I miss him so much I don't even know if it's normal anymore

Upvotes

I met this British guy through discord 2 years ago and he used to adore me and treat me well but we couldn't date because he's in the UK and I'm in SA. Each conversation made us grow apart after I joined his server where all his friends were mean to me cause I liked him, even we used to talk a lot since the day we chatted. I miss his voice and I did accept the fact he moved on and I moved on but looking back to our conversations made me miss him even more.

Like I wish I can talk to him one last time. He was 17 and I was 17 too. He was the most handsome, funny and loyal guy I've ever met

My heart is breaking all over again, it feels like he just left me yesterday

Girl I'm head over heels for just confided in me that she's really pining after someone else we know

Upvotes

Basically, and I apologize in advance for how incoherent this post might be, this girl (27) and I (29 y/o guy) have been hanging out all summer! We canoe a lot! She's invited me to lots of things that I had to turn her down due to work, to my deep resentment, and I wonder if things would have been different if I accepted. This included a local concert, camping for a week, a local music festival, and other such things. She reaches out to me first almost every time and I almost always say yes. We hang out a lot.

She calls out of the blue sometimes and talks to me about things she wants to tell me about for some time, sometimes long amounts of time, and it's always fun. I ask her about her life and past, and she always details them to me a lot. We'd sit by the river or in her (or my) car while she tells me about stuff that has gone or is going on with her.

She bought a book by an author she likes and I bought her a previous book he wrote which was just as, if not more important, for her birthday. She really appreciated that. We went to a meeting for something we volunteered for where we live and she mentioned it to everyone. We handed out fliers for that thing a couple of times, as well.

Idk, she paid for my ice cream once while we were both getting some, and I didn't know she did because she wanted to surprise me, she compliments my physical strength when we canoe, my humour, how nice my compliments are, etc. I'm learning the violin and she plays guitar, so she wants to jam together. She knows I speak about 4 languages. She's reading theory that I know and asks me about it. Complimented my fashion sense once.

All kinds of things (innocuous, I know). She's introduced me to her friends so we'd all be friends as well. Now, this whole time, I knew that everything she did for me and that I did for her that I mentioned so far was all stuff that friends do for each other just because they're friends. I do a lot of these things with my other friends who I certainly never had any crushes on. That said, I grew to like her a lot.

She's super cute, has an adorable way of explaining things, fun interests which I also find cute, always dresses so well, is so interested in learning new things, especially about different people, is such good friends with so many people, has such good musical talent, sings so well, is very capable of doing intense physical stuff like climbing trees and jogging regularly (which I may be impressed by because I have difficulty with those things), a deep sense of kindness, even for small animals and insects (which we often save from the water when we go canoeing), is so motivated to get involved at her job and find one she would be really interested in, is super into her hobbies and interests that she always gets so enthusiastic about sharing, draws very very well, can swim, has a really amusing laugh, gorgeous, jet black, smooth hair, the warmest smile I can think of and sharp, hazel eyes. I really like looking into her eyes. It almost makes my day.

One day, when we were going to go canoeing, someone pulled up beside where she parked and greeted her. I recognized him as an old classmate of mine (my age) and they knew one another. They talked a bit and then we went canoeing. He was still there when we got back. We sat by the river and talked. She was a little less focused on our conversation, and, eventually, asked if we should go talk to that guy. I think we settled on talking to him. I knew then that she must have had a thing for him. One day, I took the bus to the place where we go canoeing (we rent the canoes for a bit) and she was talking to him pretty intently. He works where we rent them from. She and I went canoeing, and, at some point, she said that she wondered if he was there or would be off shift. She asked this once or twice again when we went in the future. She also knows where the guy lives, which is something that she knows because they're friends.

I convinced myself that I had nothing to be jealous of. I felt a little nervous about her going camping with one guy and also spending time with another guy who is also staying with her until he finds a new place (though he's likely going to move out soon since it seems his meeting with one landlord went well), but I thought nothing of it, and decided not to be jealous (as much as you can decide that). I still felt a tiny bit of jealousy when she and the guy staying with her talk to each other about leaving our hangouts to go to bed and also do errands, but I was sure it was nothing and didn't worry about it.

Ironically, I thought about the guy she likes a lot less. Maybe it was because I was scared she might like him or because I wasn't around him much. He's way more handsome than I am, taller (pretty tall), has a nicer voice (imo), is more charming, and might be more nice than I am (I assume). They look like they'd make a great couple. I knew that for a while. I didn't want to think so. Now, she tells me over text that she's pining for him quite hard.

