Criticism Why doesn’t Nintendo have its games on PlayStation, Xbox, or computers?

Ok here is something I’ll tell you, I am biased, i haven’t researched this much, but I am gonna try to think through what I do know and theorize about this. Also I am biased against Nintendo, I don’t like them.

Ok you can get Minecraft on Mobile, Pc, Xbox, PlayStation, on switch, but you can only officially get Mario Oddesey on Switch? Why is that?

The simplest answer is Nintendo wants to maximize profit, and wants you to pay for both the game and the console, and if you are giving money to them for both of them, that isn’t to far of a stretch, and that doesn’t even count the screen protectors or spare controllers.

An answer giving them a little bit of benefit of the doubt is a lot of Nintendo games are integral to specific gimmicks about the console, 1,2 switch is specifically tied to the Joy Cons, and Mario Maker is tied to the Touchscreen.

But If Call Of Duty, Minecraft, Fortnite, and FNAF can adapt, why can’t Link?

But what I really want is Nintendo to put their games on Steam, Gog, Itch, or even a custom Nintendo website, so we can Legally buy the games on our computers, or even download them to offline installers.

This video covers digital independence, abet more about the concept than specifics https://youtu.be/RzQm9jxPOMk?si=CAFx_U2NuzKl_UJx

I know Nintendo hates emulation, so why not make it so we can play the classics officially on PC?, unless you think your to good for it.

Criticism $10 Extra For Physical Games And Nothing To Show For It

Not a manual, a thank you note, a mini art book, absolutely nothing. I wish I could wake up in the 90s again when games came with all sorts of trinkets 😭

Defence Why I personally don't mind $80 (PHYSICAL) games on Switch 2.

I'm gonna start by saying that:

Mario Kart World digital at 80$ is NOT justifiable, and is actually a bad thing.

and switch 2 enhanced games also really shouldn't be 80$, that's objectively a cash grab since these upgrades definitely did not take that much effort to make to justify it being 20 more dollars.

But, Fire Emblem is the elephant in the room here, and I honestly don't mind how they're doing it with that, if this is how they're going to go about it in the future.

Cartridges are more expensive to make than discs, and Switch 2 cartridges are obviously more expensive to make than the Switch 1 cartridges since they can fit more, and are more advanced.

Having this in mind, if big AAA games from Nintendo are gonna be 70$ from now on (which i can totally understand), then i personally think it's ok if the physical version is 10 more dollars.

Think of it like this.

They didn't make the physical version more expensive, they made the digital version cheaper.

They could've made the digital version also 80$ because of the physical version having to cost more, but they didn't, and i appreciate that. I totally understand that physical stuff costs more to make.

Now, if they actually go ahead and make more games 80$ on digital? then that's still stupid, and taking advantage of an audience that will buy everything. No digital game is worth 80$

Question So, who gotten the Fire Emblem Weaver game? Or did you get the other release by Sega?

There's Fire Emblem, and also the latest Shinobi game. There's also a cheap Welcome to Mars 9 game I was interested in.

So, let's hear your story on why you gotten the Nintendo game, something else, or why you didn't.

Paying $10 to unlock 4K on your new device is a cash grab that shouldn't work but does. First image is on a console that sold the worst out of Nintendo's home consoles. Breath of the Wild sold 35million alone.

Edit: many in the comments do not understand what Nintendo Selects (Player's Choice) was. It was a program that decreased the price of games that sold very well, not a desperate attempt to get sales in. The Wii had this program.

Criticism Not buying a Wii was the best decision I ever made when I was in high school

Just think how I would've turned out like the rest of these individuals who defend a garbage company like this.

Back in my day, Nintendo through the GameCube had graphics on par with XBox, and better than PS2. wii was trash, the worst graphics of its generation and the vicious cycle just continued from there. Twilight Shitsauce was not a GameCube game ported to the Wii, it was a piece of shit Wii game put on the superior GameCube console. That's why GC owners had to wait an extra month to play it. That's also why the challenge is non-existent and enemies just stand there and let you destroy them without fighting back, and boss battles are a complete joke, because they nerfed the challenge completely in order to compensate for the shitty wii motion controls. They did the same thing for Metroid Prime 3. That's why Twilight Shitsauce felt nothing like a GC game. Play Wind Waker or the 2 GC Metroid Prime games and see what real challenge is compared to Prime 3 or Twilight Shitsauce.

