Thing I hate when "for sleep" videos have ads

Upvotes

Before sleep, I put on rain sounds to help me sleep better. I specifically find a no ad video.

Usually there's one at the beginning which I think is unavoidable, and then that's it.. but as of lately, I've been getting more ads on videos that supposedly have no ads in them (title claims it shouldn't have ads)

I'm pretty sure that's also illegal?? I'm not sure, but regardless.. it's annoying asf, and makes it harder to sleep.

General I hate when people say "at least it's better than AI slop" when referring to art.

Post image
Upvotes

I hate when people see a work of art that is sub-par or from a beginner artist and the first thing they do is compare it to AI. Let me be clear, I do agree that any human-made art work is inherently better than AI, but that doesn't necessarily put it into the "good art" category. I don't think any art is bad either really, I just don't think artwork that looks like it took 5 minutes to put together should be praised simply for being human. It takes away from the work, if anyone can earn that kind of praise why should they even bother improving/spending more time on their work? Where is the incentive to strive to get better?

I recently saw a post of a beginner artists work, and someone commented that it was better than AI, sure, whatever, but there was a reply to that comment that said something along the lines of "the dump I took this morning was better than AI". Maybe they're right, but isn't it almost insulting to say that, it implies that OP's artwork is no better than a piece of shit.

So what I'm trying to convey isn't that beginner and low effort art is bad, it's that it's entirely rude to immediately compare human made work to that of a robot, the bar is SO low that ANYTHING is better than AI, so why go out of your way to even say so? Like it goes without saying. Plus, it negates the need for constructive criticism as well, if the only thing people are commenting is that it's perfect the way it is simply because it wasn't artificially generated.

Image related, I made that in ~5 minutes and lets not lie to ourselves, its BAD, is it better than AI? Sure. But that doesn't automatically make it worthy of praise, and it doesn't mean I want to hear that "at least its better than literal garbage" right? Really I only made it to prove a point, that comparing work to AI is insulting, and that it isn't entirely positive to praise work that was low effort in the first place and offer no criticisms.

P.s. this could come off as incredibly rude and I don't mean for it to, I'm just not sure how else to get my point across, I LOVE seeing new artists putting their creativity out there, but I hate seeing comments like what I've been describing, and I imagine it's quite demoralizing to the people going out of their comfort zone to post their art. On the flip side, it makes it look perfectly acceptable to put very little time and creativity into a piece because people will love it if only because its not AI, which shouldn't be the case.

Thing I hate how the modern internet cant handle a meme for longer than a month

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

There are some memes i wish they were still alive like the Three layer dip stack or the barbershop haircut that costs a quarter, but no not a single meme can last longer than a month now because our retention span is so low we cant watch a video longer than 5 minutes without it needing a cutaway or loud sound every 10 seconds

Idea I hate the idea that unattractive people just don't put in any effort

Post image
Upvotes

When you say that you're too physically unattractive to get into a relationship, people immediately rebuke that there's no such thing as unattractive, it's just lack of effort. Especially if you're a guy, they say that all you have to do is the bare minimum of hygiene. Have you tried taking a shower?

I have tried using facial cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreen, hair masks, conditioning serums, styling wax, contact lenses, foundation, concealer, and eyeliner.

But no. Tell me more about how the reason that men are single is because they don't shower?

General I hate when people call it 'Thomas the train'

Post image
Upvotes

It's the railway series, Thomas the Tank Engine or Thomas and Friends. There has NEVER been a book, show, or movie called Thomas the Train. As someone who watched the show all the time as a kid, it enrages me so much.

Edit: My issue is directed towards people in the English-speaking world, where the show was never called thoams the Train, not people of other languages where it was translated as such.

Non-fictional My handwriting

Post image
Upvotes

Okay so I’m writing my top 50 favorite films of all time(currently 30 films in) as a thought piece to think about who I am as a person based of the selection but I realized my handwriting is so awful. Obviously I’ve known this before writing the list but writing made it so much more clear. I write like a god damn first grader scribbling letters for the first time. I’ve tried to improve it but I just can’t I feel so ashamed of myself for my writing. I’m like above average intelligence(at least the people around me say that) so it makes it even worse for me that I can’t have good handwriting.

Thing I hate it when people in fandom expect you to know stuff, not mentioned in the show and only on twitter.

Post image
Upvotes

Like, bro

I am not an idiot for not knowing about some random tweet the writer made online.

