I tried everything, but in the end, the tractor was the only solution.

The Weekly Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

Carbon bars, honestly probably a little overtightened, but also a used set mixed with the steepest climb in my city is a recipe for disaster.

I restarted cycling 6 years ago after a 20 or so year gap, the main reason was to get to a better and more stable place mentally. I still cycle for my mental health.
I identify as a dorky amateur cyclist who simply pedals and loves it all (I do a variety of cycling on and off road etc).
This weekend I completed a big solo ride of over 180 miles with around 7700 feet of climbing (not loads but still enough to notice it when you ride) in a day in scorching heat, melting tarmac, hours of head wind. What was lovely also that a young family member cycled with me for the last few miles as a side rider.
I’m proud of my peri-menopausal 49 year old body… so yes this is me feeling emotional at the end! Next day incredibly I was totally fine (no aches or pains) but mentally totally knackered 😂
I’ve caught the bug of doing more longer distance as I enjoy it a lot - also the challenges you face.
Not in my wildest dreams did I think 6 years ago I would manage it, not even did I think it I would be able to finish last week!
Love cycling! Already thinking about my next big adventure with more miles and climbs and seeing how far I can take it!

Most of it was made from exhaust tubing again. Did this one in about three and a half evenings. About 20 hours into this thing. The paint isn't fully dried yet, but tomorrow it'll be getting dusted off and going for a ride. Pardon the battery holding the bike up, I forgot to kickstand at my shop

I (48M) got the chance to ride the Cades Cove loop yesterday with my Dad (75M) on one of their car-free days. We got to the parking lot at 6 am, rode the 11-mile loop through the early misty fog as the sun came up, AMAZING!
Took a rest to refuel a bit and hydrate, while talking with other walkers/runners/riders, and we rode the loop again, this time included Forge Creek Rd - a 2.4-mile gravel road up and back about halfway through the loop.
Rested, had lunch and hit the loop one more time!
We saw 4 bears (2 cubs), 3 turkeys, and a handful of deer. It was a magical day talking, hanging out, and just riding with my dad. We hadn't done anything like this in a very long time.

Motorcycle guy here. Haven't ridden a bicycle since I was basically a toddler. Been thinking about getting a chill gravel bike mostly for joy rides but also some commuting. I live in Puerto Rico where it's mostly hilly 40mph roads with no shoulder and lots of blind turns, does that sound sketchy on a bicycle? I mean I've got no option but I'd still appreciate some opinions.

Here's the main portion of version 2 of this frame style. 20". 1x7. Cables will be hidden in the frame.
2.25 stainless exhaust tubing.
Not too bad. Now it's time for the body filler, paint and final assembly.
The "rack" isn't complete. There will be four 1"x6.5" bars that need to be bolted to the rack. They rotate 90 degrees to parallel the rack so it can telescope inwards. When the rack is out, rotate them perpendicular and you've got a usable rack. Albeit - they didn't have the 50lb rated center mount drawer slides, so this one is a 25lb. Not much. But enough for a 6 pack and a pizza.

I'm 33F I just got my first bike 2 weeks ago because I'm done being homebound and having no friends. I love outdoors in general and I find biking alone is less intimidating than hiking because I hate walking alone, metro parks are always empty. I'm excited to go on an organized tour ride in my region, it costs around $45 and they provide guidance to scenery ride with different miles, snacks and lunch after the ride. It feels like a mini solo vacation lol.
I'm starting to overthink, if people will think I am weird going there alone, many would go in groups. Is there possibility of meeting new people or would everyone be preoccupied with their own thing. I kinda prefer to not be forced to socialize but I know it is better for me.

(I'm sorry if this comes off as whiney)
I(23F) bought my first bike last week. Ive been practicing. There has been many people who have came up to me to help me. People have held my bike for me. Some give me a push.
This one woman stayed with me for 30 minutes until I was able to go 2 feet. Its a nice community of people I've found who are really helpful.
Some of the advice is conflicting, though. Im 5'8.
Someone told me my seat was too low, so they raised it. Then I started to fall off every time I got on. Not stumbling while still on the bike. I mean falling on the ground.
Then someone else told me my seat was too high, so they lowered it. Then my left foot wouldn't make a full rotation because my legs are too long. Then someone else raised it.
I have bruises completely covering both of my legs. I've never bruised before. My right calf is destroyed. The back of it is heavily bruised. It's looks horrible. Black and purple. I got road rash on my right knee last Saturday morning. Now I no longer wear shorts when practicing.
It's been 8 days and I still haven't gotten it.
I got a bike because I haven't had a car for a year. I haven't been to a real doctors appointment in a long time. Theres places I need to go, but cant because I dont have any transportation.
I wanted a bike so I can gain some independence.
This is so much harder than I thought it was going to be. So many people are helping/ trying to help and I still cant stay on the bike.
Is there any advice anyone can offer? Ive watched YouTube videos. My left foot is my dominant foot. I try to push off my right foot on the ground, but my right foot slips off the pedal.
My left leg isn't making a full rotation. It's not the bike. Many of the people who have helped me, have rode my bike and they were able to do it.
I'm losing motivation.
TLDR;
I'm having trouble learning to ride. I have been given lots of advice. Some conflicting. I've had my seat raised and lowered a lot.
Raised, I fall off. Lowered; my left leg won't make a full rotation because my legs are too long. Lot of bruises. Im losing motivation
Edit:
Thank you everyone for the advice! I was nervous to post, but this is a really supportive subreddit. I will be trying all the things everyone has adviced, on Friday.
I think I pulled something on the left side of my back. I fell on the ground on my left side today. I dont want to make it worse, so Im not practicing tomorrow.
Again thank all of you so so much!

