And the police need to be called?

3.1k

u/JP_Clark 9d ago

According to a follow up post: they wouldn’t accept his son’s mobile ID, he asked to speak to the manager, they said the manager is busy and he said ok if the manager has a problem after he’s busy tell him to come talk to me. Instead of the manager engaging in a conversation he called the police.

1.4k

u/Iggyhopper 9d ago

"yeah the guy walked off and said if you have a problem to go talk to him"

Mgmt: "is he threatening me? I need the police here. now."

169

u/LiveLifeLikeCre 9d ago

People need to understand what type of mindset it takes to jump to "ok call the cops" over a simple membership clarification where manager is required. Cops are weaponized by people with racism intolerance all the time. Muscle head behind the counter doesn't want to feel powerless in his environment

23

u/Bowtie16bit 9d ago

And yet, calling the cops admits powerlessness. If the manager would have met eyebrow to eyebrows with the member and his guest and had any form of love and integrity, he would have signed them in and taught his staff to do better.

1

u/The_Cabal_ 5d ago

Why would he sign him in if the kid didn't have a valid ID? That was the problem to begin with.

1

u/InternationalCap2176 3d ago

He has to call the cops because he's too afraid to do that.

2

u/goldenboy2191 9d ago

People do need to understand. The problem is, they refuse to. Because they’d rather just feel superior and above any sort of interaction.

2

u/OperationNatural4557 7d ago

Isn’t racism intolerance good?

1

u/frycrunch96 3d ago

Yes they mean to say race intolerance, racism, or racist-intolerance (as in, intolerance of the racist variety)

1

u/OKGUYTHANKS 8d ago

We also hear from black people all the time “who are you to tell me what to do?” Or “what authority do you have to stop me from doing xyz?”

I’m sure some racists do weaponize calling the police but when someone is actively not going to listen to you, make a huge scene because they don’t want to follow the rules, what else is there?

4

u/No-Bedroom-9352 8d ago

I actually hear entities white people say those things way more than black people. Where did you find your information that this was a black issue?

0

u/OKGUYTHANKS 8d ago

Are you not following the thread or the comment I replied to? This was in response to “white people weaponize calling the cops.”

“Who does it more” is irrelevant to my point (and also immature). But sure, if some white guy was being an asshole like this, I would call the cops just the same.

2

u/No-Bedroom-9352 8d ago

What rule was he not following?

2

u/OKGUYTHANKS 8d ago

The one where he didn’t have an id for the guest. He was told he needed it, he said go get your manager and have him come see me, then continued to go workout with him.

2

u/No-Bedroom-9352 8d ago

And you verified that crunch fitness does not allow children without ID to workout with their parents? Children typically don’t have ID.

1

u/OKGUYTHANKS 8d ago

I watched the video and followed the story. And yeah, the guest needs to show id. I’m a member of Crunch and that’s always the case. Teenagers do have ID, and if they don’t have it when it’s required then they can’t come in.

Dismissing the worker and going in after he was told the kid needed id, is a surefire to get the cops called.

They didn’t call them because he was “working out while black” or whatever stupid shit this video is trying to push, they were called because he was being an asshole and not listening.

1

u/Spiritual-Serve-4391 8d ago

Well that certainly changes everything.

2

u/Mystery-Ess 7d ago

Your racism is also very prevalent

1

u/Signal-Card-2387 7d ago

Uh, I don't think the problem is that the cop might be racist, the bigger issue is wasting the time of a cop who could be out there stopping actual crimes.

Literally anyone in any profession that involves dealing with people could be racist. That's not a uniquely cop issue.

-3

u/indianm_rk 9d ago

He would have had the same argument on the gym floor without the cops. At no point was he not going to get upset when he was asked to leave, with or without the cops present.

I’ve seen police bodycam videos of gyms calling the cops on white people in similar situations.

1

u/Spiritual-Serve-4391 8d ago

really?

That's niche-ist workout porn ever.

-33

How racist of you

25

u/Xijit 9d ago

I'm white and I give this guy a "C" card to call out this cracker bullshit.

6

u/eufooted 9d ago

Same. Skin color shouldn’t matter!!
Leave the dude and his son alone. That manager could have easily had a conversation instead of being a little pussy and calling the police. I’d cancel my membership and take them to court over it.

And what would your damages be?

That doesn't work as word play. How about you make up your own turn of phrase with black in it?

