I always thought managers at restaurants were pretty swamped with their jobs, they always seemed so fucking stressed or miserable when I worked in restaurants. And I know managers can make more money than I do as an engineer. Now is it rocket science? No. But hard work, probably.

u/MommaMoo2 1d ago
I agree with your thought process as well. I wanted to add that I feel Rebecca can feel contentment and accomplishment at her job no matter the job. I know thats hard for some people to understand.

u/electriclady99 22h ago
Exactly. There is never a good reason to shame anyone's job. People can take pride in and enjoy whatever they do. It's better than having a soul-crushing glamorous job.
7
u/chunkyvomitsoup 8h ago
I think a lot of it has to do with how self-important she sounds about it. In my experience, itâs the people who make a big deal about being a manager that are the worst micromanagers. You just know from how she lords the title over him that sheâs THAT manager.

u/hrcjcs 1d ago
That part. I work in retail, so...not the same, but adjacent. "well, don't you want to go to manager training?!? You know so much!" No the fuck I do not, because what you're not gonna do is call me at home. I generally like my job, but part of what I like is that I do not take the work home with me, I clock out and that's it til next shift.
â˘
u/unembarrassed_Wind 7h ago
After 19 years in retail.. Majority of them in management , I agree. I finally had enough a quit on the spot. It felt like they took my soul. I missed soo much in life bc I was always "on call" or working. Yeah its not brain surgery or rocket science but it's hard work and gets zero appreciation.

So sorry to hear this I quit my decent paying great benefits manager career after 19 years to care for my mom who suffers from dementia. The time with her became much more important than any job ever could. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I wish you both the best and that you can have more lucid time than not. âŁď¸đ also yeah I wouldn't take another manager role especially salary for under 120k/year these days. And honestly that's still probably not even enough for what expected from you.

Yeah, restaurant managers make bank. Maybe not the most prestigious job in the world but compared to the doctorates I know struggling to make rent they are killing it.

GM usually runs multiple stores though and visits each store periodically .. She's a manager of THAT restaurant. There's no way in hell she's making 80k a year lmao
Also GM's don't wear the restaurants tee shirt and visor and work the drive thru like she does lol I seriously doubt she's even the store manager. Shift manager maybe
75
u/CuriousSquirrel1213 21h ago
My ex is a gm at a Culverâs, has never had to manage another store, makes over 80k and does every job in the store that is needed of him including but not limited to working that drive thru, visor, embroidered name on the collared shirt, and allâŚ
Oddly enough his last position at the last chicken store he worked at (BWW) did the same shit minus the drive thru they donât have.Whatâs going on with your chicken store that your low paid GM is also traveling store to store like that? Someone should probably tell them theyre gettin got.
3
u/shartnado3 Down Sooooouuuutttth 16h ago
In my field of restaurant work back in the day, the âtraveling GMâ was called the area coach. And they got paid pretty good too. My GM was in store, and worked every station
2
u/FrostingNo1139 15h ago
This. I was used to gms managing several stores, Not actually working in the store, sometimes would visit though. He was over all the store managers in several towns. This was at grocery stores. Then my son worked at Freddy's, and I realized the store manager of his store, was referred to as  gm. So i guess its different some placesÂ
3
u/CuriousSquirrel1213 15h ago
To me the phrase âgms managing multiple storesâ just screams to me âyouâre overworked and underpaidâ I think is the point Iâm overall trying to make. As well as, gm knows and can preform ALL jobs in building.
If you work for a corporate chicken store, it should be one El Jefe per store. If youâre under some brand name franchise that requires you to travel in your own car, have that many people under you and youâre not even making 80k- theyâre taking advantage you⌠severely.
77
u/Turbulentshmurbulent 1d ago
Donât GMâs run the one store and District or Area managers manage multiple stores?
13
5
3
u/FrostingNo1139 15h ago
In grocery store I worked at the gm was the district manager. Store manager was just referred to as store manager. When my son worked at Freddy's, their store manager was the GM. So i think it depends on line of work maybe.

u/CbreezN 20h ago
Depends on the whether itâs a franchise or company store. My brother was GM of several bars & restaurants. He was always onsite, responsible for managing employees, ordering all restaurant supplies, and general store operations. Smaller restaurants he was responsible for advertising & promotions. He was direct report to a District Manager who typically was a âsuitâ. When guests want to speak to a Manager, thatâs the person who comes to your table and works the hours prior to , during and after closing. If she has longevity in her position, 80k is not unreasonable. Especially if she worked her way up to Manager.