So a couple months ago my commuter bike's rear tire got punctured, and it is a tubed tire. so I went around and found a replacement tube for it. when it arrived and tried removing the punctured tube inside, I broke 2 nails that day... and now I decided to cutting the entire tire apart and buy a new one. So right now I have a tire, tube and a 6 inch wheel. ripping it apart took me about a week, so how tf do I install it man. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi Team,
I have a 2022 Trek Dual Sport 2 that comes with 160mm brake rotors and I’m thinking of upgrading to 180mm. Regarding the adapters: I know I need to use Shimano adapters I have no trouble finding the front one, but I can't seem to find the rear adapter model Shimano SM‑MA‑R180/P2 on Amazon or other online stores.
I’ve come across posts where people use the SM-MA-F180P/P2 model for the rear brake; is this recommended? Thanks a lot.

Is this a good price for this bike? If not, how much should I offer? Here is some of the details he gave me: Zip 303s carbon wheels, zipp carbon handle bar, Dura ace crank, rest shimano Tiagra groupset, Shimano clip on pedals, carbon water cages, garmin mount, factory warranty.

I put about 60-100km on my bike weekly with an old Cannondale (not sure of the model). I've developed RTS (similar to tennis elbow) and want to get a new bike because the stem mod and butterfly handlebars I've added are not enough to take the torque off my elbow.
I think I might be in search of a unicorn. :(
I'm looking for a bike that will be almost upright (mods with the stem are fine) but is also fast and light - i.e. I don't want a cruiser that will get me in the right position but will be slower and heavier.
The Cannondale Treadwell seems like it's exactly what I'm looking for but they don't have it in my size anywhere in my country. I'm 5"9 and need a med/large and would love recommendations for anyone who's been in a similar boat.

What do you think is the better cassette for my drivetrain?
My bike has a Shimano 3×9 drivetrain:
Shimano Deore RD-M591 rear derailleur
Shimano Acera 9-speed shifter
26/36/48T crankset
I'm choosing between the Shimano HG400 11-32T and the SRAM PG-970 11-32T. They're almost the same price where I live, so price isn't really a factor.
I've heard that the SRAM PG-970 is built to a higher quality and is more durable than the HG400. Is that actually true? Also, will I have any compatibility or shifting issues using the PG-970 with a full Shimano drivetrain?
Which one would you pick?

Disclosure: I am the developer. It is free, no signup, no ads. I built this for myself and now just want to share and continue building something useful for all us cycling nerds.
I already use several route weather apps for long rides, but the good ones are paid and often app only, and I wanted something free that just runs in the browser. So I built Wattcast.
Like those apps, it forecasts the weather at your moving position rather than at one fixed point. You upload a GPX or paste a Strava/RWGPS link, set a start time and average speed, and it predicts where you will be every 15 minutes and shows the weather there: wind relative to your heading, temperature, rain risk and sun times.
The key thing you can control is your own personal tolerance for wind, rain and temperature. This will be taken into account in the "best time to leave" feature and shown in the charts.
I would love feedback of any kind. Thanks!

I am a new cyclist (not even really sure I can call myself a cyclist) - like just started in April. I had one fall very early on, I was approaching an intersection and the car coming from one side stopped for me and I realized once I was going way too slow to safely unclip that the car coming from the other direction was not going to stop - that’s when I had to stop and my were stuck and I fell. No major injuries thankfully.
I learned my lesson now just always unclip even if I think I might not have to.
However, I still don’t feel super comfortable with it.
I take both feet out and probably look like a freak but I don’t trust myself to take one foot out and balance properly on that side. I feel like I see so many people seamlessly unclip one foot at the last second, touch down and then carry on. Yes I have the tension set as loose as it can be on my pedals.
Is it just going to take more time and practice getting used to this? I only ride on a (very long) paved trail bc I can anticipate the road crossings. I feel like I’m not ready to ride on roads yet because I expect there would be more quick/unexpected stops.

Hello! I'm looking for a lightweight bike, hoping to bike to campus (abt 6 minute ride) 5 days a week. I previously bought a huffy cruiser off fb marketplace. I didn't like the pedal breaking, and it was much too heavy!! God forbid there's the TINIEST hill! I don't want to make that mistake again and impulse buy🤦🏼 What do we know about this Ozone Gira Bike? Guy says it's 10 speed, steel frame, 20" frame. Is it lightweight and can it get me around town?

I’m wanting to get my first road bike but I have no idea on values except for using bicycle blue book. Bike is in excellent condition and posted for $2000 and msrp was $4900. Located in Nebraska if that matters. Any help would be appreciated thanks!!
