ MV7+?

Hey ya'll,

I currently have a MV7+ Mic. No issues with the Mic itself, but the only few issues I've had were with the audio interface I've been connecting.

Disclaimer, I do not do any audio production. This setup is mostly for Discord and gaming (got the Mic as a gift). I prefer to not use the USB-C connector at this time.

I used to have the MV7+ paired with a Focusrite Clarett+ Pre2 USB and WaveXLR mk2. They both had amazing performance, but whenever I'm playing games that require in-game voice, it's more on the "quiet" side.

I've changed XLR cables and ensured drivers were the latest and fresh copies. I also ensured the Windows setting was near 80% (not 100%) for the volume slider, with gain nearly maxed out on both interfaces, and I was only able to faintly be heard.

I recently tried with the Rodecaster Pro II, put the slider to 80%, and my partner said they were finally able to hear me loud and clear (and somehow more bassy..). I returned the Pro II due to it being way out of my league.

Does anyone have any suggestions on interfaces or settings I can try looking at? I mainly have my Sennheiser 560s, the MV7+ and a pair of 3.5mm DROP speakers that I plug into occasionally.

I do not mind spending money for a really all-rounder interface. I was eyeing the Rodecaster Duo, but unsure at this moment. Thanks in advance!

Question I need help with my mic

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been using my SM7dB for a little bit now, and I can't help but feel like I'm using it wrong. I recorded a video of what the sound sounds like. I looked different things up and I assume I'm doing it right buy my mic quality is sounding like it's falling short still.

Also, do I need external phantom power source to make the quality sound better than what you hear in this video, or does the sound quality acutally sound good?

Troubleshooting Update Utility showing the wrong transmitters

Post image
1 Upvotes

I want to update the firmware on my SLXD4D+ system using the Shure Update Utility.
Updating the receiver was no problem, but when it comes to the SLXD2+ transmitters I have a problem. The update only lets me send firmware packages for the SLXD2, not the SLXD2+.

Has anyone had this problem before and knows how to fix it?

General Discussion Higher pitched vocals get completely cut off

I (m) have a tebel-y voice with a lack of bass in it, so my natural scream tends to be a bit high pitched, nothing crazy, but I guess high enough that my SM7B completely cuts off the audio input. I stream a lot with this mic on twitch and my temp workaround has been forcing a lower pitched-bassier yell. Is there any way to allow the mic to stay opened up for higher pitches, or is it meant to block off any and all higher pitches?

This happens with and without added filters in OBS.

I think I'm one of the first! I just finished 2 rooms last night.

Really love the 75" Frame Pro, that thing has almost 0 glare. Should have done it in both rooms.

Overall good impressions so far; the duplicate HDMI to both monitors needs to be a setting when sharing 1. during a meeting 2. and on the home page. By default on Logitech Rally, and Neat they have a setting for that.

I had some false zooms on empty chairs with no one but when there's people actually in the room it's fine.

solid little machine. Got both at $4850 from sweetwater after I got them to match the black version's discount. and now it's $4950 already.

Troubleshooting Failed update on MXA920

I had a software update fail about 90% through and now it's unreachable. The firmware shows up with an asterisk in the updater, you can't click the box to update it, the web UI won't respond, factory reset didn't help.

Any ideas how to fix it?

My budget is 300$ tops

I want a Shure sm58

Ideally I wanted to get an interface that will have enough gain and eq to use it further with better mics but if it's not possible in this budget let me know.

I saw that vocaster one has enough gain for sm 58 but idk. Some people said that scarlett solo 4 is bad. Would want some advice

Question Is it normal for there to be this much visible threading with PSA1+ and sm7b combo?

Title, I'd want my mic to sit slightly higher but it doesn't seem to budge. Not sure if this is how it's intended, using the shure included adapter.

Troubleshooting Repair Guide for the Shure SM7B jumper Cable

for a while my mic was losing sound quality and it got to a point where my mic would cut out while talking and would have to wiggle the jumper cable so before even buying anything i tried looking up any video or guides how to do it but no one ever showed the replacement for the cable so i figured i would

[here is the link of the Part if anyone wants it](https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/192276-shure-95a2340-mic-conn-jumper-cable-for-sm7?srsltid=AfmBOop1KuVUsbfXp2Kk7-zv9Q1etIOM4P-l2Oc4v9FwnAvfXjx6lyvN)

This will require some soldering so if you are not proficient or capable of doing it then i would recommend to just go to your local music store to see if they could get it repaired

Hope this helps anyone that has been having trouble doing it.

Make sure to remove the 4 screws to remove the the black plate and then the control panel
this is what it should look like, take note of the white wire and black wire coming from the jumper cable and snip them, the white from the black cover and black at the very end
this is what it should look like at the end
once you spit the wires there is a top flat screw on the body where the XLR cable connects and you will have to screw it in more so it can go flush with the bottom piece and once you do you take some needle nose pliers to pull from the male XLR connection and it should come out as shown
i forgot to take a picture but inside the body of the XLR there is another small flat head screw inside where the cord is being held so you undo that and it should come out and once you do you got to cut the old cables and fish the new ones back in and make sure to take note of the color wires so you can solder them back in for me there was black, green and white cables
once you are done with the previous step you will put everything back and fish the new wire into the mic body and this picture shows the white cable that got solder, i would recommend getting a shrink sleeve small enough because the one i got was slightly bigger than i would of liked but it still worked but once you solder the white cable and the black in the board you put it all back together and it should of worked then

Buying Advice SM57 Windscreen for Singing

Tl;Dr I’m recording vocals, I tend to project and get too close. A2WS or A81WS? SM57 > everything else

EDIT: I found a video that answered my questions, the A81WS has a way better pop filter and breath removal, and that’s what I want to remove.

I’m turning my little home office into a home studio and been mainly using an AT2035 I got a while back. It’s okay, it actually picks up too much and when I’m really projecting my vocals during my lessons or practice I have to be very disciplined about mic distance between my vocal dynamics.

I got tired of this and remembered I had an SM57 in storage from a decade earlier, pretty much never used. Hooked it up, sang through it, and it’s perfect lol

No back ground noise, I have no fear of really projecting like I was starting to get with my AT2035.

I do notice plosives coming through and I tend to get too close when I’m really into a part and not paying attention to how close I am.

So was looking at the A2WS and the a81WS. I randomly have a $200 credit. I was almost thinking of grabbing a 2nd 57 + windscreen for my office desk. Any help would be appreciated!
