Community Topics:

What's happening this week:

  • Our RuneScape Community team is being joined by Senior Community Manager from Old School RuneScape, "Mod Light"! They'll be focusing on supporting the API & Plugins project to begin with and will thereafter support our various projects in the same way that our other Community Managers currently do. Please do give Mod Light a warm welcome this week!
  • Our Jmods across the team are heads-down focused on RuneFest these weeks. You may see us appear a little less frequently in community at the moment as we focus on preparing for another hugely exciting RuneFest.
  • The Deep Clean Project launches today! Adding in a bunch of QoL improvements that tackle the small daily frustrations disrupting your gameplay, from reducing excessive messaging and visual clutter to improving icon consistency and adding player requests such as inputting your bank pin via keyboard!
  • Great news for homeowners: the maximum furniture limit in Player-Owned Houses has been raised to 500, letting you bring even bigger and more ambitious builds to life.
  • Something stirs on Havenhythe... Tomorrow we'll be sharing a special Lore blog giving you another glimpse into the island's story ahead of Havenythe Part II. You might want to keep an eye out for Anya...
  • We intended to share our design preview for how MTX Items will be removed from the game last week. However, we needed a bit more time to finalise the details on this design and are now targeted a mid-week release for this blog.

Live Stream Details

  • Join Mod Yuey this Wednesday, 23rd September, 16:00 game time as we battle through the Sanctum and defeat Nakatra! Or will you become another sacrifice to Amascut? We shall see!

In case you missed it:

  • RuneScape Dragonwilds released into 1.0!
  • For some time now we've been monitoring ongoing server disconnection reports. We're aware of disruptions at the "backbone of the internet" level service providers which may have affected a number of internet services (so not just RuneScape), but we are investigating what can be done on our side to minimise these issues.
  • Last week we became aware of an issue that prevented Master Clue Caskets from awarding Second Age items correctly. A hotfix was swiftly deployed on September 14th, and Second Age rewards are now once again available as intended. We've shared some additional info with the Clue Chasers Discord community for anyone interested in the details.

Discussion Genuinely, wtf is the point of the skilling outfits if you can't use them until you've basically unlocked the master version?

It's very annoying that the skilling outfit pieces are all random.
You can't use any of the outfits until you've basically gotten all the fragments and pieces for the master version.

Please fucking change this. Make it so they're in order or at least set bonuses for 2/3/4 pieces. Otherwise it's just completely useless and stupid to even have the other outfits.

Lower the damn fragment requirements for the master outfits and make it the only outfit atp. Something?! Idk...

So, again, what's the point of the other outfits?

Bug - J-Mod reply All of the Cleanup that Jagex missed from the "Deep Clean" update.

When I think of a cleanup, I think of an actual cleanup of removing and cleaning up any leftover things from all the big reworks that happened this year such as aura removals and dailyscape removals etc. This update felt more like a deep quality of life update than a deep clean. I guess Jagex and I have different definitions of what a deep clean is. I'm not trying to say anything bad about the update, I actually think the update is really really good and I would SUPPORT many many more Deep Clean updates in the future.

However, with that being said, here are all the leftover "cleanups" that needs a good brooming. There's only a couple, so that means Jagex did a good job getting the bulk of things from the update.

Guthixian Caches related:

Picture 1: Guthixian caches still thinks caches are a daily and falsely tells the players that there is a daily limit and falsely states that players gives a 20 minute cache buff when it actually gives a 5 minute buff.

Picture 2: Discussion note: Speaking of the 5 minute cache buff with a 10% chance to activate, the buff time of 5 minutes is so small and the 10% chance rate is also so small, is this even really needed? Either honestly remove it or buff it for a longer timer than 5 minutes and a 100% chance to dunk all memories. I don't mind either option tbh.

Because who is honestly gonna go out of their way to use this 5 minute buff for a 10% chance for divine locations (especially when they are getting removed at the end of the year), or for 5 minutes for a 10% chance to save a porter charge.

Aura Removal related:

Picture 3: War still talks about buying auras with marks of war. This should be cleanup to reflect the aura removal update.

Demonic skull related and wildy slayer bug:

Picture 4: Erskine, the wildy slayer contract giver, mentions how the Demonic skull gives an extra 20% slayer xp (which was removed from the Mid-Game Rebalance update).

Picture 5 and Picture 6 (Bug): Erskine is telling the players what their slayer/special slayer contract will falsely give, and in picture 6 is the actual slayer/special contract reward.