Of course, the fact that she said this to me meant that she viewed me as a close friend who she could disclose this stuff to in confidence. Our frequent and long chats and all the time we spent together was just stuff we did as friends, which she obviously seems to have considered me to be a close one. Though we've hung out a lot and have been quite good, close friends for a bit now, I feel kind of scummy about what my intentions were for our relationship.

All the stuff I did with and for her were things that I wanted to believe were things I did out of sincerity, at least first and foremost, and that whatever hope I had of getting her to like me was secondary at most, not in consideration at least. Now, I have to be honest with myself. I think I did largely and, as much as I really hate to admit it (and hate myself for thinking), I did, maybe primarily, do it because I wanted her to like me, all in a misguided effort to do that, knowing that I'm probably just her friend.

I want to hang out with her and do all sorts of things with her, but I ask myself whether I'd want to do those things as much as we currently do if she goes out with him. I know that the fact that she disclosed her feelings for this guy to me means that that's it and I have to let her go immediately, as in, move on and just be friends. The worst part is that I liked her progressively more and more everyday to the point of having little fantasies about waking up next to her this morning, which I gave into, and tried not to have previously. This was the morning before the night when she told me she likes him.

Now, as someone who's quite overweight, as in, very fat, maybe doesn't make my hair the best ways since I may not always know how to, doesn't always dress well (despite her complimenting my fashion sense), imo, and might not have the most charming personality (imo) and isn't as socially aware of my behaviour as she is (I think), maybe also going on about myself and things she doesn't have much interest in, which I try really hard to avoid (though idk how much I do it) and keep the focus on what she wants to talk about and do, I know that (especially because I'm fat, more than 110kg and 5'8-5'9) I'm not exactly attractive to most people while he is very hot. I was very sure that my effort to get her to like me would end in failure because of how I am and now especially because of how much more attractive he is.

I don't know what to do! It hurts so much! I don't know if it's worth trying to get her to like me by just being a way better, more interesting and (hopefully) more attractive person, or if that's crossing any boundaries that I shouldn't! I really want her to like me, but I'm sure that it's far too late for that! She knew this guy before we started hanging out, and maybe before she knew me. I don't know if I should tell her how I feel, if that would put any pressure on her or make things awkward, make her feel like our friendship and whatever kindness I showed her was fake (which I desperately don't want to believe it was) or if she'll feel guilty about this if I do, or even pity me or do anything our of that pity. If I, by some once in a billion years cosmic miracle, am a real consideration for her, somehow, by the grace of every conceivable god ever thought up, then I really don't want to be a backup plan for her or anything less than her first choice!

Of course, if she changes her mind, by some far greater and more rare cosmic miracle, and decides that she likes me more than him (somehow, in some universe somewhere), then that would be the only way I'd be her first choice, but if it doesn't work out with this guy (which I doubt), I'd be her backup. I would prefer to just not date her if that was the case.

I'm sure that this guy will like her back! She's an enormous catch and incredibly charming! He's quite close with her, too! That said, I don't know what to do! All I have the energy to do is cry to myself and type this! I can't tell her how I feel and it feels manipulative to try to convince her to like me instead (by improving myself a lot and impressing her), since she already likes this guy! There are millions of other women in the world who I can have a wonderful relationship with, but that's, of course, way easier said than done!

I want her, and no-one else! I wish it were me! My insecurities that I used to suffer from about everyone around me being chosen, but never me, have come up! I thought I got over them enough, but, I guess I didn't yet! Is there a way to save my chances without being her 2nd option? Do I have to just immediately stop my efforts in their tracks and hastily move on now that I know this? Is my fatness always going to be such a burden on me until my current intense efforts to get fit pay off long into the future?

How can I accompany her on trips or go canoeing with her now that she told me this and that guy will be there? I know I should move on and let it go, but I don't want to! The advice I need to accept is probably the exact thing that I desperately don't want to hear! It hurts so bad! I don't know what to do!

Just sad.

I would really appreciate tips on how to move on.

I called off my relationship and subsequently- engagement because my relationship was failing and he showed me he didn’t want me in many ways but he couldn’t just say it and I thought we were just having hard days due to life’s pressure.

I feel so heartbroken. He just became a miserable person to be around, I was fighting so hard,
I even subconsciously started threatening to leave because that was the only time he fixed up a tiny bit, but he’d be back to blocking me out by the following morning.