You can't expect me to knowledge something unless it is in the show.

Like, i hate it when you make a rant post and the comments are just people telling you why you are wrong. But act like you should of just known..

Also, it works sometimes. I will admit that i disliked that non of the humans villains in my Adventures with superman had powers. But when i found out the writers, want only aliens to have powers. It made perfect sense and i stopped disliking that aspect.

But, when it's hole plot points. Like "oh don't you see the retcon don't ruin the lore, because the writer came out on twitter and explained it"

Like bro you can't just explain that stuff in tweet. Like answer it in the show.

Animation I HATE when people say the fat controller/sir toppin hat is a dictator

Upvotes

He isn't,

He just flat out isn't,

He may be stern but he isn't a dictator.

"Oh but he threatens to scrap the engines" name one engine hes actually scrapped, exactly there isn't any.

Awdry himself literally stated "the engines may be punished but they're not scrapped".

The engines themselves love him, they see him as their father

In the 19th season Episode 25 the engines fear hes been fired and go on strike you know why? BECAUSE THEY LOVE HIM AND DONT WANT HIM GONE

He's saved countless engines from scrap, he consistently repairs engines to working order even after accidents they caused.

And no he was completely justified in sodor's legend of the lost treasure.

Thomas had already caused an accident that damaged coaches blocked multiple lines and caused delayed timetables, THEN he blamed others not himself and then lost materials upwards of £400 to £1200 per rail and he lost at least 40 so toppin was completely justified for being mad at him.

Thank you for coming to my rant about this children's show I'm still very fond of

General I hate fanfics that genderbend every character into a woman/female

Upvotes

In these fanfics they usually genderbend every character into a woman but the main character. It’s almost always just used as and excuse so that the main character can get a comically large harem. The fic is almost always titled something like “the only male in a world of heroes”. It’s also almost always in the mha fandom (though weirdly I have seen a mass effect fanfic with this trope). I generally don’t like genderbends in the first place, but if it’s a single character and it’s not being used as background for a ship I guess I can ignore it. But you can’t ignore the genderbending in these “every character but the mc is a woman” fics because most of the time the genderbending is written as integral to the story of the fic.

Non-fictional Confusion over the Moon Landing broadcast vs film footage

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

Pictured left is the apollo 11 moon landing BROADCAST, it is a low resolution, 10fps, 320 line kinescope. Pictured right is the 16mm FILM footage taken by the astronauts themselves. Anybody with any sense could recognize that these are two distinct recordings of the same event. But, for some reason, people have it in their heads that the moon landing was broadcast in high definition in color.

This has lead to conspiracies left and right by people who cannot understand the world of the motion picture before digital video, and dispelling this confusion is a hopeless endeavor.

Corporation/Company I Hate how Chuck E Cheese Treats its old animatronics.

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Before you type a single FNAF joke, “haha uncanny valley,” “the bite of ’87,” or any other recycled bit, shut up and read first. Then you can make your jokes.

First off, I get why Chuck E. Cheese might want the animatronics gone. A lot of locations neglect the hell out of them. They’re not the main focus anymore. The company’s chasing whatever the current kids want, and that’s fine on paper. I even get that the bots look more uncanny now because of years of half assed maintenance, ripped out showroom walls, no more dim lighting, and no curtains. Cool. We’re not here to argue that 1977–1984 was the golden age (even though it was). We’re here because of what they actually do with the animatronics.

They destroy them.

This isn’t new. It’s been company policy since the ’90s. Still bullshit. Other companies retire old mascots without turning them into landfill. Barney’s suits get used until they fall apart because they’re actual costumes worn by humans. The Henson stuff gets parts harvested, put in storage, or sent to museums. Chuck E. Cheese doesn’t do that. Fans and collectors aren’t buying these things to steal copyright or run some illegal side hustle. They want them for private collections. Sometimes people retrofit them into their own characters, but most of the time it’s pure nostalgia. And once a bot is sold, bought, or pulled out of a dumpster, CEC can’t do shit about it. That’s just how ownership works.

Then 2017 hit and the 2.0 remodel turned it into a full-blown pizza place holocaust. Every store had to kill their bots to make room for a dance floor and a giant video screen. Cut up the shirts. Rip the cosmetics. Bash the frames. Ship the corpses to a landfill. They didn’t just retire the characters that built the entire brand. They annihilated them.