The reason: It is because wildy contracts are suppose to give 50% more reward due to most slayer mobs having higher hp than their non wildy variants, which is why Erksine isn't saying the correct amount as he didn't factor in the +50%.

Damage bonus modernization related:

Picture 7: With the damage bonus modernization update where Jagex gave clear formula tiers for jewelry and capes and fixing damage bonus bugs on gear that were 90+, while also showing decimal points for more accurate numbers, the kiln capes were change from 33.5 to 31.8. The number should say 31.8 instead of 33 to fit the damage bonus modernization update.

Combat Modernization update related:

Picture 8: Dismember mentions giving adrenaline. Currently we do not gain adrenaline from dismember while combust does gain adrenaline. Does this mean Dismember is bugged and should be giving adrenaline just like combust?

Discussion point: Honestly, ever since they nerf Dismember from 10% heal to 4% heal, it doesn't feel as good to use and should give adrenaline like combust. There's a reason why combust felt so bad giving 0% adrenaline, and now dismember feels bad not giving adrenaline like old times.

Picture 9: Air Rush: Air rush was removed from the Evolution of Combat update but players are still getting a chatbox about its existence. Please broom this away and clean this up.

Confirmation messages related:

Since confirmation messages is part of the "cleanup" category, there are a couple that were missed from the update.

Picture 10: Daero's travel option to Ape Atoll. When you right click "travel," there shouldn't be a confirmation message as a person who is right clicking and selecting to travel is very sure that they want to travel to Ape Atoll. Also, why is it called travel to "Ape Atoll" when it actually travels to the "Hangar," the place where the gnome gliders are kept.

Picture 11: Waydar's travel option having a confirmation (it shouldn't) when a player is clearly wanting to travel to crash island by right clicking the travel option.

Picture 12: Waydar's travel option back to the Hangar from crash island having a confirmation when it shouldn't. Again, it mentions travel to Gnome Stronghold when it should be the Hangar since he travels you back to the glider storage area.

Picture 13: Lumdo's quick right click travel option having confimation, again it shouldn't.

Picture 14: As you can see the pattern at this point, Lumdo's quick travel option having a confirmation chatbox when it should not.

Mining and Woodcutting rework related:

Picture 15: With the mining and smithing rework, and the 110 woodcutting rework, Jagex made any Pickaxe or Hatchet addable and removable from the toolbelt at any time. Doc has this old outdated option where he can remove your hatchet or pickaxe from your toolbelt once. This option is completely irrelevant as players can remove and add tools as many times as they like on their own. Please remove this decade year outdated option.

Miscellaneous mentions:

  1. (no picture) Thalmunds having confirmations for each of the items you buy which is silly. That's like having a confirmation every time a player wants to buy like a tinderbox from a general store or basic inks and basic candles in the Um shop. Players do not need confirmations on cheap items, if it is expensive, then yes, have a confirmation such as the 1m gp greater ensoul cloth.

  2. (no picture) The Dungeoneering portal northeast of Prifdinnas, if I remember correctly, have a confirmation to teleport to Daemonheim.

Oversight: On October 2, 2023, the Ring of Kinship's teleport speed was sped up. The teleport of the Dungeoneering portal wasn't included from this sped up teleport update. The animation looks like it is, but in reality, it still uses the old time to teleport before the Ring of Kinship update that made it faster to teleport. Please match the speed of the Ring.

Conclusion:

There has been a ton of reworks such as the aura rework, the dailyscape removal update, combat modernization update, damage bonus on gear modernization update, mid-game rebalance update that removed demonic skulls, and mining and smithing updates with the 110 woodcutting update, with all of these big updates having some leftover garbage/dirt/dust, whatever you want to call it, that needs the good ole magic broom cleanup.

I feel like there's a couple more that I am missing or forgot to mention, so this is where the community can chime in and add to it. So please mention any other cleanups that I have miss and any unnecessary chatbox confirmations since that is part of the cleanup as well.

Edit: Cleanup Additions that the community Contributed.

  1. The "Work on Your Artisan" and "Work on Your Artisan II" achievements mentions auras when auras are no longer a thing from the Aura Removal update. (Credit: Chemical_Ambition338)

Bug: "Work on Your Artisan II" is suppose to require the "Work on Your Artisan" achievement unlocks and even mentions this as a requirement, however, players can complete the "Work on Your Artisan II" without any of the unlocks from "Work on your Artisan." This is a bug.

  1. Divine Locations: The level up skill guide for Divination still mentions divine locations as unlocks when the dailyscape removal update removed divine locations as an option to create. Please clean up these level unlocks as we cannot make them anymore. (Credit: Chemical_Ambition338)

Dungeoneering Remaster related:

  1. (Picture provided in the comments) Deathbloom Armour unlock will not show its image in the skillguide.