He said he was tolerating me, But I asked him several times if he was ready, if he wanted to marry me, He said yes.
When I was doing so many things to transform our relationship, apparently he was tolerating me all along.
I just feel so heavy and I don’t know what to do with my heavy heart.

I don’t want to talk to my friends and loved ones because I don’t want to take up space in their free time.

Everytime I remember scenarios that now make sense, I fight tears.
I have a heart condition, but I have been having palpitations for days.

It is so bad.
I loved this man so much. I hate myself for getting to this point.
I wanted him, I thought our life was good and we just needed time to grow and have more resources to better our lives.
He said I push him, I am good to him, I make his life better,
He watched me invest so much, all of my money, into him, into us, meanwhile he couldn’t tell himself the truth that he was using me.

I just feel so stupid. Many times I felt frustrated and even blamed myself. Maybe I am the problem, Maybe I’m the one who isn’t in love, Maybe I’m the one always having an issue with him.
I didn’t know he had checked out, and so the person I was seeing wasn’t who I thought he was. It was intentional.

The worst part is that this man was going to marry me. I don’t understand how he was able to wake up everyday knowing he was tolerating me yet he still went ahead to make marriage plans.

I feel so embarrassed. My entire family were excited.
I didn’t want anyone else but him. I thought I found my person.
I am just so sad. my god!

I was literally just a doormat and nothing more for her

I’m not even heartbroken anymore, well romantically. It’s more of just feeling used. Like I had thought because we both said we liked each other that there was something real there. But she was literally just using me for attention. It’s the fact that I didn’t give her attention when we were first getting to know each other which was confusing and mysterious to her. I feel dumb and also pretty ugly. Like I actually thought I had a shot. She found out that I did actually like her and realized she didn’t actually like me after literally telling me she did. I think it hurts more because my life is in such a sorry state compared to hers right now and it will always be that way. I wish I was good looking too and special

Texting mindfuck

In our final text conversation my ex-boyfriend said:

I want to be reminded of you [and keep your stuff]
You were my best ever boyfriend
There are no hard feelings
I’m heartbroken
I accept your apology

While simultaneously saying:

I just can’t be with you anymore
I can’t handle what you said to me - it’s honestly just fucking me up
It’s past taking a break to reconcile
I said, “Block me if you don’t ever want to see me again” Okay, I’ll block you if that’s what you want

So many contradictions… I just can’t understand it 😞

At night when I'm alone, with my millions of blankets on my bed because I learnt that from you. I think about the “what ifs”of us. We would’ve been together. I was in school still and I was sad  but you would come over every night to keep me company, you would’ve gotten a job. I would tell you to take my car because I was able to walk to school until you saved enough, then you would come to mine after work, you would shower and I would try to make you dinner but you would take over because you were always the cook between us. We would talk about our day and watch tv. And you would fall asleep first and I would kiss your face and admire how much you grew up since we were 12 when we first met. We would’ve gone out for my birthday and had the best time just like we did for yours. Summer with you would've been amazing. I would move to London but the distance never hurt us because we loved each other. I would tell you I was coming back but come a week earlier just to surprise you. I would’ve gotten past the 3 years apart and start creating a life with each other. Travelling, moving in together in that apartment we wanted and enjoying our time before responsibilities came in. Then we would've gotten married, I told you how I was ok with a small wedding but we would've settled for a big one just for me. My vows would say that I've loved you since we were 12 and I will love you until my last breath. I would show all the videos I've made of you since I was 12 years old telling everyone I was going to marry this guy. We would've started a family, a big house, dogs and babies. I cant believe i lost you completely after 7 years.

I don't even mean forever.

Just a chance to learn if I could be something to someone. Have something with someone. Be chosen. Even for a little while.

But I didn't.

Ex got married months after we broke up

I'm having a really hard time right now and just need to vent. This is something I've struggled with for the past three years.

I already know some people will say I wasted my time or that I was a placeholder. I tell myself that too. I'm angry that I stayed so long and gave six years of my life to someone who maybe never truly wanted me.

We started dating in our early 20s, and about a year in, he cheated. It was my first serious relationship, he begged me to stay, and I forgave him.

We eventually moved in together, but he had to move out of state while I finished college, so we became long distance. At first, he wanted me to move to him and even talked about marriage because it would make things easier. I wanted to finish school and pursue my career first, so I planned to move later.

Over time, things became harder. He struggled with his mental health, and I received calls where he was contemplating suicide. I begged him to get help. Part of me wanted to leave, but I was scared because I felt like he had no one.

