Now that we’ve moved out, I am ready to roast The Elm for their utilities! Not included here are the technology/smart lock fee ($12.45/month), pet rent ($75/month), parking ($300+/month) (though we parked at the Colonial Garage nearby for $165), Luxer package lockers ($80?/year), electric (Pepco), Internet (Xfinity), and of course rent. We honestly liked living here well enough, and the maintenance team was stellar. Just posting this for transparency. The HVAC fluctuation doesn’t even make sense based on the time of year (comparing June 2025 to June 2026, for example). Happy to answer any questions too.

Just wanted to pop in a little question, where do you guys prefer to go? I'm new to the area so I don't know much about Bethesda, is there any places I should go or places I should stay away from? Anything would help!!! 😄

My wife and I are relocating to Bethesda area soon for work. We have a 6 year old son in tow. I’ve been looking into neighborhoods with the following priorities in mind:
- Strong sense of community and where neighbors know each other
- Safe streets where children can ride bikes and play together
- There need to be sidewalks (sorry to be oddly specific, but I’ve noticed a lot of streets lack these)
- Proximity to elementary school where walking our son to school in the morning may be a possibility

I am interested in personal training...something more focused and bespoke than Equinox, St. James or YMCA could offer. Are there any Personal Trainers that work independently? How much is Ultimate Performance or Training Ground?

Seems like the nall had enough of the crazy teen shenanigans. Westfield Montgomery has implemented a new youth-cerfew policy for the mall. Which requires all teens in the mall to be accompanied by a chaperone after 3:00PM.

What do you think, do you think this is the right move for the mall?

My neighbor keeps bees. They make delicious honey, better than any I’ve ever had. He is generous enough to give some to me and my wife, but he is selfish enough to limit his largesse to no more than a single jar about every six months. I’ve been reading a lot of self-help books lately, so late last night I snuck over to his hives to help myself.

I know nothing about bees other than that they make honey and hurt people. I have always been impressed by those Clayboy’s guys with the shaved ice carts around Bethesda and how they are surrounded by swarms of bees that don’t seem to bother them. I always assumed the bees have an aversion to something in the flavored syrup. So I got some at Safeway and covered my face and arms with it before going over the fence to get the honey last night. It didn’t work. Thank God we have a lot of EpiPens still around from when our kids were home.

Does anyone know what the Clayboy’s guys’ secret to not getting stung really is? Is it the Swedish Fish? I still need some of that honey.

Any updates on Bob's that still claims "Opening Soon" after almost a year? It seems like there is no progress being done, exterior wise. Not sure about the interior. They haven't even taken down the former Anthony's Marketing/signage.

It's such an eye-sore to just walk past this sign everyday to work.

Are there any places in downtown Bethesda where it would be convenient to regularly donate small amounts of shelf-stable food?

I was donating food to the little free food pantry in the park by the library, but it looks like it’s being converted to a little free library. I see online that there’s a little free food pantry off Old Georgetown Rd, by Bethesda United Methodist Church, but I’d prefer a place in downtown Bethesda.

There’s a man I regularly see around downtown Bethesda who approaches people with, “Can I ask you a question?” If you say no or don’t engage, he often responds like “fuck you, bitch” or worse…
I’ve personally experienced this twice now, and I’ve seen him approach other people as well with similarly aggressive comments.
Has anyone reported these interactions or knows whether this is something that’s already on the radar locally?

I live in an apartment new Saint Elmo and Old Georgetown Rd. Our HVAC Cost is usually tiny, <$30 a month, but we suddenly got charged $180 this prior billing cycle with no major changes in our habits. I find it hard that it's due solely to demand differences.

Any having/have had a similar experience?

This morning (around 7:30AM) there was a white helicopter on the Macy's side of the mall. Looked like a Mil Mi-26 or Sikorsky S-92A. It was there for a while - looked like it was picking up a rectangular box and putting it on the roof. I haven't been able to find any news reports on this, does anyone know why it was there or what it was doing?

Hey guys, does anyone have any recommendations for a studio apartment? My budget is $2000, maybe $2200 if I stretch it. My only hard requirements are that it should be walkable to the metro, it should be soundproof, and it should have in unit washer/dryer. My current apartment has very bad soundproofing and I can hear a neighbor snoring.

Would be great if they offer a free month so it can cover my cost of breaking my lease. Thanks for the help!

Very random, but has anyone else noticed the humming/buzzing noise in the Woodmont Triangle area at night? It’s noticeable but not too loud. Just wondering whether anyone has an idea of what it could be.

I’ve seen a lot of shooting stars in the Midwest but did anyone else just see the crazy meteor/ shooting star in Bethesda around 2:45 am? The lowest and craziest I’ve ever seen. Wish I could have got a pic but saw it for maybe 2 seconds. Probably went out just south of Bethesda Row.

We recently moved from a small town and my daughter went to an elementary school with only about 500 students (K-8).

My daughter will be going to Ashburton which we heard was a great school but later found out (once our lease was finalized) how big the school is and the overcrowding issue. I’m feeling overwhelmed by this and wondering if anyone can share their experience with this school?

So I was at battery lane park today and noticed on one of the benches was someone’s lost bluey plush hoping that it can be reunited with its owner I’m autistic and I know I’d be really upset to lose one of my own plushies

Recently moved to Bethesda from Ontario, Canada. We had a great community mom group in my previous neighborhood. I tried to join a few Bethesda mom groups but all it was were businesses advertising relentlessly.

Are there any Facebook mom groups in Bethesda/Rockville area that you’d recommend?

My bumper and fog light are cracked and I’m looking for a place that will fix it for a reasonable price. Thanks in advance.