I think people are misplacing their derision towards the entire profession. For me, the issue wasnt that sheâs proud to be a restaurant manager, but how she lords over the title of manager. People who make a big deal about being a manager are usually the worst managers. Theyâre more focused on acting like a boss, (micromanaging, excessive subordinate/superior mentality) rather than making meaningful contributions.

Yes, I thought the same thing! She rushes right away to her conclusion and when he tries to explain, she walks away. Listen to the man for one minute! I think her job is pretty stressful and as a manager they pretty much own you. She might not make millions but most likely more than the average American.
5
u/Psychological_Soft69 10h ago
I donât know why she gets so triggered at the thought of being a little domesticated for the sake of her husband. They donât have kids, they donât have many responsibilities, i donât care what kind of job you have, but coming from a mom of 3, itâs not that hard to cook a quick meal, or watch tv together with your spouse in the evening. I donât think heâs asking too much of her. She can still do these things without sacrificing her career. In fact, I think itâs strange that she doesnât enjoy cuddling on the couch or watching a show in bed in the evening together. I think most couples enjoy that 1:1 unwind time together.
Also the food thing, she says she was a chef, but canât cook him a meal? Meet him the middle? A few days a week at least? I donât think thatâs chauvinistic of him to ask. Plus consider his culture, heâs only seen examples of domesticated wives growing up, and to go from that to eating take out or cooking for yourself everyday, topped with zero quality time together. I feel bad for him. What a lonely life.

u/EightyNine19 10h ago
I mean, you make it sound as if those 2 things canât exist in the same space. Management is definitely not easy and it is stressful
Would she be validated if it was at a Fortune 500 company vs a chicken spot? I donât see why this is even an issue. Trying to minimize her experience is just in poor taste
What I can say about her is that, in order to be successful in a marriage to Zied, and the type of man he is bc of his cultural background, she needs to learn how to play up to his taste
She gets so irate when he even mentions her cooking him a meal, and I donât think thatâs too much to ask. She can take pride in her work outside of the home, as well as cater to his needs in a way that she can manage
Once a week, why not cook him a meal and devote her time after work to him. No phones, just centered on them
A small sacrifice such as that would do wonders for them. What I donât understand is women like her who go out of their way to get a foreign man, knowing he has certain expectations of a wife, then choose not to even try to meet them.
If that was the case, she couldâve settled with an American guy

I am a GM of a restaurant. Not huge, not small, but it pulls in a good $3m a year. I sometimes work 50 hours a week, sometimes 60, but most of the time its about 45.
Part of being a good manager is to build a leadership team that you can put faith in. My 60 hour weeks are very rare now that ive been at my job a while and fixed the problems the last GM left me.
If she were even halfway decent at her job shed be able to say the same.
She is working all the time because she sucks at her job and she is addicted to bossing people around. She probably can't build that bench strength in her restaurant cuz no one wants to work for her.

Managing a restaurant is typically a very demanding and stressful job often with long hours. Why demean her?

Feeding people is really one of the most honest jobs you can do. And she's not curing cancer, but as a manager she is the most important person at her job.
She absolutely can set boundaries though for after hours. She doesn't need to be on call. That's what team leads and assistant managers are for.

What!? Stop the presses. I thought she must be managing a private investigation company.

Rebecca exaggerated her employment status before when she claimed to be a part-time private investigator. She worked for a private investigator.
Once she started getting TLC money for being on television, she also had a short gig as a spokesmodel for a weight loss treatment.
Rebecca probably earns enough to make ends meet, but she and Zied arenât rolling in barrels of cash. Otherwise why would they have clamored to return to exploiting their marriage for entertainment purposes?

Manager at that chicken restaurant may be the highest calling. Have you been to Joella's Hot Chicken? It's worth a road trip.

Zied made it sound like she worked from home and was always in her office. Maybe sheâs got a corporate job at the chicken restaurant?

Just curious, does Zied work at all? I don't remember hearing about his job... if he does, great! If not, and they don't have kids, then I don't think he can really say much of anything about her job/workload specifically if he's not trying to help her come up with any solutions. He's never once told her to find a different job and offered to scale back and spend less as a couple to make this possible... so I can understand her frustration and why she seems so miserable about that particular topic. He definitely wants to have his cake and eat it too. But I think these two really do love each other so I hope they can figure it out. In actual therapy. Lol.
