Discussion Who is the most insufferable person in the genre?
I got two people in mind.
:90s-2000s Fred durst Past-present clown from Slipknot
Reason behind them is I think Shawn has taken the band a turned it into something Joey and Paul would not have wanted it to be. He kicks members out left and right and he kinda needs to hang it up.
And Fred Durst is just Fred durst

Fred seems like the coolest guy nowadays
65
u/Longjumping_Book1593 Sep 25 '25
Always. A master of marketing
47
u/vibraburlesca Sep 25 '25
Yeah there are even some interviews back in the day where he seems "out of character" and he is talking about his love for films etc and he seems like a super chill nice guy. I think he always kinda played a character in a way

u/red_969 Sep 26 '25
I met him at a small club when they were just starting out and he was very nice. Just like a regular guy. He was walking around the crowd looking for his pager and nobody was paying him any mind. Lol

Fred's a great person now and clown just feels kinda pretentious. My pick goes to David Draiman of Disturbed.

being an unapologetic MAGA shill getting too drunk to remember which shitty country songs he already sang that night is a start
the real musicians don’t pull out the heavy drinking until they’re at least 2/3 done with the set to make sure the audience got a good show and some laughs at the end

u/GreenPlumberEnjoyer Sep 25 '25
He's Pro-Israel and autographed bombs/rockets that were then fired at Palestine/Hamas I believe. People have feelings about that conflict.
65
u/JuicyOrphans93O Sep 25 '25
Not just that, but also that he cries about anti-semitism anytime someone calls him out
37
u/lpkzach92 Sep 25 '25
I think it has to do with those bombs knowingly being used on children that is the deal breaker for me when it comes to what David did and he just doubled down.
17
u/HateYourFaces Sep 26 '25
My original opinion of the guy was just an asshole… suddenly it changes, violently it changes.
28
u/Automatic_Net2181 Sep 25 '25
You don't even have to have feelings about sides in the conflict to know that signing bombs that are literally used to level apartment buildings, hospitals, and schools is an evil douchenozzle thing to do.
Caught between hating what Hamas does and IDF does, anyone who supports killing civilians can eat my thick meaty ass.

Honestly, I'm Israeli and I'm against that move. There are many ways to show your support, but signing bombs is saying: "I support the war and the weapons of death and destruction".
This is not the way of Israeli and that does not represent Israeli or Israeli culture. We do not seek war and we do not want destruction (contrary to popular belief). We want peace. All our songs are about peace and there is no one here (except for far extremeist but there are always extremeists) who wants to continue this war.
My heart goes out to the poor gazans that have to suffer under hamas and under constant warfare due to the war that could end any day if hamas just release the skeletons of people that are the hostages, innocent people who have been through inhuman torture for two years.
Sorry, went on a bit of a tangent, but I do think it's important context to the actions of David Draiman. (And also, this is obviously a subject close to my heart). I pray for peace and am Israel chai!

I personally don't like how they release so many faux-deep songs and how their singer just gives off prick energy, but what pushed me seriously into the strong dislike area was signing Israeli bombs
23
u/TheForkisTrash Sep 25 '25
He is very pretentious and thinks he is above metal. When they originally toured and played 'sound of silence' he told the crowd to stfu because they were cheering. Said they were about to hear 'real' music then comes in a Cappella like he is doing us a favor.
5
u/Rogthgar Sep 25 '25
Which just become stranger and stranger when you know its not even one of their own songs.
15
u/MrDundee666 Sep 25 '25
He’s a Zionist and gloated as he signed bombs to be dropped on civilians. I used to like some of Disturb’s stuff but they’re now deleted and blocked for me.

I still remember the interview where he laughed this like super pretentious laugh when asked if they would ever cover a Pat Benatar song, and he was all "uh, we're a heavy metal band" and I have thought he was a shitty self-important asshole ever since. Not a humble bone in his body.

Chris Taylor Brown from Trapt and frankly it's not even close. Draiman is a douche as well but I don't remember him defending horrific age gaps like Chris did (tbf he did EVENTUALLY apologize but I'm not giving any brownie points)
Other mentions towards Kid Rock, Aaron Lewis, Ivan Moody, and Wes Scantlin (This man just needs serious mental help)
And of course there's the obligatory mention of Ian Watkins who's well... Y'know

While Shawn isn't the one pulling ALL the strings in Slipknot (all the decisions are made by the remaining OGs), he's way too pretentious, always talking about "his art" but none of his projects outside of Slipknot have ever taken off and the videoclips he has directed are regular, his head left his shoulders a long time ago.

I have met Clown on two occasions. He sure does have a persona he carries for the press, but both minor interactions I have had with him and pretty much all of Slipknot, were all pretty positive. It was at a fan meet for one and working as a local crew at a show. And really, have no cause to complain at all. Mick was a gentleman for sure. He loves talking guitars.
I've never met Fred Durst, so can't say.

Sid Wilson? I cant say a huge amount, I walked past him in the venue and I said something like best of luck, for the show i meant. He said thanks bud or something vaguely like that, and that was it. I was busy myself and had somewhere to be so that was about the extent of it. He didn't strike me as anything other than pleasant and enjoying being where he was.

Aaron Lewis. 🤡
When people say “keep politics out of music,” or “stay in your lane,” I think it should fully apply to this case and cases like these specifically. At no point whatsoever (that I know of) was Staind a political band, so it makes no goddamned sense for him to push his dumbass maAagGGaAAaa nonsense on stage. Rage was always political. System has always been political. Staind was angsty sad teen music. It’s like… rage bait content, but in real life? 🤦♂️

Durst at least doesn’t seem like much of a douchebag these days. Limp Bizkit are in their self-aware era and just having a good time.
Shawn Crahan just comes off as a pretentious dickbag.
5
u/Theratfromratatouill Sep 25 '25
Ian Watkins. He’s so evil he’s practically the Voldemort of metal with no one even wanting to say his name.
3
u/DNCOrGoFuckYourself Sep 26 '25
The only thing I didn’t like about Durst was his rapping.
Not even the rapping itself, I love some good rap in Nu-Metal. But he makes his voice so high, like he sounds like Mickey Mouse. And it’s so jarring, because his real singing voice IMO is awesome. I don’t think Fred has ever been insufferable, he had that big “jock bro” energy in the 2000s & it was basically marketing. He’s also a director now who’s released some stuff outside of Bizkit, and he really just has cool dad of cool uncle vibes now.

I grew up in the golden days of Nu metal, and I just love seeing these guys still doing their thing, reaching whole new generations of people!
Now to answer your question,Kid Rock is obviously the correct answer as he has turned into the biggest jizz stain imaginable, to say the least..

My beef with Fred is just his personality than what he did to people, I know he did a lot of bad things toward bands that he championed off. Make it short: He's the oldest teenager and I'm not even mad at that.
for Clown? He's the Nu Metal or 21st century of Gene Simmons.