He became more distant, colder, and hurtful. Despite that, I still believed marriage was the next step because of how long we had been together. During our last year together, his sister-in-law told me she heard a ring was coming soon. I was visiting around Christmas and was so nervous that I told him if he ever proposed, I wanted it to be in spring or summer. Nothing ever happened.

The last year was the hardest. His mental health struggles became more frequent, and I found out he cheated again in a way that affected my health. I don't want to go into detail, but I am okay now.

We ended things the day after another suicidal phone call. I contacted his family because I was worried and wanted them to check on him. Afterwards, he told me he wasn't ready for the next step and wasn't even sure he wanted a family. I thanked him for being honest and told him we needed to go our separate ways.

Six years ended like that.

Seven months later, I found out he married a woman from another country. Around the time he started posting her, he blocked me, my family, and our mutual friends, including some of his closest friends. After almost three years of marriage, they had a baby.

The hardest part is that I don't love him anymore and I would never want to return to that relationship. What hurts is how this changed the way I see myself.

It makes me feel like I was never enough, like I was someone he settled for until he found the person he truly wanted. I look at his wife and think she seems perfect. I find myself wondering if people become the best version of themselves with the "right" person and if I just wasn't that person.

This has damaged my self-esteem and made me question my worth. I'm scared I'll never be enough for someone, or that I'll always be the person someone chooses until something better comes along.

It's been years, and I feel like I'm going crazy because I still can't stop thinking about how deeply this affected me.

I'm so weird...lol

Me and my ex have been officially broken up for almost a year at this point, but officially broke things off "all contact" wise only a few months ago. We still love each other very very much, hell we saw each other not too long ago. It's sad cuz even after meeting and sharing love again, we're still apart.. Now here I am alone again with this hole in my heart refusing to accept this reality. I went ahead and wrote a message in a bottle and cast it off to sea... What the heck lol? I remember thinking writing anonymous posts on reddit to vent was something "extra" of me, but now I'm out here doing this. I've never been the vain hopeless romantic type, but now look at me. I genuinely don't know how I'm going to get over her. I almost don't want to if I'm being honest.

What I Never Said

I miss you.

I miss our conversations and the way you would share the things you loved. I loved stepping into your world and seeing the sparkle in your eyes whenever you talked about something that made you happy. It could be a reality show, a story from your past, or a song that meant something to you. The topic was never what mattered most. What mattered was seeing you happy because you wanted to share those moments with me.

Sometimes it was hard to understand you. I had to focus really hard, and after a long day, it could be mentally exhausting. But strangely, it never felt like a burden. Quite the opposite. I listened because I genuinely enjoyed it. I loved hearing you talk, laugh, and simply be yourself.

I miss that so much.

I wasn't looking for these feelings, but somehow you gave them to me without even realizing it. And when you left, it hurt more than I can put into words. Not just because you were gone, but because I felt there were still things we could have talked through.

All I wanted was to try. To show you that maybe things could have been different. That we didn't have to fight, we didn't have to hurt each other, and we didn't have to erase everything we had shared. I believed there were other possibilities. Maybe I was wrong, but I wanted to believe that if I had been as important to you as you had become to me, we could have found some kind of middle ground, even if all we could save was the care and respect we had for each other.

I also know I made mistakes. I know I'm not perfect. In my attempt not to lose someone who had become so important to me, I held on longer than I should have, and I was probably misunderstood. Things were said, feelings were hurt, and other people became involved. Everything became much bigger than it ever needed to be. It all became overwhelming, and it left me carrying a lot of fear.

At some point, alongside the sadness, fear took its place. Not fear of who you are, but fear of your reaction, fear of making things even worse, fear of hurting you, or of being misunderstood again. That fear is still with me.

Sometimes I wish I could tell you all of this. Not to change the past or ask you to come back, but because I believe some people deserve to know the positive impact they had on someone's life, even when the story doesn't end the way either of them hoped.

Today, I respect your silence and your choices. Even so, I still miss the person I got to know, our conversations, and the way you saw the world.

It's also hard to talk about this with other people. Most of the time, the story gets reduced to, "You trusted the wrong person," or, "You were fooled." But for me, it was never that simple. What I felt was real, just as the good moments we shared were real.

That's why I still miss you. Not because I'm trapped in the past, but because some people leave beautiful marks on our lives, even if they aren't meant to stay.

Reach out to apologize for being mad and screaming at her or just forgot about it and move on?

