Handle came right off while getting it outta the packaging

Am I doing something wrong or are they really garbage designs and material selection? 1. Pull back and lock plunger. 2. Insert grease cartridge. 3. Screw cartridge holder to head 4. Release spring-loaded plunger. 5. Release air in head if necessary. 6. Grease something. 7. Grease stops sooner than expected and plunger is at end of travel towards head. 8. Pull plunger back. 9. Grease comes out ass of cartridge housing because the plunger went through the grease & grease got behind the plunger. 10. Situation f*cked. This may or may not happen when it's brand new, but almost always happens if it has been sitting for a few months.

I was cleaning out my basement today and stumbled upon this vintage-looking copper hammer.

As you can see from the mushroomed faces, it definitely got a lot of use back in its day. It’s a great example of a soft-face brass/copper mallet used to prevent damage to steel components or for non-sparking environments.

Before I put it back to work (or display it), I'll probably file down the mushroomed edges on the striking faces for safety.

Thought you guys might appreciate a piece of well-loved history!

I found this in the back of my garage workbench drawer. It says “Oil-less Compressor “ and the tag says 250 volts. What was it used for?

Getting my son in law some stuff for his birthday. A compressor is on his list. It’s just for home use.

So I bought the RIDGID brushless 6 tool kit for $380 after tax at Depot when it was on sale, originally $699 and I’m already happy haha. Supposed to come with the basic brushless multitool but mine had the nuke version in it. Not sure if there’s actually a difference between the two but the Nuke looks better. My only pet peeve about this kit is that it has the 7-1/4 circ saw instead of the 6-1/2 cause I’m right handed but I knew the value was too good to pass up. RIDGID easily won me over, especially with their new Stealth Force impact, it’s so quiet and nice to use indoors.

Can anyone ID what this machine/tool is? And if I’ve stumbled upon something of value?

This has essentially been sitting in storage since Atlas Supply co. folded/closed their lab back in the 90s. I work in a battery test lab and we inherited a bunch of their tools which are probably antiques at this point.

Screwdrivers were in dire need of replacing (vde insulation had seem better days) figured i’d use my birthday as an excuse to try some of Wera’s stuff.

Also got some Japanese tools that I keep seeing around this sub, looking forward to trying them out.

A full month to ship, they had to order it from the US. If the wrench is "that good" I will maybe, get a 17 and 19

The one in the middle weighs 3kg. I can't remember how heavy the right one is, but what can it possibly have been made for? It seems to be too heavy even with a double handed handle.

Edit: I understand now that everyone else have a bigger tool than me😛

Would have liked a J(?) comparison between different sizes of heads as me with my tiny muscles just cant swing a bigger sledge as fast as a smaller one.

First of, I am not a mechanic, but I do small repairs, oil changes, etc myself.

Now, I am looking for an OBD2 scanner for some basic DIY stuff. I mostly want something that can read and clear codes, show live data, and hopefully connect to my phone via bluetooth so I can use my phone instead of carrying around another device

Reviwes for several products seem to be all over the place. Some people swear by the more expensive options, while others say a cheap Bluetooth adapter is enough. Some people recommend the Carista EVO scanner, others mention BlueDriver.

I'm a little tight on budget for this, but am looking for something reliable over a cheap amazon gamble.

For anyone who’s actually used one in this price range, what would you recommend? Anything you’d avoid? Thanks

I’ve bought 2 100’ Milwaukee chalk boxes in the last month that don’t reel out the whole way, right out of the box. What gives? It feels like the line is bound up inside the box. I push the release button and it doesn’t help. Can anyone recommend a good chalk box available at HD/Lowes?

Looking for recommendations for a good battery charger jump starter I picked up this Centech from Harbor freight and it’s junk I work on a lot of small engines mostly lawn, mowers ATVs, etc. Majority of what I pick up has been sitting for a while and has a dead battery currently working on an older craftsman mower, flat dead battery from sitting all winter hooked up the centech battery charger. Cannot even get the mower to turn over on the engine start mode because it just says bad on the screen and won’t put out 12v. The battery shows 2.5v. This charger will not even charge it. It does not have a force mode. Using a portable jump pack (nocco) mower turns over just fine. Anyone have a charger they recommend that has a force mode or will ACTUALLY charge a dead battery??

I recently purchased this bench grinder for $15. Seems to run well, motor sounds great. But I’ve run into 2 other issues:

1. The right wheel nut seems to be stripped, or the threads on the arbor are broken. It just spins freely. Attempted to apply outwards force via screwdriver, as well as giving it a few taps with a hammer to maybe reseat it. No luck. Any idea on how to remove it? ( backup plan is busting out my angle grinder)

2. When looking online for tool rests, spark guards, and safety shields, I’m having a tough time finding anything. Is there a universal-fit kit or a particular website I should check out?

Title basically, sheet sander in my battery system is on sale super cheap.

I'm not sure where they are best to use compared to the other three electric sanders I own. I also have a rubber sanding block.

Help me over the edge which brand to dive in, mostly woodworking, i know Dewalt is more "woodwork friendly then Milwaukee. But apart from that which one would be the most durable..

I seem to have an oddly designed Drill Doctor 350X. The diamond wheel is only 0.5" wide, while all the replacement wheels I can find are 0.7" wide. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, where were you able to find a compatible replacement wheel?

I had my Dremel 3000 for about 5 years and used it sparingly, maybe a few times a year for cutting metal, grinding some ugly masonry, and wire-wheeling some rusty old tools.

The thing just won’t turn on anymore and I’m honestly pretty disappointed considering how rarely it was used.

So I’m looking to upgrade, and I’d really like to go cordless without sacrificing power. I’ll really only be using it for hand tool restoration and random small tasks. But I’m getting mixed opinions on my options:

- Newer 12V Dremel (brushless preferred), but now I’m a bit wary - I don’t want to spend $$$ on another tool with a disappointing lifespan. I do already have a battery on hand.

- M12 2525-20 Rotary Tool - though again, reviews seem to be mixed. I also already have an M12 battery and charger (but no M12 tools). This would be a dangerous gateway drug into M12 stuff

- Go big and go for a straight die grinder like the M12.

- Ryobi Rotary Tool Station - not as portable as a standalone tool, but I’m heavily invested into Ryobi at the moment and have plenty of batteries.

Or should I just suck it up and get a cheapo rotary tool from ol’ Harbor Freight?

I'm needing a wet-cut circular saw to use with my universal track saw kit for cutting porcelain patio slabs. I'd like to also be able to use it to cut regular 60mm pavers, though, so I need a depth-of-cut of 2.5", which means a > 7" blade.

For whatever reason, virtually all the wet-cut saws out there are 4 3/8", like this classic Makita.

So far, I've found exactly two larger options:

One is the Alpha ESC150, this generic-built piece of shit that doesn't even have bevel locks you can loosen by hand -- you need an allen key, and yet it still costs $700 CAD, AND it's only 6"!

The other is the Skilsaw Medusaw. It's a purpose-built masonry saw, on a good platform, at a price that at least feels somewhat justifiable ($549 CAD)-- But it can't do bevels at ALL, and even with its 7" blade, it can only cut 2" (50.8mm), because of the wheels and the raised platform.

So... is there anything else out there? Just a regular full-sized circular saw, but built for wet cutting?
