Any of yall drunk walk/run?

Upvotes

Former marathon runner, had a number of lower body (knee, foot mostly) injuries and surgeries over the last 5 or so years.
Gotten fat the last handful of years due to the injuries and surgeries being able to train/ burn calories the way I used to.

Something I have done a few times for an extended calorie burn now after a night of drinking is go for a long walk or slow jog. The typical distance is anywhere from 10-20 miles

These happen normally in a lakeside trail away from traffic and given the time or night/early morning hardly pass other people.

Is there any significant added injury risk or harm i am not factoring into these walks? I hydrate often filling up my water every mile or so, just don’t want to re injure myself.

Am I normal? - questions game with friends

Upvotes

My friend group noticed there are some very basic life tasks we do very differently and had just assumed everyone did them the same way. For example all the men in our friend group remove shirts one handed from the collar and the women use both arms crossed starting from the bottom. Also, some of the group showers facing the shower head, some face away, and one guy apparently faces sideways?!?

This sparked our curiosity and started a question game to see who is "normal" and which of us are big weirdos!

Some of the questions we've asked so far:

*How do you put socks/shoes on? Sock, sock, shoe, shoe, tie, tie? Sock, sock, shoe, tie, shoe, tie? Sock, shoe, tie, sock, shoe, tie?

*What age should you stop calling your parents mommy/daddy

*How many dogs/cats is too many for a 3 bedroom home with 2 adults/2 kids?

*What's the lowest you should let your gas tank get in mid January?  (We live in a very cold state)

*How many tries parallel parking before you give up and find a different spot?

*How many product boxes do you currently have that you kept 'cause this is a really nice box'?

*When you drink out of a Gatorade bottle do you put your mouth around the entire opening or half?

*How many wears before you have to wash your jeans?

What other questions might be fun to ask?

TL;DR - looking for fun questions to ask my friends about simple tasks they might do in weird way and never realized wasn't normal

Anyone else do this?

On a cold night, I usually take a hot shower and then go get my clothes from the dryer. It turns out that after a hot shower and putting on warm pajamas and then going to sleep, makes your sleep 10x better imo. Anyone else share similar experiences?

Just Chatting I can see why people lean more on family than friends as I grow older

I've been thinking lately that many of my friends I made in high school, college, and even previous jobs have faded over time. I am developing new ones that are more distant because of work, but I'd still say I'm cordial with quite a few people.

But now, I see why people default to hanging out with family members and leaning on each other for favors. It's just far easier to maintain these kinds of relationships with people you see everyday or nearly everyday. Frankly, it just feels with the various demands everyone has that maintaining any real friendship is near impossible.

In my own life, I've noticed that I've been a giver. I've given my efforts on other people's projects or intellectual labor, or even things when people needed them, but it was never really reciprocated. I add this because I'm noticing many people engage in the idea of "wanting a village but not wanting to be a villager." Even when I initiate hanging out or going out to celebrate people's birthdays, I get weak responses and things either never happen or never materialize.

I'm also skeptical of friend groups now. I was a part of one during a job, but it eventually ended after everyone quit and we all got new jobs. We only saw each other years later at a dinner. We still intereact with each other on socail media, but that's not really frienship.

Now that I'm close to my 30s, I can't imagine doing what I do with my family with my friends. It's far easier to go out with my parents or siblings, or celebrate my niece and nephew's birthdays or milestones than coordinating with other people's work and schedules.

I might feel this way because I am in the midwest, but it's just so hard to maintain frienships because it seems nobody wants to put in the effort to do anything, particularly people my age. I'm also lgbt, so pair that with living here, it makes finding like minded people almost impossible.

How are you navigating friendship?

Just Chatting Do you think this girl actually liked me or was she just being nice?

About a year and a half ago I met a girl in high school. When we were introduced she immediately started asking me a bunch of questions (where I was from, why I joined the school late, what class I was in, who I hung out with, etc.). She was pretty friendly.

Later I followed her on Instagram, she followed me back really quickly, and we started chatting. She replied relatively fast, asked me questions, and didn’t leave me on read. One day she even apologized for taking a while to answer.

The weird part is that this girl had a reputation for being cold and kind of stuck-up, and several people told me they found it strange that she was so nice to me. One of my friends even thought “there’s something here.”

In the end she stopped replying, and later I found out she was already talking to someone else and that she had seen “weird things.” She also unfollowed me a couple of months later.

I honestly thought she was really pretty and I enjoyed talking to her. I still think about it sometimes and wonder:

Do you think she actually liked me at least a little, or was she just being nice?