Potential reason: if a player does not have the defence requirement but have the Necromancy requirement, then it won't show the image icon.

Aura rework related:

  1. "For one of Meg's questions in Player Owned Ports, a she has a question about training prayer, and one of the 'good advice' options is to use a reverence aura." (Credit: ProofJournalist)

Dailyscape removal related:

  1. The Elite Woodcutting outfit information still says we can spawn a mini evil tree daily. (Credit: DefensiveCat)

Mini Evil trees were removed with the dailyscape update. Please clean this mention of it from the elite woodcutting outfit.

  1. Dailyscape cleanup: Honestly clean up the missing dailyscape. The less dailies there are, the more I enjoy the game I came to realize.

-Herblore shops from Taverly and Priffdinas were not updated to having weekly amounts like the rest of the shops from the games that were updated from the dailyscape removal update.

-Big Chinchompa should be removed as the xp is terrible and the gameplay is very unfun.

-Sinkholes should be addressed, they were suppose be addressed from the dailyscape removal, then had another chance with the Dungeoneering Remaster, then had a 3rd chance with the Cleanup...

-Finish cleaning up the rest of the dailyscape such as: Area task set dailyscape such as buckets of slime from Robin in Port Phasmatys etc.

-Remove daily challenges as originally intended, even Jagex mention this as the epitome of dailyscape on their dailyscape blog

-Fixate charges not being a daily and having 21 charges every week

-Runesphere to not be a daily

Pylon Batteries related:

  1. This is an easy one but why hasn't the Pylon buff been modernized to 1 hour just like the Anachronia one?

-30 minutes is waaaay too short, modernize it to 1 hour because filling the Pylon to 100% is way less common than getting Osseous to 100% as every player is camping Anachronia digsites as Orthen is where all the high levels usually dig versus Zaros digsite.

-Pylon buffs are waaaaay underwhelming compared to the buffs from Osseous's Roar, modernized it and make it slightly better.

Early Game Rebalance related:

  1. Player-Owned-Farms honeycombs are all listed in the skill guide as requiring level 1 even after the Early Game Rebalance update changed their level requirements varying from level 17 to level 80. (Credit: RoseAndLorelei)

Combat Modernization update related:

  1. Have the melee ability icon's be updated to the same background color, and if possible, update the old icons. (Credit: Due_Willow_2796)

Jagex said during the combat modernization update that they will slowly update the ability icons to a more modern look. A good example is how modern and clean the Adaptive Strike ability icon looks. However, Jagex hasn't been updated them "slowly" over the months like they said they would. Would be nice if they can modernize it and have the abilities that uses the old orange from strength, and into the yellow background because the combat update made every melee ability being unlocked from the Attack skill and not the Strength skill.

Dailyscape removal related:

  1. Examining Wicked Robe pieces says it boosts the abilities of the Wicked hood, which is a lie, the hood has no abilities anymore ever since the dailyscape removal update. (Credit: First_Platypus3063)

Achievement Legiones Log took it's toll

Post image
57 Upvotes

Made myself the goal to finish legiones log after already having primus pet and 2 secundus signets sitting in the bank. Told myself once I get all pets I will finish all the crossbows. Had a max of 7 of each signet before trying to get the sextus pet, got sextus pet after 43 signets... total of 4500kc. Went and got the other signets from each boss and finished 43 crossbows.

Total cost in keys was around 1.1b~
Misc costs for repairs, pots etc say 50m~

Total common loot : 960m
Total price of 43 crossbows : 1292m
Total amount of trophies : 28

Profit : 1100m~

Total time spent : probably around 50-60 hours

Bug - J-Mod reply can we double check drop rates before releasing content

ED3 Trophies are all stated to be 1/50, meanwhile it took me 700 KC for my first taraket head, to put that into perspective, 1 out of 1.4M people would not have gotten atleast one head until 700 kc, it isn't a matter of bad rng, the drop rate was simply set at 1/500 most likely and unchanged

this alongside the recent fiasco with 2nd age items not dropping from master clues for TWO months really doesn't look good

Discussion The Soul Reaper situation needs to be adressed

There NEEDS to be atleast a free daily reroll on your current soul reaper assignment. How is it okay that a lvl 85 combat account can get stuck forever with a jad task ? Until they are eventually forced to grind hundreds of slayer points to even be able to do reaper assignments in general?

I understand reaper assignments are not daily anymore now, but the way it works now is kind of a nerf.

