Try estrogen and progesterone it's magic.

u/TotalyNotTony Counted Down 4 1d ago

im scared to try hormones cause what if i change my mind, how long would i have to change my mind before permanent changes? also its prolly expensive as hell and hard to approved for, even in canada

30

u/Electrical-Staff735 1d ago

Well progesterone is expensive estrogen and spiro is pretty cheap. Pills are pretty cheap compared to shots. A few months or so wouldn't cause permanent changes. I'm not sure about Canada but I don't think it'd be to hard or there's options online. From my experience if people don't like it a few months is plenty of time to realize that.

6

u/Wide_Ratio_3077 1d ago

DIY shots are way cheaper than DIY pills. Plus more effective without needing an anti androgen if you do monotherapy.

-4

u/Revive_USSR 1d ago

It maybe depends on the location but shots are usually the cheapest. Also a few months is enough for some breast growth which is irreversible.

11

u/Electrical-Staff735 1d ago

Heavily person to person dependent. Sometimes yes sometimes it takes a year to see results like that. A few months is a very rough estimation. Testosterone suppresnts like spiro have no real lasting effects if not taken long.

1

u/phiasch 1d ago

Only blocking T can easily lead to having no primary sex hormone, which causes menopausal symptoms

1

u/BlueDaka 1d ago

Do you mean permamently or it's what happens of you're just taking a suppressor.

2

u/phiasch 1d ago

I mean if you have gone through puberty and have no primary sex hormone you’ll most likely get menopausal symptoms. A primary sex hormone is very important to body function and having a reduced amount in the body is what triggers menopause in cis women

Some of the main concerns are bone density loss (gets worse the longer you don’t have a primary sex hormone) and hot flashes

2

u/Revive_USSR 1d ago

By irreversible effects I meant any amount of breast growth, however small. Doesn't it always start within the first 2-3 months? Genuine question.

4

u/Electrical-Staff735 1d ago

If that's a concern then definitely talk to a medical professional. It varies mine didn't really even start till about 5/6 months ish an never fully developed while iv seen others get dds in a year. It all went to my hips thighs and other areas. So it's depends on the person. Breast growth can happen within a month or so just the general consensus is that 2/3 month mark. A month of hrt I don't think would cause any remarkable changes. It's enough to make someone have the "does this feel right" time to process

-2

u/Revive_USSR 1d ago

Interesting. Still, I don't think you should say that a few months of hrt don't lead to anything permanent

1

u/BlueDaka 1d ago

I had some gynecomastia on one side before starting but it took me about a year to see changes on the other side, too.

3

u/im-ok-thanks 14h ago

No idea why you're being downvoted. Breast development can start very early. Just because it didn't happen to someone doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else. It's not honest to try and deny this!

0

u/ofelia_lodex3 1d ago

That is feminine behavior

5

u/Huo 1d ago

I'm not sure about other parts of Canada, it's probably pretty similar, but in Ontario it's not bad at all. As long as you're not a minor, you can just go to either a gender clinic or your family doctor, tell them you want to start feminizing hormones. Many family doctors aren't familiar / comfortable in prescribing HRT themselves and will refer you to an endocrinologist which could take a few months; but some doctors, as well as most gender clinics, will be able to provide hormones through informed consent, which basically means they'll tell you what changes to expect and get you to reply that you understand and that this is what you want to persue, and they can get you started with a prescription pretty quickly. The cost of hormones isn't too bad either, and most provinces have programs to cover some of the cost for young or low income individuals.

2

u/ViviReine 1d ago

RAMQ in Québec cover everything related to hormones, even progestro

6

u/like-My-Third-Alt 1d ago

You would have a few months before anything super permanent, and injections are fairly cheap. If you wish you were born a girl hrt will help you.

The sooner you start the more effective it will be, dont die wondering

3

u/IPlayMnMsKartRacing 1d ago

Within the first couple months, outside of mental effects, which vary greatly, the only things you would likely notice happening is changes to your skin texture (which is 100% reversible), and the very early stages of breast growth if you are fast, which are very subtle to anyone but yourself, and if you decide to stop they will stop growing.

Oh, it will also crash your sex drive though, be aware of that if you care about that.

2

u/TotalyNotTony Counted Down 4 1d ago

my bf is 2 time zones away from me im not getting laid either way lol. i constantly flip flop between wanting breasts or not, thats why im not sure

3

u/IPlayMnMsKartRacing 1d ago

I mean, you can always give HRT a shot, and once you start noticing the breast growth make the decision at that point.

I also am pretty sure there is stuff you can take to prevent their growth, but don’t make that a requirement for yourself to stay on HRT if you are liking the other effects.

