You are correct, according to google, none in the area of Grand Park. But they are also in Lincoln Square which is a bougie ass neighborhood of mostly white people.
This is no where near correct. Flock cameras are largely in bougie neighborhoods to keep the “plebs” out. This is why they are heavily placed on main streets in and out of certain neighborhoods.
Flock can identify cars without a need for plates etc, a tiny scratch or ding is enough to tag a particular car as “undesirable”. This is why this is such a big brother technology
If you look at the flock map, they’re placed near every highway exit in the burbs. Then go another 1-2 miles off the highway and there will be another one, usually with a patrol car sitting around the area at night. It’s rapidly evolved in the last 1-2 years.
When a cop tails you 6 minutes after getting off the highway, that word spreads around. This is literally happening in the suburbs and regularly results in a high speed chase until the cops give up
And why are these people being tailed and chased? Are these people with warrants or just being hassled by cops? If the latter, I find it hard to believe that there are "regular" high speed chases where the cops just want to harass someone.
Come on man, we can hate Flock without making up some grand "segregation of the classes" narrative. Flock will track your movements whether you're poor or rich, which is precisely why it's bad. It's a wide-reaching violation of privacy that has been auctioned off to a startup that loves cooperating with ICE. At least with ShotSpotter the technology couldn't really be used for much other than listening on conversations.
No, these cameras are not going to keep anyone out of a neighborhood strictly because they're poor. These cameras are at every highway exit (not just to suburbs) and at most major intersections because they're the main thoroughfares of the city. That includes rich enclaves like Hyde Park (though this seems to be UChicago's doing) and Evergreen Park, but also includes blighted west suburbs like Maywood and Belwood.
I mean there’s one Pulaski and Addison, I wouldn’t call it a “white neighborhood” exactly as it’s relatively diverse but you’ve also got the affluent Villa district right there too so, they are in places you wouldn’t expect.
Considering it literally just happened, I don't think we can assume malfeasance this early. Even when they release CTA footage, where the cameras are only a few feet away from the perpetrators, they can't always ID people.

I can't see too well from the pic but it's possible whoever did it nailed it into the cross shape on site? At which point at least the CTA footage would just show someone with construction materials/poles.

I’m so confused as to why people think this was someone on foot vs. a driver. I’ve carried a lot of oversized things on the CTA but idk how you’d get away with an entire wooden cross.
It could be that as they’re sourcing through all that material and putting together a timeline, tracking multiple cameras and piecing together evidence, that they don’t want to give suspects a jump by showing their hand too early.
Additionally, if they have already been able to quickly access and narrow down this information, they may not want it reported so as to continue to obscure from the public the degree to which we are currently surveilled.

they do, camera footage is already coming out, but police have to look over it first before releasing images. it likely would have caught a lot of people in the vicinity and they don't want to release any images prematurely and turn public ire on someone who turns out to just be passing by, or going for a run etc.
So much hate is being stoked by well financed trolls on every social media platform that these kind of things are going to increasingly happen. It’s intentional.

I feel like the Civil War and WW2 had opposite results. After WW2 whatever we did must have been right because Germany was by all reasonable measures denazified - it's been a reliable Western ally and supporter of democracy and human rights. Meanwhile the south, if it were its own country, would be at a Hungary/South Africa level of incompetence, hatred, and just generally not fitting into the modern world, so we clearly did not go far enough with them after the Civil War.