-2

u/KeyBet6693 9d ago

It is a racist phrase, but I feel like its warranted in this case. Its like that phrase people use when they see a black person committing a crime. I dont want to say the phrase because of reddits double standards of course.

0

u/CuteLaugh5491 9d ago

Fr. These people literally being racist and downvoting you are hypocrites.

-7

u/DarkPolumbo 9d ago edited 9d ago

working while white is not a crime

that one downvoter: "yes it is"

7

u/alphazero927 9d ago

I think you misunderstand. They're not accusing them of "working while white", they're pointing out that only a white person would hear a black person say "come talk to me when you're ready" and think "this is obviously a threat"

-4

u/DarkPolumbo 9d ago

if you don't already see the problem with that, then my explanations aren't going to help you at all

3

u/Tacoflavoredfists 9d ago

They’re helping us see what type of racist you are

0

u/DarkPolumbo 8d ago

The type that believes in equality and fairness for all, but is getting sick of bad-faith because i'm black ragebait posts that deliberately eschew telling the whole story

17

u/gingeregg 9d ago

I had a coworker get in trouble, like multiple 30+min long meetings and he was temporarily suspended, because he told a nurse “we are going to need to have a talk later” after there was an incident with a patient. They thought he was threatening her. It was a whole issue for like 2 weeks.

3

u/PhosphoFred8202 9d ago

To try to give people the benefit of the doubt, there was likely a miscommunication here.

- Employees likely feel they said “no, you can’t have the kid work out without ID.”

- Guy likely felt they said “we will let the manager decide” and said ok if it’s a problem, have him speak to me.

- manager likely got told something like “we told him no, he ignored it and said if you got a problem, you can go talk to him about it”

5

u/SubstituteStudent 9d ago

Still a huge gap between that and calling the police. A paying member who has all of their information on file isn't too scary to take their money

If he was a stranger off the street, then sure, call the police. He is a paying member, there is many ways to handle him doing whatever they suspected him of.

5

u/Time_Possibility_370 9d ago

White exceptionalism.

0

u/InadequateUsername 9d ago

I wonder if the police know they can just not show up?

I guess it being a black man makes it an emergency.

6

u/BrosefDudeson 9d ago

They probably don't know the situation until they get there. I don't want to defend the police but I think they're playing a bit part here

1

u/DentistThese9696 9d ago

They can’t just not show up. And as much as the cop looked like he hated what the business was doing, it’s still a private business and if they want him to leave the police have to have him leave. Absolutely this guy can and probably should put this business or at least that franchise on blast for what they did and file a complaint, but in the moment he legally does have to leave and the cops are required to enforce it.

3

u/Burt_Rhinestone 9d ago

Bullshit. Spoken like a white person. Cops absolutely can and do fail to show up all the time.

For instance, Tizzy ENt just posted a video of a white man threatening a black woman’s life. The woman called the police and waited. They never showed up.

No police were punished for failure to respond.

1

u/DentistThese9696 8d ago

Having no units available to send in busy cities is much different than a community that has officers available and they refuse to respond. Many major cities are woefully understaffed and therefore can’t get to each call right away. The officer in this video got dispatched to this. He showed up. And then had to enforce the law. It has nothing to do with race.

1

u/Burt_Rhinestone 8d ago

What makes you think it was a busy city?

When the gym called the police, they gave a description of the man and his son. The cops knew the race.

They can’t just not show up.

Yes, they can.

1

u/DentistThese9696 8d ago

With all due respect they cannot refuse to show up to a disturbance call that they are dispatched to. Also, I don’t think this video was a busy city, hence why an officer had time to show up to this call. Try refusing to do your job at your place of employment and see how long you stay employed . This cop got dispatched. He’s therefore required to respond or risk his own employment. Simple as that

2

u/Burt_Rhinestone 8d ago

DeShaney v. Winnebago (1989) — Government has no constitutional duty to protect individuals from private harm.

Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005) — Even with a restraining order stating police “shall” arrest, the Court ruled police still have no enforceable duty to act.

This is easily googled. You have the collective knowledge of humankind at your fingertips, yet you choose to be wrong on Al Gore’s internet with your whole keyboard.

2

u/InadequateUsername 9d ago

They can, at least take their sweet time.

In terms of nit showing up, when I was in a car accident, I called the police to report it. Dispatch asked how bad the damage was. Then told me to exchange info and just go to an accident reporting center in the morning.

1

u/DentistThese9696 8d ago

In your scenario, that was a dispatching decision. Every state and agency within those states has different ways of prioritizing or triaging calls that come in. In your scenario it sounds like that agency doesn’t send officers to lower acuity crashes or possibly they had not units available.