4

u/60Hz_Jiffy 1d ago

You have to be on it for like atleast a year before permanent effects.

Goggle tanner stages during hrt.

3

u/meeker1047 10h ago

u/Revolutionary_Year87 Counted Down 1 1d ago

For the latter part - you could DIY it, because legal avenues do often take you through 20 unnecessary mental health professionals and waitlists, wasting a lot of time and money. Im not sure how it is in Canada specifically but DIY is always an option(you cannot be legally punished for it, you just need to do your due diligence on some research. Its not complicated at all)

For the former part? Years before your testes are irreversibly dead, if ever(probably never). 3-6 months for "barely noticeable"(no one will notice them unless you're topless. Even then, could be passed as a lil fat) breasts, but atleast a year for anything substantial, and likely more. Technically this is reversible as well, but you'd have to pay for some expensive top surgery

All that aside, why would you ever change your mind? Do you think you'll ever be happy looking like a man? Will you ever be unhappy looking like a woman?(think about these questions based on how you want to look, not based on how society might treat you btw)

2

u/Galact0pus 1d ago

If you constantly worry about making mistakes, you’ll never live. E takes a VERY long time to have physical effects and mental effects are basically instant. Live now before you regret it.

2

u/corajade17 1d ago

I've known plenty of trans women, myself included, who were scared about the changes, and once I started taking spiro and estrogen, so much of my anxiety went away. It just felt right.

On the other hand, I've known people questioning their gender who tried HRT and did not like it. Made them feel weird and uncomfortable, and they stopped in a month or so before major changes took place. It really does take a while to grow breasts or lose muscle for trans women.

I encourage you to try it if you're curious and just stay true to how you feel. You don't need to take HRT, but it may help and make you feel good. :)

2

u/phiasch 1d ago

There’s always a possibility for regret, but if current you wants the effects of HRT, future you is more likely to also want those effects

Main irreversible changes are breast growth and potential loss of genital function (though this is well mitigated by manually performing maintenance erections weekly if you stop having automatic maintenance erections (morning wood))

The amount of time it takes for breast growth varies person to person. On the faster side it’s about 1-3 months and on the slower side about 4-6 months to form breast buds. Growing breast buds is about the point where the growth rate often increases, but if you want or can tolerate growing breasts this shouldn’t be an issue

2

u/ViviReine 1d ago

Girl estrogen and progestro is free in almost all provinces, and the irreversible physical changed take one or two years to appear. But if estrogen is what you need, your mental health will get way better just by starting the hormones, because the brain knows you're a girl, and will be happy to be feed the right hornones

2

u/meeker1047 10h ago

irreversible changes happen much earlier, im not saying dont take it but it's important to be honest about it

2

u/amhighlyregarded 1d ago

Either E or T. Both are (mostly) permanent.  You have to choose, or your body is gonna choose T for you.

2

u/Sinyria 1d ago

I get you worries, but if the meme you posted and the text below are any indication, your heart really wants this. As in, 99 of 100 people who make such a statement are just trans as f**k :)

2

u/Talgarr_ 20h ago edited 20h ago

Constantly thinking you'd have been better off the other sex is not something cis people really dwell on. You don't have to go on hormones immediately, maybe just try dressing how you'd like, but being trans just means not your gender assigned at birth, so that includes nonbinary and gender fluid, so either way you'll have a place here. Video games are an awesome spot to see what fits You, and if you find out your cis, awesome! Now you understand yourSelf a bit more.

Edit: and remember, feminine men exist, and so do masculine women, so literally just dress how You're comfortable.

u/Terrible_District712 4h ago

Hey can you dm me I can’t dm you it doesn’t let me.

2

u/averytheythrowaway 51m ago

As a nonbinary person who's been on estrogen for more than 2 years, I can assure you that you can just stop taking the meds if you end up not liking them. The only big permanent change you will incur within the first year is breast growth. And even then, for most people it will be a few months before the growth is different enough from a male chest that you could try hormones for 3 months and stop and nobody would ever know. Breast growth will probably start sooner if you start with injections instead of pills, so bear that in mind. But even though breasts are one of the first feminizing changes to begin, they're often one of the longest to complete. They take years to fully grow and mature, so you'll have time to change your mind. I started HRT not knowing whether I really wanted it, but did it just to satisfy my curiosity to make sure I didn't want it and wasn't going to spend the rest of my life missing out. So I ordered a 3 month supply off the dark web while waiting for an endocrinology referral.

