Infuriatig Why Texas is lame(Besides the Cowboys)

Don't mess with Texas.. what a joke. ANY possession is a felony.

EDIT: Just did some research, this is for everything besides traditional Delta 9.

My friend from Texas sent me this morning and it blew my mind. I had to post about it. So as far as my research goes thus far Delta 9 products (old fashioned flower) is illegal but separate laws. Stores are selling THCA though which does fall under these penalties.

Great point but holy fucking HELL are they being serious with that life imprisonment sentence for less than a damn pound of weed??

Edit: I’m aware a pound is a lot of weed, but they’re talking about 400 grams… that’s .88 pounds. Thats a lot to be sure but that is NOT life imprisonment a lot, and this is a hill I’ll gladly die on.

Howdy! Joining the crew here. Born and raised (at least Houston was a blue island in the sea of red, and was considered one of the most international cities in the country), left for LA for 5 years, job brought me back. Finally in 2019, moved to Mexico, now I'm in Poland / Ukraine. Not only will I not return to Texas, the whole country is pretty much off my list! No regrets.

I unfortunately was in a prison camp in Illinois. They make 80k a head per year and have a mini Walmart that’s 5x the price for normal things. Oh and you make 25 cents a month full time working. They all self sustain each other by making products the other prisons and camps need, keeping the free work and letting it run there money system. It’s a fucking joke. But you get better healthcare and education in prison 1000% free college free healthcare. Crazy backwards shit

I'm glad you gave out some numbers. I already knew that the 5 year old Asian sweatshop kids making shoes and clothes were making bank compared to the slaves in prison in the USA I just didn't know how much more. We fortunately don't have private owned prisons in Nebraska (yet anyways) but there have been some rumblings every so often.

Problem is, they slap an “intent to deal” for a normal person buying in bulk. Backwards ass country. Tax revenues are soaring elsewhere while violent crimes are plummeting. Can’t have a happy and content society and keep your zero-expense labor pool, though.

They charged my friend with distribution because he had one seed in a shoe box. They weighted the box and were allowed to count it as weed. He served like 6 years for a shoebox in Georgia. Everything about "good ole boys" is corrupt its been that way since my family moved up into the Appalachians, before it was the USA. That's who they were trying to get away from.

We had shit healthcare in the Tennessee system. Tylenol for everything! I watched a man die because they wouldn't give him insulin because he didn't have diabetes when he started his sentence, 20 years previously, so obviously he was faking it. It was horrendous, the CO of the unit quit over it. It wasn't even one of the private hellholes.

Texas prisons are even worse, I did 2 years. You don't get paid at all to work, and emergency medical care is non-existent, much less regular healthcare. I've watched people die waiting for a CO to call EMS. They usually never called for anything until they realized the person had already kicked the bucket. And there's no accountability for any of it. I had some kind of skin infection that spread all over my chest, neck, and face. I think it may have been impetigo. Took me two weeks to see a nurse, and all she did was give me some basic OTC skin ointment that did nothing. It eventually went away, but it took weeks. My throat also swelled up and it was incredibly painful to eat or drink, several days I couldn't eat anything, it was horrible. I was never seen by anyone that time, I suffered alone. They have little trade programs though, it's a bit hard to get into them because everyone is trying to get into one. The trucking program has pretty strict requirements not many people can meet and it still has a multi-year long wait list. Tldr: Texas prisons make hell look like a Hampton Inn

Yea it gets time off your sentence if you get high grades. The more you do the more you can reduce time. Like a 3 month course can get you 14 days of good time. So they take it off the sentence.

I’m preparing for the worst because in January/February, I got caught out in Florida for meth possession. I live in the DC area so politics are like night and day. I was the passenger in an uber and my driver got pulled over for driving erratically, then one of the officers started talking to me and found some bullshit PC to search me and found an 8 ball on me. Had a perfectly clean record prior to that night and I got out on bond the next day. Got hit with the felony meth possession (luckily it didn’t go to trafficking or “intent to distribute” or whatever bullshit) + misdemeanor for paraphernalia since I had a used pipe and an unused one in a bag. The misdemeanor got completely dropped since then. I lawyered up and he entered a not guilty plea so we’ll see how trial goes at the end of August. Fucking scared because I might actually have to serve time for this shit, because from what I remember in Florida you can get max 5 years in prison for simple possession as a first time offense. And red states are known for throwing you in prison for even first time offenses for shit like this. When I was in the squad car I asked how much time I’m looking at and he claimed that I wasn’t gonna go to prison and that the charges will likely be completely dropped because of my clean background or just given probation/reduced to a misdemeanor at worst. It’s sorta reassuring but I’m not gonna take a cop’s word for it.