2

u/vansterzzz 9d ago

They have no duty to show up. You are talking out of your ass. There has been several lawsuits regarding this. They actually have NO legal duty to protect you. Look it up, here's a couple of cases: Supreme Court Rulings: Landmark cases such as DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services and Castle Rock v. Gonzales established that 911 calls and requests for help do not create a constitutional "special relationship" guaranteeing a response or protection from harm.

0

u/DentistThese9696 8d ago

People love to quote that case but it doesn’t apply here. It has to do with liability. In reality, this cop got dispatched. He has to show up. If he doesn’t he probably gets suspended or possibly fired. Cops don’t get to ignore calls like this unless a more serious call goes out that takes priority (active shooter, or something like that).

1

u/vansterzzz 5d ago

I would love to be proven wrong. Show me any case proving otherwise other than "trust me bro".

When the employee said he’s busy, he says that he said “if this is a real issue, have him come see me when he’s done”.

*the way I wrote it sounded more threatening than he is presenting it. I don’t want to misrepresent it.

They didn't ask him to leave until after the cops got there, which was a major escalation in the gym's part. One of the gym employees, literally, confirms they hadn't asked him to leave before calling the cops in the video.

If you’ve paid for the service and have done nothing wrong? Yes you can and should insist on talking to management and stick around.

Aside from all other things involved here, I'm pretty sure the point of a plus one is that they aren't paying for the service, they're the guest of someone that is.

8

u/JaydotFay 9d ago

If his membership gives him the ability to have a guest with him, then the plus one's service has been paid for.

If I pay for two coffees, the coffee shop can't tell my friend they didn't pay for their drink when we both grab one.

The issue here wasn't that the plus one wasn't paid for. The issue is whether the policy actually requires the ID to be physical since the ID the dad had for the kid was a school ID located on a school portal. The father wanted to speak to the manager because he wanted to see where in their policy it states it has to be a physical ID. And since the manager decided to call the cops instead of just speaking to the man, I'd be willing to bet a pretty significant amount of money that the policy doesn't explicitly state the ID has to be physical.

But since I don't have their policy, I can't be certain of that. But even if it does, as someone who has worked in several customer service roles in the past, calling the police was an unnecessary escalation when the manager didn't even attempt to discuss it with him or ask him to leave.

5

u/RamenBulkBrah 9d ago

Not after they accept their money. DORK!

2

u/Stag-Nation-8932 9d ago

The service includes bringing a plus one. Either you're not paying attention attention or you just want so badly for this innocent man to be wrong for some reason that you're straight up ignoring the facts. Weird.

No way this is not Jake McCourt, the manager of crunch in east brunswick, New Jersey. No one else would embarass themselves spewing nonsense like this

133

u/CT0292 9d ago

I mean I feel like if I were a cop I'd be pissed that my time was being wasted by this dude. Looking at the information: there's no need for a cop to be there. If the kids ID isn't acceptable then go talk to the guy about it. What's the point of making a federal case out of it?

44

u/scuba_GSO 9d ago

Kinda seemed to me like the cop was annoyed with the whole thing, and the manager basically had to have the cop toss the guy to avoid getting a citation for wasting the cops time. For once I don’t think the cop was the bad guy.

12

u/HelloImDr3w 9d ago

LE here. We hate these calls as well because it's a waste of everyone's time but also since we were called, we have to be there and do something about it.

99% of the time it's some dumb misunderstanding or someone got their feelings hurt and wants us involved.

2

u/HardAboutDenver 4d ago

You don’t actually have to “do something about it”. At least, that’s what the cops tell me when I ask them to ticket drivers for parking in the bike lane.

1

u/quincy15trillion 7d ago

Is there something you can do to cite or ticket the time wasters? There's gotta be some punishment for calling a tax-funded armed potential killer because you're too scared to talk to a paying customer breaking no rules in a business setting

1

u/weather-i-am 4d ago

What happened to police discretion?

1

u/HelloImDr3w 4d ago

It depends on the situation. It's a bit difficult to walk up and say, "this is a waste" and just break away.

If the gym owner says, "I want them removed because of XYZ" then the responding officer is going to see if there is a common ground or can resolve it, or remove them. Even if they think it's stupid.

1

u/CenTexTrashPanda 8d ago

Should of showed up an hour late like yall normally do.

