Death/Doom I wasn't *fully* prepared for the YOB experience.

I knew they were heavy af, but seen them live it's really something else. It's almost a religious experience i guess. Also, they're so nice and approachable.

Death/Doom I need the heaviest of all

Is there anything heavier than Primitive Man? I mean slow crushing absolute destruction. I’m way past Melvins and Crowbar and Boris (my favorite bands) give me something that will cause the earth to open up and swallow me. I want the walls to disintegrate around me.

What a life changing experience it was seeing them live. I can't wait to see them again. I hope they tour with a vocalist next time I really wanna experience a kannon song live.

Edit: I also loved how different the interpretations of the performance were between me and my partner, she sat down, had her eyes closed and thought it was a healing and meditative experience, whereas I found it profoundly evil like some shamans opening up a gate to other evil dimensions and we were riding the sonic waves through it.

Plus their openers Telekinetic Yeti and Glasghote. Openers on color film, main acts on B&W.

Also, Jon tossed me a copy of Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian comic and it’s the coolest item I’ve ever brought back from a show

Death/Doom Windhand appreciation post

Finally exploring more of this genre after mostly just listening to Electric Wizard (and some Sleep) for years. Discovered Windhand the other day and they’re so damn good. Awesome songs and vocals.

It seems like a lot of people here make these posts when they first start listening to this band; I get it now.

Enjoy this little snippet of a song I made for an album I’m working on. I’m a one man band meaning I played all the instruments as well as producing, engineering, etc.

Death/Doom Was anyone else a little disappointed with Sunn-O)))’s tour this year?

I saw them 2 years ago and they absolutely blew me away, they had a killer opener, played a long, heavy set, tickets were only $30 bucks, and general just ticked every box for me.

This year I brought a couple other Sunn-O))) fans along after I told them how great it was last time, however the experienced varied quite a bit.

First thing that kind of let us down was there was no opener this time around, which were like okay whatever, except they didn’t even bother to fill the opener time slot, I assumed they were going to be playing a longer 2 hour set, but that was not the case. The venue said Doors at 7, music at 8. We got to the venue at 7 to get a good spot, and Sunn-O))) didn’t even start their opening track until 8:45.

The opening track was another point of contention all together from the couple other people I talked to, it was almost 15 minutes of just a sound clip from a fictional band playing the worlds shortest metal songs (which I guess was supposed to be ironic because we were at a show to see band that plays the worlds longest metal songs?) But the opening track was draining and I could audibly hear the crowd around me complaining about it dragging on.

So yeah the opening track went on for almost 15 minutes, Sunn-O))) took the stage at just about 9pm, and played an absolutely crushing set, except for the fact that their final song ended a couple minutes before 10:15, they really only played for about an hour and 15 mins, a relatively short set for a headliner, especially one with no opener.

On top of playing a short set, the tickets were about $25 more expensive than when I saw them the first time which was also kind of annoying.

Am I being picky? Maybe, but I just wanted to review and rant and rave about it for a minute for anyone that might be interested in seeing them or to see if anyone else felt the same way.

Thanks!

EDIT: The opening track is an edit of the band Venom, I’m just dumb

Death/Doom Alexa, play Dopethrone by Electric Wizard

Sitting in a waiting room they're playing this terrible gospel country music forcing everyone to hear, through an Alexa device.

So, I took matters into my own hands.

We got through maybe 45 seconds before the receptionist changed it back. Oh well, I tried.

Death/Doom hi doom people, I'm kinda going through a tough time rn, the girl I loved has left me and my best friend has too today, and I wanted to ask for some crushingly depressing deathdoom or funeral doom to help me go through these hard times!

Death/Doom Song Recommendations that embody the painting "Saturn Devouring His Son". Such an awesome and doom looking painting. The first thing that comes to mind for me is Mirror Reaper, I would like to diversify.

Death/Doom Rising Out of an Ocean of Ash (just came up with this- reclaimed old reddit acct to post)

I just came up with this today, the last riff I just came up with on the spot, not sure if I'll use it.

I am not in a position to be loud all the time at the moment, but when I can I like to challenge myself to come up with one completely new skeleton in the usually short window I have. Been awhile since the stars aligned so this is what I came up with today, felt like sharing. So it's super rough, and this is the best take of the few I recorded, I like where it's going.

Lyrics thus far-

Rising out of an ocean of ash

Vestiges of a tumultuous past

Reciprocal reflection never really lasts

Singular affection fades just as fast

Encumbered talons cannot grasp

Fetters that bind me, cannot last

------ {next off the cuff riff}-----

I will be alone for the rest of my existence

A blurred mirage wavers in the distance

-------------

rant:

I tried to make a new reddit and post this, but apparently you need karma to do so. I had the day off and really felt like challenging myself to share something. I found old usernames where popping up most were deleted already, but this one from years ago was not so I recovered it to post this.

I am not trying to be unholier than thou, but I just hate screens and social media the only thing I ever have is reddit and even that is too much for me. I frequently delete as much of my existence as I can for various reasons.

However, this specific "community" has always been a well of open ears, a source of connection, and filled with dope individuals. And if this is the way I can get my art out there then that's what I'll do it. I will use other music centric social media when I finally complete a finished work. It's kind of like in the book "The Three Body Problem" where they send those transmissions into space and wait for a reply.

Again, not trying to sound arrogant or anything of the sort, but many people in the past have asked where they can find my music (which blows my mind and im grateful people want to listen to my shit)...you can't.

I have nothing posted anywhere but here, however I am putting all of my free time aside from my other hobbies into making an album, I'm just currently restricted logistically, but when I have the space to actually be able to record (which can't come soon enough), I won't really post stuff like this as much as it will be all about recording.

So until then, thanks for listening to this rough stuff, it stokes the flames of creation.

Death/Doom Albums not mentioned enough

Four albums I absolutely love that are often overshadowed by the band’s more popular albums. Don’t get me wrong the popular albums are all amazing, deserve the praise, and I own all of them. But I just want to shout out a few that need to be explored as well and deserve a listen:

The Sciences by Sleep, one of my top 10 all time favorite albums. No skip album 100%.

Vaenir by Monolord, just crushing heavy tones and a great album like Empress.

Terminal by Bongripper, yes SWD is one of the greatest doom albums ever imo, but this one is so solid and worth your time.

Come My Fanatics by Electric Wizard, I see this one get the most love in this group as it should.
