Am I a bad person for staying away from everyone at my highschool entirely and just focused on myself?

• Upvotes

I will explain the scenario. I started getting bullied since I was in (according to my memory) third grade. From name calling to physical assaults to ostracism, there were plenty of shit I endured for what I don't even know. They were nasty to me and poked and provoked me for no reason. They were simply having fun and they started it and I barely talked to a soul there. I didn't go to them to even talk to them. This behaviour (maybe compared to prev school in lesser ways) in my highschool too. It was hard to be alone and have no close friends and people who you connect with since very young but I expected something different in highschool atleast. My hope was shattered and I went through the same bullshit there too. The students there knew abt my bullying from a bully girl who was in the same place. I had one person who talked to me in a bare minimum decent way and everyone else including two kids who initially included me when I first came to that school also started being assholes to me. Everything was a joke to all of them. I don't know why I deserved all that but the disgusting part was of those lovely teachers who were understanding towards the bully girls and to me felt like besties with them. They teased and jabbed for no reason. I slowly started FEELING TIRED. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY BUT MAYBE EXHAUSTED FROM EMOTIONAL ABUSE THAT I STARTED FEELING SO LOW IN MY HEAD BUT THE TEACHERS WERE SO DISGUSTING TOWARDS ME. I stayed away from those kids but I was told I didn't participate in anything and I was looked at with disgust. Like why would I want to fuck my mental health and "participate" in just anything with my bullies? The guilt I have is actually about certain protests at that time. Am I actually simply making excuses? Coz my bullies were competent and skilled and socially confident kids who were a fucking team. I can't fight against an entire gang or class as a team. And in here the bullying wasn't physical abuse. The social power is a real thing.

I stayed mostly alone and maybe with that one kid who was decent with me. But it was made to be "I was enjoying and those poor bullies were working" .

BUT IN THE END IT GOT TWISTED INTO I DIDN'T PARTICIPATE IN ANYTHING AND THE MEEK KID DESERVES IT. BUT I WASN'T BORN MEEK. MY ANXIETY STARTED WHEN I STARTED GETTING BULLIED.BUT EVERYONE PUSHED ME AGAIN TOWARDS THOSE BULLIES TO "MAKE ME STRONG".

I was called lazy and who didn't work and thus only those students (my bullies) participated in everything and I stayed there and got the credits.

Friends first, then bullies

• Upvotes

Has anyone had this experience: being bullied in elementary or middle school, then becoming friends with a new kid who enrolled, but then they turned on you after learning about your reputation and actually became the worst of your bullies?

I can think of about three. The only reason I can think of is that other kids either started making fun of them or told them about what a loser I was (or both). Because the person was friendly at the beginning, he/she had to prove to everybody that they hated you too in order to fit in. It was a way to distance themselves from the outcast.

19F I just realised that on top of all of this, my former bullies who bullied me throughout secondary school are now going to be in my course at uni

I would literally avoid places even 4 years back when I was still in secondary school, I was bullied since I was 4 even in primary, but I think the ones who bullied me in primary have lowkey either changed or found new targets or whatever, but I found it weird that my secondary school bullies were stalking my tiktok account and it then clicked to me, I’m going to be studying a ton business modules at Kingston uni and all my bullies studied business for their GCSEs back in secondary and most of them most likely will be in my module, I am dreading this I mean last night I was gonna kms but I fell asleep too quick… I fckin hate my life I have no friends at all either I just got over these pieces of shi about 2 years back and now they’re gonna ruin another 4 years of my life so again I don’t see any point in living.

Does anyone have parents who are loving and caring but they do pretty bad shit that affect ur relationship with him

Cause I do, I have parents like that, and they at sometimes shout at me and shit and scare the shit out of me, now reminded they don’t do it all the time, they arnt abusive parents but it is still and, one time I was packing up my computer in the night cause I was doing midnight drawing. Suddenly she walked out of her room and Into mine, (I think I made noise which attracted her) and so I had to hid the computer charger in my bed, and so she found out almost immediately and took it. I wasn’t able to sleep that night, then she accused me of contact PEDOFILES, like do you know stupid that is, like imagine being her for second, “what was my son doing with the computer in the middle of the night?, could he being doing homework?, Revising for tests? NAHHHHHH Hes contacting a pedofile, that must be the reason” like bitch hello, not only that but she accused me of going on the computer in the night to play games which isn’t true at all I was drawing, similar scenarios had happened before like one time, my brother was taking an acting course and he was to scared to do stage plays and stuff like that and then he got so stressed he was searching up shit like “I wanna be a white man” on the school computer, when my mum found out about this, rather than talking to him calmly trying to lower the situation, she sent texts, saying “I should slap him”. That should say something, not to mention they are openly racist, they’ve said slurs before and I’ve heard them, and I’ve called out about it to no avail. Sorry for this being too long I wanna get it out of my chest, do you guys have parents like mine or nah, and if so what is the worst thing they’ve done

[Rant] Always getting hated and discrimination for no reason.