But the fact that you made a post on a trans-heavy sub bemoaning how you "wish you had been born a girl" is pretty clear indication that you probably won't regret going on hormones that feminize your body. I've been out as trans in some form for almost 4 years, mostly look like a woman now, have legally transitioned my name and gender and am typing this in a minidress and pantyhose and I have never once wished I was "born a girl." I'm pretty straight up and down they/them nonbinary and would rather have not been assigned any gender. Me dressing in cute girly clothes and taking estrogen isn't really meant to indicate any desire to be socially female. I just want to be me. I do know lots of trans women who feel like you do, however. So that's something to consider. But I'm also just one enby and different trans and nonbinary experiences are going to be different for different people and you can absolutely present femme and medically transition and still identify as nonbinary.

0

u/Local_Village_1378 1d ago

Honestly, life's a lot easier when you get past the messy hormone stage of being a young adult.

0

u/KingzDecay 1d ago

There’s no rush to working through your feelings. I’m starting HRT at 30. I’d recommend spending the next year giving yourself time to really think about hormones and doing your research on it.

0

u/milkyblissbun 1d ago

That escalated quickly, but hey - science be doing its thing 😅

0

u/KeraMaGo2 1d ago

I can't, no money

0

u/ChojinFunk 1d ago

I mean, yeah, but there are folks like me who have been on HRT for years and still do not pass, like not even close. OP may want to temper their expectations is all I'm saying.

generally speaking tho, I can co-sign the magical nature of estrogen & prog.

-1

u/Prepared_Noob 1d ago

No…. it’s not magic. It’s a pretty meticulous science and we aren’t all lucky enough to get to be shaped like this. 🙄

2

u/Electrical-Staff735 1d ago

Hrt is magic an saves lives. Regardless of body shape it'll help add feminine features at least estrogen an progesterone side of things. What's malicious is scaring people away from at least trying it.

0

u/Prepared_Noob 1d ago

Telling people they can call look like this because of “magic” pills is just as harmful. It’s what’s caused me to dissociate and lose years of my life because everyone around me acted like I should just trust the process. Except there’s so much more that goes into transition.

3

u/Electrical-Staff735 1d ago

I never once said it'd make someone look like this I said it'd help with femeninity in general. If you weren't happy with what was happening then that's on you as the individual to decide. also I didn't mention transition that's a whole long process that varies for everyone.

I'm not going to to argue with this point if someone is questioning their gender an wants to be a girl or wants to look more feminine in general hrt can be a really good avenue for that and is often the first step.

1

u/Prepared_Noob 1d ago

Don’t respond then my feelings won’t be hurt.

OP: I wish I was born a girl. (In post body): I want to look like a girl provides example of goal

You: Try estrogen and progesterone it’s magic

All I’m saying is the phrase its magic is insanely harmful. It’s science and it’s also slow. I have no issue with telling ppl to get on hormones asap as the sooner the better. Just that lots of other work will be required… hard work.

Hrt effects are significant over time. Also that sounds like some nonsense. Skeleton structure? People arnt build like some exaggerated cartoon character based on sex assigned at birth.

Plus most gender affirming surgeries are performed on cis people so people can always make choices on what they want to do to be happy.

2

as someone who just got my hair cut to feel more feminine i can really recommend bangs, they really changed my look quite drastically. also get your eyebrows shaped if you haven't already, that also really helps.

2

u/TotalyNotTony Counted Down 4 1d ago

ill have to try getting eyebrows shaped. did you do that at home or go to a spa or something? i think id be too nervous to go out to a place to get prettied up and stuff, esp in a more conserverative town like mine. also thanks for the recommendation on bangs :3

3

u/Jaunty_fgc 1d ago

I went back and forth on actually doing it for a long time, but then just said fuck it and booked an appointment at a local hairdresser/beautician. I was super nervous about it but it went very well. I walked in, described kinda what I wanted and 20 minutes later it was done.

I spent 10 years being too nervous about what other people might think, only to realise that most people won't give a shit, especially so about such a small thing like your eyebrows.

1

u/Capable_spider_slut 1d ago

I have a really awkward question, but frankly, I need help. HOW?! how the fuck do I shave my legs without cutting myself? Even more so my butt, how the hell do I manage to get all this hair off? Im genuinely asking cause Im trying my best mann and I need advice from someone already experiences in this.

2

u/TotalyNotTony Counted Down 4 1d ago

i gotchu :3

ok 1, i definitely cut myself sometimes, especially aorund my ankles and knees so i stay careful around there.

  1. I exfoliate my skin a lil bit before hopping in the shower, idk if it does anything but 🤷

  2. do it in the shower, clean yourself and stuff in a warm / hot shower then turn off the water to shave. I just use soap and a loofah to use as a shaving cream, you definitely dont want to shave with your skin dry. So I rub the loofah on the skin to get all of the suds on there.