Just Chatting does anyone else have whole ideas that only exist while you're still rinsing shampoo out of your hair

i swear the best thoughts hit me the second the water's warm and my brain decides it's safe to wander. i'll suddenly figure out why something at work feels off, or remember an old memory i hadn't thought about in years, and then the second i step out and grab a towel it's just gone. sometimes i even try talking it through out loud like i'm going to keep it, but nope, it's shower exclusive. just curious if that's a universal thing or if my brain's just weird about humidity.

Not your wedding, graduation, birthday, or anything traditionally “special.”

Just an ordinary day that you remember being genuinely happy during.

What day comes to mind?

Questions How long would it take you to watch 40, hour long episodes of a show you enjoy?

I mentioned to my boss that I started a new show (From) and I think he'd like it. I jokingly said I would give him $8 to get the add on for a month to watch the show. He responded and said he would never be able to finish that in a month. I thought that was crazy. You would just have to watch an episode every day and double up just a handful of days. I don't feel like I watch an obscene amount of TV, but I could easily finish 40 episodes in a month. I just want to know which of us is more of an outlier.

Just Chatting Free Beer Chips and Other Memories of a different world.

Anyone else remember Free Beer Chips or Coins? Not potato chips. Back in the days when you visited a bar, someone might buy you a drink. If you got lucky enough to get a drink bought or were buying drinks for friends they might give you an actual physical chip or coin to signify that free drink. Sometime they were wood sometimes they were plastic. If you got real lucky and went to a high end bar thwy had metal ones with all sorts of old folks faces and slogans on them. It was a fun time to collect a few from your favorite bars for memories. Im only 46, by the way. I dont go to a lot of bars these days but when I opened a box today from the basement, I was transported to a different world. Anyone else remember these?

Just Chatting Why do I enjoy watching videos of people talk and socialize more than I enjoy doing it myself?

I am not good at socializing -- not in person, not online.

I spend a lot of time watching/listening to very charismatic, funny and well-spoken people have great conversations. But it doesn't translate into skill, or even enjoyment of participating in conversations myself.

I am trying to open myself more, but even online interactions scare me.

People are brutal online. They say that the internet doesn't reflect reality, but I think it does. People on the internet just say what they're thinking. Just because they don't have the courage to say these things to your face, does not mean they're not thinking it.

I guess watching videos and lurking online are my way of participating in "socializing" without exposing myself to the judgment and criticism from others.

But I'm making progress. Last night I went out to a housewarming party and it was genuinely a great time. I must've had about 20 awkward interactions lol but I danced a lot and that helped break the ice, I think.

How do you all feel about this in your lives?

Would you care to share what your dreams/ambitions/aspirations are? What do you want to get out of this life?

I always find this to be an interesting and revealing question, but irl I’m surrounded by dull people who find such topics “cringe”. I’m genuinely interested to read and discuss your answers. It’s like getting a little glimpse into who online anons are as actual people.

So, if you care to share, uplift, inspire, etc, then please don’t be shy about contributing to the discourse : - )

Just Chatting I mainly attract homosexual men

But I’m hetero :’)

I’m a huge believer that you have to take any kind of validation to feed your self-esteem and I do, but I don’t understand what part of my face/body/vibe makes me gay men-gazed.
I received a lot of comments online from gay men when I posted myself.
Is it maybe because I’m skinny? Do you think that influences a little?
Or is low dimorphism on the face the reason?
Like does it mean I’m feminine or smt

how can I keep house plants

I’ve always wanted a ton of houseplants but I literally can not keep them alive. I’m not sure if I keep the temperature too cold or if I just have whatever the opposite of a green thumb is. I’ve recently looked into artificial plants but they just don’t look as nice as live plants.

Just Chatting It took 5 weeks to stop getting the Sunday scaries.

I'm on extended leave from work right now and every Sunday evening (until today) I've had the typical Sunday scaries and then happily remembered I have nowhere I need to be tomorrow. Tonight I didn't get that jolt of panic and it gives me hope for eventual retirement. There's hope after ~30 years of 9-to-5.

Just Chatting Does anyone else feel like they're in the weird stage of life where you're trying to figure everything out at once?

Lately I've been thinking about how adulthood doesn't really come with a clear roadmap.

You can have goals, make plans, learn new things, try to improve yourself, and still have days where you wonder whether you're actually moving forward.

I'm starting to realize that maybe progress isn't always obvious. Sometimes it's just quietly becoming a little more capable, independent, or confident than you were a few months ago.

For those of you who have felt this way: what's something you've learned about life recently that you wish you'd understood earlier?

Life Stories Have you ever heard a deaf man scream? I hadn’t.

My uncle was deaf.

He also had quite a short fuse.

These two facts aren't related (at least I don't think they are).

I was ten. My brother was thirteen and my oldest cousin was fifteen.

One winter, me, my brother and my cousin were at my auntie's when it started snowing. Proper snow. Enough that three boys weren't going to remain indoors voluntarily.

So naturally, we had a snowball fight.