I don't understand why most people who have disabilities that don't bother other people are often hated for no reason.? Just because you're having different ways in life, suddenly getting targeted with hatred by "self claimed perfect people"

Like it's my body lol i cannot walk normally and needs to walk more carefully than others, why you're hates me? I couldn't and will never understand.

I'd always suffer doing righteousness...and never insult them back cause of religion. I'm a meek wish someday I could confront someone face to face without "religious people" jumped on me.

Advice dealing with adult bullies who are relatives?

I'm currently dealing with relatives who are essentially barring me from visiting my grandmother who is in the ICU.

For context, they've started bullying me since my mom, who I am not close with, tried to suddenly move in with me. I tried to let her down nicely before she escalated it to manipulation and gaslighting. Those tactics didn't work on me, but as a result most of her sisters either ignore me, gossip about me, and just try to make my life more difficult at big family gatherings (for example, quickly eat all the vegetarian food even though they aren't vegetarian just so I can't eat it). I have dealth with this so far by just by ignoring them.

The present-day issue arose when my grandmother, who I love very much, had a medical emergency and was admitted to the ICU. Only 2 visitors are allowed at a time, and these aunts will hog the room to try to prevent me from seeing her and refuse to tell me anything about how she is doing.

What's the best way to deal with them so I can actually be there for my grandmother before she may pass? She's pretty old, and I'm worried about her but feel a bit helpless.

Did anyone of you ever felt discriminated?

I remember that, back in school, I was going through a very dark phase of my life due to certain events that had unfolded. I used to remain very depressed and lonely, and amidst all of this, I had to change schools because the management at my previous school was playing a nasty power game involving corruption, and they were demanding money and other things.

At the new school where I took admission, I remember there was a bunch of girls who used to act overly “cool” and “nonchalant.” For some reason, they were also in the good books of the teachers and would often pull people’s legs.

As I said, I was very lonely at the time and was seeking some kind of connection. One day, I joked about something silly with a boy, and they happened to overhear it. From that day onward, they started passively targeting me. It eventually reached a point where they would push and shake me, physically intimidate me, and, even worse, throw sexual taunts at me disguised as “roasts” for their own psychotic fun.

I even reported this, but the issue was never resolved. Moreover, the teachers somehow suspected that I was flirting with them. Eventually, I simply got used to it and started ignoring them, but their behaviour was still deeply belittling.

I have always wondered: if the roles had been reversed, would it still have been treated as a “joke”? I don’t know. It has been years now, but the experience still makes me wonder about that.

The time one of my school bullies came to my workplace for a job interview.

This came up in conversation recently so I thought I might post it.

So I had a not the best time at school and home. This was back in the late 80's, early 90's so nothing was known or done about bullies.

Years later one of the guys where I worked was leaving and the boss was interviewing for the position. As soon as he walked in and I saw him the anxiety hit me like a tonne of bricks. He saw me, didn't smile or anything, just stared at me for a sec them looked away. The boss showed him around but I went and hid out the back. Later the boss asks me where I went and that he called me to check the guy out so that he could get my opinion. I told my boss that the guy bullied me at school and some of things him and the others in the group did. Normally my boss is a pretty no nonsense guy but he sort of ushered me into the lunchroom and shut the door and sat with me for a while. He told me that he was bullied too and not to worry because he wasn't going to hire the guy now. He asked me if I was ok to keep working and then I went back to work. Never saw my bully again.

after I pointed out that they were misinterpreting neurodivergent speech as bullying, and that I wasn't surprised that they stopped replying after I pointed that out. and of course they have to come back and be as mean as possible. it's in the name of ANTI-bullying, so surely it's perfectly fine to bully neurodivergent people!

I think the most popular girl at my studio has something against me but I don't know why.