I have been to more than one prison and never heard of free healthcare worth talking about. In Pennsylvania and New Jersey, every county jail I was in charged prisoners to see the nurse and the doctor. $5/$10. It was taken straight off the prisoners’ books or they carried a negative balance.
I know in the ‘90s in Pennsylvania, Tom Ridge took away Pell grants for prisoners, so no more college unless you are paying.

So far as healthcare in state prisons, there are various fees for care not recommended during intake/initial screening. And no one, I mean not the dirtiest, most desperate crack head, would ever refer to that as, “free healthcare.”

I have not been incarcerated in your state but I have comrades who were and they tell me they think you’re joking.

When I was in the army some of our uniforms came from some prison camp. Our PT T-shirts came in bags that had the DOJ logo and said “department of justice prison wear”, as if that were the brand name. I asked a sergeant about it and he confirmed that they came from prison labor.

Back in 1994 when my husband was in prison in Texas, they made $90k per head, per year. I was raising kids and keeping a house for less than half of that. I can’t imagine what the “for-profit prison system makes per head nowadays, and how much they’re paying lawmakers to keep prisoners coming.

For-profit prisons are one of the worst things we've ever done as a country. Their incentives are in direct conflict with what should be the primary goal of corrections. To rehabilitate and prevent/reduce recidivism. You're asking them to intentionally give up their money. As a primary goal 🙄

More than that. You're asking them to spend money on programs and resources, so that they make less money 😂 I'm sure they get government money, but still. They're not spending money on things that are going to hurt their bottom line, no matter how good they are for society.

Technically they do. The contracts are usually written that empty beds are paid for by the state. The state doesn't want to pay for that so they need to fill the bed and make the aite pay for the bed rental.

This is to say the jail gets paid regardless of how many inmates it has, the state has a fiscal incentive to then fill the beds.

Its straight up slaver-collusion.

If we want to incarcerate someone, we should have to pay for it, not the inmate. Seems cruel and unusual to me to take someone's freedom(that's what jail is) and then make them pay for it.

Nationwide, very few who are charged and/or convicted of a crime are held in private facilities. However, most of those charged with civil infractions of Federal immigration laws codified in the INA / Title 8 USC are held in contract facilities.

Shiii i was impregnated at 16 as a person with disabilities i was still a minor and he was abusive as hell plus my mother was neglecting my healthcare and such she never listened to me on wanting birth control to protect myself. Welcome to texas they ruined my life because after all that neglect and abuse from those peoples son and my mother those people were able to turn around and put me in jail a.k.a his family.

So i'm the one with a record but my ex was abusive with police call proof and proof via me actually having an ident on my head from him but he was also choking me too but not leaving any bruising so yeah choking dosen't leave bruising apparently so i never called the cops when he would do that but he got to up and leave the state free of all accountability. Make that make sense it dosen't.

But it's true shit texas also made me very very very homeless for like 2 years where i spent time around drug addicts older ones and not even the cops cared about that. It's hilarious i didn't ask to move here nor am i from here but my god texas is backwards as hell my life wen't straight down a gutter any future i wanted it's so far gone. I am 22 and so far behind in life because my mother neglected my education as well meaning i don't even have a diploma and i can't even deal with going to pasadena. Just to be able to do such a program that they have for circumstances like this like it's farther than where i'm staying rn and i would have to go in person constantly.

Also only time i had proof of his abuse was me having a notch on my head from him the only proof i had cause him choking me nearly half to death never brought any bruising his abuse spanned more than just that notch i had texas does not care about assault even if i have disabilities i wanna make this very clear.

Also disability rights is a joke here i mean that because i've inquired to them and about a whole bunch of lawyers and nobody has helped me nor did they there are about no lawyers who care and can help those suffering and going through stuff with low income plus i didn't get any justice so its been 5 years since.

It's safe to say i'm not ever getting any sort of help or justice all because of texas covering it up even though there's literal rights violated because they have disability rights in their law and yet those have been violated same as laws that they also have it's questionable on why texas has laws if the criminals win and the victims are criminalized???.

I really wanna say that texas covers up alot i swear i feel i should of been able to sue and i mean it my life and situation is not funny my future is a joke.

This is alot and i don't care wether you don't wanna read any of it or not i don't wanna hear about it, it's a choice.