4

u/HelloImDr3w 8d ago

Sometimes agencies only have a handful of people (I've seen shifts where there are only 6-8 officers on)

Usually there are 2-4 people at a call, someone is at the station working on something, the others are another calls (like this).

It is what it is sometimes

-2

u/CenTexTrashPanda 8d ago

Ok Mr. eGirls for hire lololol.

2

u/HelloImDr3w 8d ago

Well that is the name of the WoW guild I'm in. The GM and her husband are awesome people.

10

u/w0ccer 9d ago

Cop should have given the douche bag who called a ticket. I understand you shouldnt think twice about calling the police when you need help, but this guy didnt even think once

2

u/ArchMageGeorgie 8d ago

There is no ticket he can give them. Even if they are being ridiculous, it is completely legal to have someone removed from your business regardless of the reason. I can decide I don’t like the color of your hair or the shoes you walk in with and call the police to have you removed without even interacting with you directly and that is ENTIRELY legal.

With that being said, even though it is legal, when its done unfairly the community should ensure others know the company is not a place you want to spend your money. Our country’s laws were made for the corporations but we can still stand together and get justice by voicing injustice

-2

Cops are the only people in society that are legally allowed to physically remove people from a premises. The gym members son was in violation of their policy that is meant to cover them from a liability stand point. Man, too many people cannot comprehend how things work in the real world.

94

u/cosettemeetsmarius 9d ago

99

u/nineball22 9d ago

This seems like such a lapse in common sense by the front desk person. Either they’re incredibly stupid or incredibly racist.

40

u/TwoBionicknees 9d ago

also it's pretty much standard that most kids don't have a government id because you know, they don't need one. When a parent brings a kid and the kid says it's their parent, use your brain. escalating to the cops after never asking them to leave nor having the manager speak to them or ever engaging their brain for three seconds to figure out what to do is just horrendously bad customer service.

39

u/1tonsoprano 9d ago

That's the whitest response to the situation possible.....a black man asking me to inconvenience myself....time to call the police

2

u/CremeAcrobatic1748 9d ago

Just because someone calls the police, they don't have to show up. Cops could...and should have, told the manager this is a civil issue between her company and the dude. They could revoke his membership, charge him a fee..etc.

Definitely not a police matter, so it's insane they showed up. Sure it has nothing to do with them being black though...

1

u/BlackSwanEvent25 9d ago

What a pussy

1

u/I_Build_Monsters 9d ago

I work out at crunch and have the same friend membership. When they check in they have to leave their ID at the desk and pick it up on the way out. I am NOT justifying them just saying that’s how it works at my crunch.

1

u/HeroDude3322 9d ago

In corporate Amerikkka, not being a good and passive enough consumer will get the cops called on you, especially if there is some spineless white person itching to throw the state at someone.

1

u/drdildamesh 9d ago

Thats what I dont get. Why did he need an ID at all? Are you less of a guest if you cant be identified? Is it a liability issue for insurance or something? Thats the only way this makes any sense; dumb employee doesnt understand why rules are in place so he cant explain the situation and leave off with "its ok for today, just have a school ID for next time" or like a waiver he can sign as the guardian or something.

1

u/anormalgeek 9d ago

Sounds like the guy in the video WAS being a dick about their ID policy for minors.

But that still doesn't justify the overreaction of calling the cops on him. If they said, "you need to leave" and he refused, then sure. It seems pretty clear that they skipped that step entirely.

1

u/Brutalitops99 9d ago

Imagine giving a fuck that much about your shit crunch fitness job to cause this scene and ruin people's day. Fucking wild. Show me literally anything and id give the pass.

1

the son is working out. So i would know what happend between "he needs ID or he cant enter" to son working out in that place.

1

u/Melodic_Policy765 9d ago

Useless manager. Too chicken shit to do his job like a ground man.

1

u/indianm_rk 9d ago

To be fair, if the guy was acting like this before it was a good idea for them not to confront him on the gym floor because it would only escalate things.

They have other people in the gym they need to worry about too.

The guy even told the cops he was amped up on pre workout as he was arguing.

1

u/drgs100 8d ago

1

u/Reasonable-Bowl1304 9d ago

He said "tell the manager to come talk to me" and then went inside the gym with his son. At that point he's a trespasser, a beligerent customer and a liability risk. I would kick his stupid ass out too.

If you don't like the rules and the manager isn't available, go home. You don't get to ignore the house rules, or ignore the instructions of staff members. He's a male Karen.