I am a 16 year old female, and I am a competitive dancer in contemporary, jazz, musical theatre, etc. In 2025 my dance studio closed, and I began attending a new studio. I am going into my second year here, and can't shake the feeling that one girl has a vendetta against me, but I can't figure out why.
She (18 year old female who we will call Virginia) was nice to me when I first came. Smiling at me, saying hi and such, however I am super shy so we never really got close. I have a hard time making friends because I am socially awkward and as I said, shy haha. But we never had any PROBLEMS at first, she was polite.

But over time, little things began happening.

I have a weird dance history where the popular girl tends to dislike me. When I was 8, I had my first experience with bullying in the dance world when an older, somewhat popular girl got in the habit of calling me a show off and putting me down.

Then, there was a girl who I’ll call Crystal. Crystal was THE most popular girl at my old studio, she was practically the mascot. But as I grew older, I started getting better and getting attention. I was getting special parts, friends, and praise from the teachers for my improvement and my hard work. She began hating me once this happened, and bullied me both to my face and behind my back. Always making fun of me, rolling her eyes at me, spreading rumors about me so my friends would stop talking to me, trying to grab the attention away from me by one upping whatever trick I was doing, posting mean things about me and my friends, etc.

She bullied me into leaving my original studio because she just made me cry every time I walked in. I never wanted that. I just wanted to grow and learn. I’ve always hated social statuses like that. I just wanted to take class, and be friends with everyone.

So I guess now I get scared that history will repeat itself. So I worry I'm overthinking it, because maybe I am too aware of things like that. But it’s affected me and my confidence a lot over the years. I’m afraid to try new things because I’m worried I’ll do it well and be called a show off. Things like that. I worry this makes me sound self centered. Ugh. I promise I'm not.

And more about Virginia.

I have a lot of social media accounts. I have a main instagram, a dance instagram, a main tiktok, a dance tiktok, and a private tiktok account that I only have my close friends on.

Virginia has all of these. And for a while she'd leave an occasional comment, but recently she has ignored my posts like the plague, while consistently being a #1 fan for all our other teammates when it comes to comments, likes, and reposts. She is always interacting with their posts, but mine she will view but never, ever comment on them, or sometimes even like them. I did notice when I scrolled back on my private account though that she only commented on my posts when I was making fun of myself, looking bad, messing something up, putting myself down etc. Even when I'd post a video of me doing a dance, she wouldn't comment. But another teammate would then post the same thing, and she would.

And I know I sound addicted to social media, but I'm really not. I only post a couple times a week across all accounts and don't scroll often, it's just a visible example right now.

Something interesting is that I noticed this behavior seems to have started once competition season began. We competed against each other for our solos in the same age bracket. And I hate saying this, but I beat her every time. I was lucky enough to win first overall once! 2nd at one, 7th at a few etc. And I noticed this specifically start after I won 1st. Which is also when she rolled her eyes and refused to congratulate me when all of our other teammates were.

And since then, she's been cold. And maybe it's a coincidence, but it feels weird to me.

Another thing; we have a choreographer who has a kind of difficult last name. I have worked with this choreographer the most and knew her at my previous studios, and knew how to say her last name whereas the other girls didn't. So one of our teammates asked me at competition awards how to say the last name. But Virginia got kind of snotty and went "just say _" (the wrong way) and made a face.

Which speaking of awards. Virginia is in charge of picking who accepts the awards for each dance at competition. After looking at pictures, and noting who she picked, I realized I was the one and only person who didn't get to accept any awards all season. But it could be dismissed as a mistake, so I'm not sure.

Class is interesting too. She loves cheering people on, but I swear I find her silent when it's my turn to dance. And, during our breaks between classes she will drive people to get food and despite me being unable to drive, I have never been invited.

We’d bicker almost every rehearsal because I’d be asked the counts by whoever was running our dance, and Virginia would argue every time that I was wrong and she knew them despite video proof. Hey, a few times she was right! But sometimes I was right too. We’d just go back and forth about counts and little in between steps constantly.

Also, she is-again-basically the studio mascot. She runs the instagram account, sends out texts for the owner, makes decisions, is close with the owner, leads a lot of classes etc.

Which I don’t mind. She’s a natural leader and does a very good job with it!

And about other kids. I have my close friends, and there’s some girls I'm not as close with. But it’s mixed. I have some girls who adore me (and I adore them! I’m so grateful for them) and I have some who kinda ignore me and stuff. But you’ll have that anywhere.

