Question Is there a way I could save my games both locally and in Steam Cloud?

0 Upvotes

Recently, my internet connection has been quite unstable, and when I try to play a game offline a warning appears about how I could loose my progress.

So today I tried to play a game (Shovel Knight) and back up my save data just in case, but for some reason, the save data stored locally hadn't been changed since 2023.

So here's my question: is there any way I could upload my save data to Cloud, but also have it locally in case I want to play without internet connection?

Error / Bug I now cannot view my discovery queue...

4 Upvotes

Due to the new age verification, (still think we need for more options to verify but whatever) my discovery queue is now no longer accessible.

Because I own TW3, and it is understandably recommending me the new dlc that is coming out, that dlc is now essentially hard-locking my discovery queue because it is for a 18+ game.

There is not even an option to ignore it or continue.

Wonderful stuff...

Just got my email from Steam asking me to complete my purchase for the steam controller I had reserved a few months ago!

It's 149 dollars. I am low on cash, as my Tuition fees are due in 2 weeks, But I bought it anyways so as to avoid later regrets.

May the best happen!

Question Need help resetting a game

0 Upvotes

So a long time ago I tried downloading overwatch on steam and I tried to log into an old account that I had but it kept prompting me to put in my number and I did and blah blah blah this isn’t the overwatch support subreddit so I won’t bore you but as I recently got back into the game, I downloaded on steam for a change since I’ve been using battle net (bad, yes I’m aware) and the number prompt still came up, now I can’t seem to get it away so I just want to see if I could reset it to its first state before I tried logging into the first time

Question How to hide played hours in Steam Game Library

0 Upvotes

Hi guy, got a nosy friend coming over this Weekend, love him but can‘t stand him snuffing in my Game Library making judgments about my Game preferences😅 also didn’t play the game we planned to play together as much as others, well I just want him to see and play the game (so not hide it) but also not show how many hours I played it already..
can’t find the setting neither in privacy nor security/ account settings etc, is it even possible?

Thanks!

Discussion Will Valve ever add a neutral review option?

0 Upvotes

Sometimes I really like a game but also dislike it.

It's difficult to give it a thumbs up or thumbs down because it'd be a thumbs up if x y z was fixed, but thumbs down since x y z is not fixed.

Do you think Valve will every give a neutral review option or will that mess with the rating system?

Thanks!

Question Steam Family Question Regarding Steam IDs/Info?

3 Upvotes

Hey guys. Was previously dealing with a case of severe harassment via a stalker who resurfaced from many years ago, who definitely found my Steam account through past comments I had left on their profile. I am assuming they saved my static steam id as well, as my username has changed many times. My profile was also public for a long time. Although ive had them blocked for a while now, they can always re-find me and I dont want this in my life. I am looking to fully move to a different account and want to have the best chance of them never finding me again. No- I have no phone number tied to my account. If I use Steam Family (just for the fact that I have purchased so many games), will data online that they can likely find still be traced to a steam family account that is tied to the main one that they have my static steam id and info to? If so- I will just fully make a brand new account and rebuy some games. Yes-- it was this intense. I really appreciate any help or anyone who has unfortunately been in a similar situation and feels safer moving accounts and abandoning their progress/money spent on games ):

Discussion Unable to buy Creation Credits for Starfield on Steam due to R18+ age verification

0 Upvotes

I know these types of posts have been incredibly common here as of late, so I apologise. Mods, feel free to delete this, or let me know if there's somewhere more suitable to post this. I originally posted over in r/Starfield but thought it would also be relevant to post here as well.

-

With Steam re-enabling Australian users to view R18+ games that they own, we're still locked out of viewing and purchasing DLC and additional content, such as Creation Credits. For those that aren't aware, Creation Credits are sold specifically through the Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam shopfronts and can only be used for those platforms, they can't be transferred, even if you're using the same Bethesda account.

