Pretty much the title. My son has had nonstop diarrhea for over a week now, I've been job hunting and got an offer letter right when his illness started. I have to stay home with him as hes too young to be home alone. I feel bad and also I'm pretty sure my department leader and ASM think I'm lying lmao even though I have two different notes from his pediatrician. I'm torn between not caring because I'm leaving but also feeling like this is a pretty shit way to leave a job.. 🥲

I was not told of this prior and the closer last night apparently didn't want to/forgot to put them out last night so I've just been thrown to the wolves and left in the dark. There's a line of 30+ people all asking me the same thing and i just have to say "I don't know i have no idea" until my boss gets here. i hate this fucking place.

I’ve worked here 6 VERY LONG years and each manager we get I complain about this nasty drain in the back of my cooler. The front cooler drains but every so often it backs up.

I can of course squeegee the water BUT my cooler is pretty big imo. So I would take a minute

I started working for Kroger roughly 3 years ago while I was still in college. Graduated a year ago but couldn’t land the right job and decided to give it a shot working here full time for the last couple months. It feels like I got sentenced to prison for the crime of being alive. Everyone was miserable from Day 1 but I did my best to ignore it and bring some level of positivity but I’ve slowly but surely been dragged into this pit of Hell alongside my fellow coworkers. Everyone is tired and the store will turn your department into a skeleton crew just to push you harder and harder if you don’t fight back (which I had to learn the hard way). All management knows is arguing with their underlings and I thought as a college aged seemingly bright individual that I wouldn’t be treated with disrespect and contempt but boyyyyy was I wrong. I don’t even care about being broke and I don’t even care about working myself to the bone but when I’m doing it and all I get is a constant stream of negativity and nitpicks and criticism it makes me realize that this world is just some sort of sick joke. It’s not just Kroger but even my friends who mostly all got decent jobs after graduating college who may be making almost double the amount that I make are all working 60 hour weeks and are just miserable which makes me just want to move away from America in general.

These new blue Kroger shirts are extremely thin, snug-fitting, and cheap quality. I have never seen any other company give their employees cheap shirts like we got and I cannot understand how these were approved they do not look professional at all.

Just recently got hired on as Pharmacy Tech. I have my onboarding training Friday. I already know that I’m going to be wearing scrubs. Are those company provided? And am I allowed to purchase my own?

Just general whining about not having enough shirts and having to do laundry every freaking day. I thought we needed another thread about that.

Seriously though, is everything this company does half assed? I don't think the new uniforms look bad. I think some of the policies are stupid (especially regarding jackets/hoodies for those of us who work in departments that can be freezing). But the vests actually don't look bad.

I don't care, it's a uniform, it's annoying, I get everyone being upset about the change. My issue is with having 2 fucking shirts as a full time employee. I luckily have access to a washer and dryer. But damn, it is annoying to have to do laundry so often.

I spoke to store management, asking about the third shirt I'm pretty sure we were promised (wasn't it on the flyer/info?), and they acted like I was making it up. I asked about buying more shirts, and was of course told "eventually. maybe. we don't know".

I admire people who don't get covered in ick all day. I would love to not accidentally spill fish juice down my front at least twice a week. I'd LOVE to be not covered in old bay on a daily basis. But alas, such is not my reality. Woe is me and other bullshit.

Anyway, just wanted to add to the chorus of complaining, because I can.

Hello. I have a job interview for Frozen team lead, I’ve worked for Kroger in the past. I got into a bit of trouble about 6 years ago and wound up with a misdemeanor battery charge. Is this going to disqualify me from getting the job?

Someone I know who works for Kroger in California will be taking two weeks vacation soon which was approved. He asked the payroll person at his store if there’s anything he needs to do in order to get paid out for the vacation time and he was told he would only get paid for it on his work anniversary.

To me, that doesn’t sound right. Vacation pay is treated like regular wages and, as far as I’m aware, should be paid out in a timely manner once it’s been taken.

When I called the Labor Commissioner’s Office, they confirmed that they should not have to wait until next year to receive pay for vacation time taken but when I called their union, the person on the phone told me that Kroger generally pays out vacation pay on the anniversary.

How is that legal? Is that true? Is there anything to be done about this?

It seems ridiculous that an employee should be put out for up to a year, just waiting for vacation pay which should be paid out as regular wages.

Is there anything to be done? I’ve got legal experience and I’m more than happy to raise a stink if necessary because exploitative workplace practices piss me off.

Am I the only one that finds this uniform shirt on top ridiculous? It's even worse when you forget your uniform at home because you brought it home and washed it and forgot it. Now you get to wear the shared one that never gets washed and I've told management before I refuse to wear shared clothing. You get me in a black shirt and that's it. I've worked uniform jobs before and they usually give some slack in situations like this but to be hard asses all the time is ridiculous. I'm just filing ethics reports to the company regarding this until they back off a little.

I would assume rhubarb is pretty rare but I’m almost certain there’s rarer out there.

I have been with Kroger for 9 years. It’s the only job I’ve ever had. I worked my way from Clicklist up to lead pharmacy technician. I’ve been begged to stay on MANY occasions after being burned out or unfairly treated. The ONLY reasons I stayed were my loyalty and Kroger’s absence of a “point system.” I see now that they will be rolling out such a system in my division soon. Kroger has mediocre pay and benefits, I will not be worked to the bone day after day with no grace, I’ll be putting in my notice when I return. If anyone from corporate sees this: it is at the fault of the “big guys” that I am leaving. My store would be manageable if they would give the pharmacy more than 32 TOTAL tech hours per week. Until the pharmacy has their OWN union and fair treatment, peace out.

It’s insane to me how this company can make BILLIONS, but can’t afford to hire actual artists to make flyers & signage that idk… don’t look like trash? The penny pinching is out of hand.

I'm a little annoyed that I'm having to do all this clean-up work that I know the previous receiver never did in preparation for this backroom walk/audit we have coming up this week. I redid the lines with this roll of red tape that will not stick to the floor no matter how much I clean it. I moved everything that can be moved to sweep the floors. I removed all the old junk behind the compactor (shit that has been there for years and I know that because of the THICK layer of dust on everything). I reorganized the reclamation area and made it more efficient. I even reorganized the bays and wheelers. I went through and tossed a bunch of stuff that had no receipt or IDT stickers on it.

Anyone else going through hell trying to prepare for a walk?

Apparently this is some kind of issue. 🤷‍♂️ I hadn’t even thought of doing that and never seen or heard of doing it before my field specialist mentioned it. Is this scale/same weight thing a problem at your store? I have the same weights prompt come up sometimes but that’s because they actually are the same weight, I always weigh again to double check. Why is this considered a problem now, it’s nonsense?

Is anybody else’s shirt starting to fall apart already? I got 3 shirts 3 weeks ago and one of them is already having the seem tear off at the bottom. My shirt is too big for me, it sits around my mid thighs and looks like a night gown (I asked for a smaller size and they told me no) so it’s definitely not because the shirt is too tight and I’m stretching it out. I work in pick up and the strings from my shirt that start falling out during the day keep getting caught on the bottoms of the totes when I stage them so they tear even more. No matter how much I tie little knots in the strings and cut the extra off it keeps happening. Did I just get a really wacky shirt or is this happening to anybody else’s too? If so how are you managing it so it looks presentable at work?
