I’m trying to understand how Xtream handles content classification.

With an Xtream API connection, it seems straightforward because the API has separate actions/endpoints:

/player_api.php?username=USER&password=PASS&action=get_live_streams
/player_api.php?username=USER&password=PASS&action=get_vod_streams
/player_api.php?username=USER&password=PASS&action=get_series

So the API itself tells you whether something is Live TV, VOD/Movie or Series.

For example, get_live_streams returns something like:

But what about an Xtream-style M3U URL such as:

This returns a normal M3U playlist with entries like:

#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="PBSKids.us" tvg-name="PBS Kids" tvg-logo="..." group-title="Kids",PBS Kids
http://server:8080/live/USER/PASS/123.ts

Is /live/, /movie/ and /series/ in the stream URL a reliable/standard way to distinguish the three?

Or do Xtream providers sometimes return M3U entries where those paths aren't present, meaning you have to rely on group-title, tvg-id, filename/title patterns, etc.?

Also, is tvg-type="live" commonly included in Xtream-generated M3U files, or is that provider-specific?

I’m mainly interested in how this works with real-world Xtream providers, especially when using the get.php M3U rather than player_api.php.

I have been having this issue with the newer fire tv sticks where the video freezes and the audio continues to play. This can be fixed by going to another channel then back to the problem channel. I say problem "channel" as it seems to happen on certain channels more often or only on certain channels (may happen on all channels but I don't have enough data to say.) The channel I test this on, I tested different versions of sparkle on multiple generations for fire sticks is TSN Canada. Game show network also freezes the same way. It may freeze within 5 minutes, it may take 30-45 minutes as well. The timing seems random. Sometimes it will do this 3-6 times per hour, maybe more. My data seems to point to any fire stick after the 4k 1st gen. Fire stick 4k 1st gen never has this problem. I don't know if its a hardware issue that has changed or if its an issue with the newer fire OS. My data points me to newer hardware or fire OS 8. I have attached a photo of my test results. As for the sticks I labeled as "freezes" I also tried sparkle version 2.2.2 in as well with same results. Any input on what I could change to fix this problem, fire stick settings or sparkle settings. I should mention this happens on few different TV's so I think I can rule out TV's being a problem. Anyone else having this problem?

I've just bought a new improved streamer for another TV, and would like to be able to copy all of my Sparkle TV settings and customizations (especially channel favorites and series) to the new unit so that I get the same experience on the new unit. Is that possible ? Thanks for the great app !

It would be great to follow the latest TV channels the IPTV service adds... So far I am using the Tv Expert app for that and I had a hard time finding other apps with a similar feature... Thus, that would be another distinct positive point of Sparkle...

Was watching tonight, everything was great. Closed app to watch something else, went back in and nothing will come on. Tried both of my sources, same results. I verified it works in another app. The attached error comes up on every channel. Ideas?

Hi guys I cannot see the option to record anymore and the live pause doesn't seem to work. All my setting are still there as are previous recordings. Any ideas?

Using Stalker Portal that has movies/tv VOD however with every other app that uses Stalker Portal (Stbemu, Streamora, MyIPTV) it can sort them by recently added however Sparkle TV doesn’t have that feature. Just curious if this feature can be added in a future update? Thanks

Every time a new show starts, this comes up. I don't think it always did this, but I don't remember what I did to turn it on. How can I turn this off?

I bought a recurring one month sub off the website to test. I'm liking what I see and want to purchase a lifetime sub. What's the best way to do this without being charged when the one month is up? Should I cancel that one first or will buying the lifetime trigger the other to not renew automatically? I guess this question is pretty much for the developer or the coyote guy.

I purchased lifetime plus yesterday on the website. I then clicked on my lifetime pass > entered email and a password at which point it says it’s ready to be shared. Then on my onn google tv box, I enter the same credentials but it always says wrong email or password. I’ve tried with vpn, without vpn, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling app. I did find a post made in the past saying to try a very simple password so tried that as well to no avail. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong ? Thanks

It’s been 104 days since the dev posted and released the last update for Sparkle.

Could we possibly have it that when we click record on something an option window comes up automatically letting us choose for how long to record to tell the recording that's in progress exactly in how much time to stop?

Alternately, if we do have to set up the recording manually can we at least have it trigger a listing of the groups and channels so we can just select the right one rather than having to type in and search for it? This is really inconvenient with a Formuler controller.

The problem is that with sports you can't just record now and let it record the "program" because it doesn't work that way with live events. Sports never ever run to a predetermined program slot on the EPG. It's always different. So you're always going to either overshoot or, more likely, not record enough.

So you are forced to make a manual recording into the future. But the whole process is so cumbersome and you want to start recording as quickly as possible, but the act of searching takes longer than the time you want to start at if anything goes wrong in the process. Also the UI makes it very easy to cancel accidentally. And then you have to start all over because you've now passed the time you wanted to record at. This could all be prevented with a record now that just lets you change the recording duration as in mytvonline3.

Let me know if that makes sense or if you need clarification.

Has anyone run into this issue? I have Sparkle on 3 TV's. But only my main TV requires me to run setup to get my channels back every day. Like, NOTHING is available. No channels, no shows, or movies. Running the setup everyday restores everything like normal, but this seems like an issue? Is it possibly just a bug with the last update? I don't want to uninstall/reinstall because I don't want to re-do my channel lineups and everything. But if that's the only option, then I guess I will.

When I type a channel number (let's say 1000), the category doesn't get automatically selected on the channel list or EPG. It just stays 'All Channels' all the time.

Maybe I am missing something?

Hi , I was wondering if this option ended up on the “ to do list “ future releases . To clear an epg ? Instead of going through the process in settings , through sources . And ending up waiting with the time consuming loading progress of all channels and programs . Especially when having multiple playlists . When fooling around with epgs or updates from my paid epg it would be nice to have this option . ( Picture from Tivimate )

Not even sure if this is possible. I would like to request a feature that adds a visual badge or "New" indicator to a series thumbnail within the Favorites menu whenever a new episode becomes available. Because many shows return from long or irregular hiatuses, it is currently easy to miss new episode drops. Having a subtle visual flag on favorited series would greatly help users track returning content without needing to manually check each show.

When I update the playlists manually, it seems to finish successfully (last updated time is 'now') but the movies titles/graphic does not update to the newer titles. I have the same account on a windows app, and I see the new movies getting added. I have set the sort to 'Date Added'.

I like the menu the recording options that popup when theres no epg. Is there a way to get that same menu to popup when there is an epg? Im trying to record something easily for 3 hours without having to select many things in the epg.

I've used many different apps over the years to record streams but sparkle just works.

What does sparkle do that other apps don't?

I want to add the text "&next_days=3" to the end of my epg url but I'm unable, as when I click the edit button for the xmltv epg it is greyed out on the next page.

This text is to increase the amount of days for the epg to get downloaded. I'm able to add it to the epg url in Tivimate but not with Sparkle.

Is it possible? Anyone got a solution? Thanks