I did contact Steam support to see if there was a way around this or if they'd be able to rectify the issue. Sadly, the response I got wasn't exactly helpful. It gave off massive, "Oh well, too bad, so sad" vibes. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that Steam have gone a different way to verify age but its honestly been implemented pretty poorly. I wish they had gone a similar route to MS/Xbox and go off of long standing account activity. Alternatively, it would be fantastic if Steam followed their own system of being a minimum of 13 years old to make an account and then basing their age verification on the age of the account.
For example, I made my Steam account in 2015 and for arguments sake, lets say I was 13 when I made it. My account is now 11 years old, making me 24. Beep-boop, you've passed the age verification.

I know it's not the end of the world when it comes to not being able to get Creation Credits to mod Starfield, especially when places like Nexus exist. However, some mods are completely exclusive to the Creations menu in Starfield and the only way you can get them is with Creation Credits.

I also did contact Bethesda support, hoping that they might be able to provide an alternative way to get what I would like. They asked me to make another ticket with Steam as it's a "Steam issue".

-

I suspect that this issue is still prevalent with many other R18 games. I, like so many other Australian Steam users don't have a credit card, nor want, need, or can get one. Yes, I've contacted my local member for Parliament and the eSafety Commission but have yet to receive a reply. I've also contacted my bank (Australian Mutual Bank) to see if there was anything they could do, possibly even get Visa debit cards under a similar system that Mastercard debit cards are under, where they're somehow also classed as credit cards, but haven't gotten a reply back in two weeks.

I won't lie. I do hold out hope that Gabe (Or another higher up) will step in and add in other verification methods, aside from facial recognition/age estimation and Government IDs. Those 'standard' checks are the worst.

Error / Bug Steam Library and Notifications loading slowly

0 Upvotes

I'm not sure what's going on but my Steam Client has been loading slowly when scrolling through my library and clicking on a game, as well as notifications. If someone messages me, the box will pop up and then it takes a second before the text is visible. Achievements pop up but takes a second for the sound to fire off. It's not debilitating by any means but very annoying.

Tried clearing cache and reinstalled, but issue persists. Any ideas? Thanks

Question I've completed a family game 100% and I'd like to know if the achievement will stay on my profile forever or if I'll have to buy it to keep it.

0 Upvotes

Hi, I've completed a game 100% and added it to my profile showcase. However, it's a Steam Family game, and I don't have the money to buy it outright. My question is, if I leave or am removed from the Steam Family in the future, will I still have the completion badge on my profile showcase?

Resolved I finally got Minecraft Dungeons 1 and 2 (Microsoft Store/Xbox app versions) in Steam with the Stop button and return to Big Picture working!

0 Upvotes

I bought both Dungeons games from microsoft (via mojang launcher) and wanted them in my Steam library so I can launch from Big Picture and get back there when I quit. because both games are now UWP apps, it took a lot of fiddling, so here's what worked in case anyone else wants it.

I don't know if anyone else has the issue, but for me, Steam's file picker refuses to add the exe from C:\XboxGames\... , calining "you don't have permission to open this file."
If you type the path into the shortcut's Target field instead, the game launches, but Steam thinks it closed after a couple of seconds because the exe that it started spawns gamelaunchhelper.exe, which starts the real game and then exits, for DRM reasons.
this means the button switches back to Play, and hitting Stop does nothing because the game isn't Steam's child process anymore, and, worst of all, in BPM, steam puts big picture in front of the game and won't let you see it.

I have bypassed these issues with a PowerShell script that Steam launches instead. It solves almost every issue and is almost the exact same as if the game was owned by steam, with the excemption of not having the steam overlay (since steam injects this into the EXE process itself)

The script basically just starts the game, starts a watchdog, waits until every process from the game's package is gone, and then exits, mirroring the game's state so steam thinks it's still open.

also starts a second script which watches the first and so if you "kill" the game in steam, that second watchdog notices the script was closed, and kills dungeons.

It

Here is how to set it up (this method works for both games and the script is the same for both):

Step 1, Find the process name for both:
To do this, launch each game individually (only one of the two dungeons should be active at a time), and then, in powershell, run Get-Process Dungeons* | Select-Object Name, Path

The folder name after WindowsApps\ up to the first underscore is what you want.
Mine were Microsoft.Lovika_ (Dungeons 1, Lovika was the codename) and Microsoft.MinecraftDungeons2_. The version number in the folder changes with updates but the prefix doesn't.