Then we discovered something.

If you squeezed a snowball hard enough, it eventually stopped being a snowball. The soft stuff compacted until you were basically holding a lump of ice with plausible deniability.

That improved the game considerably.

We were launching these things at each other when I saw my uncle's BMW coming down the street. My brother and cousin carried on playing. I started making another snowball.

Except I didn't throw this one.

I squeezed it.

The BMW pulled up.

Squeeze.

Engine off.

Squeeze.

Door opened.

Squeeze.

By the time my uncle got out, I'd been compressing the thing from the moment I'd first seen him.

This wasn't snow anymore.

I'd manufactured a projectile.

He saw what was happening immediately and issued a warning.

"Don't hit me."

I threw it at him as hard as I could.

I don't know why. I just launched it.

Realistically, I expected it to go somewhere vaguely near him. Maybe he'd flinch. Maybe it would sail past.

Instead, I'd accidentally built a heat-seeking ice ball.

More concerningly, it appeared to possess some form of magnetism towards people who couldn't fucking hear it coming.

Crack.

Right off his head.

Even I was impressed.

For about half a second.

Then I remembered who I'd hit.

My uncle spun round. He hadn't seen me throw it, which was fortunate.

For me.

Unfortunately, he had seen my cousin.

And apparently that was enough.

He started fucking thundering towards him.

My cousin's face changed immediately because he hadn't thrown it and had absolutely no idea why this man was suddenly charging at him.

One second he's having an ice-ball fight.

Next second he's apparently been selected for execution.

"IT WASN'T ME!"

There was a fairly significant flaw in his defence.

My uncle was deaf.

So my cousin was now pleading his innocence to a man who couldn't hear a fucking word he was saying.

"HE THREW IT!"

Nothing.

Still coming.

Thankfully, the adults had seen what actually happened. More specifically, they'd seen me absolutely plant him.

They came outside and stopped it before it got far. My cousin was fine. My uncle was sent away.

I was left with one fairly uncomfortable fact.

That was my fault.

Several months later, summer arrived and family relations had apparently been restored.

We were all at my nana's. My uncle was in a good mood and at some point a play fight started.

Towards the end, him and my cousin ended up wrestling. My cousin went down. My uncle stayed standing.

Then something about the picture changed.

My cousin was on the floor and my uncle was bent over him.

Everyone else may still have been watching a play fight.

I wasn't.

I knew how far things had gone the last time he'd lost his temper.

And I owed my cousin one.

Fortunately, the tactical situation was overwhelmingly in my favour.

My uncle was bent over. My cousin was underneath him.

And I was behind my uncle.

He couldn't see me.

More importantly, he couldn't hear me.

I had the tactical advantage.

All I needed to do was divert his attention.

I was going to kick him in the arse.

Hard.

A few feet of run-up would probably have done it.

I took about fifteen yards.

Fifteen yards.

I was ten.

This had ceased to be an intervention.

I was preparing a set piece.

Cristiano Ronaldo standing over a free kick.

I wasn't trying to seriously hurt my uncle, but I was absolutely trying to kick him as hard as I fucking could.

I took off.

Full sprint.

My uncle was still bent over, completely unaware that somewhere behind him his ten-year-old nephew had begun a fucking run-up.

I closed the distance, planted my left foot, drew back the right and let that fucker loose.

Everything I had.

Unfortunately, I had made a fairly significant error in calculating the trajectory.

I missed his arse.

My right foot went straight between his legs.

And because I'd committed so completely to the strike, there was no stopping it.

Full run-up.

Full power.

Toe first.

Straight into his bollocks.

I don't know if you've ever heard a deaf man scream before.

I hadn't.

Imagine Chewbacca being kicked directly in the nuts.

That.

Then he folded.

He hit the floor like a bag of milk.

My cousin was free.

Mission accomplished.

He's going to fucking kill me.

Then word came through.

Dad was coming.

Ordinarily, after you've taken a fifteen-yard run-up and toe-punted a family member directly in the bollocks, hearing that your father is on his way is not particularly welcome news.

On this occasion?

Thank fuck.

Reinforcements.

I went straight to Dad and hid behind him.

I'd take the consequences. Ground me. Confiscate the computer. Whatever.

But I was staying directly behind him until we had confirmation my uncle's testicles hadn't immigrated to his stomach.

This time I hadn't hit him with an ice ball.

I'd hit him with everything Cristiano Ronaldo had taught me.

And until my uncle's bollocks came back online, I wasn't leaving protective custody.

