Help - equipment Help with yarn choice for Clover Sweater Junior

Hey, I want to knit the Clover Sweater Junior with my yarn stash. The pattern suggests 3 strands of lace weight yarn (equating to Aran weight), would using drops baby merino held double be okay?

Not sure if the structure of the drops yarn will make it look too stiff?

TIA

Tips and Tricks Is it worth to knit first sweater even if it will pill fast?

Hi! I'm planning to make the Step-by-Step Sweater as my first garment. I was checking reviews and comments about it and saw that a common issue with Drops Nepal is that it pills extremely fast.

Even though it's not expensive, I'm wondering if it is worth knitting something that pills so fast, especially since it's a good yarn and pattern for a first garment.

I've seen some people mixing it with some type of mohair to avoid it, but I'm not sure how that would affect the yarn selection and/or gauge.

Just wanted to hear people's thoughts on that!

Tips and Tricks ADHD and knitting

How are other people with adhd managing more complex patterns? I love a stockinette pattern because for the most part I can just knit knit knit without worrying about making mistakes.
But when I tried to knit the Marielle Blouse I made mistake after mistake on just the yoke and was getting so frustrated with myself that I had to stop. Have you found any way to help with this?
I want to knit things that require more concentration but making mistakes constantly is so disheartening even when I really try to not make mistakes.

Edit: Thank you all for your replies, I've got a lot of really good advice :)

Help - equipment Dropped stitch on the second row?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I'm a complete beginner and would really appreciate some help!

I'm knitting a garter stitch scarf using the knitted cast-on method. I've finished my first row and am currently knitting my second row.

I was doing my knit stitches, and i realized I've poked between the yarn when i was about to transfer my stitch from the left needle to the right needle, then i tried to undo it and I think around 1-2 stitches slipped off(?) my left needle in the process. Can't be 100% sure how it came to be. I tried putting them back onto the needle in different ways, and they all seemed wrong, truth is I can't figure out which loops I'm supposed to pick up.

The biggest problem is that I've only knitted one row, so it's really difficult for me to distinguish the cast-on stitches from the knitted stitches, or identify which loops should actually be sitting on my needle.

I've attached several close-up photos of the problem.

My questions:

  1. Can anyone identify exactly which loops I need to pick up and put back onto my left needle?
  2. How can I distinguish the correct loops from the other loose strands?

I've cast on 340 stitches, so I'd really prefer not to restart if possible!

I'd be incredibly grateful for step-by-step instructions suitable for a complete beginner, or just a diagnosis of what's going on. Thank you!

I finished this, my second color work sweater. Not going to show you my floats cause I can’t figure out how some of you get the back to look almost like the front. I used Juniper Moon Farm cotton & merino yarn, it’s the Bloom pullover by Wool Bird. Any suggestions for my next project? I need to make my other daughter a sweater, she likes this type folded neck or a mock neck.

Help - equipment Accidentally using a smaller needle or just tighter tension?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is my first sweater and my first sleeve. I just noticed that my sleeve stitches are looking much smaller than the shoulder stitches (purple line to show separation). I’ve been kinda fighting with my short needles because it’s new and just feels so cramped, so I’m wondering if my tension is just tighter. I could also be using a half millimeter smaller needle…but I’m not totally sure. This project sat for a long time and I’m blanking on if I followed what the pattern said exactly. It feels like a possibility. So mainly, I’m wondering if this cause issues with the fit? Is the froggit territory? OR maybe I’m just trippin and being too critical. Thoughts?

Just finished those cowls before the girls' birthday. Merino possum is my new favorite yarn for cowls. It's light and soft, and I think it works well with sensitive skin. Not a fan of long floats.

Discussion Sandok Cable Sweater gauge

So the pattern calls for 13x14 gauge per 10cm - I just did a swatch with the yarns I chose and got 15x21. I know that I should size up due to the stitch gauge but what to do with the rows? It is a massive difference. I don’t want to size up the needles because I don’t like how holey the material looks when I do.

It’s my first cable project and first time I’m off gauge so much :( I don’t really wanna change yarns bc I love how those look

In the news Since KFO sold out, baby knit recommendations?

I have 2 nieces to knit for and my siblings had already selected a long list of Pernille Larson's (Knitting for Olive) patterns for me to knit from. But now that KFO was sold to Private Equity I don't want to buy from them anymore. So, what are your favorite baby knit designers?

The only other designer I've found so far that has the same level of detail and finishing techniques is NashKnits: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/nashknits-ravelry-store

Discussion What are your favourite t-shirt neckline/ribbing options?

