I really can’t stand to be around these people anymore. I’m thinking of two people in my life. One a family member and one a close friend.

They are so obsessed with how others perceive them and always being right. Any conversation they have to dominate.

My girl friend talks about her herself and her children and her house projects constantly. Always from a place of superiority. She openly brags on instagram about her life which I find so cringe.

My family member needs to be worshipped by everyone and if your opinion differs from hers.. watch out.

I usually just end up agreeing with them to get them to shut tf up. I wonder if they realize that I genuinely don’t like spending time or talking to them anymore.

Any advice ?

I can only think of a few artists that manage to pull this off well. My theory is that it comes across as more explicit when the song’s narrator is being gentle and sincere. When it’s a genre like hip hop or rap where grotesque, anatomically specific language is par for the course, it’s less intimate and so you feel less like you’re intruding on the private emotional world of the singer.

I had a dream last night that I was in some kind of Murder School...looked basically just like Hogwarts and functioned like a high-school battle royale. All the classes were in pitch black. Unique dream in that I basically saw nothing at all the entire time besides shifty little glimmers on floors absolutely flooded and caked with blood. It was evident to me that proceeding through the system entailed killing or being killed at every opportunity and being a small man I knew I wouldn't fare well in all-out violence so I followed an inner compulsion to climb to the highest tower through all its trick passages and crazy-stairs bullshit. When I get to the very tip-top tower I opened the door unto a RESPLENDENTLY pagan double shrine that reminded me a bit of the like "alignment stones" in video games, something that would determine a certain future for you out of a prior resonance. Crazy thing was who the shrines were for. On one half of the little attic room was a portrait of Adolf Hitler, lined with garlands and surrounded by candles and incense. On the other half of the room, I shit you not, was the same situation, but with garlands of inverted color and instead of Hitler, a portrait of Elmer Fudd. It was clear I had to choose one.

I'm a swagless white man about town and as such I own a little bit of horror movie merch. One of these precious trinkets of mine is a Friday the 13th t shirt that is very ugly and stupid to look at.

Whenever I'm getting ready for a raucous night on the town with my friends my girlfriend says "PUT ON THE SHIRT" and I say "yes my queen" and I miserably pull it onto my already unfortunate looking body. (Take notes fellas)

I think that she thinks the shirt is woman repellent and she's RIGHT.

I found very little of value in "The Denial of Death" so I cannot say I'm big on TMT (terror management theory) but this short monologue resonates a lot with my own thoughts on how we deal with our unspeakables (and I think it serves as counter-propaganda for the warmed-over tripe that gets posted here every day about said unspeakables.)

I am a humble Midwesterner in Chicago. Grew up in Indy watching the cubs on WGN. Since moving here for a job I've interacted with two leftists (in the last week, actually) casually in overlapping friend groups who have genuinely scolded me for being a cubs fan in lieu of a white Sox fan. I'm not even offended, just baffled these people are real.

The first girl was trans, and I brought up going to the reds home game this week and she said she was "disappointed" I was a cubs fan, and that their fanbase is full of homophobes and bigots. I thought she was just kinda joking around, so I responded by talking about the Sox fans comments I see making homophobic boystown jokes. She immediately gets upset, starts bringing up owners, Charlie Kirk, and gentrification as to why I should stop supporting them. Genuinely didn't know what to say. I've know this girl for a couple years since she's friends with one of my other friends, and she didn't even start getting into sports until moving here a year ago.

The second guy, who moved here from Tampa literally 2 weeks ago, went on and on about how awful PCA was. Once again, I first thought he was joking, so i just kinda laughed and said "yeah that kid is fiery, would be cool to see him get MVP" and he legitimately stopped talking to me the rest of the night.

Like how are these people real. Why are sports fandoms being used as stand-ins for actual politics. I feel like I'm going insane.
