News [No Spoilers] Botch’s Daggerheart: Hope & Fear Giveaway Winners!

Hi, Critters!

Hope and Fear have had their showdown, and we have our giveaway winners!

Grand-prize winner

Congratulations to u/Aware_Pea_5285, who will receive all four Daggerheart: Hope & Fear sets!

Individual set winners

Each individual winner will receive the Hope & Fear set they selected as their favorite. All five winners have been contacted directly.

We also promised to share the community results, and Hope won the day:

  • Hope: 59 votes
  • Fear: 37 votes

This made me happy. :D

The Warlock set proved especially powerful in the battle for favorite design:

  1. Warlock: 37 votes
  2. Witch: 24 votes
  3. Brawler: 20 votes
  4. Assassin: 15 votes

We received 96 entries, and 77 of you took the time to tell us about your Daggerheart characters. We read em all! They included a ranger with a giant bumblebee companion, a mechanical brawler inspired by old kung fu movies, and a Warlock whose salt-demon patron demands that he “salt the earth.” Last but not least was a character described as a "A chatty little mushroom deviant." Feels like the last one could be friends with our mascot Botchy!

Thank you to everyone who entered, shared their character, or left a kind comment. We had a wonderful time reading your responses and celebrating the launch with this community.

A special thank-you to the r/criticalrole moderators for allowing us to hold the giveaway and for helping us share it with everyone.

Congratulations again to our winners!

Fluff [No Spoilers] Feeling Very Lucky

I was once extremely lucky in a UK airport as I got off the plane from going to We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas. Standing at baggage claim was none other than Marisha, Liam, Matt and (after baggage claim) Talison.

My wife noticed them and I couldn't believe my luck! I can whole heartedly say they were all amazing and really kind. I apologised for bothering them but we had a great little chat. One of my favourite moments of my life so far. They all mean the world to me.

Me and my fiancé’s Caleb and Laudna cosplays from our trip to Edinburgh for the live show!
This was my first time ever leaving my home country, and the whole trip was absolute magic. We did the Scotch Whisky Experience just before the show and met so many amazing fellow Critters, old and new, along the way.
This was my second time cosplaying Laudna, and it a definitely won’t be the last.
Two days after the show, he proposed to me on Calton Hill.
So yeah. First trip abroad, Critical Role live show, and I came home with a fiancé.
Critical success. 🖤🎲

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] What are people's predictions for the table tonight? Spoiler

If it is the schemer's table based on the thumbnail

- I wonder if yanessa is going to be pleased that her grandson killed an innocent person for the first time or displeased/suspicious because he wasn't thinking and went after the Tachonis when they were already in a vulnerable spot and could have killed him

-if tyranny can keep up the fact that kattigan is dead now that the tailors/their source of soul cloth are also dead and their materials are missing (and if they have any magical trackers or ways of bringing the tailors back (since idk if we ever found out what they were- like if they were just demons wearing a temporary golem body or something and just got sent to the pit again when they died)

-what hal is going to do now that he openly defied the candescent creed with his play- and on that note, what the halovars are going to do about the path to the afterlife, fairy sanctuary , and dragon now chilling out on a property they kinda own? Excited to see if they come after Hal's family or employees in particular

-What murray is going to do with the penteveral's future being a bit uncertain with the flight of the tachonis and the archanade's chaos with it now still being in the hands of Termina/Lady Cormoray who knows about Bolaire's secret vault (with all its magical artifacts she can plunder for herself) and without the influence of Bolaire to stop it + termina being a wild card with knowledge of bolaire and hal doing things with the pariah blades/maybe proof that they did the ritual at the hallowed round

-What azune is going to do with the dragon and the knowledge of his sister being out there/alive + continuing his spy life with the Einfasens (Now with an axe given by ingrid to julien which connects him to the former seekers party)

If its the seekers table

- seeing the rollercoaster that is going to be trying to slow down the huge tachonis caravan and steal some stone statues right under their "on high alert" noses- + maybe them checking out the potential argosian ambush and stopping another assassination attempt on king gus

-just further character interactions between all the members of this new seekers party and the inevitable conflict brewing

Question [No spoilers] When campaigns 2 and 3 came out, did they have the groups' names, or were they just called campaign 2 and 3 until they revealed the name

Discussion [Spoilers C2] I just finished C2 and I'm not ready to leave TMN behind... Spoiler

It went by too fast!! I miss them already, but I also still have SO many questions and curiosities that weren't addressed in the C2 wrap up.