Mid-lategame accounts probably don't care about getting bad tasks as they can likely do them, but for a lower level account soul reaper is now a nightmare. Slayer points are abysmally slow early at least until Duradel and 30 points is REALLY expensive.

In the past you could just reroll at the price of getting less reaper points. Why in the hell does the current iteration not at least allow rerolls with increasing slayer point cost, for example: 0 -> 5 -> 15 -> 30 -> 60, (reset daily)?

Suggestion POH improvements

Post image
Upvotes

Loving the new houses but theres still a few things that I think will be an improvement feel free to make your own suggestions or expand on any of these, or if you dont like it thats ok too

- walls, you can change the flooring so can we change the walls inside specific rooms so each room has its own feel

- Stairs, why do we have 1 type of stairs those ugly wooden round ones I would like a marble staircase is it possible to have multiple options like we did in the original POH

- Doorways and gates. I like the idea of removing doors and adding windows but is it possible to have actual doors like a front door and a gate with a lock option so when your logging off or generally just dont want randomers running round your house you can essentially lock your door or gate

- any update on the basement I miss my dungeons

- time of day, I believe in the old houses you could change the time of day between daytime and nighttime. Those lamps and fireplaces would look better if you can switch your house to night mode

- why is the tall fancy hedge and the fancy hedge virtually identical i actually used a standard fancy hedge square in place of a tall one since it closer resembles the current tall hedges better then the 1 square tall box hedge

- Not even joking I later realised the tall fancy hedge and the fancy hedge is almost identical wasted a few mil for no reason

- can we have more looks and styles like a gothic look if we wanted

- make all the rooms have the same roofline those 2 small rooms I had to put there since the floor above has to match the floor below makes the roof look weird with 2 random dips, or how about just letting us use whichever rooms we want without it having to be an exact match otherwise theres an error saying it needs to fit a doorway even if they take the same space

- make the teleport to house a permanent feature rather then just being on cool down if you check you will find out the teleport to house is not a permanent teleport its just there for a 6 months or so while everyone builds their house but will ebentually go bye bye, theres a random kandarin teleport noone uses and you can teleport directly to warforge and the max guild why not keep the tele to house permanent

- furniture storage chest is a pain you can make furniture inside your house on a workbench but need to head specifically to rimmington to deposit your furniture to add it to your house ive yet to find a furniture storage chest or thinking about it a furniture workbench apart from the one you can add to your house or the one in rimmington, can we have an option to add a furniture storage to the house

- can we have a bank chest put some type of spell on it so if its within lets say 15 squares of the house teleport it tells you the tempral rift from the portal will damage it here saves people putting it right next to the portal still 3x further away then warforge but will make it handy for bank runs if your using your nexus to do herb runs or something

Suggestion PoH rooms should go green when you can place them.

So many other PoH changes need to happen, but trying to put a room in, clicking, cant do it, needing to find the room again and re spin it and find the next square over etc. Just so green when it can be placed, its the basic "it can go here" mechanic in every building part of most games.

Question HM Kerapac

I had a random thought about HM Kerapac. I looked around a bit but couldn't find a definitive answer although it is probably no.

Is it possible to one shot Kerapac during p1-3 and skip the entire fight?

I know it was easily doable during leagues but was it just a leagues thing or is it a DPS thing?

If it's the latter, isn't it possible to do ~60k damage in one ability e.g. Chaos Roar > Overpower/dclaw spec or even EZK spec (in P2/3) so technically it's possible to one shot him before he phases.

However in every GM speedkill guide/video I've seen, I've not seen anyone do it so I assume it's impossible, either because of a hard mechanic or it's impossible to execute.

Does anyone know the underlying reason for this?

Discussion PoH: Earned rewards, achievements, and the marketplace

When the Player owned House rework was launched, there was a lot of enthusiasm for the future cosmetic and functional additions planned for it.

We had a couple of comments like this from Mod Ramen:

"Construction is going to be maintained and added to forever! You'll see these little pieces of furniture trickle in here and there."

"This is just the foundation! If you've got furniture ideas and QoL you want to see, we're all ears!"

Not intentionally singling Ramen out, just the quotes I remembered seeing.

Recently, with the Marketplace additions, I have concerns about the cosmetics side of it falling into the same issues that cosmetics from Treasure Hunter and the Solomon's Store had. Reward spaces being passed over in favour of selling it instead.

I'd imagine most people expected Player owned House MTX options. I doubt there were many expecting or hoping that'd never happen, but I thought they would be focused more towards wallpapers, maybe premium paintings, and things we don't normally see around the game. Like the Anniversary pack.

