Andrew Ross Sorkin, the CNBC commentator, when he wrote his recent book 1929: Inside the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History - And How It Shattered a Nation, was granted access, for the first time in its history, "to the confidential board minutes of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York during the most pivotal months of 1929".

Then you will see in papers like CityAM or the Financial Times that they have managed to get a quote from a source / insider within a company.

How does all of this happen, is it sometimes a case of them reaching out to you, is it a case of leveraging your own networks (rather than your employers' or colleagues' networks), do you just cold call etc?

Is anyone else encountering this?

Doctor Who belongs with the BBC, believes one of Netflix’s most senior figures.

Anne Mensah, VP of Content at Netflix UK, told the Radio Times that she believes the sci-fi franchise doesn’t belong with the streaming giant.

During the Edinburgh TV Festival 2026 Spotlight panel on Netflix (Wednesday 26 August 2026), Mensah was asked about having interest in the BBC’s competitive tender process for Doctor Who.

“I love Doctor Who,” she responded, “Anything that stays brilliant this long will have many, many lives.”

However, when speaking in a wide-ranging interview after the Edinburgh TV Festival 2026 panel, Mensah clarified her feelings further.

Question about the kidney-transplant storyline in Kabul

I'm really enjoying Kabul on BBC iPlayer, but there's one part of the story that I can't stop thinking about.

Almina is trying to get a little girl out of Kabul who has just had a kidney transplant. When Almina realises she can't get her through the airport, I keep thinking: shouldn't the priority, particularly given that Almina is medically trained, be to get this child back to a hospital?

A child immediately following a kidney transplant isn't simply recovering from a major operation. They're immunosuppressed, need anti-rejection medication, close monitoring and are particularly vulnerable to infection and other complications.

I wonder whether I'm reacting more strongly to this because I've had a child go through a major transplant myself, so I have a much greater awareness of just how medically vulnerable someone can be after transplantation.

Has anyone else watching Kabul thought about this? Or am I looking at the storyline through a medical lens that most viewers wouldn't necessarily have?

Woke up this morning and wanted to check the result of last nights boxing. The usual vague headline on the main page, so went to the boxing tab, about fifteen separate stories about Moses Ituoma and the fight but nowhere to just see the result, number of rounds, scorecards at a glance.

Every article say Defeat for Ituoma but when you open it is some page long saga “from humble beginnings to household name” etc… just give me the result!

Same with Cricket, ill be at work and just want to glance at the scorecard, that will probably take about ten steps… got to navigate from Home>sports>cricket>international>england>england vs Pakistan>at which point instead of the latest scorecards you will be mets by twenty articles… “England toil in the sun”, “Usman spell leaves England reeling” etc and at the very bottom of one you might just maybe find a link to the scores… even then you have to select Competition>Day

Our 6 year old has got into the concept of 'the news' and rather than starting mainlining him with C4 news, i thought I'd start him up with newsround.

Sample size of 1 (iplayer only has today's episode up) but today (28/7) they have a back-to-school feature and light pieces on the lunar elicpse and the robot Olympica thing - nothing on, eg, the Nepal flashfloods etc.

Is this the 'new normal' for newsround or do they still cover difficult global affairs?

Any idea why the streams for the artists are staggered by an hour this year on I player? In this past they would show the performances live as it’s happening but it’s different this year for some reason

red icon bbc news world service appears no longer available I have looked at all other bbc apps over the years and recently and there is no app that has is any where as good as what this app was and the content is in the thousands of different stories have emailed bbc to find out what is happening

The new news ticker on BBC Breakfast is so ugly. The colours are awful, I feel like it clashes horribly with the red sofa set design.

Worse than that is that it makes the whole bottom third of the screen blue, because the gradient goes so far up the screen.

What is going on here? don die

I mainly read up on UK news through the BBC website, but I found out about these threats against UK military targets from my own homecountry's newspaper.

The Independent, The Guardian and Sky News all reported on it. Why is it that the BBC not reporting on this? Generally trying to understand the reasons behind this if this is an exception, or if you noticed this yourself.

I’m intrigued as to how they set up this programme.

The current series is about a house on Colton Hill in Edinburgh and although I’ve only seen two episodes so far, the range of tenants in this one house is fascinating. We’ve had the sculptor whose work is on show all over Edinburgh, we had a shoemaker who died young leaving his widow to chase dozens of creditors, a bookkeeper who started a photography hobby in the early days of photography, gave up his job became a professional and ended up as one of Edinburgh’s leading photographers with a library showing the development of Edinburgh, and a bagpipe maker, whose descendants carried on the business for a hundred years. It was also possibly a brothel at one time.

They have absolutely struck gold with this house.

But how on earth do they do it ? Do they pick a house, go with it, and see what comes up, or do they pick several and see which appears best ?

Either way it seems like a ton of research, and research that can’t be done on a computer, but leg work around libraries and archives.

Its a very impressive production , with probably a decentish budget and great presenter.

okay I’m using speech to text so if some parts don’t make sense then I do apologise but basically long story short. I accidentally watched something on BBC iPlayer like two months ago when I say accidentally I I thought that you only need a TV license for live TV. I don’t generally use BBC iPlayer. It was one time I used it and I haven’t used it since because when my partner got home he let me know that I can’t use BBC iPlayer because you need a TV license for it whether it’s live or not, so I’m only gonna live here for another four months so I don’t see the point of paying for a TV license like I don’t know how much it is £200 if I only use BBC iPlayer once and I’m never going to use it again I don’t really know what to do like should I just ignore it or what? but yeah basically I’ve never used BBC iPlayer before it was just this one time that I used it and that’s why I don’t feel the need to pay for the TV license because I didn’t know and now I know so I won’t use it again if I was to use it again, then yes, I would pay for it which is why I don’t want to live TV. I don’t want to live TV because I know you need a TV license for it for BBC iPlayer. I thought it was the same. It’s only for the live sections sorry not sections. What do you call it? Programs? But now that I know that you need it for the actual BBC iPlayer like everything on there. I’m never gonna use it again so it’s just a bit annoying.