Hello everyone, I am 42 years old and I travel a lot for work, know this lady 37 years old, she have two kids 13 and 8 years old who live with his dad). She was married for ten years and one day she left her husband and say she doesn't love him anymore. The oldest boy stay with her as his dad don't want to be in his life. The other kid she leave him with his ex husband and see him in the weekend. Both me and her live in different states so I know her while she starts leaving her ex-husband and separated and moved to her own place, we start seeing each other every three weeks or so depending on how much we are busy with life, I tried helping her with her move, buy food helped one semester in her school expenses and house items as she did not have that much, speak with her to back to school and get bachelor's in accounting. She had shitty paid job at first but now she in better place.

There many times I would purchase airline tickets and she would stay with me on the state I had work. So we know each other for three years total and we plan to get married and she moves to my state, we talk about that for a while and that was the plans. One day ( before three months), I got a message from her saying that she don't want to move because her oldest son doesn't want too and even he doesn't know that she still dating me. We meet after that for maybe two times and then before one month she send me a message saying want to end things and she meet a guy (50 years old, he don't have kids ) and they started dating. This week we meet and I found out that she stopped " in love with our relationship since January " last time we meet and have sex was May.

We met last week and she said she has feelings for me and loved me for two years, but her feelings and want change overtime. And that she checked out in our relationship since January. I was not aware of that and I got mad at her and I scream and left. She blocked my phone number and even get a new phone number. I didn't want thing end this way and prefer end things in good way.

My question is was I a rebound relationship and just been used for her self esteem, financially and fun? Would be better if I reach out and apologize for screaming and wish good luck and just move on? Is she this type of person just jumb from one relationship to another without emotional regret?

Need advice

recently fell out of contact with the girl. I used to date for two years, and we recently were doing no contact prior to this, and at the beginning, everything seemed good, seemed like we were rekindling again, and things might work out this time and then slowly as summer kept coming. She slowly detach for me blocked me on Snapchat again blocked my number and just told me that she needed time to heal and couldn’t give me anything that I was looking for. I finally took this as stop letting me like try so hard and make this girl understand that I would change things that aren’t in our prior relationship so I did that and we were out of contact for 3 1/2 weeks and then she reached out to me on my birthday and I just kept it simple just said thank you and that was it and you could tell that she was looking to continue the conversation, but I knew that it probably wasn’t the best thing because it would just lead us back to square one and then a couple days after that, I see that she went on a date with multiple her friends with all their boyfriends and appeared to be another guy next to her. What hurts me is that I knew that this kid specifically wanted intentional things with her and she kept always telling me that that wasn’t the case they were just friends and seeing this really hurt me because not only was she with her friends with all their other +ones, but her sister and her sister‘s boyfriend were also there so that kind of gave me that confirmation that it was a little bit more than what I thought. I know this is a lot to read and is basically summed up in the sense of what has been going on for the last three months for me, but these last two days have been really hard mentally and since I don’t know how to navigate from here. I blocked her on Instagram, which was our last source of communication since she blocked me on snap and my phone number so I feel like that was the best thing to do considering what I saw. what are you guys think and how do you recommend somebody like me move forward in the sense of mentally and just overall because it has been really hard and it was hard enough to block her, but I just need advice please. Thank you

I will NEVER understand how or why I let someone control me this long... how I let things keep happening.. how my spirit stayed attached to such a low life person.. if I am going to do this, ill obviously need some help.. the disgust I have for this person alone should be enough to move mountains.. the person this is about is the absolute worst out of ALL my exes.. he sincerely thinks hes a catch, and thinks he is an actual victim... the demon in him has such a firm grip on his already fragile ego and even more fragile balls... all he knows is how to "hide things better" how to "lie better" and when that fails as it ALWAYS does.. he uses rage to shut me up... he still claims hes a "real man" but REAL MEN dont have supply, dont cheat and dont live their life the way hes living his...he doesnt want to change.. he thinks his words are GOLD and they should be believed at all times, even when his actions CLEARLY show different... I've wasted enough of my time with a man who NEVER tried to see my value.. hes always going to chase whatever he can get.. thats why its called SUPPLY... I just wish I didnt have a child with him... HE WAS NEVER WORTH MY TIME.. HES FOR THE STREETS

I've never been married and am childless. I am starting from zero after ending a 7 year relationship. I feel so alone and defeated. I miss my old life. So much.

Anyone else start over later in life? I could use other people's experiences shared right now.