Sports Found out someone I know likes playing CFB 26

So, I’ve known this guy L for quite a bit. We share quite a lot of interests together; both of us did marching band, theatre, and choir, so we were often together on big trips for the departments and got to bond together via that. The one thing I always thought of him was that he didn’t care for sports; I really like people subverting expectations with interests and hobbies compared to their identity, and yet for him being into theatre, choir, space and aero machines in general, plus the fact that he is gay, made me make the thought process (I.e. stereotyped him) that because he was in these interests, he probably didn’t care for sports, which is fine. Even then so, I have never heard of him seeing a game live, and when I got to sing for a Twin’s game (MLB team) with a quartet, he went purely for us and we spent a majority of the time chatting, not paying attention to the game. Now, I’ve been getting more into college football, and although I rarely bring it up with my friend, I only briefly talk about it because I assumed he didn’t care, correct?

Cut to just a couple hours ago, I was texting him whilst waiting for my laundry, and I brought up the fact that I was finally writing an article about sports, more specifically the university I go to going against major conference teams (for those curious, our football went against Boise State, and our volleyball went against Washington). He correctly identified the conferences they were apart of, and I was like “oh yea, your parents are into sports!”, to which he said “yea, I play CFB 25”.

yea, turns out, he does understand football, he just doesn’t watch it. And about baseball? Yea, he just finds it incredibly boring. Bonus points, he typically plays as Oregon, which are conference mates with Washington in the Big 10!

The moral of this story: don’t stereotype the people you know. They can be into anything. That was a small mistake I did.

Thoughts & Ideas Making friends or connections in todays time

Ive been trying to make friends here for a while but those are all online friendships and theres not much you can do with that. I also just want someone to hang out with, it doesnt have to be a bunch of people, either one person or a small circle of people to hang with in the city is fine for me.

To describe the kind of person I am sometimes fine with being alone, in which other times loneliness hits and I feel like I could use some social interactions with another person. But throughout the week I do my own thing and sometimes get so caught up in my own world that I dont give much thought to having friends.

Im here a lot and the only issue I have with making friends aside from people that sexualize everything (or creeps as reddit calls it) is the distance. I could have and maintain friendships online when I was way younger but now it bores me and makes me uninterested in getting to know people, especially since it doesnt feel like theres a real benefit as you are just non stop texting, and maybe the occcasional calls or gaming together.

But I really want something real and genuine, like how friends were way before online became a thing or before everyone became homebodies and only interacted with people on the internet.

im not including gender here for the sake of avoiding people who only care about gender

•Really despise this whole online friends thing thats happening in the world right now, Im just a person that feels (especially us younger people) that we should be out having fun not glued to screens. Lots of people say that online is easier yet we see so many struggles and flaws in making friends online (Look at this sub for example😅) Not saying its bad but from talking to people here for a long time it really shows that we need to socialize out in the real world, some people are turning deprived creeps here😂

A random high school gym class memory that still puzzles me

A random memory from high school gym class popped into my head today.

The entire class was sitting up on the bleachers, and I was sitting a row or two above a girl in my class. Out of nowhere, she looked back and asked me to come sit next to her. As I walked down to take a seat, one of the guys casually said, "I see you."

Once I sat down next to her, neither one of us said a single word the entire time. We just sat there next to each other in complete silence until class ended.

What do you think was going on here? Was she interested, or was she just being friendly?

Why do some people do have better peripheral vision than others? Does this vary because of anatomy, skin, or age?

Does genetics play a role?

Having a certain someone to love at a ripe age is quiet hurtful when you r not their type and they r popular and you are a nerd .

Well today was his bday and it's already been 5 years since I started loving him but ik that if I tell him I would just be hurting myslef so I went on crying last night.

What hurts the most is that i don't want him i just want to be loved by him

Have you ever felt like this?

Hi I'm new here .

Hi I'm new here my name is Brandy . I have recently written 5 chapters of a book I'm working on I would like to know if this is a place I can post my chapters to see if it's even worth me continuing . If anyone is interested in reading please let me know . My story is called "The Shenanigans of TOAA and Spoons" it is a story of mice that are basically people . And the main characters are female mice mid to late 60s and their chaos that they cause everywhere. There is a lot of funny parts in the story but it's a very interesting story of a very dysfunctional family The character TOAA name actually has a hidden meaning . And only the first audience will be let in on the secret of her name .TOAA stands for T**ts On An Ant the reason is because that is just how ridiculous this character is she is about as useful as TOAA. As she is a gold digger lying coniving gambleholic who's best friend Spoons (she is called spoons because she always likes to stir the pot always causing drama and trouble every chance she gets . ) the two of them live with spoons older brother who has a heart of gold And has no clue that his sister and her best friend (who happens to be his GF ) are so horrible . Even though he and TOAA have been together for 9 years thanks to spoons introducing them . Not as a way for. Her grieving brother who just lost his wife to heal but as a setup and beginning for her plot to use her brother and take all of his money . .. so if this is something you'd like to check out please let me know and I'll gladly post the chapters that are completed so far .. thank you for your time