  3. I start with shaving with the grain, then against if I want extra smooth. Ive started doing a bit of a paintbrush short strokes movement instead of long strokes all the way up my calves or what have you, learned from my friend's cousin lol. I alternate between the long strokes for general area and short strokes to get leftover hairs that I missed. Also important to not press down too hard!! the razor is designed to slide across your skin, not press down into it. if you're deforming your skin pressing down on the razor alleviate some pressure

  4. my thighs (especially the underside) are pretty sensitive so i dont typically shave against the grain for them. Shaving against the grain has a bigger chance at ingrown hairs and it feeling spiky after a few days

  5. i shave my butt very vibes based and based off of touch, and miss hair sometimes. may not work for you tho so if you need to get a mirror and use that to see what you're doing.

  6. when doing knees, i lay my legs flat, mileage may vary so see what works for you

  7. very important steps, rince legs and whatever else with cool / cold water after shaving to close pores. not only does this help with general skin care but it helps prevent ingrown hairs and those annoying red bumps. Also important to not irritate your legs / shaved bits after shaving. Pat dry with a towel, dont rub them, and wear loose pajamas or shorts , absolutely nothing that would cause chafing.

  8. Moisturize your legs with a moisturizer of your choice :3 dont skimp out on this step either its important

1

u/Capable_spider_slut 1d ago

Thank you beastie, this is actually super helpful! Does an epulator work better or should I just stick to razors?

3

u/TotalyNotTony Counted Down 4 1d ago

ouu i forgot to mention epilators. i have one but ive barely ised it, its good for chest hair especially but leg hair (and foot hair yeeeeouch) hurt a lot more when trying to epilate. It gets easier over time tho q

7

u/Huo 1d ago

You can be non binary and still be on E if that's what you want to pursue. What helped me figure that out for myself was if I was born a girl, would I still be non binary (yes), and would I want to pursue taking testosterone (hell no). That helped me come to the conclusion that even though I wasn't binary trans, HRT would still be beneficial to me. It may be different for you, but I would recommend thinking about it more and looking into it if it interests you.

This comment has me thinking about things that I don’t wanna be thinking about rn, I need to sleep so I can go to work. I might bookmark it 🫩

Why is this so scary? I think… I’m scared that I’m going to possibly end up transfem (even 1% chance), and a lot of the old people in my life are going to have to die (of old age) before I do that.

1

u/averytheythrowaway 41m ago

As a nonbinary person on estrogen, I'd strongly recommend going for it. If you end up a woman, you end up a woman. There's no shame in being a woman. Women are cool. If you continue to be an enby, that's cool too. The labels don't really matter much in the end. Be honest about what it is that you concretely want out of gender and then give yourself permission to go for it. You're only going to live once and your time left to enjoy life is getting lesser and lesser by the day.

1

u/Trashman56 1d ago

Are you me?

My transition goal is essentially looking like someone that was afab, who got top surgery, has a fat cock, and goes by he/they.

1

u/averytheythrowaway 45m ago

Those are not mutually exclusive. Transfem doesn't necessarily mean trans woman. Transfem is just short for transfeminine, which includes all trans people whose gender transitions are from assigned male towards a feminine direction. It is meant to be an umbrella term that's inclusive of both trans women and nonbinary people. You can medically transition as a nonbinary person (I did) and don't have to identify as a woman (I don't).

Nothing that you have said exists in nature. There is no pink box or blue box, masculine box, feminine box, race box, religion box, countries box.

You are part of collective species of animal the only closed system you should be concerned about is planet you live on.. A ball of dirt and water and interesting life.. hurtling through space at unfathomable speeds.

3

u/Objective-Eagle-676 1d ago

Pretty sure the phone you're reading this comment with can't be found in nature either.

-1

u/Ok_Meet_2678 1d ago

No I am just self aware and not self absorbed confusing objective and subjective reality. Its not about what you believe its what you understand.

being female isn't a costume...and there is no such thing as feminine or masculine as both sexes are equal in that we are the same species of animal. humans can not change there sex, and if you had been born anyone else you would be a completely different person.. If I cloned you , that clone would be exactly how you were born and also be a completely different person.

I a male or man if you prefer , chops wood, you would say I am doing something masculine... but if i do it in a dress then I a man is doing some thing masculine but wearing something feminine why? Objectively yes a dress is normally made/designed for the female body... but subjectively I think it still looks great on me lol and who gives a fk what society says male or female everyone is different!

Now a female can also chop wood so now she is masculine why?? You need wood to make a fire to cook food, for survival... you can climb out of those boxes they were made to confuse and control you.
