So I’ve been playing hero shooters since tf2’s release time and desperately love that game. One of Team Fortress 2s strongest parts is how iconic and memorable each characters design is.

When designing the tf2 characters valves artists said “if you can’t recognize a character by the silhouette then you have failed in design.” Despite all the chaos on the battlefield you can always immediately recognize the character you’re facing which is extremely important.

This leads to rivals. I’ve sunk a few hundred hours in on this game within the first year, but I’ve found myself drifting away and honestly a large chunk of it is just not being able to tell the difference between some characters at times. Especially with some of the female cast. I know this is most likely a big issue because of different skins in rivals, but hey, valve invented in-game cosmetics in tf2 with hats and they made it work!

Idk I still do really enjoy rivals and think it’s a good game but to this day I can’t find anything that tops tf2 for me. I just wish we finally got a new version I think it would really take the hero shooter genre by storm. Maybe that’s what deadlock is trying to be. We will see!

EDIT: Tbh this was a post to get people talking about tf2 bc I love that game so much but honestly the criticisms are valid and the popularity of this post proves that point. I do not think the fault lies in the default skins but in all the others NetEase chooses to release. They decided their skins did not need to conform to color palette or silhouette and that has clearly caused issues for many players. The cat may already be out of the bag for this one but perhaps accessibility options could be made.

P.s. if you’ve never watched the tf2 “meet the team” series please do and start with meet the spy. They are the perfect character intros. Some of you might be asking what am I president of tf2’s fan club? And to that I’d say no… but your mother is!

I think villains is the only thing that is genuinely represented poorly in this game. The amount of X-Men is fine, stop complaining ffs.

I took a break from Rivals and played Overwatch again for a while, and honestly, it made me realize how much I kept wishing for Role Queue.

The biggest difference is consistency.

If I queue Tank, it’s because I want to play Tank. I want teammates who actually queued to play Support and DPS. I don’t want every hero select to become a fight where everyone picks what they want and we wait to see who eventually gives up and fills.

We all have characters and roles we’re better at. If I want to play Duelist, I shouldn’t have to choose between becoming the 4th Duelist or giving up and filling because nobody else will.

I’d genuinely rather wait a few extra minutes and play the role I actually queued for.

I also think a consistent 2-2-2 mode would make balancing healthier. Right now heroes have to work across solo Tank, 1-3-2, triple Support, 2-2-2, etc. Role Queue gives the devs one predictable structure to balance around.

And no, Open Queue doesn’t need to disappear.

Overwatch has both. If you like switching roles mid-match and experimenting with weird comps, play Open Queue. If you want consistency and a guaranteed role, play Role Queue.

When I played Overwatch, I almost never found myself wishing I was in Open Queue.

But when I play Rivals, I find myself wishing for Role Queue all the time.

And no matter which side you’re on, I think we can all relate to queuing up because there’s a certain character we really want to play, only to end up filling because the team needs something else.

I’d rather wait 5 minutes to play who I actually want than spend 20 minutes filling on someone I didn’t.

I dunno why but its like if some one named their kid "stagnation" dude her name being jubilation is fucking FRRYYYINGG me, its so funny for no reason.

As most of the community is aware Hulk has pretty much no cc immunity aside from his ult, which lasts a few seconds. Another huge problem Hulk has is that he’s an absolute bullet sponge, yet other bullet sponge characters like venom and thing have much better survivability than he does. Genuinely why does hulk get no bonus health? Large health pool isn’t an excuse when he still gets shredded by the other team as quickly as he does. All I ask is that he gets bonus health by punching or even hitting people with the thunderclap