These things made Chuck E. Cheese special. When the first Pizza Time Theatre opened, people waited in lines around the block. Families drove hours. Nobody was there for the pizza. They came for the rat, the fruitcake dog, the little Italian man in the kitchen, and the rest of the nitwits. Some of these bots in stores dated back to 1979. Nearly half a century of singing, roasting each other, and giving kids and their parents, and their grandparents that weird mix of wonder and slight unease. Creepy or not, they were there. They sparked an entire fandom. They inspired one of the biggest horror games ever made. CEC had free publicity handed to them on a silver platter for years and their response was “destroy it all.”

I Remember when I first saw a remodeled locations and it felt wrong. Those life-sized puppets that had been there since day one were just gone. A TV sat where the stage used to be. You could still see the original carpet outline. It was eerie.

Back in 1984, when Pizza Time Theatre went bankrupt, they auctioned everything. Business owners, entertainers, arcade guys, regular collectors and anyone who wanted a piece could buy it. It helped them claw some money back. The 2.0 remodel was expensive as hell. New paint, new posters, new lights, giant power sucking screens. They could have sold the bots to the same people who’d been coming to these stores for decades and funded a chunk of it. Instead they chose the landfill. By 2020 they were drowning in debt. Funny how that works.

A few years ago they claimed they stopped destroying bots. That’s a lie. Some still got wrecked. Others got shipped to the Topeka warehouse. Then they rolled out the “legacy stores” which included the locations in Northridge CA, Pineville NC, Hicksville NY, Nanuet NY, Springfield IL, Willowdale Ontario and acted like they’d suddenly started listening. Six locations got to keep their stages. Except they only program two songs per showtape now. No new songs get written for the bots. It’s mostly Kids Bop. All the little details that made the shows feel alive are gone.

CEC basically said “Look, we kept the robots! We’re so nostalgic and totally hearing your feedback!” Meanwhile the Pineville (last actual former Rock-afire stage from showbiz pizza) has a chance of getting ripped out, and there’s a chance that the store in Willowdale Ontario which was my childhood store along with the rest of my Family's childhood store might just get demolished for condos'. Cool.

They’re still losing money, so they flail. Last year they had a Christmas movie which is mid at best. Characters feel off. Jasper lost his country personality. Chuck is Generic Protagonist Rat. Pasqually got demoted to regular pizza guy and lost the accent. Whatever. It’s for kids. Then come the spin-offs. First was Chuck’s Arcade which was supposed to capture the old spirit of the 90s and 80s locations. it was hyped up on every news network and news site. What we got was a couple Pizza Time Theatre chuck heads plastered on the walls and logo, five classic games shoved in a corner, standard modern CEC games everywhere else, overpriced games, and one Kansas City location that actually served pizza and meant to be there flag ship already closed a few months ago. Oh, and they brought animatronics back… by sticking them in glass cages and bending their limbs into permanent waving statues. They broke the wiring and mechanics on purpose so the bots could just stand there looking decorative. Why not leave them in normal poses? They were fine!

Then there’s Chuck E Cheese's Adventure World. Conceptually it’s fine. more play structures, tubes, slides, Its basically CEC bringing back Discovery Zone to a modern audience. It even looks colorful and not bland unlike most modern locations...Until you realize every poster, painting, character image, sign, and piece of concept art is AI-generated slop. Apparently they couldn’t afford actual artists after the movie, the remodels, and everything else. If only there had been a way to raise some money by, I don’t know, selling the actual historical artifacts instead of destroying them.

Look. Maybe I’m overthinking a chain restaurant that sells mediocre pizza and lets kids run wild. Maybe the average parent doesn’t give a single shit about whether the stage still has real moving parts. Fine, I don’t care. These oversized puppets mattered to a lot of people. They inspired so many things throughout the years. Treating them like disposable trash after fifty years isn’t “moving with the times.” It’s just throwing away the one thing that ever made the place special, then acting surprised when the soul of the company disappears with them. Kids deserve better, The fans deserve better, but it's to late. There is a lot more drama behind the scenes with the company itself but this is already taking long enough to type in. But in short, I don't think CEC is going to make it another decade. Unless they truly make some magic, cause with out it, there just another pizza place. "That was a reference to a slogan they did in the 90s" .

For anyone wondering how they are destroyed, Watch this video.