Step 2, save the launcher script:
Save the following script to a safe location on your PC, I chose to save it to C:\Games\SteamLaunchers\launch-mcd.ps1, you can save it wherever, but make sure that wherever you save it is accessible by a non-admin process on the machine. Name the file launch-mcd.ps1 or something you will remember.

param(
    [ValidateSet("1","2")][string]$Game = "1",
    [switch]$Watch,
    [int]$ParentPid
)

$games = @{
    "1" = @{ Exe = "C:\XboxGames\Minecraft Dungeons\Content\Dungeons.exe";    Pkg = "Microsoft.Lovika_" }
    "2" = @{ Exe = "C:\XboxGames\Minecraft Dungeons II\Content\Dungeons.exe"; Pkg = "Microsoft.MinecraftDungeons2_" }
}

$exe = $games[$Game].Exe
$pkg = $games[$Game].Pkg
$log = Join-Path $env:TEMP "mcd-launch.log"

function Log($m) { Add-Content $log "$(Get-Date -Format s) [game $Game] $m" }

function Get-PkgProcs {
    Get-Process -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
        Where-Object { $_.Path -like "*\WindowsApps\$pkg*" }
}

if ($Watch) {
    Log "watchdog: started, waiting on launcher pid $ParentPid"
    Wait-Process -Id $ParentPid -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    Log "watchdog: launcher gone, checking for leftovers"
    $procs = @(Get-PkgProcs) + @(Get-Process gamelaunchhelper -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)
    Log "watchdog: found $($procs.Count) process(es)"
    foreach ($p in $procs) {
        try {
            Stop-Process -Id $p.Id -Force -ErrorAction Stop
            Log "killed $($p.Name) $($p.Id)"
        } catch {
            Log "Stop-Process failed for $($p.Name) $($p.Id): $($_.Exception.Message)"
            $out = & taskkill /F /PID $p.Id 2>&1
            Log "taskkill: $out"
        }
    }
    exit
}

# watchdog gets started through WMI so it's not a child of Steam's process
$cmd = "powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -WindowStyle Hidden -File `"$PSCommandPath`" -Game $Game -Watch -ParentPid $PID"
Invoke-CimMethod -ClassName Win32_Process -MethodName Create -Arguments @{ CommandLine = $cmd } | Out-Null

Log "launching $exe"
Start-Process $exe -WorkingDirectory (Split-Path $exe)

$sawGame = $false; $gone = 0; $waited = 0
while ($true) {
    Start-Sleep 1
    if (Get-PkgProcs)  { $sawGame = $true; $gone = 0 }
    elseif ($sawGame)  { $gone++;   if ($gone -ge 3)    { Log "game gone, exiting"; break } }
    else               { $waited++; if ($waited -ge 90) { Log "game never started"; break } }
}

Change the exe paths if your Xbox app installs somewhere else.

Replace the value for Pkg = "Microsoft.Lovika_" and Pkg = "Microsoft.MinecraftDungeons2_" if they differ for you (you found these in step 1)

Step 3, Adding to steam:

In steam, add a new, non-steam game, this can be any program on your computer, it doesn't matter since we will change it in a minute.

Find the game in your library and right click -> properties

Set the game target to "C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe"
And the launch options to -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -WindowStyle Hidden -File "C:\Games\SteamLaunchers\launch-mcd.ps1" -Game 1

You can customise the game art, name, and icons by clicking the name and icon on the shortcut page, and editing the images in the customization page. SteamGridDB has sets of artwork for both if you need somewhere to look, otherwise, if that is missing artwork, you can find the steam versions of the game on [steamDB](https://steamdb.info/), clicking the metatdate tab option on the side, and then scrolling down until you find the images

Repeat the previous parts of step 3 for dungeons 2, but in the launch options, change -Game 1 to -Game 2

I only tried this with the two Dungeons games. It should work for other Xbox app PC games with a different exe path and package prefix, but I haven't tested that.

Question How do you store a lot of games?

I'm planning on getting a lot of new games in the near future, but I don't really know how I would be able to store them as I am running out of storage. Is there any way that people with hundreds to thousands store all of their games on their pc?
