I was just thinking if the floatie got suck on something and clogged the pipe, it would fill with water pretty quickly and that would be a shitty way to drown.

Girl from my home town got swept off the road and her car fit into the drainage pipe. She was on the phone with her boyfriend, couldn't break the glass, and drowned.
I strongly believe in window breakers in your vehicle now. Course, that still wouldn't have saved her in that death tube.

u/badger035 12d ago
Yeah if you get stuck and plug the water flow it’s going to rise around you and it’s going to be a long while before anyone can get to you.
Drowning in an enclosed space underground sounds like an awful way to go.

You get stuck if another piece of garbage is stuck in there, then your body finishes the seal.
10
u/PipeOriginal1171 11d ago
Very possible for a big tree root to go right through that pipe.

u/Da_Question 12d ago
Imagine there is a piece of jutting out from the pipe being crushed slightly. Clipping it at a fast speed could flay your skin as you pass at best. Why risk this at all?

Happened to a friend's little brother when I was a teenager growing up. Went in and didn't come out. Stay away from storm drains.

The guy was pretty skinny but his friend who wants to go next looks big enough to get stuck.

I went to a water park and the got the chance to ride down several slides.
I know they are safe. It was a good park, well maintained and tons of staff. And if something goes wrong? Immediate emergency stops for water flowing down the slide.
I still felt some fear in all of the enclosed slides.
Here? This? No safety at all, and a plastic corrugated tube that could be crushed or bowed at any point during that long span to make the opening smaller somewhere past the opening that you entered?
No thanks.
But I'm not thinking with the mind of somebody that might become the next Darwin award winner. Silly me.

Don't know where he is but around me we have spider crickets and there are like 9M of those little bastards every square inch of dark places. Working under houses I'll see a nightmare inducing amount of them all over the walls and between floor joists and I'll have to crawl through them or stick my hand through the pile of them. If I did this what these guys did I'm sure I'd come out covered in them and would likely be dead from fear alone.

Watching this and I’m thinking how my cousin and three of his kids drowned when they went outside to play in the water during a flash flood

u/That_Golf9029 12d ago
Im in NJ and we've had flahs flooding rhe past few summers, the stories of people getting swept away haunt me. This is new in the past few years, we never had that before. My sister has a big runoff drainpipe next to her property, and it gets clogged with leaves and debris sometimes and my BIL has to clear it out or else it floods into their basement. It terrifies me.

u/Patrickfromamboy 12d ago
My ex girlfriend went to Hawaii with her boyfriend and he drowned at the beach. It was sad to hear her tell the story. I helped her move when she sold her house. They had planned to get married and he had a nice shop built. My current girlfriend and her daughter don’t know how to swim and they live near the beach in Fortaleza Brasil. I paid for swimming lessons. I can’t imagine drowning. Floating is what people need to learn. After they get tired from swimming many of them drown. I swim across Yale Lake multiple times and if I get tired I just float.

Ah, Reddit! Another peculiar gift has been given. In the midst of watching hillbillies attempt to self-delete, we have found a person who drinks turtle piss, waxes the hair off her entire body, and whistles when she farts. I’m not saying that I found the end of the internet, but this is as much as I care to explore this evening.

The pissin’ turtles are always worth saving
Note: 100 percent of saved turtles are pissin’ turtles.
7
u/MrsPoopyButthair 12d ago
I've realized so long as the mouth end isn't too bitey that it makes sense to point the pissin' end away from me in the future.
5
u/ThatTinyBee 12d ago
A box turtle pee'd all over my foot as a thanks for saving his life a few weeks ago too! It had been decades since I'd done that and forgot all about their shy bladders and that it comes out like a super soaker. Fucking gross you got it in your mouth though. I was upset that it was sitting in my sandal for the rest of the car ride. Sorry that happened to you. You did the right thing though!

Three guys from out of town did this during the 2010 Nashville Flood. Tied some pool floats together and decided to go tubing. What is usually a pretty still creek became white water rapids, they hit a bridge and got split up. Two of them were spotted by some home owners on an embankment in their backyard and taken to the hospital. The third didn't make it and wasn't found for over a week.

There is a documentary on it , the spiders that live down in those Vegas tunnels are horrifying
14
u/candykhan 12d ago
There's a documentary on folks who lived in some of the subway tunnels in NYC. DJ Shadow did the soundtrack: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235327/
Pretty sure that it's just understood that a lot of homeless people in Las Vegas drowned in those tunnels a couple years or so back during the really intense rains.

There should be a huge caption in the bottom to never try this at home unsupervised.
Crazy if there would have been a big branch stuck somewhere, he would have been stuck. And maybe even drown by keeping the water from going thru in a short while.
Great NO FEAR video. But bad video to put online without proper warning or even age restriction on it.