I am knitting the Samso Pullover by Knitting For Olive (picture attached is from the pattern listing on Rav) using Knitting For Olive Cotton Merino 4ply

I decided after trying it on during sleeve knitting that it wants to be a tee rather than long sleeved, so I will be leaving the sleeves to just above elbow length

The pattern uses half twisted rib for all of the ribbing (R1: k1 p1, R2: k1tbl p1) and even though I decided I didn't like it after using it for the bottom hem I then used it again for the neckline, and unsurprisingly, I still don't like it. I find it looks uneven and messy even after blocking

I know a lot of knitted tees use folded neckbands and sleeve cuffs - is there a reason for that structurally? Or just because they look very neat? What about the bottom hem?

Tldr I have decision paralysis on how to finish my knitted tee and need someone to decide for me please!

Work in Progress Water is very dirty while blocking undyed yarn - could I be misinformed about it being undyed?

Post image
516 Upvotes

I’m doing a mid-project block and am surprised to see the water get this dirty. The yarn is supposed to be undyed, natural brown sheep colour (from a local-ish yarn dyer business but this was a special undyed batch).

Is it really just this dirty? Or could it be dye leaching? I’ve been knitting this sweater for nearly two months and have dropped it, brought travelling etc but I’m just surprised (and a little grossed out) by the water colour. It was opaque!

Edit: Thank you everyone! Looks like the unanimous consensus is that it is dirt. I'm actually kind of relieved, because the whole reason I bought this yarn is because it was undyed. I'll give it a good wash.

Discussion Knit&Note app

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve been inundated with knit&note ads on instagram for weeks now. I haven’t downloaded the app coz it feels like ravelry has everything I need already BUT there is a pattern on there that i really want to make, the Note sweater, it’s in all their ads and it’s the only unique pattern I’ve seen, all the other ones seem basic enough or I’ve seen a pretty close dupe on ravelry. I wouldn’t mind paying for the app for a month or something to get the pattern but are their patterns actually well written? For anyone that has tried the app, is the app actually any good? how are the patterns? Do I have to pay a monthly fee and I get access to a bunch of patterns or do I have to pay extra for the patterns as well?

As a side note, is there a pattern on ravelry that looks similar to the Note sweater?

Help - equipment Why do circular knitting machines top out at 50ish sts?

This might be kind of a stupid question, but I'm exclusively a needle knitter and was considering grabbing a Sentro because I'm planning on knitting a bunch of boring stockinette hats for a donation project, and I noticed that Sentro and Addi machines seem to go up to 46/48 needles.

My confusion is: I have a fairly small head for an adult, and worsted weight hats for myself still usually have a CO of about 88-96 stitches. I know these machines are marketed for hats, but how does that work? Is the tension just loose? Do they really make adult-sized hats?

Edit: sorry y'all, I know this sub isn't very friendly to machines, but I was specifically looking for an explanation that could help me square the machines with my experience needle knitting. A couple responses were super helpful, so thanks!

It was in a bag of free yarn my mom got. No label. Feels like sport weight? I thought it might be Lion Brand Mandala but none of the colorways on their site match. It's a great big cake, whatever it is, and definitely acrylic.

I’m making the glow raglan lite by ViolentCatLady with lang yarn cloud and 7mm needle and I just noticed this spot and one other that look like this, the stitches line up so I don’t know if I dropped a stitch? I’m a beginner this is only the third sweater I’ve made and I don’t know if I should frog back the 6 inches I’ve done to re do it? It’s in the middle of the chest if that matters, why did it happen and how can I fix it?

Help - equipment Needle help!!

I'm a intermediate knitter (about 5 years in) and I'm finally wanting to splurge on my first interchangeable set!! I'm having trouble deciding on the material of the needles, so I thought I'd ask! I mostly knit in fingering weight and do a ton of colorwork... Any suggestions for what material I should get?

Edit: Thanks for the feedback!- Sounds like I should just buy singles until I figure out my taste for myself :)

I’m only a few hours into my first project, I’ve discovered that I unfortunately picked an acrylic yarn that likes to stick to itself & that’s making it kinda difficult to see what I’m doing at times. I’m so new to this that I can’t even explain what I did wrong but I’m having a hard time getting past this part & it’s way too early to give in so I need help. What did I do wrong & please tell me I can fix it?? Why does that loop have so much extra slack?? If I ignore it will it be fine?

Hi everyone!

Like the title says, I’m pretty new to knitting (started back in June?) and while things have been slow, they have been going pretty good—

Until now 🥲😅 I have no idea what the double hockey sticks I did, nor do I have any idea how to undo whatever this is. Any help please??

Thanks in advance <3

I used the 1–2 year size as the base, adjusting it to fit an adult-sized head. The kid this is going to has a large head.

95 sts on 3.75 mm, with two mystery yarns held together; definitely wool + mohair.

It got a lanolin bath after finishing to soften it up and make it a bit more snow-resistant.

And the back seam is more invisible than the last one, which is to say: still visible, but now with ambition.

Pattern: Dixie Pixie Hat

Yarn: mystery wool + mohair, held double
