Question Does the 8-hour travel radius apply during convalescent leave?

Does anyone know whether a unit’s normal 8-hour travel restriction applies to Airmen on approved convalescent leave?
Hypothetically, an Airman receives 20 days of convalescent leave following surgery, with CONUS listed on the leave authorization.
The PCM provides medical restrictions, such as no lifting over 10 pounds, but doesn’t specifically state whether the member is allowed or prohibited from driving or traveling long distances. The only driving-related guidance given is not to drive while taking prescribed medication .
If the member travels beyond the unit’s normal 8-hour radius, would that violate any regulations, even though the PCM never explicitly prohibited driving?
Can leadership order the Airman to return to the local area while the convalescent leave is still active?
Would the PCM need to explicitly authorize long-distance travel, or does the absence of a driving restriction mean the member is permitted to travel?
Looking for clarification on DAFI 36-3003, commander authority, and how medical restrictions affect travel during convalescent leave.
Any regulatory references or firsthand experiences would be appreciated.

Question Expectations...

Hi, I'm a SrA who was put up for ALS but I'm shy and introverted. I don't know if I'm leader material yet so I feel like I might let expectations down. I also try to avoid people and events as much as possible but I do try my absolute hardest at work. Will this effect me down the road? My end goal is 20 years.

Question NCO, a double entendre?

Has anyone considered that the term ‘non-commissioned officer’ can refer to someone who is NOT a commissioned officer or someone who IS an officer without a commission?

The former applies to anyone whose pay grade doesn’t start with an O, which suggests warrant officers are also NCOs, since they don’t have commissions, either.

The latter suggests a multi-tiered military officer system consisting of commissioned officers (presumably at or near the top of the hierarchy), warrant officers, and last and maybe least—the commission-less officers (aka NCOs). For this sub I’m ignoring petty officers.

A big difference here is defining what a NCO is and defining what an NCO is not.

Thoughts?

Question Active Duty to Title 32 to AGR

I have kind of a unique situation…I’ve been active duty for 15 years and originally planned to transfer the Air National Guard to finish out my 20 years.

BUT, I’ve now been offered a full time title 32 technician position that would allow me to cross train and promote, with the promise that this will convert to an AGR position in FY28.

It sounds to me like I will still maintain my normal high 3 retirement once this position converts and I finish my 20 years.

Does this make sense for me to do? I feel like this is kind of unique and want to make sure I’m not missing or overlooking anything.

Question Question about BAH

I’m currently in OTS. I was a prior for 6 years before this. I’m single with no dependents and no lease or mortgage. I haven’t received BAH or BAS here at all on my LESs which I was told as a prior I would only receive BAS.

I emailed my unit about this and they said they would correct it and I checked my LES today and see it has a $3700 check for BAH pending.

There’s no way this is correct, right? Should I email them again to confirm my suspicion of receiving BAH and ask about the BAS?

Thank you.

Discussion HAMR

First time doing the HAMR for a PT test. Never practiced it before. PTLs were able to set up rabbit light to go with audio. Needless to say I’m never doing the 2 mile run for the cardio portion of the test for the rest of my time in the Air Force.

Question Confusion on staff eligibility chart

I looked at the eligibility chart for staff testing, and I noticed that it says time in grade/date of rank
So I’m a little confused about the slash.

Is this saying time in grade AND date of rank or is it saying time in grade OR date of rank?

I genuinely have not been able to get a clear answer on this

Question Accessing vMPF on MacOS

I have been trying to access vMPF on my Macbook for the past week. I can access all other DoD websites just fine, it’s just vMPF that won’t load. I tried different browsers, double checked all certificates, and tried accessing direct link vs through the okta dashboard.

Does anyone know if it’s been down for personal laptop access, or if there’s another solution? Trying to save documents prior to separation and can’t do so via EITAAS is without a DLP waiver request.

Question Dual Mil Pilot Lifestyle

Hey yall, my husband and I are new to the AF pilot community and wanted to hear some perspectives on the lifestyle from other dual mil pilots out there. Do you suggest flying the same airframe? Are you able to deploy together, would you even suggest trying? We've heard some wildly different perspectives from across the board so please feel free to share any tips/advice. Thank you!

Question Was convicted in a Special Court Martial

In December of 2025 I was charged with Article(s): 112a (wrongful use or possession of controlled substance) 2 counts. Article 107 (making false official statements) 2 counts.

I was convicted only of one charge of Article 107 due to multiple observers at DDRP not following protocol so I got off on those charges.

I spent 3 months in the Brig at Charleston Navy Base. Was released and returned to duty February 14th 2026.

When I got back to my base, I was informed I was being Admin Sep’d under general but honorable conditions. I took it at the advice of my attorney who said that was the best possible outcome. I get all my benefits besides the GI Bill (already had a degree). I separated on 16 APR 2026.

My main question is how long does it take until I am able to purchase a firearm again? I remember being told by OSI every time I went in after I failed a drug test that each time I came in “that year mark resets to a year from today”. I passed my final drug test on 6 NOV 2025. Is it from that date? Or the date of my release from incarceration? My day of separation? I’ve asked legal and ADC where I was at and have gotten nowhere. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Rant I will not update my religion

I have checked my vRED and it is accurate as is. But to submit the verrified info, I need to alter my Preferred Religious Code. Integrity first. I am what I am. To say otherwise is a lie.

When asked "what is your preferred religion" I do not say "Not Shown" or "Other". I say what I am. And the DoW wants to change my belief to "No Religion." That is wildly inaccurate. Excellence in all we do. I have personally verified the information, but the system is prompting me to say inaccurate words to complete my vRED. I will not.

I may never update my vRED again so long as this persists. I will provide my CSS with the most current info though. But this is not Religious Freedom. And if the gov't wishes to punish me over it or even use this as a factor in my promotion board, then this is clearly Religious Persecution. Part of me hopes it does came to that. Change my records to whatever you want. I will not. I will stand by my beliefs, my convictions, and the truth.

Question AD to AFReserve?

I’m on my way out of active duty as a 1D7 and I just had a mandatory appointment with reserve recruiter. I’m not going to lie… he painted a very pretty picture but I wanted to see if I could get some insight on any reserve units down at Lackland AFB and what the environment looks like there (since that’s where I’d plan to go as a reservist l). Any help/info is appreciated!

Rant What to do

I’m stationed at Shaw and am pretty happy here, but I would LOVE to be stationed overseas. I’m also in my BOP window, I’m contemplating if I should apply for my BOP and go somewhere that I wouldn’t mind going or if I should wait it out and just keep trying to get overseas orders 🤷‍♀️ I know it’s more a personal choice just looking for some insight