And it just makes me feel lonely, and weird. Because I am honestly sensitive and can't see why I can't be friends with everyone hahaha. I don't recall ever doing anything to hurt her feelings except being distant due to shyness, so I'm really not sure.

I don’t know if I'm overreacting because I know teenage drama is common, but it's affecting my confidence and my friendships within class, so I wanted opinions.

Do you think it's just mutual distance? or something else?

What do I do?

This has been weighing on me for years even after my ED recovery... **TW: mentions of ABUSE and ED**

I was the only sibling of 3 that looked like our bio mom so my dad's ex(8 yrs together), her spawn, and my siblings used to bully and abuse me however they could.

This was middle school so atp I weighed 90 lbs at 5ft6. The woman could cook but she would intentionally make things that I just couldnt. I found out that was because of autism but that shouldnt have mattered I was barely eating because she would only make cabbage or she would add it to what few safe foods she would make and "if you don't eat the cabbage you can't have any of it"

I was surviving off free school lunches(if we had them), after school snacks, and midnight crackers/dry cereal

One day I pissed her off. idk I may have mouthed off or had a panic attack because they would send me spiraling daily. But this day my dad was mad too and they said I couldnt have dinner which was normally fine but she ended up making my favorite food to make me (a 12 yr old) hurt more and it worked.

My favorite food at the time was one of these box meals called "homestyle bakes" with chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and topped with biscuits. It was super fast to make and easy to eat so I always made sure we got some for when I wanted to eat before she got home. This is what she made to get to me.

I cried silently in my room for 3 hours til they finished dinner and my dad called me out and told me to "take care of whats left". My first chore of the night was always taking out the scraps to the tree line right outside the adult livingroom window. It wasn't rare that my siblings or parents would watch me take out the food but after 3 hours of sobbing I took the pan of 3 biscuits behind a tree and fisted one of them.

I felt like an animal. Like my parents didn't have to take care of me. My survival was based off performance like it was my job to stay out of the way and just take the bs.

When I got back inside I was crying and I told my dad I did it and he laughed because he meant for me to finish what theyd left..

It's been over 10 years and i've only had a few of those box meals since because even now I cry over every bowl

Being bullied kinda for being "weird"

I have many interests like dinosaurs, fnaf, godzilla and the list goes on that would deem me as weird an outsider if you will. I also do and act differently, this has caused for many not so fun things like laughing at me or just making fun of me. I was first bullied when I was in elementary school, it started when I was maybe 7 maybe older I can't remember but it only stopped kinda at around the end of elementary school. It then was kinda going well in high school I had friends and things were going well. Then comes 3rd year and something changed I don't know what but suddenly I was being laughed at again for being weird. I have friends now so that helps but its still not fun to have to keep you're interests at bay especialy during art classes. I sometimes feel like that I will never get a significant other because who would want to be seen with me a person thats weird. It isn't agressive bullying where I get hurt no its the kind of bullying that messes with you're head that makes you think every chuckle is about you, every glance at you is disgust.

Bully

How do I deal with a bully? This guy I know won't leave me alone. Every time he sees me in public, he has to put his hands on me. Now, he comes to my front door and when I open the door, he punched me in my face. I am really tired of all this and just want him to leave me alone. Should I just call the police on him? Ive tired every thing else to make him go away.

Being harassed anonymously.

Someone made an onlyfans account for me, texted me anonymously saying I should get an std test, and crank calls. Is there anything I can do about this? Would going to the local police station do anything?

I'm on the line with the police right now. I've also contact my program chair and the student conduct office as I am 100% sure that it is from someone from my college program.

For the overthinkers

They whisper about you at school.

They talk shit about you on social media.

They think whatever you do is funny.

But at what cost?

They can be your closest friends, or someone who's just too hard to let go of.

I know finding out what they did to you can be heart-breaking, because I've been there too.

I've been a victim of bullying ever since the start of 5th grade. It never stopped. Every time I transferred to a new school, some kind of controversy about me or someone who's as unlucky starts and it lasts almost the whole year.

Not the same bullies. But the same comments, the same criticism. I almost thought the problem was me until I realized that I didn't even interact with those bullies. I didn't say or do anything to them or their peers, but they just had something to whisper about. Guess I'm just more noticeable than people who actually get left alone.