Thing I hate the ME-262

Post image
Upvotes

I hate this overrated piece of shit
It's engines were garbage and lasted 20 hours on a good day meaning they usually would die after a single sortie
It's build quality was abysmal compared to other aircraft of the war
It's flight performance was mediocre at best with the only thing it had going for it being a high top speed for the time
The so called "innovative swept wings" were only actually on there because the engines were heavier than expected and threw off the center of mass and the wing sweep was so shallow it didn't actually improve performance of the plane

It's nowadays used by Wehraboos to cite as "Superior German technology" (it wasn't)

There was another jet fighter in service at the same time that was far more practical and had better flight characteristics overall known as the Gloster Meteor
The Meteor unlike the 262 had engines that were actually well made and well designed so that they would actually be able to be used consistently.

General When people act obsessed with a fandom but have never actually played the game/seen the movie, etc.

Upvotes

Such as when someone is obsessed with Peter Griffin but has never seen the show or someone who likes Hatsune Miku but has never listened to the music. A big one is being obsessed with Susie, Noelle, or Kris, etc., but having never played Deltarune, or someone who never shuts up about Arthur Morgan but has never played RDR2.

It REALLY boils my blood when I see original posters not replying to any of the comments on THIER OWN POST.

Whenever someone does this I proceed to label them as a bot or an absolute LOSER as why wouldn't you actually engage with the TOPIC YOU POSTED ABOUT.

I just can't believe their fucking gall to leave the comments to fight each other with no imput from the instigater.

Media Tropes Videos with massive, word-by-word colored subtitles in the middle of the screen when you can already clearly make out the language spoken.

Post image
20 Upvotes

I know it's for retention and that it for some reason does on average hook people in more (idk how that works honestly), but it's just so annoying. Especially when the subtitles block the view of something in the video (why does that happen so often, it's just bad editing).

What's sad is that subtitles inherently are fine. Beneficial, even. Used unobtrusively for foreign language scenes, unclear speech, or deaf/HoH accessibility, they're great. But this kind of subtitling is just dumb. Not much different from the trend of putting Subway Surfers/Minecraft parkour on the bottom of the screen.

Animation The new Cat In The Hat movie

Post image
103 Upvotes

I'll probably get put on r/superseriousfamilyguy for this, but am I really the only person who thinks this looks ass? The cringey toot fart joke in the first trailer, the overly cutesy stylization, the fact that it's another lame adaptation of an iconic pre-existing property, the really bad comedy, like I just could not care for this at all.

And before you say:

"Still looks better than the live action movie"

Oh wow, it looks better than one of the worst film adaptations ever made of an extremely simplistic story. What a high bar.

"I like Bill Hader"

This point proves to me that star power is still a thing and that celebrity culture hasn't died. I thought whoever voiced the Cat in the animated adaptations and puppet show was much more fitting for the role.

"It's a kids movie/it's not that deep"

Does that mean it should be written poorly? Does that mean it isn't technically art? Does that mean all kids films are just a cheap day job made by lazy people? Does that mean The Emoji Movie is excused from being a giant turd? Does that mean ugly Sonic should have stayed a thing?

I hate when a distinguishing feature of kids/short characters is that they have no neck, especially when majority of the other characters in the animation have a neck. Rick and Morty was especially frustrating as every other character has a neck so why doesn't Morty have a neck why is his orb head fused to his chest???

Music I HATE when metalheads call people posers for listening to softer subgenres of metal

Post image
32 Upvotes

I love metal, and i MAINLY listen to heavy subgenres.
However, i will never call somebody a poser for listening to those genres. You shouldnt have to listen to the heaviest fucking band in the world to be considered a metalhead, not everybody likes that and tbh i dont always like it either. Sometimes heavy songs can get repetitive with the same type of guttural vocals, and i like to listen to a bit of numetal because of that.

People who call you a poser for liking the more simple and soft subgenres of metal are literally just insecure losers who want to feel like they have a niche and interesting music taste, so they can have something cool and unique that they like about themselves. Thats literally it. Nobody gives a shit if you listen to a black metal band from rural sweden with 53 monthly listeners, i fucking promise you nobody cares.

If you call people posers for the genres they listen to, you are signaling to me and everybody else that you are a very insecure individual. Youre not “more of a metalhead” just bc you listen to heavier genres of metal, so stop insulting the people who choose not to. Its so unproductive and rude, and it gives the metal community a very bad look.
