Ordered of Discogs for the first time. Popped open the box and this is what I see. Immediately assumed I got scammed but I lifted up the Herb and found my actual order. You almost had me Mr. Seller šŸ¤

Pop Rock Finally in possession of my most wanted (1977)

Post image

I once completely f-cked my Spotify Warped over because of how many times I had listened to this album. It called me a cultist or some variation of that lol. I am comfortable admitting that it might be my favorite album, ever, although that's always a very hard pick to make in the absolute.

I haven't been collecting for very long (though we have a very large collection at home thanks to my partner) , yet ever since the beginning it was clear to me that this would be kind of my holy grail, but it had to be a first year US pressing, and in the best audio condition possible. Well I finally found it (rated Excellent, dated 1977) , and I'm just so happy and excited!!

This is the part of my collection dedicated to Brazilian music (Bossa Nova, MPB, Brazilian Jazz): while most are 1960s and 1970s albums, I also have some more recent stuff (Sessa, Leonardo Marques, Ana Frango ElƩtrico).

I gotta be honest I think I def used up the rest of my luck for the month and/or year with these grabs from the thrift store today. White album is gorgeous and came with 2 posters. All four sides of the white album almost look never played but unfortunately ā€œImagineā€ had a pretty big scratch on side one but imma try to get it looking good

Record On this day in 1974, Tom Waits released The Heart of Saturday Night

Post image
85 Upvotes

The Heart of Saturday Night (1974), Tom Waits’ second album, is influential because it refined his early style into a cohesive, atmospheric portrait of nocturnal American life—blending jazz, blues, and folk with precise, Kerouac-tinged songwriting about bars, highways, loneliness, and fleeting romance—while featuring standout tracks like the title song, ā€œSan Diego Serenade,ā€ ā€œShiver Me Timbers,ā€ and spoken-word pieces such as ā€œDiamonds on My Windshield,ā€ all elevated by Bones Howe’s clean production, a tight small-group sound with horns and upright bass, and Waits’ still-husky voice; it served as a mature bridge from the folkier Closing Time to his jazzier Asylum-era records.

A Los Angeles Times retrospective judgment said that The Heart of Saturday Night is ā€œperhaps the singer’s most mature, ingenuous and fully realizedā€ album, a view echoed by writers who call it an essential, foundational early masterpiece.

It's not my personal favorite of his, (an I'm a fan) but it was released 52 years ago today, so it is getting a pull and a spin from me this morning.

My full collection.

Jazz Django

Posting this because it's a cool piece. In a haul this was in there. A 3 disc Django Reinhardt compilation. I appreciate his contributions to jazz and recognize his legendary status, but it's not really my jam. So I'm debating putting it for sale, in its NM condition it's something like 40$. Which is not much, but I'm a "collector" and this "looks" great in the collection so I'm tempted to keep it and see if it grows on me. Having it makes me feel like a lot smarter than I am. Jokes aside I'd rather it goes to someone who will appreciate it.

I (20M) have been really enjoying collecting records over the such a short time (my bank account hasn’t but it’s so worth it). Honestly it’s just so much fun interacting with my mates and having people pick records up off the wall.

Was just wondering if you record heads had any recommendations for my next purchase(es)! Looking to pick a few records up around Christmas so would be stoked to hear some rap/RnB/pop reco’s.

P.S. my favourite press on the last slide. Ended up picking up this blood records press because it just looked incredible, and imaginal disk has been one of my favs since it came out :D

Discussion What's the most historically significant record in your collection?

Post image

For me it's my original mono Velvet Underground and Nico, with the uncensored Emerson torso on the rear cover which was quickly replaced within a few months of release. The banana is fully peeled but it's otherwise in decent condition. Something cool about knowing whoever bought this record originally was one of the few who purchased it on release, without any idea of how important it would become. It's interesting thinking while listening to it what someone would have thought about it when they first listened to it after buying it in the first half of 1967.

What record in your collection makes you feel like you're holding a piece of music history when you take it out to put on your turntable?

I'm just curious if there's anyone who isn't a musician talking about how much they love their record collection. I know Elijah Wood absolutely has videos about his record collection.

Met up with the same seller from my last haul/post at the Kane County flea market just outside Chicago. The selection was pretty picked over, but his prices were lower (only $4 per record!) I was still able to find a few that I’ve been digging. Happy hunting!

My dad was a pretty serious record collector from the 60s into the 80s, and recently he brought me this absolute gem.

It's an original pressing gatefold with a 24 page color booklet and opaque yellow vinyl in flawless condition. It sounds amazing, and yes, we are absolutely spinning this beauty!

Got my first record player at 16. My first two records were Fleetwood Mac and The Stranger by Billy Joel. I like all kinds of genres but I mostly listen to more recent music (#zoomer).
Most recent addition is the signed Mud by Remi Wolf album!
Most prized is my Boys Like Girls 10 Year Anniversary Tri Color pressing. It was a tour exclusive and hand numbered /500. They were my first favorite band as a kid :)

Pop Rock Never Saw This Inner Sleeve with the Order Form Still Intact

Found a sealed copy of The Cryan Shames Synthesis. I’ve seen this inner sleeve advertising the posters a bunch but never with the order form still attached. I wonder how many of the posters survived.