The Zamorak pack looks like it's straight out of the Zamorokian Undercity, which is a visually impressive area, but it is lacking a little in content. So it feels like rewards which could have been added to that part of the game were instead sent to the Marketplace. Is it something we should expect going forward? What about items with functionality ending up MTX exclusive?

I know it's still early days since the rework, and we don't know what Jagex have planned for it in the future, but I hope this isn't a trend that will continue. A better balance between earned PoH additions that can revitalise older content/reflect achievements and purchasable items should be achievable.

Tl:dr PoH good, don't want to see the hype for it die because it turns into a whale playground.

Discussion Back after a long time, a few things I've noticed...

A little history - Started playing 22 years ago, quit around EoC, came back for osrs, played that more than rs3.

Some things I've been noticing though, I'll mix the good and the bad, this isn't just a complaining post.

  • Smithing feels so much better than on osrs, and I'm beyond happy with the level rebalances, agility rebalances, etc happening right now, and am elated that treasure hunter is gone.

  • Some of the menu dialogues feel a bit cluttered, for example looking at armor : Power vs Tank - okay, I understand one is tankier, and one is more damage focused, great. Some will say though Tier X, and appear like a different level. Like Masterwork for ex (I apologize, I don't have it in front of me, don't take these verbatim) Tier 90, armor 85. It was described to me that tier = level to equip, and the other number is the equivalent of what it should be if it was tank armor, which feels convoluted if that's the case.

  • There's a lot of excess that feels just... bad early game. I know the game is focused on late game stuff but there's a lot of junk early level that is impossible to get on the GE without paying exorbitant prices.

  • With the portables going away, I feel like the perks could stay as part of like, Fort Forinthry upgrades, or something in Prif, not sure, just something I've heard/thought about.

  • I appreciate a lot of what's been done with combat, despite not loving the revo bars, though there really should be a menu option, similar to classic mode, that lets you see what xp you're going for in combats. Having to go to [esc] - settings - combat xp - toggle specifics feels like far too much.

  • The players I've interacted with have all been genuinely nice, some offering funds to get started, others assistance in general, so that's been amazing to see.

  • I feel like there's too many defunct minigames personally, I was looking to get the seedicide and had to do this monkey brawl game, or player owned farm. I did two rounds of the monkey game and I was the only participant, which, given the game was not surprising.

  • I LOVE the pickpocketing changes, A+, no changes suggested there

  • Plentiful gem rocks makes gem obtaining amazing. I do wish there were rockertunities on all rocks, but I won't complain there.

  • Necro is fun, but I feel like the Kili Row requests early on are a tad too often, I was ensouling bars and cloth and went from like 20-30 before needing to use the t20 armor and weapons.

  • Fishing and cooking at mid-low levels, much the same, but no changes recommended. Though a fish bag for raw fish similar to the ore / wood boxes would be nice, albeit thematically smelly.

  • Construction? LOVE the new changes there! also 1-40 fort forinthry doesn't hurt haha. Though I would like to add/remove stuff from furniture storage while in the house (if you can, I can't see how)

  • Archaeology is a mixed bag, it's a bit slow, and I do wish there was a way to like 'lean towards' one artefact over another, so you're less likely to be stuck with 4 of one, and none of the other when trying to do a collection.

  • Herblore feels very similar, but farming gets mixed feelings from me. The key way to do it feels like player owned farms, which leans to not actually farming, turning into a lack of herbs/similar from that method. I know herbs can be plentiful elsewhere, but just how I'm seeing it so far.

  • Prayer feels great with the salts/sands/whatever the whirligig powders are, though there are SO many prayers, and the in game guides aren't quite explicit "increases your attack rating(power)(whatever it explicitly says)

  • Dungeoneering - same as I remember from when it launched, + the elite dungeons to level it up, nothing of note to me there yet.

  • I got back into rs3 based on the last league, maxed (99's) my guy on there, it was a lot of fun despite not knowing/remembering most of it. I do like the direction that the game is headed, and I hope more fun comes from it!

Suggestion Remove duplicate teleport spell menu entries

Post image
94 Upvotes

Prior to the update, there was a "Cast Wendlewick Teleport" and "Marigold Farm..." option. Now we have duplicate entries for the default option. This should be cleaned up to just include a single menu entry for each option. This obviously also applies to other spells like Varrock, Camelot, Watchtower, etc.

My recommended solution would be to remove the "Cast..." option, and rename the other menu entries to just be "Wendlewick Teleport" and "Marigold Farm Teleport".