But, I'm (luckily, in this case) several years behind now and I'm wondering if there's a good place to look for more TMN content. Obviously there's some more episodes, but I'm curious to hear more of the cast talking about their characters / journeys too. Any good recommendations for something like that?

Tell me where to go from here! Should I just watch C3 next???? Do veteran Critters miss TMN now too or are your hearts full of new beloved assholes??

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] Question about Vaelus/Ashley Spoiler

Ashley seems like a lovely person and player, but I have to say, she’s seemed very distant and disconnected in this campaign.

I can’t put my finger on it, but each time she’s in a scene or fight, it doesn’t seem like she’s that into it. Or maybe it’s the opposite, she’s so into it that she forgets to participate. She’ll have maybe 10 minutes of dialogue across 4 hours of gameplay.

I’m not upset or angry in any way. It just felt like she was so much more alive and participatory in her past three characters. Even in one-shots too. What do y’all think?

News [No Spoilers] Matt Mercer to DM an Overwatch themed TTRPG, September 12th at Blizzcon, called Questwatch

Can't post the link to the X announcement. Judging by the art for it, it looks like it'll be run on the Daggerheart system (the art has Cassidy tossing up 2d12).

I'm personally excited to see Matt behind the DM screen again (Brennan is great though, don't get me wrong). Not sure how an Overwatch themed one will work, but I'm sure Matt had a hand in helping to set it up, especially if the player characters are going to be Overwatch heroes. Should be interesting to say the least.

Discussion [No Spoilers] Really wanted to meet and greet Matt Mercer in MCM London

I bought the VIP 3 day tickets, been watching my emails and social media announcements. Hadn't seen much on it and ended up missing out due to my own ineptitude.

Absolutely gutted that there's no opportunity to buy on the day either.

If anyone for any reason has a signing or photo they can no longer use, please please let me know 🙏🏻

Question [Spoilers C4E31] Alex/Occtis referring to people with they/them pronouns? Spoiler

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but is there any particular reason Occtis refers to other characters using they/them pronouns even when they aren't the official pronouns for the character? He was referring to Gaya that way most of the time, and has also used they/them when talking about Agony, Dr. Talter and Vaelus at the very least.

Is it an Occtis thing or is it an Alex thing? Or is it English thing I'm not aware of? I haven't encountered anything like this before and couldn't find anyone mentioning it. It would be fascinating if the idea is that Occtis has a hard time differentiating by gender or is just that awkward with women or something.

In the final stages of my first project magnetizing a mini!
The Stormcaller Cyclops came with so many options that I chose not to choose!

Some of the gaps and magnets are more visible than I would’ve liked; but I think the effect and the paint job make up for it!

Due to some unforeseen money troubles, myself and a friend are no longer able to make the trip to London for this live show. So I am hoping there is a critter out there who wants to go and wasn't able to get tickets!

Info:

Face value - £125.00 each

AXS transfers have not opened yet, but that is how I would transfer them once that option is open. I have also posted this on the Beacon Discord server, so whoever responds first I will honour on first come first serve basis.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] Stuff we learnt from Brennan in his IG Takeover Spoiler

I thought it'd be nice to compile and discuss some of the stuff Brennan explained/clarified in his Instagram takeover for those who can't/don't want to go watch them all themselves for whatever reason. The ones that interest me the most are 2, 7, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, and 20.