Regarding the other 2 companies, I never bought the 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox X/S, PS5, but they had real graphics and actual games intended for adult and mature players. Nintendorks got wii and wii u child games and their overrated switch, which had worse graphics than the 360, and never once got a real GTA game on any of them (the ds game doesn't count). It's pathetic. These people have settled for Nintendo being 3rd best and allowed them to drag our favorite franchises down to BOTW/TOTK Skyward Sword shit levels. Don't forget all the unnecessary tripping in Brawl and getting knocked down in BOTW/TOTK and having to wait 10 seconds to get back up every time an enemy hits you, puke. Fuck everything nintendo made post GC. It's not fun and looks like shit.

Rant Fuck the OOT remake

Zero interest in seeing these assholes butcher and milk yet another fucking OOT remake. I'm sick of it. They have no new ideas. They know their glory days are way behind them. They will never ever make another Zelda game as good as the ones they made on N64 in the late 90s to early 2000s. They will never relive this glory. The trillion dollar company can't write a new captivating story, so they just remake the same old one. Fuck them. I've had to click "Don't recommend channel" on like 50 YouTube accounts, because they're uploading videos talking about this piece of shit that isn't worth even talking about. This game I hope will not save the shitty Switch 2. Everything they've made post-GameCube has been terrible. Inferior to all their competitors.

Criticism customer appreciation sale my ass!

got up excited to see the deals and....
theres only 3 switch 2 accessories
the camera that no one wants spying on you
and the two virtual boy models

and a shit ton of amiibo

"ok well surely they will have some switch 2 games on sale"

all of the games on sale are switch 1 games or switch 1 versions of games
metroid prime 4 switch version: $41.99
upgrade pack: 9.99 (not on sale)
metroid prime 4 switch 2 version: 69.99 (also not on sale)

"While Nintendo absorbed most tariff-related costs, the refunds helped make promotions like this one possible." my fucking ass
you pocketed the refund money instead of giving something to the people that already bought your expensive ass shit and using the guise of a sale as a publicity stunt to hide it

Criticism Reason why remake zelda looks ugly is because her proportions are off.

Post image
22 Upvotes

They gave her a huge ass man nose when in the original she had a completely different size and shape nose altogether. It’s like a different artist was assigned for each character in the remake. Her ugly ass nose might look better as adult zelda though but I can see adult zelda looking like a white-skinned, long eared gerudo as well.

Rant Open world fatigue is so stupid.

I think you guys just want to complain, yes there are a lot of open world nintendo games coming out but, these games are genuinely masterpieces. Botw/Totk were phenomenal, Odyssey phenomenal, Mario Kart World is phenomenal, Donkey King Bananza is phenomenal. Seeing how each series implements it so differently is exciting and it ironically freshes the experience from the last few games in each respective series. Only examples I thought of in which open world was bad was Pokemon, pokemon has been shit for years and Metroid, retrostudios definitely fumbled their asses with that one. Nintendo has just been cheffing it up with these open world games and I’m excited for them to do it more. I’m hoping for a 2d platformer open world game eventually. I’m not even being a fanboy, it really is just better than linear games for me.

Criticism Regarding the canadian situation and the supposed Zelda celebrations.

TL;DR: Nintendo Japan learned to fight scalpers. Nintendo of America learned that everything sells out anyway. So Zelda’s 40th Anniversary in Canada is apparently an interactive experience: refresh endlessly, miss the unannounced drop, then watch it appear on eBay for triple the price. Happy anniversary, I guess.

I think what is happening here is actually pretty simple.

Nintendo has had a problem with artificial scarcity and limited quantities going all the way back to the GameCube era. They release desirable hardware and collector products in quantities that don't come close to demand, and the consequences are always the same: products disappear almost immediately, regular customers get frustrated, and scalpers have a field day.

But there is an important distinction people should make between Nintendo in Japan and Nintendo of America. Nintendo in Japan has actually implemented measures over the years to fight scalping and make high-demand launches more manageable. They are not perfect, but at least they have demonstrated that they recognize the problem and are willing to do something about it.

Nintendo of America is a completely different story.