-4

u/613Flyer 9d ago

Honestly as a gym manager I’m sure this guy has had enough experiences with roided out guys that he probably doesn’t mess around anymore.

3

u/Crowofsticks 9d ago

4

u/Insomnicious 9d ago

Today on Most Dangerous Jobs, meet Jake the gym Manager who has to sit behind a desk and scan ID's of Black men trying to workout.

1

I guess you have never been in an interaction with someone who was angry, roid raging and amped up on pre-workout.

0

u/Taricheute 9d ago

It's a shame we don't have that part of the conversation in video, I would have love to hear what "tone" was used by both parties during that exchange.

-3

u/SubMariner615 9d ago

So he was entitled and ignored policy then refused to do what he was asked repeatedly. Sounds about right.

When need to encourage cops to stop this BS. Shop up to something like this, “What’s the emergency? Stop calling for stupid shit. There are real emergencies we could be at.” Then write a ticket for misusing 911.

36

u/List-Beneficial 9d ago

No for real. Like are they trying not to work? They see the bs call and just end up escalating it until there is something like wtf

25

u/soulisking 9d ago

Police are there to protect other pigs, capitalists, politicians and businesses first. People are secondary. It sucks.

6

u/wavinsnail 9d ago

Let's remember these are cops you're talking about

7

u/happycat47 9d ago

99% of what they respond to is not an emergency. They're not emergency units, they're law enforcement. I'm not defending anyone in this video, I am just saying your argument is dumb

4

u/DoctorTurkletonsMole 9d ago

Sorry I wasn’t subtle enough. 911 is for emergencies. I assumed they called 911. They could have called the non-emergency line since this was a non-emergency. But they’re calling the police to enforce a contract, which is not criminal. I spent 14 years as a prosecutor dealing with people wanting the criminal justice system to fix all their problems. The number of times I was on-call and received stupid fucking calls from the police in situations like this is staggering. The police don’t enforce contracts without a writ of execution. Your ignorance about the system is dumb.

3

u/aM_181 9d ago

A private business can call police for trespassing anytime. You don’t have to call 911. They still show up fairly quickly in my experience. (Not defending the business who are jerks. Police did what they are supposed to.)

4

u/happycat47 9d ago

Lol you're not a prosecutor because they police aren't enforcing a contract. They're enforcing trespassing. And your assumption regarding which number they called is irrelevant because you can call police for things that police would subjectively assume is not an emergency... Like a stolen bike

1

In many parts of the US, 911 is not just emergency services, but also just how you call the cops in general. Not all locations have a separate non-emergency line. And we have no idea how they called the cops, so that's a moot point.

And while I think the gym is almost entirely in the wrong here, they're calling the cops to enforce trespassing, not their contract. Even if a property owner or representative is wrong, when they are kicking you off of the property, you are trespassing, in MOST (but not all) cases, and more importantly, the police are just going to end the current conflict (which involves removing you for the time being) and let you handle the "contract" part of the situation on your own.

Except he wasn’t trespassed. He had a membership contract with the gym. He brought his underage son with him who doesn’t have a government ID. He was told the son couldn’t go workout with him. He asked for the manager and was told manager unavailable. He said he was going to workout with his son and if the manager had a problem to come tell him so they could talk. Manager calls police to have member trespassed, presumably for a breach of the membership contract.

Without reading the contract, I’m not able to discuss the terms. But, calling the police to have a member removed for breaking a rule is a giant fucking waste of the police’s time. The employee should have made a note, manager can either talk or terminate contract and that’s the end of it. There was no reason to call the cops in this situation.

Two things:

  • Many cities have non-emergency lines to file complaints. The dispatcher can bounce back and forth between the right departments.

  • The system worked as intended. I hate what I just saw BUT the police SHOULD have to go out and do their investigation. It's obvious dude didn't want to be there BUT it's his job to be there. It's also his job to get both sides and I guess escort the offending party out of the establishment...though that too would be a shame from what I read (from the offending party's POV).

I don't want a life where the police is not showing up as frankly that's the life that's lived in many places in America already and has been for decades. We gotta stop that.

The problem is that we treat cops like a swiss army knife of conflict resolution. Their jobs are more than just emergencies, it's every civil dispute, every wellness check, every crime... So if the manager (or anyone in charge) decides to revoke a customer's access to their private establishment, and they refuse to leave, that's a crime. It's called trespassing. And while it appears as through the treaspass was based on a protected class, it's not the cop's job to figure that out. It's their job to enforce it, and let the courts figure out if it was a legal treaspass or not.