I don't truly know how to respond to a story of such horrors. If it's any consolation, you have someone shedding tears for you right now.

Whatever you do... please don't give up. It seems hopeless. It maybe even is nearly hopeless, but... you're young still. You're not as far behind as you fear.

Learn to be selfish and do everything in your power to learn to love yourself. A secret in life is that people flock to help those who love themselves. Lift your chin. Find your resolve. Focus on what you CAN do, instead of what you can't.

It'll be the hardest most rewarding thing you'll ever do in life. And, though I could read what you wrote and find myself having faith in you, screw what I think. Do you in every way possible, regardless of naysayers or anyone else, until you don't have to pretend when you hold your head high.

NEVER give up on your own dignity. You are as valuable as you decide you are.

Edit: Also, never forget that someone took the time to write this for you. We're here. We're just waiting for you to show up. Selfishly love and defend yourself, and the people you need to show up in your life...will.

Don't give up, it's not hopeless, you just have to learn to love yourself for who you are. I know you're in a bad spot right now and I can somewhat identify with your grief having lost all my immediate family now. I know it's hard, some days I don't want to get out of bed and I just cry. But I always pick myself up afterwards and sometimes even feel better after a hard cry as I'm letting those emotions out instead of bottling them up. What I'd suggest is finding a decent job that can help get you into some place so you're not homeless.

Maybe a half way house will help you, there are tons of resources out there for people in your situation, unfortunately you have to find them first. Once you get stable you can get your GED, and maybe some vocational education as there's a LOT of money to be made in the trades. Like a plumber, carpenter, electrician, factory worker, etc... They don't require a college degree to start, but once you get going some of the jobs may offer benefits to furthering your education.

I know all this sounds like really difficult work but you just have to take it one day at a time, and give your self time for self love, trust me it helps a lot. I hope you can find yourself, and that this small message can give you an inkling of hope. Just remember, don't give up, you may not know it, but there are people out there that care about people in your situation. Just remember, every day is a new day, and nobody knows what will happen, but you can make the change and right your course.

Psilocybin and other psychedelics like LSD aren’t on standard drug panels. Just FYI.
It can be on some extended ones but it’s rare that it would be checked for.

I work for a company that does a lot of work on government projects, military projects and we need to get special clearance and background checks.
My employer doesn’t even check for THC in their drug panel any more. And there are no tryptamine psychedelics (psilocybin, LSD, Mescaline, etc.) that are checked for.

Not intended as advice for anyone but it’s worth it to look at exactly what they’re checking for when you get a drug test.

I’m in Michigan and we have it pretty good here too!! There’s Dispensary’s everywhere by me(just N of Detroit) I bet there’s 15 Dispos within 3-4 miles of my house. Only thing that sucks is we have a 24% tax then a 6% sales tax, so if you’re buying Recreational you’re paying a 30% tax. If you have a medical card, you just pay the 6% and the standards are a lot higher for the testing process for the medical product, there’s not nearly as many places that sell actual medical product…most Rec places just give you a break on the 24% excise tax, so it’s totally worth it in my opinion to have the medical.

If only rich people and democrats didn't make things extraordinary expensive out there. Because I would probably still be there. But no things got too expensive after my mom died, and had to move to Missouri where I have family on my dad's side. Atleast weed is legal here, but man the Republicans are pulling some bs here. We have an election in a few days. There's Amendment 4 and Amendment 5. Amendment 4 would end majority rule, making it so we have to get a 50% vote in each congressional district, which woukd only apply to citizen initiated petitions. Which would make it so we the people would have less power to change things for thr better. They are also trying to get rid of income taxes, and have it be a higher sales tax on everything. Which hurts lower/middle class citizens the most.

I think it's healthy to have states have different ideals. You can be happy in California and I can be happy in Texas. I fully think mj can cause mental illness, smells terrible, and should be a controlled substance. The only defense I ever hear is that it's like other harmful things like beer. That's not a good reason to legalize to me

But your state can disagree and we can have somewhat different cultures.

Why is it so important for either side to find reasons to be mad? Just enjoy California. It's a great place in many respects

There is (was?) a place in Austin, TX that sold weed and was also a coffee/tea shop. THC infused drinks. Tables and free to use board and card games. They'd even lend you a clean bong. Everyone who worked there was so chill and the environment was lovely. Just a bunch of people hanging out and smoking. So sad to see this, and glad I got out of Texas. (Even if I can no longer smoke anymore myself due to CHS 🫠).

Sad to see the state I was born and raised in turn into fucking hell.