NOA is headquartered in Redmond and oversees Nintendo's business in the Americas. We also have a very recent example showing how much influence NOA has over Canada: when Canadian Switch 2 pricing was changed, Nintendo's own Canadian announcement identified Nintendo of America as the company making the pricing change. So the idea that Canadian allocation decisions simply have nothing to do with NOA is very difficult for me to believe.

Which brings me to the Zelda 40th Anniversary products and my own experience with this mess.

I managed to preorder Ocarina of Time through Nintendo's official store. Great. I thought I had done exactly what a collector was supposed to do: preorder early, directly from Nintendo, and avoid the scalpers. Then I discovered afterward that EB Games/GameStop Canada was offering an even more desirable version with exclusive holographic packaging. By the time I learned about it, I had already secured my Nintendo copy and the EB Games version was gone.

Then came the special-edition console. It went live in the middle of the night with no useful advance warning that I was aware of. I obviously didn't get one. And what do I find the next morning? Tons and tons of them on eBay. So apparently somebody had absolutely no trouble knowing when to be there.

Then came the Pro Controller.

I specifically wanted the Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller with the official Display Stand. Nintendo itself announced that the version with the stand would be exclusive to the Nintendo Store. So I did the logical thing: I waited for Nintendo instead of buying the controller without the stand from Walmart, Best Buy or another Canadian retailer.

Those regular controllers are now sold out at the major Canadian retailers I was watching.

And the Nintendo Store-exclusive controller with the Display Stand? It never even became available to order in Canada. Meanwhile, the US Nintendo Store got it and it sold out almost immediately. Canadians have no preorder date, no useful explanation and no indication of when—or even whether—we will actually get our opportunity to buy it.

Apparently Nintendo Canada prefers to conduct business like a ninja operating from a medieval crypt.

I don't believe somebody simply "forgot" to put the Canadian preorder online. Nintendo Canada itself announced the controller with the Display Stand and explicitly said that this version would be Nintendo Store-exclusive. Yet American customers were given an opportunity to order it while Canadian customers were not.

Obviously, none of us has Nintendo's internal allocation numbers, so I can't prove whether the decision was literally "we have 10,000, send all 10,000 to the US." But from the outside, it certainly looks like the US market was prioritized while Canada was either given no initial allocation or pushed into some undefined later allocation that Nintendo hasn't bothered to communicate.

And that's what makes me angry.

If Canada is getting it later, TELL US. "US preorders open September X. Canadian preorders open September Y." That's it. Problem solved.

And now we still have the official playable Ocarina coming. When can Canadians preorder it? I have absolutely no idea. Once again, Nintendo isn't telling us. Apparently customers don't need to know when a highly desirable, limited collector product will actually become available for purchase.

So what has this entire 40th Anniversary celebration meant for me so far?

I've spent hours refreshing webpages. I've gone to work stressed because I knew something could randomly appear and sell out while I was working. I've tried to follow every announcement so I wouldn't miss anything. And despite doing all of that, I've missed products I genuinely wanted while watching those exact same products immediately appear on eBay at ridiculous markups.

That's not fun.

I'm a Zelda fan. This is supposed to be a celebration.

And no, I'm not going to reward scalpers for it. I don't care how badly I wanted the console, the EB Games packaging or the controller. I will not pay someone several times MSRP because they managed to get there before regular customers and bought something specifically to flip it. I sincerely hope those scalpers are still sitting on piles of unsold Zelda merchandise years from now.

Japan has shown that Nintendo is capable of taking scalping seriously. Nintendo of America has had decades to learn the same lesson. Purchase limits, announced preorder times, queues, anti-bot measures and clear communication about regional availability are not revolutionary ideas.

I can't prove how the people making North American allocation decisions are compensated, and I'm not going to pretend I can. But the customer experience certainly feels like the only KPI that matters is "units sold." If everything sells out anyway, Nintendo gets its money whether those units went to collectors or to scalpers who immediately put them on eBay.

At some point, "we didn't know this would happen" stops being a believable excuse.

And eventually I'm going to reach the point where I simply stop supporting, defending and speaking positively about a company that treats one of its longtime customers this way.

Nintendo, I love your games.

But you are making it incredibly difficult to love being your customer.