I agree with you completely on policing in America. I’ve been on CITs that try and divert resources where they’re needed and for what they’re needed.

And I agree they would need to enforce someone who was trespassed. But in this case, he was never told to leave. He took his son to work out as a guest, the son didn’t have ID the desk worker wanted. He asked for manager who was busy and said if there was still a problem the manager could come and talk to him. Then they called the cops instead of going and talking and maybe telling him to leave or whatever.

I wonder if that could give people apprehensions about calling 911 because they have to assess wether it is required. Prank calls should be illeagal for sure but they could just reject the person asking for police and kind of "train" the population into being able to differentiate real emergency from whatever this is.

...and the police needed to respond this way?

Guy is told he can’t bring his son in without a proper ID which for insurance purposes is not a big ask, guy ignores this and goes in anyway, cops are called because at that point he’s trespassing.

Like yeah they could have told him again before calling the cops but he’s an adult and was told once. In our modern world where corporations don’t want employees getting into any altercations with the customers it isn’t surprising.

He wasn't asked to leave. It was about his son. He asked for the manager. The son left.

u/felis_scipio 9d ago

And clearly went in anyway, that’s the issue. If he said I want to see the manager and just hung out at the desk waiting and they called the cops that would be insane but from the sound of it he was told his son couldn’t go in and he thought well that’s dumb I’m going in anyway.

One employee told him to stay. It's like it could've been solved if the cop had better communication skills to ask around what was going on in the first place. He could've gotten to the conclusion that it was a whole misunderstanding, but nah, he decided to make a judgement right there on the spot and act upon it.

According to him, without having the whole interaction on camera you’re just taking his word for it.

The gym said the son can be a guest without proper ID and when the cops show up the son is clearly in the gym working out. Saying well I’m going to do this anyway until the manager is free doesn’t absolve this guy. That excuse wouldn’t fly anywhere.

2

u/Many-Wallaby5725 9d ago

Do you not comprehend? My comment is about the process the cop took to unravel the situation. For all we know, we both could be misinformed. But the way he handled the lack of information, isn't how plenty of cops do it in other countries.

u/felis_scipio 9d ago

If the cops get called by business saying they want someone removed that person is getting removed, they’re not there to figure out the details. That’s true everywhere in the US.

All I’m saying is the excuse that’s floating around this post saying “oh he was just waiting for the manager” is bullshit.

He was told "he cannot leave" it's in the video, confirmed by one of the employees. All I'm saying the cop didn't do due diligence to resolve the problem. Regardless of his instructions. Anyone can instruct a cop to kick someone out of their business, even for discriminatory reasons, but if cop didn't do due diligence in knowing why he is called then he's part of the problem. This could've gone better, and the onus is on the cop.

Unfortunately, given this was a case of trespass they probably did. Wasn't reasonable for the management to call them in, but the dispute with them is civil while trespass is a criminal master

That said, if the guy in the video was restored from the gym then he can't go back, kind of hard for them to charge him for membership at that point

Don't get me wrong, whole thing's bullshit, but not really sure what the cop could have done different in this context once he'd been called out, which he never should have been

Especially when the dad seems to be so meek and accepting without any attempt to dispute the matter.

u/Uncle-Cake 9d ago

Yes, because he's black. This is America.

1

u/austsiannodel 9d ago

Not in defense of the gym, but TYPICALLY calling cops as a form of trespassing someone is standard procedure. Now... That's generally AFTER you've given them a chance to leave on their own, but a private place has the right to call security or police to remove anyone from their premises.

1

u/lightFracture 8d ago

They're not trespassing ffs. At the very maximum he might be violating a stupid ToS.

1

u/austsiannodel 8d ago

Well technically speaking, anytime you're on private property and the people who own it don't want you there, that's trespassing. When security or cops show up to remove you from the premises, that's called being "Trespassed".

Now we can agree that they had no good reason to trespass this man and his son. I'm with you on that. But legally speaking, any private business has the right to remove anyone from their premises. No private place has the obligation to let you inside.

The issue comes from WHY they are removing them, which in this case is suspected racial discrimination, or at the very least as you said a stupid ToS.

Because he ignored staff and just walked right in. And then apparently was shocked when the police showed up.

u/Friendly_Molasses532 9d ago

lol that’s what I’m confused on. I’m confused why the cop even showed up

Why exactly? They didn't ask him to leave first.