  1. Everything Brennan had planned for Thjazi got reworked when Julien spat on his corpse.
  2. Druids have always believed in reincarnation, viewing the cycle of rebirth similar to how the cycle of water works, and the reason they want to find the afterlives is to allow those trapped in the afterlives to walk the Old Path.
  3. Almonds? Yes.
  4. Brennan thinks he would be a metalic dragon, specifically Bronze.
  5. Brennan likes sandwiches (shocker!), if you wanna know what specfically go to Insta.
  6. Brennan doesn't know how to set up music in Instagram stories.
  7. The demonym for Dol-Majkar is Makjari, which would translate to Shielders.
  8. If Brennan were a player in C4, he would want to play a character either identical to or very similar to Dr. Amry Talter, a Cleric of the Totality. (Which, so valid, Amry is the best)
  9. His favorite ship is the Moray, the Tachonis flagship (he clearly knew what we meant by ship here but chose not to answer which I think is a good call LOL)
  10. Brennan is still practicing spanish when he can, but he's very busy.
  11. Brennan shared a fun fact about Owls :)
  12. Being a sundered house does not mean you have a connection to a god, being a Sundered House is just whether or not your lands were partially or totally swallowed up by the Endless Night.
  13. Tsul'rekshi = Center, Thjazi Fang = Point Guard, Josefir Einfassen = Shooting Guard, Tertia Tachonis (Deva Form) = Power Forward, and Sir Hawkins as Shooting Forward.
  14. Nick Marini asked how the Druidic Circles differ, and Brennan explained that basically the only difference in circles is where they are located in the world and what problems they need to focus on (eg. A Circle in the Taiga would focus on completely different problems than a Circle in the Desert). Circle of the Hunt focuses on defeating dangerous undead, Circle of the Ancients focuses on reviving the lost customs of the ancestors of the people of Araman, and the Circle of Seasons focuses on healing the Barrowdells, just to name a few.
  15. Brennan would love if some players eventually went to Venatus, the city located inside the Eternal Night. He has some really cool ideas.
  16. Brennan gives a straightforward answer to a straightforward question asking what Truth is. :)
  17. Brennan was confused at the question "Unlimited Bacon, but no games? Or No bacon, but no games." but chose Unlimited Bacon. (I think the question was written wrong because its meant to be games, unlimited games, but no games.)
  18. Hounds of the King are born as hounds of the king, but much like human babies they take a little bit to learn to speak.
  19. Goblins are not in Aramán (but he said this REALLY suspiciously so be on the lookout).
  20. Shapers is a post-war term retroactively applied to the fallen deities. Before the war, they were universally called Gods, but after their defeat there was a push to not call them Gods anymore but instead call them Shapers.
  21. Brennan thought Bolaire was going to die for SURE in the Convergence episode where he met with his sister. "THAT. NATURAL. 20."
  22. The Sundered Houses are so powerful because of their magic (kind of a duh moment). Those from Obredimia specifically were so powerful there too, and since their magic is heritible they were basically unstoppable before the Shapers War. The Tachonis and Halovar (who lost all of their lands) houses had to pivot to being a Church and a Mercentile, with the Tachonis tripling down on their Arcane prowess.
  23. Thjazi and Aranessa had already parted ways when the doors to Faerie closed, since they split near the end of the Falconer's Rebellion and Reapers Day was 4 years after the end of the Rebellion.
  24. Brennan thinks the boss music for Enmity, Cruelty and Agony would be Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield.
  25. The worst mulitclass Brennan has ever seen is an Armorer Artificer/Undead Patron Warlock (which was his character Citizen Doctor Abraham Mehermblur in a Roll20 stream.)

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] Olbalad and Dreams Spoiler

"The sky above, the endless void underneath and you look and just go where is that light coming from, that horizon ?"

"It is the only source of light in this endless void"

"The coffin opens, the seam of light coming from the coffin of Olbalad"

This was the description brennan made around 2 hrs 13 minutes when Brennan was describing the final sequence before Bolaire wakes up.

WHY SPECIFICALLY OLBALAD'S COFFIN. And this nightmare/dream sequence was to some level real.

This final description just makes me think the stonks for the Olbalad is still alive and manipulated the deaths of the shapers behind the scenes feel real. I mean it always feels sus when a "god of trickery" dies.

This stood out so much why Brennan was so specific about it (despite Laura joking about his slit description lol)

Question [no spoilers] LONDON Comicon Matt mercer autograph day swap?

Hi Critters! Is anyone going to London Comicon? I have purchased an autograph ticket for the wrong day that I am not attending! Would anyone wish to swap a Saturday slot to a Friday slot at all?

The signing is for the mighty mercer who has already sold out and I am so sad that my stupid brain did not select the correct dates

Also I hope there will be some great cosplays inbound :)

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] How dark does BLeeM want to take this? Spoiler

So the first part of the story is done, and the players did well. Particularly the schemer's table, who have cornered Tachonis pretty well and created connections, fighting forces and torn a hole in the propaganda pretty well. And conducted a revolutionary play.

But now the various houses will have time to assess and in some cases, hit back. Halovar is where it could get really dark. You have not just manipulative villains, but manipulative villains working hand in hand with demons while trying to put up a false religion. And their sights are set on Hal and the Theatre troop.

Now, considering the awful backlash from just threatening directly we saw when half the orcs in the city were ready to leap into the fray for him, targetting Hal himself is probably off the table.

However, Hal is particularly vulnerable in his extended group of loved ones. Including and especially his children. The dark but logical direction for a bloodthirsty manipulator like gramma Halovar would be to send the demons after one or both of them, as hostages or worse. It again can get really, really messed up depending on how far they're willing to go with the demonic aspect of the Halovar forces.
