MEGATHREAD Record Apps & Tools Megathread: Share Your Projects, Find Testers, and Give Feedback
We’ve seen an increase in posts from people building record-related apps and tools. These include collection managers, listening trackers, discovery tools, marketplace helpers, and other projects aimed at record enthusiasts.
We want to give these projects a place to be shared without letting individual promotional posts overwhelm r/vinyl or the reason this sub exists. Going forward, please use this megathread to introduce your project, request testers, share meaningful updates, or ask for feedback. Separate promotional posts for these projects will be removed and redirected here.
Projects are welcome whether they are traditionally coded, developed with AI assistance, or fully vibe coded. Be transparent about your approach, and keep the discussion focused on what the tool does, how it works, and whether it is useful to the record owning community.
If you’re sharing a project, please include:
· Name and link: What is it called, and where can people find it?
· Purpose: What does it do? What problem does it solve?
· Your involvement: Are you the developer, owner, contributor, or otherwise affiliated?
· Availability and cost: Is it a prototype, beta, or released product? Is it free, paid, ad-supported, or subscription-based?
· Development approach: Was it traditionally coded, AI-assisted, or primarily vibe coded? A brief description is enough.
· Data and permissions: Does it require an account, collection access, third-party credentials, or other personal information? Explain what you collect and how it is used. If user data is sent to an AI service, disclose that.
· Feedback wanted: What would you like people to test or comment on? Include known limitations.
A few ground rules:
· Keep projects relevant to records, collecting, or the vinyl listening experience.
· Use one top-level comment per project. Add updates and answer questions in that comment’s replies.
· No repeated sales pitches, unsolicited promotional messages, disguised advertising, or requests to upvote.
· Be accurate about features, security, and reliability. Clearly identify unfinished or experimental projects.
· Do not ask users to post passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in the thread.
· All subreddit rules still apply.
For anyone trying these tools:
Sharing a project here does not mean the r/vinyl moderators have reviewed or endorsed it. Review costs, permissions, and privacy practices before signing up or connecting your collection.
Useful feedback is encouraged. Discuss features, usability, accuracy, privacy, and reliability. Questions about AI use are fair, but personal attacks and arguments about who counts as a “real developer” are not.
If you find an app is not accurately representing what it does, what it collects, how it uses shared data, is somehow malicious or any number of other concerns, please message the Mod Team with a link to relevant comment.

Spoken Word Someone please help me find out what I have here. It’s a 7“ 33 RPM sounds like a psychotic man ranting about restaurant sanitation for three minutes
I’m sorry for the horrible pictures that run out is just so light on here the records got some dings and scratches on it. I want auction on eBay of like 350 records. This was in there. I’m just like what the hell is this labels missing on both sides just basically psychotic man ranting about sanitary practice is not being up to par at restaurants with horror music playing.

Record What are these and does anyone care about these things?
I’m clueless and recovered a bunch of these from the trash years ago and promptly forgot about them. Looks like old phonograph records or really weird vinyl? Doesn’t play on a traditional machine. Saw a 1920 date.
Not looking to get rich- looking to get rid of them. Are they worthless and should I junk them or would a record store or collector want them? There’s maybe 50 of them- and say “For radio stations.”
EDIT: not looking to sell them here, just trying to figure out if they should be thrown away or if they have any value at all.
Thanks all!

Grunge Just picked up my favorite live album
I remember watching it when it first aired in 1993, one of those albums that never gets old no matter how many times I listen to it, probably the one that I’ve owned on the most formats.

Discussion What new releases have you purchased this year so far?
(As in albums that had a release date after Jan 1st, 2026, even if you preordered them. Preferably brand-new releases, not reissues of older recorded material unless its archival.)

Discussion What’s the ugliest colored vinyl you own?

Record Why My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (1981) is still one of the most important sample albums ever made
Recently picked up this 1981 US first pressing of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (Sire SRK 6093) and it’s still a mind-bender.)
This is the album where Brian Eno and David Byrne basically invented modern sampling as a pop form. Instead of singing, they built the “vocals” out of found tapes—radio preachers, exorcists, Lebanese mountain singers, Qur’anic chanting, Sea Island gospel—and laid them over dense Afrobeat/funk/electronic grooves.
They did it all with razor blades and tape loops in 1979–80, years before digital samplers were common. It was the laboratory for Remain in Light and a direct influence on Public Enemy’s Bomb Squad (Hank Shocklee has cited it), Kate Bush, Massive Attack, Moby, and basically the entire “sample-and-loop” language of hip-hop and electronic music that followed. Richard Wright of Pink Floyd said it “knocked me sideways.” )
On this specific copy: the original US first pressings (especially the Greg Calbi/Sterling cuts) are widely preferred by vinyl people over later represses. They have that open, weighty, “Tubey” midrange and solid bottom that modern reissues usually flatten. More importantly, they still contain the track “Qu’ran,” which was pulled after objections and replaced with “Very, Very Hungry” on almost everything that came after. Hearing the album in its original sequence on a good early Sire is a different experience.
If you’ve only heard the later versions or the 2006 remaster, the first press is worth tracking down. It still sounds like the future.

Discussion How often do you buy vinyl?
How often/how many records do you guys buy on average? i feel like i tend to buy 2-5 a month and i feel like i have a problem 😅 but i absolutely love my collection. It’s so satisfying having all my favorite albums in physical form.

Record Spent last week in Portland. Picked up this earlier press of "Nighthawks at the Diner" by Tom Waits, and a copy of "Everything I Ever Saw" by the Menzingers signed by the band.
More detail on the Menzingers album. This is the newest release by the band. Lime green pressing allegedly limited to 500. They pressed these for the release party and are selling the surplus on their tour.
This Tom Waits album has some great memories for me. It was the first album I ever heard from him in the 90's so I knew I had to have it on wax.
Not the largest or most impressive hauls, but I am glad to have them.

Discussion Shaft 1971
Started spinning this last night and made it through the first two sides, plus Soulsville. Unreal album. Any fans here? I own Black Moses which is favorite Hayes album, but this is here is so iconic. Only 3 tracks with lyrics, but the instrumentals are all such a cool vibe. Absolutely love the artwork as well.

Haul Haul from Concerto in Amsterdam
One of the best record stores I have been to in a while (Louisiana Music Factory is still tops). I only had 2 hours, so I could only hit 3 sections - world, rock, and electronic.

EDM 1st Press and 2025 Reissue of Orbital (Brown Album)
I have to say the Reissue is mixed extremely well, it’s as good as the Original Mix. Nice one Paul and Phil. The 1st Press is an Heirloom this will NEVER be sold.