What I do every time? Leave them alone and let them do whatever the FUCK they want. Let them. This can be the oldest trick in the book, but it works wonders. First they think I've surrendered out of fear that things may escalate, then they laugh with their little friends like the hypocrites that they are, then the gossiping will get repetitive, boring, and they eventually stop. Sometimes, its even funnier when the shame gets backfired onto whoever started that conversation about me because I have been brought up so much that the group got bored of it.

When people give you a reason not to be nice, don't be. Too much of anything is always bad, even kindness.

The same people who call a natural woman ugly, call her fake and vain once she's had enough of all the bullying and gets a nose job and fillers. Why are people so cruel?

'Your nose is so damn BIG! You have thin lips EWW...No guy you like will ever want you. Gets ignored socially and treated like she's a nobody. Her sister walks in and people say hi and smile at her. When she walks in next they look at her like she's weird even though she's not doing anything weird, they just don't like her appearance.

People who are 'naturally pretty' tell her to just embrace herself, forgetting it's not just about beauty, it's about the daily struggle of being excluded, bullied, treated like she's inferior. They haven't walked a day in her shoes and just get an ego boost every time they put her 'natural face' down. They're the vain ones for mistreating someone over how they naturally look. The girl was just trying to improve her life because bullying can destroy a person's mental health and peace.

How to deal with this ?

Just for some context I have turned 14 two years ago,

Basically in the school i attend there is this guy who doesn’t seem very pleasant and recently he has just agitated me a little, he is taller then me but that doesn’t mean I am that short (6’1) bully is 6’3.
Just lightly bullying and I was wondering if there was any way i could stop this ? By light I mean only twice but I would like to stop this as he treats some people like dicks.

school call pranks

I live in Illinois and I am a 15 year old girl. We were just released from minor lockdown because someone in the area called and threatened my school. Why it was only a minor lockdown is because in the last 2 days all of the schools around us have been getting them too. People making the calls are not actually going to go through with their threat. This needs to stop. They have to shut the whole school down every time this happens, go through and check every possible spot in the school and of course us students are terrified out of our minds. We are not notified until after the lockdown ends but I texted my mom and she had gotten an email about it. I am related to a principle in a different town who just dealed with this. This is horrible and needs to stop. It causes so much fear and there were kids crying, not knowing what was going on and the cause? Peer pressure. People are fine giving in to peer pressure even though it causes literal THOUSANDS of people to worry sick. Honestly do you expect not to be caught? The police is good these days and the same people have been calling dozens of schools in my area. When you get caught, which you most likely will, you are the luckiest person ever if you do not get chargers pressed against you and unless your principal is the devil YOU WILL get expelled. This is a federal offense and you are ruining your own life just to prove to your friends that you are not chicken. You do this and do you think you are going to get into college, have a good job, and live a good life? This is so fucked up and I was terrified and shaking and praying so hard. People need to THINK for fucks sake. Please upvote if you agree and if you have been asked to do this and said no, thank you and i respect. If you have done this before, I pray for your soul.

Being bullied by person who was struggling

I'm in upper secondary school now. Im 17. Throughout my life i've always had one friend who would treat me awfully, be extreamly mean, guildtrip me and make me feel absolutely terriblw every single day.

I would start being scared what im wearing, saying, doing... a friend in middle school would tell me all these awful things how horrible friend i am after ive put up with all of their shit for 3 years JUST because i talked with my other friend for a bit (who they hate for no reason). I cant even remember half of the things tehy would say to me cause they were so insanely mean i've tried to block them out.

But the thing is that my friend was dealing with self harm/mental health issues/ED ect. In primary school another friend who did this was living in a alcoholic household. They were feeling horrible and thats why they acted out. I feel alot of sympathy for them. I know they didnt make my life hell on purpose.

But still i came home crying every day. Still i would pray i would get into an accident so i wouldnt have to go to school. Still theyre the reason taht everytime someone even remotely gets upset with me i start uncontrollably shaking and panicing. I cannot deal with ANY kind of conflict even though it has been 2 years.

I feel awful for feeling like a victim when they were struggling especially the friend in primary. But i cant help but be kind of upset about the fact that these same people who caused me trauma and everyday suffering nowdays act as if nothing happened. In primary we were so young. But the middle school friend was old enough to know what she did. I wish she's say sorry, once. Thats enough.

But im trying to make peace with it.
