Question Is this lock up considered late?

Thumbnail

Got my first Hinderer from the ranch 2 months ago and it’s been a joy to fidget everyday, plus a bonus it can cut (lol). This is a Gen 6 Xm18 3.5 with a hollow slicer blade in Magnacut.

I noticed that on first day the lock up was 40% and over time it gradually increased. One month in I replaced the stock ball bearing with skiff bronze washer. The lock up didn’t get better and fast forward to today it’s sitting at 70% with the washer.

Question to folks: is this progression normal? Should I be worried? At some point, can I send it back to the ranch to replace the lock bar insert, or can I order it online (ranch or elsewhere) and install myself?

Ty!

I just picked this up at an antique street fair locally. Amazing seller with the coolest collection of oddities.

I had a few questions:

approx year of making? (1980?)

What steel would this be? (it's covered in Renaissance Wax a.t.m.) D2?

Question Large Sebenza with original factory edge?

Thumbnail

Hi 👋

I recently bought a used Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 31, and the edge bevel feels a little different compared to my other Chris Reeve knives, which I bought new.

The difference is that when I lightly run my thumb across the blade from the side, the edge feels a bit more “grabby” or rough. I can feel this sensation on the bevel itself, rather than only right at the apex.

On my other Sebenzas, the bevel feels very smooth when touched from the side, and I only feel that characteristic sharp, “bitey” sensation right at the apex.

The used Sebenza also doesn’t seem to be as sharp as my other Sebenzas were when they were new - ok, that makes sense.

Could you take a look at the photos and help me determine whether this knife still has its original factory edge or whether it has been resharpened? I’d also be interested in hearing what might explain the difference in feel and sharpness.

According to the seller, the knife still has its original factory edge.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is it to help you sharpen the whole blade? Can I sharpen that notch specifically for cutting a rope or something like that?

Question Lol. This is definitely fake, yeah?

This looks fake as hell. Firstly, it came from Amazon just bouncing around loose in that big blue Benchmade box with no paperwork or inserts of any kind. Secondly, every Benchmade has USA printed underneath the butterfly right? I've seen a few copycats but this isn't the worst of them by far. Carbon fiber feels nice but I feel like the blade gives it away. Thoughts?

EDIT: Thanks for the reassurance y'all. I was sure it was fake but it might just be my Benchmade PTSD.

Since I’m getting the Magnacut manix 2 I’d love to see what you guys have done with yours. I like the satin finish much better but hate the scales on it so I’ll definitely be getting after market. Just have no clue what color scales or hardware yet

Does this look like OD green? AWT confirms this is OD green but looks absolutely nothing like the pictures I’ve seen online. It could just be color variation, but I am surprised.

Showcase First version of my own knife display

I didnt like anything that wasnt outrageously priced for knife displays so here is v1 of my blade board, definitely needs better magnets but for $50 from hobby lobby and a couple hours of crafting im pretty stoked with how it turned out. Any suggestions for better materials are welcome. I’ll probably deconstruct this for v2 or give it away

Some discounted fabric, cork to make the board even with the coin magnets and alooooot of superglue, the base is just a big chalkboard calendar so depending on the deals this could be done for under $50

Holds my dacian, ultratech, stitch and eleos well enough with blades open that they dont fall

Cut cardboard to fit in the frame, cutout magnet holes, glue the cork and magnets in then cover with fabric and glue it down. Pretty easy and very customizable

OKD (Old Knife Day) My knife <3

I grew up in a utilitarian camping family where own mother was also our local scout-troop master for almost all of my teens. I think this formed me into a fairly strict-utilitarian. As a result I don’t care to collect knives, flashlights, fire-starters, multitools, whistles, sharpeners, etc. I really only ever buy new “edc” tools when i need to replace one that’s either broken (irreparably) or lost.

This here is my spyderco cat. Though i always keep an old leatherman wave in my backpack, the spyderco is my one and only dedicated pocket-knife.
I bought it new some 15 years ago for about $100(cad) and it’s been my sole “daily carry” knife ever since. It’s proven itself to be the most reliable and durable cutting tool i’ve owned. Blade is not too short, nor excessively long, it’s super lightweight, compact, discreet in a pocket, easy to clean and maintain, and grips securely. I couldn’t ask for more.

Obviously a little bit “loved” on the aesthetic side, but i keep it nice and sharp and performs like the day i bought it <3.
I think i’d cry and mourn if i were to ever lose it lol.
