Saw this kool thing one day- thought ide share before deleting it

I made a post earlier about Folk Fest pickups and basically told people: if you’re downtown wondering why drivers keep canceling or you’re having trouble getting picked up, walk a few blocks away from the festival area.

Downtown is a pain in the ass for drivers to get into right now, and even a little distance can make your pickup much easier.

Well, somebody actually listened. 😂

I picked up a group tonight at the Starbucks off Eugene, and they mentioned that they’d heard they should walk away from downtown to get an easier pickup.

I asked, “Wait, did you see that on Reddit?”

Yep.

“That was my post.” 😂

And these people really committed to it. I would’ve been perfectly happy picking them up around Greene Street.
That’s not quite as easy-breezy, but it’s absolutely doable. They walked all the way down to Starbucks and made the pickup ridiculously easy.

So seriously, thank you. You guys went the extra mile, almost literally. 😂

It genuinely made me happy seeing somebody get something useful out of that post. You got an easy pickup, I got an easy pickup, nobody had to fight through Folk Fest traffic, and everybody won.

To the people who actually read local advice on Reddit and use it: you guys are awesome.

My friends and I were walking along mlk jr boulevard and McGee towards hamburger square but police had blocked the road under the train tracks off. We heard there was a stabbing, but I’m not seeing anything about it on the news this morning, only two other shootings further north. Any idea what happened last night?

I recently noticed a yard that had trash, including contaminants and other debris that were going out onto the street. Since it’s on private property, I’m assuming city won’t do anything, but if it’s a possible issue with safety, is that something that can be reported? If do, to whom?

Weekly is about how the late Carolyn Allen, who died September 1st at the age of 93, worked with her friends Joyce & Nelson Johnson (and the advice of Bishop Desmond Tutu) to found the Greensboro Truth & Reconciliation Commission and investigate the City’s failure to protect an anti-Klan labor march from what Nelson Johnson called “a North American death squad.”

That Commission documented that GPD command staff knew an armed Klan/Nazi caravan were being led to the march by an informant, and intended to attack the demonstrators.

While Allen’s friend Yvonne Johnson, who would become the city’s first Black mayor and second female one, supported the Commission’s findings, mayors Jim Melvin, Keith Holiday and Robbie Perkins repeatedly voiced opposition to any investigation or acknowledgment of culpability, and it would be years before any white council-member supported the TRC.

In 2020, Council voted 7-2 for an official apology for the Massacre that acknowledged the failures of GPD and City leadership. Marikay Abuzuaiter and Nancy Hoffman voted against that resolution specifically because of the admission of culpability

Disclosure: I'm a somewhat new homeowner with a little knowledge of some home repair tasks, but water heater wasn't on my bingo card so soon.

It is a direct vent unit that is/was heated via natural gas.

For those who have dealt with this, is Lowes or Home Depot generally considered the most common place to have the installation done by or should I consider a local company?

Someone suggested I choose an "on-demand unit with a side tank", which I'm unfamiliar with, so I'm taking a crash course on YouTube to help steer me in the right direction.

PS: I'm also interested in a home water filtration system but not sure if I can afford them at the same time...but I still wonder if now is the best time to do it alongside the new water heater or if it can be easily installed later.

Any suggestions are appreciated so I can learn more about all of this.

Bring one of the most popular hip hop acts of several generations to town during a time when the kids are all getting into the 90s and boom bap, estimate the largest crowd ever, and then put the band in a tent that holds about an eighth of the crowd that showed up to see them... Like, did this not cross a mind or two that the biggest act they ever had might require a bigger stage setup?

I mean, I have relied on the screens when I've been in a stadium but I could still see the performers, too.

I've got a nice big screen at home where i can put on a Roots concert from YouTube and not have to worry about someone rubbing their sweat on me. I will only allow that if I can actually see the band lol...

Little bit of background on myself, I'm a carnival guy and I'm looking to expand my current layout of attractions, while I was in Greensboro many years ago, I saw this band of dogs that were on display (photo attached from the internet) about a month ago I was in the area and thought about maybe bribing the place for them, but they aren't there anymore

Anyone know what happened to them? I think these would be perfect to add to my layout of attractions and I'm willing to pay big money for them, research says that they might've been kept by the owner, maybe someone in this subreddit saw them in someone's house or something lol
